Reviews for Convento de Tibaes

Review 1:downside is the restaurant. We were tempted to eat here on first night, because there was no real alternative nearby. This was a big mistake. The "cooking" is done in an area the size of a cupboard, & the food seems to be micro-waved from frozen. There was no sign of any other method of cooking. Food was awful, & not particularly cheap, so avoid !

Review 2:The convent is a very peaceful spot, although there are lots of visitors always on site. Gardens are great, & the rooms very clean & comfortable. Friendly staff. Overall, a really nice place to visit, & we would return

Review 3:Only one staff member speaks English. For the rest you'll have to communicate in Portuguese or French. The location is difficult to find without a GPS and probably not handy if you don't have a car.

Review 4:The hotel is part of a beautifully restored old convent (with a church and beautiful gardens) which you are free to explore and which gives it a special charm. Perfect for a peaceful stay. The rooms are clean and nice and there is a good restaurant on the premises. I'd definitely stay here again!

Review 5:Wifi is not available in the rooms due to the density of the walls of course. If you have arthritis the bathroom handle might be difficult to use and it might be worth mentioning when booking, as there may be special rooms for different needs.

Review 6:We enjoyed our stay, the team were very obliging and food great. The museum is amazing and as it was raining an ideal place to spend our time. The hotel is very clean and modern, for instance we had to ask how to open the window as there is no handle :) and it is a glass wall between bedroom and bathroom with a curtain to give you privacy.

Review 7:everything was great

Review 8:Absolutely beautiful surroundings - peaceful and comfortable with fabulous food, too. It is a fascinating place and well worth your time to have a tour around the convent. We spent many hours exploring and learning about the convent and its history.

Review 9:Different lodging. Really a great place and the food was superb. The tour of the Church was outstanding and admission was free while staying at the convent.

Review 10:It would probably be better if they were more cared for gardens and orchards,so even though the property has a lot of charm.

Review 11:We liked everything, to stay little bit far away from town, but we've had our own vehicle to move around, it's absolutelly needful!!! There is no public transport ! Very good breakfest and very nice staff.

Review 12:Look for the signs on the riad since the place is difficult to find when using the GPS.

Review 13:We were the only guests in the Convento but the staff did everything to make our stay as good as possible. The property is stunning. Beautiful old monastery surrounded by lush gardens. The hotel section has been completely renewed in a minimalistic contemporary style. Very nicely done. There are still five sisters living in the convent who prepared a delicious dinner and breakfast for us. Also included in the room price is a free tour of the monastery, which is absolutely recommended!

Review 14:Airconditioning was not functioning. As it was hot during our stay, this was a little inconvenient. A technician was called, but it could not be repaired before we left. Staff brought a fan, though, and apologised profusely.

Review 15:FAN-TAS-TIC building in beautiful location, on a hill a few kilometres outside town, with a great view over the centre (you absolutely need a car). Room decorated in minimalistic but tasteful, boutique-hotel style. The hospedaria is managed by nuns, which gave the place a special feel. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast VERY nice and copious. Absolutely recommend taking the (free) audioguide tour of the amazing premises, including the beautiful gardens (which are in need of some maintenance, but this added to the special feel of the place, in my opinion). Don't miss out on staying in this exceptional place!

Review 16:Beautiful monastery....be sure to allow plenty of time to explore it. Excellent staff

Review 17:No negative comments.

Review 18:This is a lovely hotel with very dedicated and helpful staff. Would return any day.

Review 19:No wifi in the room but in a monastery we expect it

Review 20:The monastery. The amazing breakfast. The Staff. The place in general.

Review 21:Evening meals were advertised but not available and no restaurants nearbye.

Review 22:The rooms in the hospedaria are lovely if slightly unusual in their use of glass. The setting is beautiful and a visit to the monastery and church is included in the price. Make sure you have a look at the graveyard. Breakfast was very good.

Review 23:a bit far off, quite expensive, specifically the restaurant which was quite OK, but only pre-cooked food (we were the only guests..)

Review 24:the hospitality and friendliness of the nuns. the ambience and the visit of the monastaire - a must see!

Review 25:The pavement from the entrance of the complex to rhe entrance of the hotel has not been restored and is very very irregular. There should be a solution: a pavement in wood covering partially the stone lane!

Review 26:The staff was first class, the meals very good, the rooms simple but comfortable. But most of all the magnificent and beautifully restored monastery of Tibães.

Review 27:Please print a detailed map of the area before heading there (or get aGPS/data roaming on), specially if you're planning to arrive inthe evening. It is quite dark around (mountains) and no sign posts, etc.

Review 28:Hospedaria Convento de Tibaes is probably the best hotel I've beento. Rooms are small, however they're proper clean, simple, tasteful. The staff Paulo and Irmã Francisca couldn't be more helpful and wehad a lovely time of silence and peace over there. Even not beingreligious, I recommend the mass on Sunday at 11am. Nice to see alllocals going to church, it's a nice atmosphere.

Review 29:The lack of disabled people access, and the poor indications to get to the hotel/monastery

Review 30:The ambiance, the quality of the renovation, the kindness of the sisters in charge of the restaurant and hotel. The free guided tour to the monastery is a cherry on top

Review 31:nothing.

Review 32:The bathroom and the matress.

Review 33:Unbelievable, what a surprise

The Fine Print
