Reviews for Rissington Inn

Review 1:No tv in the rooms. The owner thinks tv's a ghastly things and could not be bothered to listen to guests who want at least the option to watch tv (what should one do on rainy days??). We were put in a dark, dingy room with very little natural light, no ceiling lights, clogged shower drain and a smelly toilet that didn't flush properly. The caucasian gentlemen at reception insisted he could not move us as the place was fully booked. Next day, an African lady at reception moved us to a better room (turns out the place wasn't fully booked after all). Be prepared for a bumpy ride on a dirt road to the inn. No porter on arrival. The staff member walked up to our car to show us where reception was, but didn't offer to help carry our luggage. No back-up power during outages / loadshedding. Very poor wi-fi connectivity.

Review 2:Close to Kruger Park. Late breakfast. Daily weather forecast. Restaurant food was good.

Review 3:The 1 km track to the property was a little rough, But iT maant the hotel was in fabulous settings and very peaceful.

Review 4:IT was a quiet, beautifully presented hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would recommend to anyone.

Review 5:We felt right at home as we drove up to the main building and Shirley was there to meet us as we got out of the car. This made Rissington's motto "Open Doors" resonate with us. Everything was immaculate and Chris and all the staff made us feel like we were the most important people there (as they did for all guests). The food was out of this world and very affordable. We cannot wait to go back for another visit.

Review 6:Small pool - no more than 2-3 adults could use at a time but still pleasant poolside seating and all v clean.

Review 7:Felt like being a very welcome house guest. We're not ones for big multi-national chains and Rissington was perfect - lovely to just sit on our terrace with a glass of sherry and watch .. nothing but the view! Bliss!

Review 8:electricity issue, we understood that it was beyond their control,

Review 9:the friendly and patient staff, willing to accommodate and wait for us to arrive as we had gotten lost along the way. The staff and owner were on hand every time we had a question or an insane request.

Review 10:That we only had one night

Review 11:What a gem of a place! On arrival we were upgraded, staff are very helpful and friendly, dinner was superb with a superb and well priced wine list. Just a pity we were there for only 1 night. Will definitely be back!

Review 12:This place is soooo relaxing and has a wonderful energy. if I had known I would have camped down for a week or more. Gorgeous rooms... I tried out 3, so know...Helpful and happy staff which is important. Idyllic setting to truly unwind. Linen awesome, outdoor showers divine and the best breakfast I've had ever.. I shall highly recommend. Thanks Rissington crew. Cx

Review 13:The only thing we didn't like was not being able to stay a second night, but that wasn't the lodge's fault (we'd booked literally at the last minute, and the only reason they had a room for one night was a cancellation).

Review 14:The location itself is beautiful, the room very well appointed and comfortable, the food excellent and the service above and beyond. The man we spoke to even gathered a list of nearby alternative lodgings for us, since they were booked solid for the second night! And the guard let us into an upgraded room when we arrived at 1:30 AM.

Review 15:Internet is usable around the main lodge, but sometimes real slow which is standard in de region. Internet around the suites is slower or unusable. But who cares when you're on vacation :-).

Review 16:Great location, nearby Kruger and Hazyview. Amazing view and ambiance, very good service, very good food and good value as well.

Review 17:Good place to stay in Hazyview. The staff was friendly. Peaceful location and a safe place. Just a cuple of minutes to get to kruger park. Good breakfast.

Review 18:We were a party of four with two rooms booked, on arrival we were informed we had been up-graded to a two bedroom suite - each! These rooms shared a small pool, which unfortunately due torrential rain we didn't get to try, but it looked lovely. The actually rooms were very spacious, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large lounge, and private terrace. They were immaculately clean. I should mention that some furnishings were a little dated, but they were comfortable and added to the quaint 'out of Africa' ambience. Although we arrived at 2pm they serve food all day, so we had a very good light lunch, and in the evening a very nice dinner. A table is automatically reserved. There were so many nice little touches, that we really felt welcomed and looked after. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We're planning to visit SA in two years, and Rissington is definitely on the agenda, but we'll stay for two to three days. It's a great base to do the Panoramic Route. If it was twice the price, it would still be great value for money.

