Reviews for Camp Ripan
Review 1:The food in the restaurant was perfectly serviceable, but not quite hitting the mark.
Review 2:Beautiful location in Kiruna, outside of the main town, so a better feeling of being remote. Lovely walks very nearby - really special in the snow at night. The spa is amazing, and well worth the entrance fee.
Review 3:The price a bit expensive. You have to pay for every additional service, even access to the spa. Also it's not that easy to see the northern lights from there.. you need to walk around 10-15 mins to the city center.
Review 4:The staff was very kind.
Review 5:The chalet itself was nothing like the photos on the web site it was warm and clean but certainly was not as well finished as it is the photos
Review 6:The location of the hotel was great and the reception was very well equipped and very welcoming
Review 7:The staff at Camp Ripan was great and I was very impressed with the facilities. My friends and I had to catch a 6am flight out of Kiruna, so the staff prepared us some very nice packages with breakfast for the morning. My room was very clean and the entire place looked quite beautiful! Thanks Camp Ripan!
Review 8:We found some of the staff to be quite unhelpful and lacking local knowledge. Activity centre staff could not give us much information about things to do, and didn't even know basic things like if the buses were running in the weekends.
Review 9:Great location, room and facilities. Awesome spot to stay in Kiruna.
Review 10:We found used chewing gum wrapped in a sheet of paper in one of the made beds on the first night :(
Review 11:Everything was great: the cabins, the restaurant, the staff...
Review 12:Expensive and the only inclusion was breakfast. Activities were also very expensive.
Review 13:Great place to stay and see the northern lights . Activity desk can arrange lots of different unique experiences.
Review 14:Not what the description and the pictures on the web promise. A chalet is a crammed room with a pantry transformed into a bedroom. It was extremely basic camping, very far from a 4* hotel. Everything was exceedingly expensive, guests don't even have free access to spa. We were with four people and it was extremely crammed and uncomfortable to sit in the chalet during day.
Review 15:Price could be slightly lower. I will book it earlier next time anyway.
Review 16:Could not fault any thing, i am suprised with the quality and service level that this hotel has to offer, its a 5-star feeling.
Review 17:Great place, very friendly staff, all the tours we did were fantastic. Dog sledding, cross country skiing, tour of the ice hotel, trip to Abisko and Snowmobile hunt for Northern Lights. The cabins were modern and clean, food was excellent, can't complain about anything.
Review 18:For the price we paid our room was tacky and our bathroom very old and run down. The shower was small and leaked. The staff were not knowledgeable and were not helpful with local recommendations and did not even know when the buses were running over New Years or how much things in the area would cost or if they were open. Very disappointed with the service. Barely adequate.
Review 19:The location, breakfast and spa were nice.
Review 20:Only one food choice at lunch! Make restaurant reservations day before. Gorgeous restaurant will be half empty but there will be "no availability" as staff does not know how to schedule tables properly. When this happens, you can still order food to take back to room if you don't want to walk to town or call a cab. Activity tours are very expensive but dog sledding was a blast.
Review 21:Spacious cabins, good food, activities
Review 22:Sent email asking for availability of certain winter activities, staff immediately booked and requested for full payment. It would be more pleasant to inform availability and proceed with booking after confirmation with hotel guest. The guest could be shopping for activities with other tour providers in parallel. Activities shop seemed undermanned.
Review 23:We booked Camp Ripan after not getting confirmation from IceHotel. It was a great alternative, good location with merely 15 mins walking distance from town centre. Informative website, helpful staffs who respond promptly to emails. Camp Ripan Kitchen staffs know their menu very well and dinner was superb! Saw the Aurora right above the skies of Camp Ripan after dinner.
Review 24:Was told to return 15mins later as we had arrived 7:45pm for our 8pm reservation. The staff claim they were full and busy when we could see row of empty tables which we later took our seats there! Fortunately she was not our server for the evening.
Review 25:The room, reception staff, 2nd level lounge, spa.
