Reviews for Hotel Dona Sofia
Review 1:There are only six parking places in front of the hotel. We were lucky to get one, but otherwise it is difficult to find a parking place in this location.
Review 2:Excellent location just in the city center. Rooms are comfortable and especially the bathroom is large. We had a room with a balcony to the square with a very nice view. Breakfast is good.
Review 3:The elderly lady(owner?) who received the payment in the morning. She never looked at us, never smiled, never said good morning or thank you and had no other interest other than receiving our money and for us to leave.
Review 4:Everything.
Review 5:Poor wifi - at least on the upper floors. Very poor breakfast - wewern't even suprised by the lack of vegetables (only cheese, ham, yoghurt and cornflakes with milk) but... Orange juice was made ofconcentrate (often too much diluted), tea was tasteless and coffee...Not so good like in any cafe in Portugal. And on each table only onelittle piece of butter per person (4 per a table), 2 little jams and 1little honey. I write about this, because the breakfast was reallycontrasting with the rest of hotel service.
Review 6:Nice and helpfull staff. Very comfortable beds. Clean. Perfectlocalization in the historic centre.
Review 7:The guide books warned that GPS did not work effectively in Braga because the city is always changing one way streets etc. It was a nightmare. I booked (I thought) with cancellation possibility but unfortunately it was not and I was stuck in this hotel for 2 days when one was enough. Also I requested a double bed room and got two singles. Why does happen so often in both Spain and Portugal especially to single males? I made the bookings and a female friend consistently got doubles.
Review 8:Location was central but ...
Review 9:This is on the edge of the pedestrian area and near to some good restaurants with reasonable prices. Breakfast is excellent and staff very helpful. Highly recommended.
Review 10:only negative was that my room(101) faced onto a main cobbled road which made for some unwelcome noise during the night.Try to avoid
Review 11:Superb value for money if you get a room for 40 euros per person per night.
Review 12:Despite of being on the 3rd floor we've ear a street fight at 2.00 am. Could be an isolated situation but it last more than half an hour. The hotel staff had plenty of time to call the police.
Review 13:The location close to the historic center.
Review 14:Wifi signal is weak in some rooms. The parking lot is small. Not the best place to walk around during the night in the low season (it's downtown in the old town, so streets are empty at night). Even nearby restaurants don't stay open until very late in the low season. Breakfast is very weak, a big disappointment.
Review 15:Location, location and location. Friendly and helpful staff. During the day, this is the best place to start your tour of the old town. Almost beside the famous Braga cathedral. Rooms are comfortable and clean. I would certainly stay with them again.
Review 16:Omlette or something hot would be preferable for breakfast
Review 17:Location is excellent, it is located right in the center of the city/ Hotel is clean and the personel is polite.
Review 18:Breakfast is rather meagre but if you are happy with a little fruit, bread and cheese then it's fine. I found the bed and pillows very hard but again, that's just me.
Review 19:The location cannot be beaten if you only stay a few days in Braga this hotel is ideally placed for exploring the town, very clean and tidy hotel with no frills.
Review 20:The hotel has a charm about it and you can feel the love they put into it. Everything is impeccable and the breakfast that is included is outstandimg. Great valie for the money as there are no flaws. I really enjoyed the vontahe radiosystem in the room.
Review 21:We chose it because it is wheelchair accessible. This is true - just. I had to remove the footplates from my standard sized chair to fit in the lift and the door to the bathroom was only just wide enough.
Review 22:We had a fabulous room, light airy with great views. The staff were really helpful. It's perfectly placed for exploring Braga.
Review 23:Difficult finding restaurants to eat at in the evening before 8 p.m. Have learned to eat our big meal at lunch time
Review 24:Very convenient to walking around the town center, small shops and pasterias. Parking at hotel was most welcomed.
Review 25:A bit hard to find on arrival. (Location turned out to be great after learning the city.) Slippery/dangerous plastic mat in shower.
Review 26:Atmosphere, location, ac worked well. Recommended.