Review 19:Nothing I didn't like.

Review 20:One of the nicer places we stayed on our trip. We got an upgrade to the suite as our room was given away to someone else by mistake, which was fantastic! I enjoyed the outdoor shower and the lovely view. The Inn has its own restaurant and the food is superb!!

Review 21:Absolutely nothing

Review 22:We had 2 superior rooms for single use. Very nice verandah with view and comfy chairs . Excellent room with crispy sheets and soft mattress. Lovely tub in room and separate shower. Great attention for details. And perfect location and great service. We felt very welcome and do have diner here. Excellent with wines. Breakfast is also great with lots of homemade food. Certainly a place to return too.

Review 23:Lack of water for the gardens and grounds but they can't be responsible for the weather pattern!

Review 24:Nice big room, attention to detail. Takeaway breakfast when wanted to leave early for Kruger.

Review 25:The road is not good... Only bad point !

Review 26:Dinner and breakfast very good. Everything is fresh. The scones are delicious !! Very helpful staff. Your bed waits for you ! And you can see the stars.

Review 27:- Staff extremely friendly. You will feel home! - Very customer oriented, with some nice details (car washed in the morning, small note about the next day weather, ...) - Magnificent views. - Spectacular breakfast.

Review 28:They upgraded us to the Garden Suite. With stunning views of the valley and the sunset. The focus is on Relaxing...No T/V ..which was welcome. Plenty of books to read in the room. A place to unwind. If you want TV or Wi Fi you have t go to the Main House. The place has a restaurant which serves top class diner a la carte and English and Continental Breakfast. Will recommend this to everyone.

Review 29:Locking the door door in the Ebony cottage was rather pointless, since one could easily open it anyway. The access road could do with some improvement; if instead it gets worse a 4wd wiill soon be needed for access. As it consists mainly of sand one would think maintenance would be both easy and affordable.

Review 30:Highly recommended! Strategically located, a few tens of km from both Kruger and Graskop / Panorama Route. We give it the highest mark in all categories, and if there had been a category for "humor in information material" it would have received a high mark there as well.

Review 31:From the moment we arrived we were treated very well by very friendly and courteous staff. It has a lived- in comfortable feeling and it is away from the bright lights and is quiet and really peaceful.

Review 32:By far the excellent attitude of all staff, always willing to help. Clean rooms, beautiful sunsets, and wonderful breakfast offering. Being able to have lung and dinner on site was also a plus.

Review 33:We were put in a dreadfully cramped room with a most uncomfortable bed for the first night - and contemplated leaving the next day without staying the full two nights. Your pictures advertising the rooms were not a true reflection of these economy class rooms.

Review 34:The staff was friendly, and there were many lovely little touches, like turned down beds, wonderful sheets, fresh flowers in the rooms etc. The proprietor, without prompting, moved us to a really spacious and well laid out room for the second night

Review 35:Just stayed 1 night in passing through Hazyview to get to a game lodge. Rissington Inn was Lovely! Staff friendly and helpful, good food and comfortable rooms and beautiful setting and surroundings, just what we needed for our stay!

Review 36:We were greeted by a young man who introduced himself and asked us for our names, only to inform us that he can't pronounce them. Now my name is very simply, so he didn't want to pronounce my name. Also, I informed them that I had had a bad experience with a German shepherd and requested that they put the dog away - only to find the dog in the pub area after dinner.

Review 37:When I left a hotel where staff didn't listen!

Review 38:Kruger park very accessible and also nearby local shops. WiFi signal didn't extend to rooms but isn't a big deal. Friendly front of house staff.

Review 39:Standard room quite small and not advisable in the hot season !

