Reviews for Fredericksburg Hill Country Hotel

Review 1:Walls are thin you could hear our neighbors watching TV

Review 2:Everything during our stay was wonderful! Staff was nice and clean, facilities were excellent and clean, breakfast was good and fresh with many options and proper food handling was used no bare hands on food being served , the location was excellent too! It is just down the street from downtown.

Review 3:The $100 pet fee made it where it was not a great value. The bed was not super comfortable either.

Review 4:Nice room. Good hot breakfast. Most staff were extremely friendly.

Review 5:Room was right next to highway, kind of noisy. Curtains did not close to block car lights on highway.

Review 6:Very clean and staff very helpful. Breakfast area very well maintained, good selections.

Review 7:Walls were thin. Could hear the people next door even though they were talking in normal voices. A dog that got left in the room barked for hours.

Review 8:Breakfast was nice. Very reasonable rates.

Review 9:Carpet was torn. No trash can in room at all. Had to use two different remotes to operate tv. Bathroom was sketchy. No guide to tv channels. Phones did not work. Could not enter bsck door as card reader did not work. Lousy breakfast, I skipped it and went to a restaurant

Review 10:Good location except for some raid noise

Review 11:No refrigerator. Side entrance door key card reader didn't work; door had to be opened from the inside and propped open to use. Eggs or egg substitutes at breakfast not good.

Review 12:The staff were friendly and helpful. Waffle maker (Texas shape, of course) worked well and the batter made delicious waffles.

Review 13:The location was at the end of town. I wish we had stayed closer to the main drag but the price for those hotels is almost triple this hotel!

Review 14:The price was great compared to other hotels in the area.

Review 15:I only wish the hotel was a little cheaper. We got a great deal on it by booking a room last minute and using Booking.com, but usually it costs $120 or so for a room.

Review 16:I loved how friendly the staff was and how CLEAN the room was. Soap, towels, good TV reception.

Review 17:Very dated, lacked standard amminities. No microwave or mini fridge in the room, the water in the shower took nearly 10 minutes to warm up to acceptable levels, then after a few minutes of showering took on a "dirty" yellow tint. Stopped offering breakfast at 10am which was a huge disappointment as my wife and myself are late night people so we don't wake up until 10 or 11am at the earliest.

Review 18:I loved the 12pm check out and how easy it was to get a late check out of 1pm. Quiet hotel. Not far from the "action" of Fredericksburg.

Review 19:When checked in the clerk was rude not to mention no TV , no ice machine ,phone didn't work (Dead)when asked for an adjustment on my bill , was told they could not because I had made my reservation on line. To be fair before we left the next day we did have working tv.

Review 20:i'am sorry , I can't find any thing other than it was a bed to sleep in.

Review 21:no small refrigerator in room; stayed in room on side of highway, which is noisy with the traffic

Review 22:beds are comfortable; room clean two adults (sisters)

Review 23:There was a barking dog that woke us up early in the morning but nothing else...

Review 24:Sandy at the front desk was awesome and so friendly. Very kid friendly place and breakfast was decent. Rooms were spacious and the beds were comfortable.

Review 25:The first night we had to be moved because the air conditioner made so much noise, sleep was impossible. The new room's toilet wasn't clean, black spots on wall, dead cricket and bathtub needed a good scrubbing. Told staff, dead cricket removed, but toilet and tub looked the same.

Review 26:The bed felt old and not very comfortable. There was peeling wallpaper and caulking was badly cracked. The staff seemed almost non-existent though they were nice and accommodating when they were available.

Review 27:Good location and a good price.

Review 28:Considering all the pluses ...a slightly better breakfast and access to a washing machine. Someone could come by every morning and spend half an hour at the pool....

Review 29:This is the perfect stay in the Hill Country and Fredericksburg area to follow up what's going on at the great country music venues of Luckenbach and Gruene Dance Hall, and the many other local Honky Tonks and Punk Rock bars such as Hondo's and Silver Creek. The close reach of good restaurants, take always and super markets is another plus! The first reason to stay there would always be that the rooms are clean and spacious and that the staff is outgoing and pleasant. Host Victoria is a gem and takes well care of you! Prices are reasonable and overcoming! We are often on the road for a long time and The Fredericksburg Hill Country Hotel is our natural home when visiting this area! Austin and other major cities are well within reach...

