Reviews for Summerfields Rose Retreat and Spa

Review 1:If in any doubt avoid hotels etc where payment is "final"!!! Some will forgive mistakes, others like this one, won't!

Review 2:We never made it as following a booking mistake (had not realized it was tented,a real health problem for us) Summerfields would not consider any form of compensation so they took full amount!

Review 3:The menu at the restaurant was limited. So was the breakfast menu. I felt it was overpriced for what was on offer.

Review 4:The quietness of the place. It was tranquil, peaceful and a gem in the middle of nowhere. Loved how roses were used all around the place.

Review 5:Over charged for night safari. Poor state of stone cottage. Plumbing and General up keep sorely needed for five star rating. Tents close to river seem better maintained.

Review 6:Spa and restaurants are excellent

Review 7:Staff were lovely from checkin to checkout. Helpful, smiling with nothing being a bother. Spa setting was idyllic down by the river and the little pool area and bar felt so peaceful and calm. We stayed in the Stonehouse which was full of character with outside bathroom and shaded terraces on 3 sides with a view over the farm and down the valley...Stunning. We had the pleasure of experiencing Dinner in the restaurant and breakfast by the river...both of which I would really recommend.

Review 8:The quietness of the place. The excellence that is evident throughout. The amazing chef who works miracles with the flavours of the food. The family who are exceptional!

Review 9:Would have liked more vegetarian options for dinner.

Review 10:the location was out-of-this-world. Felt like living in a forest. The food was very good, even for a vegetarian. The staff were very friendly, especially Sean who was a perfect host.

Review 11:The StoneHouse needs a little TLC is some areas, particularly some of the walls in the internal bathroom.

Review 12:The location, the StoneHouse, the staff and the food were excellent. Shaun the manager was helpful and efficient, the waiters James and Roderick were always on hand and excellent, Maria the room maid was efficient.

Review 13:Luxury accommodation that my family of six enjoyed thoroughly. Most amazing sites and scenes on the Rose farm and everything was of the highest quality, from the Stone House, too the veggie garden/s, the Luxury 5 star SPA facility, the Dining room / restuarant, Staff service and friendliness. We will be visitng yearly. Thank you to Ilze and Andre van Heerden and your amazing staff.

Review 14:We had a family weekend (5 adults and a 2 month old baby) and stayed in the stone house. We loved every minute of our stay. The lodge and spa area along the river is breath taking! Our only regret was that we were not able to stay longer.

Review 15:The staff was amazing, made us feel at ease the minute we arrived and like family when we left. Most amazing place to relax and unwind.

Review 16:Hmm- may be the place should have a small tv in the rooms

Review 17:The food, location-away from noisy cbd

Review 18:Dinner menu can become monotonous although food is Michelin star quality

Review 19:Absolute gorgeous location and setting

Review 20:Gastronomic brilliance

Review 21:Its one of a kind the set up of the place into the farm down to the Sabie river was owesome and I will visit and stay there again

Review 24:The beutiful farm/good staf & ...

Review 25:Enjoyed the tranquil setting, and the spa experience. Overall a nice weekend getaway.

Review 26:Bed a bit too hard. Wines were overpriced.

Review 27:Location, staff (Sean was very helpful), great food at the restaurant.

Review 28:everything was perfect

Review 29:everything esp food, location, treatments, accomodation

Review 30:Staff

Review 31:Need golfcart to carry luggage

Review 32:Space,Sabieriver, not overcrowded

Review 33:WE LOVED STAYING AS A FAMILY IN THE STONE HOUSE. THE MEALS WE ATE WERE SUPERB, AND OVERALL ATTENTION TO DETAIL WAS EXCELLENT.

Review 34:There appeared to be internal matters bubbling below the surface amongst the staff and as a result the guest experience we had left a lot to be desired as a Five-star lodge and spa. There was no ice in the bar on two separate days and the overpriced and pseudo french bistro was unimpressive.

Review 35:Location and ambiance was lovely

Review 36:be prepared for the cost, but its worth every penny!

Review 37:everything! amazing rooms, bathroom beautiful & spa treatments were incredible. Food in the restaurant was gorgeous, great wine & great service. every single element was considered & perfect. if i could go back tomorrow i would.

Review 38:Very friendly staff; fantastic gourmet Restaurant on premises; tiny tents with great barefoot luxury, very nicely decorated with many, many (!) roses. Located direcly on the Banks of Sabie River; Game regularily spotted. We did not use the spa facilities due to lack of time, but they looked very nice. In a nutshell: A dream!

Review 39:There was nothing NOT to like..1 or 2 very small maintenance issues can be improved on but that was all...

Review 40:Everything... service, location, layout, atmosphere and most of all the food... it was all exceptional. It was a real 5* treatment and highly recommended..

Review 41:No welcome and no one to show us around and acquaint us with everything on our arrival. Staff were pleasant but not well trained - didn't understand simple deviation to the menu. No low fat milk or skim milk ?? No soap in the rooms to wash with except liquid hand soap.

Review 42:Liked the decor and setting. The cleanliness was excellent.

Review 43:on my second night (26th dec 2013) i had hoped for a nice long nap, to wake up @ around 09:00, but instead the guy cutting grass just exactly opposite our tent, no 12 woke us up with a very loud continuous sound of that machine @ 07:05am. that was not nice, he continued untill about 09:00. that was the last thing i had expected, really.

Review 44:breakfast was excellent!!!! very friendly stuff..

Review 45:no possibility to use the spa.

Review 46:very nice place to stay, and to relax. good distance to other tents/rooms and no litle children. good breakfast, and nice restaurant.

Review 47:the setting of the River Lodge down at the Sabie River is fantastic, the decoration, the garden and plantation are very charming, We had an excellent dinner

Review 48:Only complaint is the spa bookings! We were residents at summerfields and paid to stay there and couldnt get spa bookings because of outside people. Rather ask occupants weather they would like spa treatment when making the booking! We were pushed in a 45min treatment 8h the morning and couldnt get any other treatments because of that while we were paying to stay at Summerfields, which was quite a disappointment for us!

Review 49:We liked everything there, was just amazing!

Review 50:The coffee needs to be upgraded to at least a nespresso mashine. Or at least good quality coffee and a plunger.

Review 51:The facilities are fantastic, the food was great, the staff very professional,

Review 52:The Tent-Room and wonderful private service

Review 53:Most beautiful outdoor bathroom. Relax in the bath as you watch the river and see butterflies flying by.

Review 54:Everything is just great. The food is amazing and the staff is very nice. It's lovely to sleep with the sound of the river just outside.

Review 55:The accommodation The stonehuose needs an upgrade. Not sure how the hotel claims to be 5 star with this very average room.

Review 56:The Spa

Review 57:The food was absolutely exquisite and the chef took great care of ourfussy food requirements.

Review 58:The lodge is beautiful and luxurious, the staff very friendly and professional and the organic deli is a delight. The location is breathtaking.

Review 59:everything!!!