Review 40:Very good base for visits to Kruger National park, friendly staff who gave us an upgrade with no hassles

Review 41:leaving

Review 42:We stayed in a beautiful garden room with two double beds. Attentive and helpful staff coupled with good food and a tranquil sub-tropical garden setting makes this an ideal place to explore the beauty of Mpumalanga. Only 25 minutes from the Kruger Park.

Review 43:It would have been nice to be able to have gluten-free bread

Review 44:Friendliness of staff Excellent good, particularly crocodile curry Peaceful environment Lots of birdlife Easy access to Kruger Park

Review 45:Internet was only assessable in the main building.

Review 46:Location, staff, food and comfort makes this place the perfect spot for travelers heading to Kruger National Park.

Review 47:Everything is thought through to ensure the guest has every wish fulfilled - so we loved everything - there is nothing to dislike about The Rissington Inn!

Review 48:A long, gravel drive off the main road brings you to an oasis! This beautiful colonial collection of original buildings and Garden Suites along with the kew-garden like grounds full of colourful flowers, plants and a variety of trees - plus a wonderful hillside view - make this venue a must!

Review 49:The staff were very friendly and attentive, as was the host Chris. The food was excellent. A little gem of peace and quiet, only 1km down a dirt track from the town.

Review 50:Road towards the lodge is bit bumpy, but doable with a normal car.

Review 51:Most charming place. With very nice food, friendly staff and large rooms/houses with outside shower. Definitely stay there again if closeby.

Review 52:Nothing to complain about. A very typical South African Bed andBreakfast in the countryside.

Review 53:The garden is very beautiful, the building charming. Well signposted, some 2 km from the town center. Standard south african breakfast.Welcming hosts.

Review 54:Plumbing problem which was eventually sorted out but we had to change rooms twice!!!!! But the staff did the best they could under the circumstances.

Review 55:Very friendly, helpful staff and food was good.

Review 56:It was very cold in the room where we slept.

Review 57:Great service from the staff, the peacefulness of the place and its surroundings and enjoyed the country feel.

Review 80:A fantastic place with beautiful views and a nice food. The rooms are large with a beautiful veranda.

Review 81:Clean, green, very friendly staff, Christmas dinner was very tasty and had a very friendly price. We can definitely recommend the place.

Review 82:Nice quite place!. Very close frome the Numbi gate. (National Kruger Park)

Review 83:Couple of mistakes with our account when checking out, but eventually it was all sorted out.

Review 84:Perfect setting. Rooms are very spacious. Dinner was excellent, and so too the breakfast. Staff are very friendly and competent. Kanan has got a lovely personality and his service was great too. Will definitely again stay there.

Review 85:nothing really to mention - If i have to i'd say the breakfast side spreads could get fresher ;)

Review 86:Amazing feel to the place as we were served by very warm staff. If you are looking for a cosy home stay feel this is the place to go. Food was awesome! Breakfast was made with tender love and care. beautiful decor with great views.

Review 87:Nothing to dislike.

Review 88:A colonial style countryside peaceful property. Also very neat & clean. Reasonably priced good variety of food. Good selection of breakfast items and freshly cooked breakfast items as well with Plenty of condiments. I very much enjoyed the open sky bath shower in the side courtyard of my free upgraded cottage. Bar is very lively and not expansive. Special thanks to Ellie & Kevin for all help and care.

Review 89:- The barking dogs in the early morning

Review 90:- The staff friendliness - Location - WiFi that it's free of charge. Limited to the pool area for great connection. - The large clean rooms. - Breakfast wide selection of fresh fruits

Review 91:Everything was good my mum enjoy the friendliness of ur staff Nikiwe,Kanan,Hlengiwe and the kitchen staff keep up the good work and I hope we are coming August

Review 92:The dustroad to the hotel, but most hotels have roads like this. And we definitively did not like leaving the hotel and having to say goodbeye to the staff, wonderful food, the (monkeys in the) garden etc. etc.