Review 30:Small very old commode

Review 31:The greeting we received was awesome! On the way there we were notified that a family member had passed. We were sad and tired from a long drive and knowing we had to go back as soon as possible. Your staff was so helpful Thank you so much!

Review 32:Pet owners beware!! There is a $50 charge per pet, per night. If we hadknown that little detail, we would not have booked a room. When the scamartist owner figured in the pet fee, our room rate was extrememlyhigh. We could not cancel at check-in, so we were trapped. The hotel wasformerly a Howard Johnson's--the quality was only adequate, thebreakfast was mediocre at best. Hotel amenities said "petswelcome". Yeah, I'll bet. You make an exorbitant amount ofmoney off them. If you didn't want pets--just say so.

Review 33:The room rate was great(or so we thought, unitl check in). We didn'texpect much for the price. All the reviews we read said the place was agood value HOWEVER....(read the rest of my reveiw)

Review 34:I was disappointed in the attitude of the older lady at the front desk. She was not friendly at all and didn't receive us in a friendly manner. There were never anybody at the front desk, you needed to ring a bell for service. One evening we did not receive sny small hand towels and when I went to the desk to ask for some I was told by this same lady that she does not have any. I told her as I am a guest at this hotel I specifically told her to get me 2 towels and I would expect them to be put in my room when I come back from dinner. I RECEIVED 2 TOWELS BUT THEY WERE ON THE FLOOR OUTSIDE MY ROOM. We also had a problem when signing in. I had requested a bottom floor and she said they had no available rooms . I also explained that I requested them a month ago, She was very nasty but we got on the bottom floor I would not stay there another time. All the other staff we spoke to were very nice and corgial. Wayne and Joan Akeley Rm 116

Review 35:For the amount of money ($150.+) the accommodations where were less than we would have expected. The air conditioner lacked the cover and was wide open and made a huge noise. There was no fridge in the room. We were told at the desk that we had to request a room with a fridge if we wanted one. Really? For over $150. a night room? In this price range you still are not to expect a fridge but have to ask for one? Also we were hit with a $50. pet fee for 1 night! Again...really! $50.00? Which we did not know but were supposed to already know about it somehow mysteriously.

Review 36:I enjoyed the breakfast and how you could sit outside in the covered balcony area in a rocking chair and just enjoy the time.

Review 37:air condition unit was very loud and we couldn't sleep. we did complain but the mgr said they couldn't do anything for us because we had booked on line. it was pretty bad. also telep not working.

Review 38:the bed was not comfortable. Our toilet stopped up, it was too hot in the room and our shower did not have hot water the first night we were there.

Review 39:We liked how close it was to Main Street.

Review 40:Overall an excellent experience except for difficulty contacting hotel by phone to notify of late arrival. Incoming calls were forwarded to a full mailbox with no positivity of leaving a message. Still, this was not really a problem since the staff was still expecting our arrival and aware of the phone situation.

Review 41:Attractive, very clean, well supplied, comfortable room; convenient location and reasonable price. A former Howard Johnson's upgraded to better-than-Howard-Johnson's standards.

Review 42:No phone in room, TV was marginal, 1st morning, coffee cold, hot bfast almost gone, asked about it and got a shrug. Pool was cloudy. Everything done on a shoestring budget. Glad the bed was clean, but will not stay again.

Review 43:Bed was clean, room, bath clean

Review 44:Waited a total of 2 mins before lady at front desk looked up andacknowledged me. Never said hello just "do you have areservation". Also she allowed someone upstairs to have a stovecooker in their room and they set off the fire alarm waking up everyonein the hotel at 2am. We were very displeased.

Review 45:The staff are friendly & helpful. The large room was very clean & comfortable. We've stayed here twice and will definitely stay again. The location is quiet & relaxing since it is at the end of Main Street with all the traffic. Easy access to shopping & restaurants via the back streets so you miss all the traffic and parking issues.

Review 46:The location is a bit of a long walk into the center of town - certianly walkable, but not great in the Texas heat. Also, if you want to sit outside in the evening bring bug spray.

Review 47:The porch and rocking chairs.

Review 48:I arrived on Friday afternoon, that night I noticed that the bathroom were not really clean so I decided to wait until the next day to see if they would clean it right. I made a complain to front desk on Sunday and by the time I checked out on Tuesday the floors were still not clean.

Review 49:The pool didn't have steps that I would need to get out . The ladder doesn't help me so I wasn't able to enjoy the pool :(

Review 50:I felt right at home. Staff was friendly, courteous, professional. Bed was awesome and breakfast yummy. I would definitely go back.