Review 26:Everywhere was clean, the beds were very comfortable. We like the big dryer in the chalet for our damped clothes and boots. The Spa was interesting. We also like to relax at the upper level lounge.
Review 27:Limited menu and restaurant closed from 3pm till 6pm which is generally when the trips have stopped. Very expensive a la carte menu. Had to pay extra to use the pool.
Review 28:nice clean modern hotel
Review 29:Absolutely beautiful location, comfortable cabins, helpful staff, able to economise and cook in the cabin or splurge at the amazing restaurant and treat yourself in the spa. Loved walking through the snow every morning for delicious breakfast.
Review 30:The hotel is 1.5 km from the center of Kiruna. The restaurant was expensive.
Review 31:Free wifi, free coffee or tea all day.The breakfast was very good with local products. The restaurant was very good too.The rooms were clean and well heated. Its very good location for winter holidays. You can see Aurora Borealis from Camp Ripan.
Review 32:Bar did not stay open very late. Tea and coffee were not refreshed in room; had to ask front desk for more.
Review 33:Staff were friendly. Town and hiking trails both reasonably nearby. Great place to see the Northern Lights. Easy access from airport. Minifridge and teapot in room. Lovely spa facility.
Review 34:Hotel staff was initially unclear about different wifi networks based on room location. Room temperatures are only controlled at the front desk. Restaurant doesn't offer a full menu at lunch time.
Review 35:Room and grounds were beautiful. Restaurant is extremely knowledgable. Breakfast was great and the hotel is in a spot far enough away from lights that the Aurora is completely visible on a good night.
Review 36:Did not realize that we had to pay to use the spa.
Review 37:Breakfast was good. Room was fine. Hotel helped make airport shuttle arrangements which was appreciated.
Review 38:Our last day there, Sunday November the 1st, everything went run out during breakfast. No sweets, no tomato, no cheese.... shame!
Review 39:Staff is very kind and helpful
Review 40:I think the spa price should be included in the price.
Review 41:Everything! The chalet, breakfast, location, staff, spa, the dinner and the northern lights sighting from our window!
Review 42:The cleaning facility didn't work well, when we asked for cleaning (via the card), it didn't happen and when we didn't want cleaning it was done. But this is minor as we really enjoyed our stay.
Review 43:The chalet was much better than an hotel bedroom. We liked the position, the independance and the facilities.
Review 44:Ran out of loo roll as there was only a small amount there when we arrived. Had the embarrassing of having to ask for more and walking through the camp with it. There was no spare in the room.
Review 45:Free day in the pool. Food was excellent.
Review 46:Wi-fi was down. Cooking facility rather limited so quite hard to really cook anything much. Restaurant quite expensive, but breakfast was very good.
Review 47:Great value. Close to town yet feels not too busy. Good spa on-site.
Review 48:Selling 2 bedrooms chalets, where the master bedroom is kitchen, living room all together in 15 meters, is cheating. The other room had space only for a double deck bed with none of it to open a luggage. Ridicously overpriced!
Review 49:Spa should definitely be free of charge for the hotel guests.
Review 50:Location, parking, cooking facilities, restaurant were quite decent. We enjoyed our stay at Ripan. Midnight sun trail was worth the visit.
Review 51:Queuing for check in. Things such as the outdoor pool or the sauna are charged, but there is no mention whatsoever in the costs, not on the website and not eve in the flyer that is given to the guests on arrival. . Location is among a residential area with tall apartment buildings, surrounding the lodges.
Review 52:The Swimming pool is nice.
Review 53:The walls in the cabins to the neighbor too thin. Also the drapes were 15 cm short on each side if the window to keep the midnight sun out.
Review 54:They have a very nice and inexpensive spa
Review 55:Central heating, which have to be adjusted by reception personel. It was too hot and responsible person was not able to do proper adjustment.
Review 56:Free parking just in front of the cabin. Quiet place. Good restaurant. Friendly staff. Comfortable będę. Dryer for wet clothes in cabin.
