Reviews for Route 66 Hostel
Review 1:The place is rundown, and in need of repairs. The rooms and baths are very small. The pillow was like a tortilla. The staircase is treacherous. There's very little space for folks to congregate, and no communal TV. The staff wasn't very knowledgeable about the city, and there isn't much info provided about buses or sites of interest. Decided to leave early, but staff couldn't tell me if I would be reimbursed.
Review 2:The location is close to Amtrak, Greyhound and the local bus center but it's in a rundown neighborhood.
Review 3:Cleanliness was a major problem.
Review 4:As all hostels, I enjoyed having 24-hour access to the kitchen. The local laundry mat and grocery store within easy walking distance. This hostel also had free wifi.
Review 5:The parking can be a bit difficult. There is a small parking lot in the back but it seems to fill up quickly. Had to park on the other side of the street for one night.
Review 6:The staff was very friendly and happy to assist with questions.
Review 7:The beds' mattresses were pretty flimsy, but this is a minor complaint. I slept like a stone.
Review 8:I was very surprised by the generosity of the communal kitchen. The staff provide some communal food (eggs, cereal, pasta meals, pots, pans, milk, etc) for use by guests. It was really nice after a long camping trip to be able to make myself a home-cooked dinner and breakfast without worrying about going to the grocery and wasting food or spending on eating out. I was impressed by the staff and guests... it felt like a traveler's salon, a place to be together while on many separate journeys.
Review 9:Many! No after hours arrangement for check-in. No AC. Too hot inside even with the fan (onky 1 in the room). Bed is shaky. Unclean washroom with hidden light switch.
Review 10:Staff: very kind and helpful; location
Review 11:The receptionists are not very friendly when you ask questions. When asked about times of the bus in front of the hostel, one receptionist just responded: "You know you can google that" in a not so friendly way. Of course everybody can, assuming they have laptop or iphones or whatever. What if not. Just rude.
Review 12:The old european style ambience.
Review 13:Your employee Jules prepared a marvelous eggs/potatoes Sunday breakfast for us--very generously & t'was darn tasty too!! thank you Your Hostel was 1 of 3 total that I stayed at--as yours was most popular due to the Balloon Fest (no dorm bunks availb @ 10/11)--thus I remained in S/Fe. Sadly my bunk mate/on bottom sorned throughout the night--nothing to do with you! She woke me 3-4x's during 2 nights--thus I yelled to awake her, quieting her somewhat, temporarily. My ear plugs/ radio/ melotinin worked w/limits. Your staff is pleasant & professional, again thanks much!
Review 14:There were cockroaches everywhere and the place needed a general top to bottom scrub.
Review 15:Comfy beds, good atmosphere, coffee always available & friendly, helpful staff
Review 16:Rude staff, unclean and full of cockroaches, uncomfortable beds, awful wi-fi, just stay in a motel instead guys this place is by far the worst I've been to in the USA
Review 17:I liked the fact that I only stayed there two nights.
Review 18:I thought the bathroom was not very clean.
Review 19:I liked the common areas and the dorm room was clean. They had eggs in the refrigerator, peanut butter, tea and coffee available for guests.
Review 20:Beds are not very comfortable
Review 21:Excellent location. Great town. Friendly staff.
Review 22:Sharing space with strangers.
Review 23:Price and location. Breakfast was adaquite and bed was comfortable. Clean linens were provided.
Review 24:Terrible cleanliness There was infested with cockroaches in bathroom and dining room. And very hot and noisy fan was also terrible...
Review 25:cheap.
Review 26:Beds were a bit average though I've had worse.
Review 27:Great style and facilities. Awesome staff and seems to attract great fellow travellers.
Review 28:Very friendly and knowledgeable staff! And right in the middle of town-close to most everything. Met very exciting travelers from Europe.
Review 29:Always everything!
Review 30:Staff seem weird..only Gwen was helpful!
Review 31:Well located between Downtown (as in transport centre) and Old Town on Route 66. You can walk or carch a bus to see bits of ABQ.
Review 32:Bad mattresses; not sure $20 is a good value in dorm --crammed in asmall room with 5 strangers; some staff members unfriendly bordering onsurly; parking limited; must be somewhat extroverted to stay here;problem with reservation on arrival
Review 33:Location on Central good; staff member Tom nice; other guestsinteresting; clean; cereal and tea available; home-y; not sure therewere cheaper options in abq
Review 34:There was something going on with some of the guests and the managementand also the employees. There seemed to be a lot of problems and unrest. When I came in they did not explain breakfast and food only cleaning.Bathrooms had caulk on tub and shower bottoms and looked dirty. I was onthe downstairs floor upstairs seemed to be cleaner and in bettercondition. It was not being in Abq. I know this because I lived therefor 6 yrs previously.I Had recently stayed in 2 other hostels and thisdefinitely had the most problems weather it was staff or general overallcondition.
Review 35:I liked the locaion access to the bus was close, there was a coffee shopclose by and also old town and downtown. I really loved the front porch. One of the other guests showed me her room upstairs as we werediscussing the overall cleanliness and design and it looked great. Alsoan employee named Zee gave me some info on the coffe shop and otherlocal things the next morning after I arrived and was very pleasant andcurteous and helpful to everyone.
Review 36:they sadly had no AC and only for few days laundryfacilities (but 100m away is a fast and cheap laundryroom).
Review 37:the staff is excellent especially tom is very helpful. Eggs and cornflakes are for free and the porch is a good place to hang out
Review 38:Silly procedure of having you enter a secret code in the side door when you enter after hours. Why not just use keys?
Review 39:The price was right and the vibes were mellow.
Review 40:It is a great communal atmosphere, everyone is friendly and the place is homey. The spartan rooms provide the necessities without the luxury extras. This is a great value if you don't care about having a TV, hotel shampoo and things like that.
Review 41:It would be great if there were free wifi and also if there was something simple to eat to accompany the coffee in the morning.
Review 42:Annabel, the desk clerk, was extremely friendly and helped me print my boarding pass.
Review 43:uncomfortable matress
Review 44:relaxed helpful staff
Review 45:Nice facilities, staff, comfortable lodging
Review 46:Close at 22:30pm, not 24 hours
Review 47:Workers are friendly, great location, and definitely budget friendly
Review 48:not knowing how to unlock the back door after hours.
Review 49:the price, cleanliness, staff and patron friendliness, food, distance to city
Review 50:Can be very warm in rooms
Review 51:Staffs members were supportive and friendly!
Review 52:I felt a little uncomfortable.
Review 53:The price was excellent.