Review 51:Everything was wonderful. We were pleased with everything. the only suggestion I have is that they place a small refrigerator in the handicapp room.

Review 52:Wish the pool would've been bigger.

Review 53:Couldn't have been a better stay!!! Loved that it's not located in the busy part of town. Nice & quite. Super easy to get to. Staff was Great!!!

Review 54:The "hot breakfast" was disappointing (no protein) and the pool was small and not very inviting. The wallpaper in the bathroom was coming off the walls.

Review 55:The quiet rooms and rockers on the front porch were very relaxing.

Review 56:Pool needed to be cleaned. Did not like crickets in the room. No phone service to front desk.

Review 57:Staff was friendly and helpful especially your manager on duty in the morning. The location was close to everything.

Review 58:Did not have a refrigerator or microwave in the room. Had no place to keep our extra food from restaurant to eat later or a way to heat it up. Would have been nice to be able to buy milk for the grand-daughter and juice for me, but no way to keep it cold.

Review 59:The location was wonderful. The Bavarian Restaurant was across the street. The breakfast was great, hot, good selection and nice view of the hill country. I could not believe how quiet it was. Usually at hotels I am woke up early with people in the hallways and doors slamming. There was none of this and I was able to sleep until 9 a.m., which is very rare. Loved the location on the edge of town, away from the bustle and hustle of the main street tourists. The pool was very nice for my grand-daughter to play in. We where the only ones at the pool - relaxing and peaceful. Would certainly stay here again and refer to any firends and relatives to stay. Thank you for an awesome get away.

Review 60:Our last visit was very pleasant. The room in our recent visit was in need of repairs. In addition, the hot breakfast advertised was not great. No eggs during the week and coffee cold.

Review 61:The rate is very good and location is great.

Review 62:night check in personnel need to be a bit more welcoming, we had to interput her conversation with a friend to get checked in and then we felt we were intruding on her time asking questions about the facility and locality

Review 63:great location, parking, comfy bed

Review 64:Building wasn't maintained very well, not enough seating in pool area, bed pillows very uncomfortable, and our door keys stopped working automatically way before checkout time.

Review 65:Quiet location, nice breakfast area.

Review 66:My only complaint is there was not a good selection for breakfast. I was expecting pastries, and the hot breakfast was cold but the waffles were good.

Review 67:our stay was wonderful from the moment we walked in the door. The desk clerk for extremely nice and helpful. Our room was a suite and we were pleasantly surprised how nice it was. The pictures we saw on line were the exact room we had so no surprises. It even had a walk in closet. Extremely pleased!!!

Review 68:The landscaping needed some attention. Not what fredericksburg represents.

Review 69:The rooms were clean. The staff were very helpful.Great showers, water hot and lots of pressure.

Review 70:bugs in bathroom, changed rooms but 2nd room did not have frige or microwave, pool was dirty and was just a lap pool dog next door wined all day

Review 71:location

Review 72:The older check in lady took a while to get there from the back. then No smile said. What do you wAnt? We were early stated room not ready. We arrived at 4:00 rooms very hot and strong smell of cleaning pine sol. Had to sit on porch until room cool no way rooms slept in night. Before

Review 73:Indoor opening to rooms. Evening staff. Porch with rocking chairs

Review 74:The bath towels are pretty small, but other than that everything was great. I'm sure some people might complain about the outdated television, but I don't watch TV so did not bother me at all.

Review 75:The staff was friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Victoria was very professional and friendly! Great location and the room was clean!

Review 76:Breakfast disappointing. Expected some local well known pastries, especially since more expensive than other similar hotels in other towns.

Review 77:Liked the location. Near the end of busy street. Very peaceful. Liked sitting on patio in rocking chairs and drinking my coffee.

Review 78:The fan in the bathroom stayed continually while the light was on, which was noisy. There was not TV channel information, so it was frustrating to look for favorite TV shows.

Review 79:Free breakfast and good comfortable bed

Review 80:They charged way too much for pet fee 50.00 per pet is way out of line. This was not displayed when i made reservation. This was more than the room cost

Review 81:they did adjust pet fee because we were not told upfront

Review 82:I went with a friend, we are both 75 plus years in age. We went to attend a wedding. The Hotel was in a great location, the service friendly and the room was clean. The breakfast was and added bonus and the price was cheaper then a lot of places.