Review 57:-the spa and sauna were not included, you had to pay extra, and it was rather expensive and not worth it -we asked at the reception to print our boarding pass but during the 2 days we stayed there, they kept saying the e-mail wasn't working or different excuses -the room was clean, but at the entry, a broom was there to welcome you and a card in the room saying that at your depart, you were expected to clean your own room and take your own garbage out, or else an extra fee will be charged. We didn't expect that at a 4 stars hotel!
Review 58:-the room was big and cosy
Review 59:The staff was extremely helpful. The cabin was quiet, comfortable, well appointed, and even had a clothing dryer. The food was excellent and the room included a full buffet breakfast with many choices.
Review 60:The staff at the bar were no good, had no idea about mixing drinks! The bathroom needs a bit of freshening up.
Review 61:Location - Quite area just outside the city centre; short walk to the city centre and convenience stores. Good Cabins, comfortable beds. Kitchenette was basic but served the purpose. Staff were super friendly and very helpful.
Review 62:The stuga we stayed in was very basic, we even have to take out our own trash. For the money we paid (170EUR per night) I found this not value for money.
Review 63:Breakfast and restaurant are very good, spa was also nice.
Review 64:Spa price should be included. Would have needed sauna after the trip. 299kr is too much after the pricy cabin.
Review 65:Nice,young staff and great food. You can park your vehicles right in front of the cabins. Best reindeer I ever had.
Review 66:Had to pay for sauna. it wasn't really walking distance from the centrum as especially during winter. I was traveling w my parents and it was really kinda hard to walk the distance
Review 67:The cabins and the surroundings were pretty.
Review 68:There wasn't a lot of space in the lodge to un pack, even though only 2 people sharing. Would be useful to know that there is only 1 taxi firm in town and they close at night!
Review 69:Staff were really helpful, plenty of trips can be organised. Lodges were nice and warm! Good location, walking distance into town about 10-15 mins
Review 70:You had to pay nearly $50AUD if you wanted to use the heated pool; given the accommodation wasn't cheap that wasa bit steep. Breakfast was nice but a bit chaotic with heaps of people. They back up exactly 9:30 so make sure you get seconds in time!
Review 71:Room was beautiful, great lodge feel. We nearly stayed at the ice hotel but drove to the ice hotel instead and did a walk around. We were super happy that we had decided to stay at Ripan instead as it was much better value (and warmer).
Review 72:Didn't enjoy my night at the camp as much as i expected. After driving for 6 hours none stop i needed some rest and relaxing, but at the middle of the night(01.20) i woke up of a drunk finnish guy screaming the same words over and over again. I tried to ignore the yelling which continiously went on repeat, but he didn't seem to Get any further in the conversation he Was keeping to himself. Then i had to check out from the cabin after a horrific restless night at 11am. And ps the breakfast Was kind of messy. There wasnt simply enough tables and chairs for everyone to enjoy the breakfast. If you wanted to sit, eating your breakfast you litherally had to fight for a table and some chairs.
Review 73:Only minor things: The kitchenette could be better equipped. The fridge is more like a wannabe freezer, we had to throw away our food, so don't set it too cold.
Review 74:nice and clean cabins, modern and still cozy atmosphere. Great location to spot Northernlights (no issue with city lights). Breakfast was good! (Though the way the tables with the food are located are not optimal when there are a lot of people)
Review 75:Some dishes in the small kitchen were not clean.
Review 76:Nice and clean room. Comfortable beds. Good choice for breakfast. Parking in front of the cabin. Beautiful spa.
Review 77:Bathroom in room was small. Soap and shampoo were empty. Bed was small / short and for my weight and not good enough.
Review 78:The central location was good. The restaurant food was fine. Room size was good. We saw aurora, so good spot to see this.
Review 79:Our cabin was very small and furthest from reception as possible. Not great value for money - some of it felt a bit like a school camp..but it did technically have everything that was advertised.