Review 93:The staff and the food are excellent! Beautiful garden, absolute value for money. Close to the Kurgerpark, Panorama route and the center of Hazeyview. Small with a lot of personal attention and care for the guests. A little Paradise.

Review 94:The bumpy sand road to the hotel, but 99% of the hotels in this region have similar roads

Review 95:A little Paradise with the friendliest people you can imagine. A wonderful garden and gourmet food. Near the Kruger parc and Panarama route. Monkeys in the garden, 150 different birds and a great, helpful, warm staff

Review 96:+ Large cracks under the doors, we had some beetles and flying insects in the room

Review 97:+ Great service + Complementary car wash :-) + Beautiful grounds, many rooms have great views + Close to the Kruger + The new year's eve party was a blast

Review 98:If there is anything which is not 100 % perfect, it can just be the way between the mainstreet and the hotel. the entrance is offroad with a couple of pottholes. But nothing in comparison to the pottholes in south african normal streets :)

Review 99:totally awesome. You won't miss anything at Rissington Inn. It was the best hotel i had been to in ZA. Hazyview is not the best place to stay, but i will always come back to this hotel.

Review 100:As committed TV addicts we missed this facility but as we were both not well I think it was for the best!!

Review 101:The helpful staff and the peace and serenity of the countryside.

Review 102:The lodge's information booklet inside the room had quite some useful information, but it also contained some male chauvinistic remarks. Whoever wrote it (I'm assuming this was written by the lodge's proprietor) tried to be funny, but it wasn't.

Review 103:Really enjoyed our stay. The place feels very relaxing. Loved the hammock and the spacious room. There were lots of little surprises here and there which was really nice! The outdoor shower, the biscuits in the room, the magazines and the books inside the room, all these were the little nice touch that I really like! Oh, and our car was even washed by some staff, we are not sure who, but it was a really pleasant surprise!

Review 104:The location was fantastic for visiting Kruger National Park and the Panorama Route. Our rooms were lovely. We really liked the garden setting, it was quiet and peaceful. The food and wine at the restaurant were excellent. All of the staff were friendly, happy and helpful. Everyone went that little bit extra to make our stay as enjoyable as possible, even to the point of washing our car before we left! The free wi-fi was a nice touch as well. We loved our stay and would go back in a heartbeat.

Review 105:Rissington is situated in a tranquil countryside of Hazyview. Our rooms were upgraded to their superior rooms which very generous of the staff. Surprisely, the food at Rissington restaurant was very tasty especially the crocodile curry. In addition, we had to leave early for our onward journey and the staff kindly packaged our breakfast for the journey.

Review 106:Not keen on the frogs. I know they do not do any harm, but it was a bit of a shock when one decided to jump on my pillow in the middle of the night.

Review 107:The whole place was so relaxing. It was in a beautiful setting, room and facilities were great and the staff were really helpful and welcoming. I loved the information file in the room, it was informative but also very entertaining. I read it from cover to cover.

Review 108:On the booking.com website Rissington Inn is described as having stylish rooms and elegant wooden furniture in each room. However, this is not true. The rooms are not modern or stylish and they have simple furniture in the rooms.

Review 109:Friendly staff.

Review 110:Some of the furnishings in the room are looking a bit worn out , like the bedside rugs. The light from the bedside lamps was a bit dim.

Review 111:Setting was great. The staff were fantastic , they made sure we had everything we needed. The restaurant food was excellent!!!!

Review 112:No other evening dining options in area, so rather restricted to the lodge when not out on safari or sightseeing.

Review 113:Well placed for Kruger Park Good rooms and facilities Friendly staff

Review 114:2nd visit after 9 years, lodge is still great. Staff is very friendly.

Review 115:slow service at meals

Review 116:Friendly staff. Comfortable rooms which had everything a person required.

Review 117:Very uneven stair step heights with no hand rails.

Review 118:Beautiful African gardens. Very quiet location.

Review 119:Large room with a good view. Staff was very helpful. The food was very good also.