Review 83:The bed pillows were small and lumpy and the light/fan in the bathroom was screeching when turned on. Neither issue was reported, because we did not feel it was bad enough to complain.

Review 84:We had no problems with noise from other guests. As mature travelers that is always a plus. Breakfast was good and on time. We had 5-7 at breakfast two mornings and had no problems running out of food.

Review 85:I found a half eaten pretzel rod by the chair and my daughter found a cookie in the corner. At bedtime the fitted sheet was inside out. My daughter was afraid the sheets weren't changed, just turned inside out.

Review 86:The staff was friendly.

Review 87:At the end of the first day, i laid across the bed while my husband watched TV. Then I looked and a mouse crawled up the power cord plugged into the wall and hopped onto the chair at the table. I have traveled alot and can say I have never before had this happen.

Review 88:The property manager was a delight, Victoria. She was eager tp please and very personable. Property was nicely decorated in lobby area and breakfast was ok.

Review 89:Website says rooms come with a fridge and microwave but one of our two rooms did not have those. This would have been a problem if we had not booked 2 rooms but worked out okay for us - not a big deal.

Review 90:We liked the staff being so approachable, helpful, and friendly - very "down home, country feel". Even though the building is old, it is was well-maintained and clean. Being just outside of the downtown area, the views were pretty and it was quieter.

Review 91:Breakfast was not available when we arrived to eat. The young lady was at the desk talking with clerk. When ask if we were going to have coffee, eggs, toast etc she said yes. It took her a while to prepare for the other guests along with us. The hotel tv was a joke. you could not even see the screen due to the dark images. The shower had hair in it. I went to store and bought cleaners for the room.

Review 92:Pets cost $50 each. We have 3 small dogs. It would have been an extra $150 for our stay to take our dogs. Also the free breakfast is a joke also. The eggs are fake and discusting and the sausage is weird, not gross but weird. If you don't have pets and don't eat the breakfast then it's not a bad place if you don't get the rude lady at the front desk. The location is just down the road from the strip and is also quiet. That is a plus for us.

Review 93:The hotel was a little comfortable but could be better for the price. Pets are allowed up to 25lbs but cost $50 each.

Review 94:Night front desk lady needs personality. Would not consider a late check out. We had 2 rooms - full size beds. Also no hot water. we had to call front desk and they had to turn on hot water. A little high price for the room.

Review 95:the morning staff was excellent and very friendly. This is an old motel and needs updating. Morning staff very cordial and agreed to a late check out since we were there for a funeral; we did not need the late check out after all. Very nice breakfast. Location - end of main street past post office.

Review 96:The bed was a little too soft for my liking, and the ice maker was not operating and the drink machine made a terrible racket.

Review 97:The staff was excellent, the facilities clean and pleasant, and the breakfast was quite good.

Review 98:They had no cream for the coffee both mornings, just the powdered stuff. Seems all they would have to do is run to the store and pick some up. It makes a difference!

Review 99:The staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 100:The facility was not maintained well. Ice machine didn't work. Mirror frame in bathroom rotting, carpet not cleaned, wallpaper in bathroom peeling.

Review 101:Staff was friendly and the cleaning staff tried hard to make the rooms look nice.

Review 102:Was there three full days (two during the week) and the ice machine was broken the entire time. While it was fall, the pool was a different kind of nasty. Should be drained or covered and the area should definitely be closed. The back deck, while a nice setting, is in disrepair. Warped boards are raised in several places and pose hazards.

Review 103:The price is hard to beat. Room was fairly spacious. While the hotel isn't central to downtown, it was still walking distance for us.

Review 104:This hotel is old and our room showed it's age. There wasn't a shower curtain in the shower when we checked in but staff quickly took care of the issue.

Review 105:The location was perfect. Very near downtown and close to restaurants.

Review 106:Room phone did not work, ice machine inoperable for the 4 days, dirty carpet in room, pool condition was hideous, and facility needed renovation ( wall paper peeling, aging /wearing furniture (veneer peeling off).

Review 107:Friendly, helpful, apologetic staff and price was fair.

Review 108:Could be cleaner. The room was clean but the hallways and stairwells needed some attention. The pool was filthy.

Review 109:The staff at the desk were very friendly and helpful. The accommodations were good and the free breakfast was great!

Review 110:The room needed a some maintenance. The paint was peeling from the ceiling over the tub and the wall paper was coming off at the edges in several places.

Review 111:Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The location was close to town but had the feeling of being in the country. There were goats grazing across the road - very picturesque.