Review 80:Breakfast was good. Aurora spa was absolutely beautiful and relaxing. Good wifi. Range of activities offered - not cheap though.
Review 81:I didn't like : - pay 299sek per person for the sauna+jaccuzi - the poor service offered by the staff -The excursions proposed by the hotel, much more expensive than the one on the Kiruna tourist information.
Review 82:- Very good breakfast - Nice room but surrounded by the only 4 high buildings of the city -
Review 83:I was slightly disappointed by the location as I was expecting this to be a remote(ish) wilderness camp whereas this is just on the edge of town. There was quite a lot of light pollution which isn't ideal as one of the reasons we went was to see the northern lights. That being said it was still very nice!
Review 84:The chalets are lovely, spacious, clean and comfortable. The area is amazing and there are lots of activities to do
Review 85:Camp Ripan offers many kinds of activities to guests so you don't have to book everything in advanced. The SPA place is tiny but not crowded at all. Kiruna is a wonderful place for skiing.
Review 86:Not much choice for dinner in restaurant although the food was good.
Review 87:Could see Northern Lights from cabin. Friendly & helpful staff. Generous breakfast & nice spa facilities
Review 88:Most of the staff were very helpful and friendly always smiling giving great customer Service but on a few occasion some of the staff weren't very helpful and would only give us very blank answer to our general enquires which wasn't helpful I felt they couldn't have responded better or ask someone else if they didn't know ...
Review 89:Breakfast is really good , the location is great aswell and have a great range of activities :)........
Review 90:There was no soap or shampoo in our room, meaning that housekeeping didn't check for it before giving us the room. Also, we were offered the hotel shuttle to the airport even though we were four people - meaning that we paid nearly twice the rate for a taxi! The staff reimbursed half of the fee, but they should have suggested the taxi as the cheaper option to begin with.
Review 91:First, the setting is in the city - it's not a "camp" - but that just means it's only a short walk to the city center. The rooms are comfortable, they have a nice spa (sauna, pool), and I enjoyed the breakfast.
Review 92:Not keen on the chalet bathroom as needed a revamp but shower hot and perfectly clean.
Review 93:Lovely location, just a 15 minute walk to Kiruna town centre. Fabulous lunch in the restaurant. Lovely clean chalet.
Review 94:We stay at the lobby waiting for check in for a long time, nearly 2 hours. It is said that check in time is 16:00, we arrived earlier but we checked in at 17:00, just because the room had not been cleaned for 2 hours!!!! The reception didn't care about whether their delay in check in time might affact guest's following arrangement. No wifi in the room. The radiator in the small room is closed, in such cold weather.
Review 95:The room is acceptable, breakfast is ok.
Review 96:Wifi was very bad in the cabins, basically couldn't use it
Review 97:nice breakfast; cabin nice as well, just maybe a little small with 4 adults and the suitcases if staying longer
Review 98:Unfortunately the first night of our staying, when we came back from the photography tour around 1:00am, our room key didn't work and the reception was closed! So we had to ask the next door guys to call the reception from internal phone, and it took around 45 min until we got the new key! We were freezing outside! Maybe the staff could be nicer and faster! And a 24-hour front desk can make this hotel super perfect.
Review 99:Spa was wonderful and lovely
Review 100:The restaurant at the Camp does not offer a wide variety of menues.
Review 101:At the end of the Camp is the entrance to the Midnattssolstigen, which is a trail leading through the beautiful landscape and there are maintained trails for cross country skiing as well. Since there is no light at night, it is a very good location to see the northern lights. The tour with the dog sledge was amazing and it is very comfortable and easy to rent equipment for skiing, a sledge etc.
Review 102:Restaurant was great! Staff very friendly! Wifi fast and little chalet rooms comfortable. Kitchen would be very small but we didnt come to cook anyway. Staff very friendly and helpful and helped us arrange different activities, also when we decided not to join their tours. They have good tours on offer though.
Review 103:The wifi in the cabins was weak and kept cutting out. Our cabin had too few towels for our party & light over sink/stove area too dim.
Review 104:The "Giron" cabin accommodations were well-equipped and comfortable, just right for our needs, and the breakfast in the lodge (included) scrumptious. Location on the edge of Kiruna is excellent (tho it didn't help us see the Northern Lights, as the sky was too overcast!)
Review 105:Nice room with everything, close to star hotel standard. Sweet and helpful staff. Nice restaurant though not much choices in the menu. Less than 10 minutes walk to the center. Can easily see northern light around.
Review 106:Reception, bar and restaurant stuff where a little rude and self absorbed, they would stand around and chat or do nothing when you were in clear sight trying to get there attention. Activity's booked through this camp where up to double the price of the same activity through other company's
Review 107:Food was great, room was amazing. Ski instructor was a champion very helpful.
Review 108:The choice of activities is extensive. We only had time for one adventure so we chose the northern lights snowmobile trip. Can't recommend this enough. Carl, our guide, was so patient and interesting. We even got to see the huskies he trains, including the puppies. What a treat. The hotel restaurant is excellent quality. The menu wasn't extensive but what there was lovely. The hotel rooms are spacious and very clean.
Review 109:It was a bit pricey but it is Sweden and it was over New Year. However I have no regrets in having paid this price as the accommodation was perfect for us.
Review 110:We loved the location on the edge of open forestland area. A couple of building back towards town behind the Camp but not imposing at all. It was a short 15 minute walk on the gorgeous snowy footpaths to town which was fabulous to collect supplies. We took the free sledges to carry them and the children back on! Plenty of space for the children (and adults!) to run and sledge down slopes within the grounds. We had an end apartment which got poor wifi but when I called reception they simply gave me the password for a different wifi they have which worked fantastically.
Review 111:Transfer was quite late in picking us up which in turn made us late for our activity. While trying to rush to check in, the receptionist insisted on us trying to choose what activities to do instead of our cancelled (due to weather) activities, all while running late to our booked activity. It was rather stressful. Also she did not mention breakfast times etc and the next morning we managed to make it in time, we overheard other guests complaining that the receptionist told them the incorrect breakfast time. The guest wanted to eat, and the lady had started clearing up the counter and refused the guest to go have a cup of milk. I thought this was rather rude as most of the items were still on the counter. The guest had to go to Reception in order to get permission to get a cup of milk that was still on the counter. Tours are overpriced and overbooked. We did several activites (snowmobiling and dogsledding) and there was way too much waiting for the activity to begin (at least an hour) as they are incredibly slow in getting prepared. As we did other tours in other places (IceHotel, Fjallet), due to the high amount of people and the actual reduced activity time, I do not recommend doing the activities here. There was a great informative guide though, an Italian named Fabio who was trying to speed up the other guides, but the other guides just took their time. Lastly the eggs from the breakfast were terrible and the Spa was also way overpriced for what it was. Overall I wasn't displeased but I wouldn't stay here again as there are nicer places.
Review 112:The camp is quite close to the town, so you can go easily and explore. The grounds are quite big and the cabins are lovely and heated. Everything looked very clean and the people were quite friendly. The internet worked without any issues, and everything is quite modern. The cabins are spacious and decorated to a high standard. Kiruna is very small and there isn't so much to do. If you wish to explore the town, then this is a nice place to stay for a couple of days. If you want to do activities, I strongly recommend going elsewhere as they are nicer and better value for money.
Review 113:Well, I'm a backpacker and still a student. So mainly I'm aiming for hostel. Therefore I found the price of a one-night-stay at this hotel is a little demanding. Also it's 15-20 minutes walk from the train station or the city center.
Review 114:The staffs are very helpful and very hospitable. The room are quite comfortable, including decent bed, kitchen, washing-room and so on. If you want to do a summer panaroma hiking around Kiruna, this hotel will be the best location since it right next to the starting point of the hiking route. They also provide dog-sleding and other activities that definitely can enrich your stay at Kiruna.