Review 112:If we had known it was at the edge of town we would have tried to get in walking distance of main st.

Review 113:They had a free breakfast. The breakfast was really good several choices. Staff was friendly. On the edge of town so it was just a short drive to the shops.

Review 114:Carpet very nasty, coffee maker didn't work, price for one night $190 too high for a room that needs a lot of up dating.

Review 115:Bead sheets very clean, restroom clean, quiet, good parking, fair breakfast.

Review 116:The location was too far from all the shops. The "hot" breakfast was a sausage patty, biscuits and something that resembled a flattened hard-boiled egg on the weekend. The swimming pool was small and dirty.

Review 117:The hotel was fairly clean and the help was friendly.

Review 118:The bed in the room is to low. We needed higher bed. Other than that everything else in the room is good.

Review 119:The Hotel is real clean and the staff real friendly. The staff check us in real quick and had no problems.

Review 120:The place is dismal. The back deck is rotted and infested with some kind of roaches or beetles that were also seen inside. The pool was dirty. The ice machine was broken. The halls and room were dusty and dirty looking. Absolutely no landscaping or anything remotely pleasing to look at. In addition, the charge for my two small dogs was $50. each which brought our room fee to $249. for the night. The lady that checked us in was not friendly...almost rude in fact.

Review 121:This property has been partially rennovated . The first floor was clean and cool. The second did not have air conditioning for the hallway and the room took some time to cool. The pool was dirty/ full of bugs the 3 days we were there. The ice maker was out of order and appeared to have been that way for a while as the front desk had small bags of ice to give out. When we asked about it we were told the manager lives in San Antonio Do not think we will stay there again

Review 122:The pool needed to be cleaned daily. It had some debris in it both days I swam there.

Review 123:I liked the free hot breakfast and the coffee was very good. They gave us a room on the second floor near the elevator. The room was very spacious and the bathroom was kept clean.

Review 124:1. The place looked a bit dingy 2. 2 parts of the outside fence were knocked down, showing the funeral home parking lot behind it. 3. The wifi semi worked, eventually it had a stable connection. 4. Not sure how much the carpets get cleaned, it had a damp feeling on the ground, was dirty. The ironing board was dirty as well. 5. 21" CRT TV - this could use an upgrade 6. Didn't make the effort to get breakfast, but took a look at the breakfast area one evening. Hot breakfast means waffles, or maybe pastry. 7. The walls are thin, we could hear kids running through the halls, people in other rooms knocking on walls. 8. The room took a while to cool with the AC turned high. 9. Minimal available wall plugs. 10. Not worth the price

Review 125:The location, although not as close to the strip as other hotels. Standard stuff a hotel should have was there, check in/check out was easy. Available fridge and microwave

Review 126:there were children running in the halls in early evening, but nothing too bothersome.

Review 127:The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was good.

Review 128:Who gave this place a 7.7 Were to start service was not par, Room carpet was dirty, bathrooms dirty, paint falling off ceiling, Beds are the worst (uncomfortable). Someone needs to show maids how to clean. Towels were below par buy some new ones. This hotel was a Howard Johnson Looks to be sold out needs major RENOVATION

Review 129:This hotel was very nice, very clean, and great value for the money. It was very close to all the shops and restaurants. Staff was very friendly and we loved the free breakfast in the morning! I would recommend this hotel! :)

Review 130:Very expensive for a below average hotel, in terms of appearance, ambience, comfort, service, cleanliness. Free breakfast was terrible.

Review 131:Location - at the edge of city center; hence, away from the crowd, traffic. Thin walls, so one could hear TV or conversations from next room; luckily, everyone got quiet after 10 PM.

Review 132:The pillows, needed more or bigger pillows. Never enough coffee and cream in the room, although there was coffee and milk at the breakfast.

Review 133:The ease of booking and checking in. The friendly staff. The room was clean and had a refrigerator and microwave. Basically for the money, it was a very good choice.

Review 134:Clean, comfortable good size room. Fridge, microwave and a lift (elevator), helpful reception, plenty of parking, short drive to Fredericksburg's lovely town centre, highly recommended.

Review 135:pics online were very deceiving, the fire alarm was dangling off the wall. no light on it commode handle was not working properly, had to push it in before flushing and hold it rail on bed was sticking out, I hit my leg on it, could of been very dangerous pool was disgusting very dirty cobb webs hanging off ceiling odor in room