Review 115:no room with a bed for two, two single beds still make a gap between the two... Wifi is not really speed, but that is not what we were there for !
Review 116:the staff are so friendly ! Special thanks to Emma for the "leg killer" trail, that wo so perfect ! the location, ideal for northern lights directly from the room ! breakfast is really good too. Thanks to all of you !
Review 117:The cabin room was warm, comfy and functional. The location was 10 min walk to town. Food in the restaurant was great. They serve value for money lunch and was delicious. We saw Aurora lights Just outside our cabin and walked further into the viewing gallery for a better look. A really great place to stay.
Review 118:Stayed at Camp Ripan for one night prior to three night dog sledding tour. What a fantastic way to chill out after a long journey to get to Kiruna. The cabin was beautifully warm and cosy and a comfy bed for a good nights sleep. Staff were wonderful, breakfast tasty and lots of it. Spa was fantastic - extra cost, but worth it. Fully recommend Camp Ripan.
Review 119:The staff at the breakfast was very unprofessional. Whenever they ran out of something (which seems to happen with all the healthy things all the time e.g. cottage cheese, pineapple ) they tell you they will get more and just do not come back. Also the planning of the breakfast seems a big hassle for them. They do not manage to get enough of the things people like to eat and for the last 3 days of our time there they didnt even bother to buy them anymore because lots of people had already left. It was generally a great breakfast but this made it very unrelaxing which was unfortunate because everything else was really nice and especially the people at the activity desk were so nice. I hope they manage to get better in planning to buy everything enough for breakfast and train their staff for breakfast better
Review 120:the wifi was great, also the offered tours especially the all day snowmobile mountain tour with Goeran, he starts with a long drive to show you moose and shows you his and his wife house and it is very personal and lots of fun. The hotel itself is really nice too and we enjoyed the NYE dinner a lot!
Review 121:Thanks to the reception very much! I had forgot my wallet in the room. When I called the reception to ask for the help as I had checked out in the morning, they helped me to check carefully in the room and found it. Additionally they sent the wallet to me to my next hotel! Very professional hotel with best employees!
Review 122:WiFi was spotty in our apartment, connection was always lost again within a few minutes.
Review 123:Our own apartment with two bedrooms and a kitchenette. The Spa was nice.
Review 124:Don't be surprised, it is a large camp with more than 80 houses - it looks much smaller on the website.
Review 125:Great chalets, great staff, lots of activities available.
Review 126:Staff unfriendly, did not help Breakfast room crowded and uncomfortable. No service even Ehen no knifes Werke left. Wifi only at the Rezeption not IB the rooms. Shower dirty, Mätresse in the beds very thun. Sauna overpriced and not included in the expensive chalet Rates. Do not come here, save your money for something nice...
Review 127:Nothing
Review 128:the bathroom was not as luxurious as the rest of the accomodation, although very clean.
Review 129:the restaurant food was amazing. As for the cabin, it was spacious and very cozy
Review 130:too short stay...
Review 131:I liked and liked and liked: the whole setup. Cabanas, restaurant, food, staff. We've been doing a lot of outdoor winter activities and loved to come back to the sauna, beds, restaurant in Camp Ripan
Review 132:Wifi didn't reach the rooms (at least ours, which was at the end of a row). So go to lobby right? only open until 9pm. Want to hang out in the sauna / hot tub pictured all over the websites? Costs a lot of $ per person extra, bad enough, but not even open a few days out of the week which were the days we were there! Unapologetic staff was not helpful with anything.
Review 133:Rooms themselves are pretty nice. Breakfast was pretty good and included. Location fine as long as you have a car.
Review 134:Service at breakfast was slow in replenishing food that has run out
Review 135:Rooms were big and clean. Surrounding area covered with white snow and very lovely.
The Fine Print