Review 27:Free parking was first come first served and cars blocking others in, if you went out you lost your place. Bed wasn't comfortable and pillows hard. We had an early start on leaving so disappointed to find no hot water to make tea.
Review 28:Walking distance to town. Our room looked over the square. Friendly staff spoke very good English, very helpful.
Review 29:Actually nothing.
Review 30:Clean, quiet hotel. Personel was helpful. Breakfast was simple but good (fresh fruit, yogurt, bread, cheese, meat, juice etc). Coffee was so-so. Good location in the middle of Braga. Rooms were simple but clean. Free, quick WIFI. I would go there again!
Review 31:Despite having satnav we had great difficulty finding the hotel. Eventually we were helped out by a young couple who came in the car with us. Perhaps it was because we were their on the weekend of their big religious festival - an amazing sight !
Review 32:We had a large room overlooking a square. All the staff were charming and helpful. The location is very close to the main sights. However ...
Review 33:Difficulty in finding the hotel, the sat nav is not up to date with new one way systems.
Review 34:Light,pleasant room with a balcony. Good breakfast and the receptionist spoke erygood English

Review 92:Location ,parking .wifi, good basic breakfast .. Very clean and a great hotel .Staff wonderful .
Review 93:The breakfast items, like juice being provided and not cordial and better tea and coffee would be appreciated
Review 94:We booked and prepaid over the internet for a twin room and breakfast for 3 nights. Arrived at the train station and caught a taxi to the hotel Dona Sofia. The taxi could pull up in front of the hotel. A very efficient informative check in and we were allocated room 311. There is a lift servicing all floors, and very good English is spoken. A big thank you to Manuela for her helpful attitude in printing our onward train tickets, and the bus timetable and directions to Bom Jesus do Monte. All done with a smile. Our room overlooks the square. It's a spacious room, with everything in excellent working order. TV, efficient A/C system, mini bar and comfortable, if a little firm, beds. There is plenty of room for 2 people and their luggage, which is not always the case. The ensuite was larger by Portuguese standards with good water pressure for the shower over the bath. Minimal toiletries, but really I think most people prefer their own. Both windows in the ensuite and room are openable, which we like. Bottled water is not complementary. Wifi is free and fast. Breakfast is the basic continental type, laid out buffet style. There is cereals, yogurt, fresh fruit like apples and oranges, smoked meats and cheese, bread, rolls and some sweeter croissants. Cordial like orange juice. Jams and honey and butter in little packs on the tables. Tea and coffee as well, but not good quality as urns are used. The food is regularly replenished. The breakfast though is the low point in an otherwise excellent hotel. The location is excellent for exploring this vibrant city which is easily done on foot. Except Jesus Do Monte, which is accessible by local bus from the stop along Avenida da Liberade, so not far from that bus stop either. We think Hotel Dona Sofia represents good value and recommend it.
Review 95:Good location, sites are within walking distance. We were pleasantly surprised that there is an ongoing Roman festival which we enjoyed; it was nice that we just walked to and from the hotel. There are only a few parking spots in front of the hotel but there is a public parking garage close by. Breakfast was good, just enough variety.
Review 96:Merely the minor point that the bathroom was cold, but then it was February, and we did not have the heat on for long
Review 97:the location central to the historical, allowed us to come and go, to refresh ourselves. The atmosphere was relaxing, with a comfortable feel to it.
Review 98:Perfect location in a quiet area, in the very center of the city. Comfortable, large and quiet bedroom. The staff was ever so helpful and was happy to answer my many questions about Braga. Excellent value for money. Strongly recommended!
Review 99:Very comfortable and central place. Nice surrounding. A very good place all considered where to spend a few days visiting the town and the surrounding areas.
Review 100:However great in every other sense, the hotel can not be said to be suitable for families with young children - or for other guests when there are families with young children staying at the hotel. The walls are extremely thin and not sound proof in the least, so every little noise travels far. Other than that, the staff was helpful in providing a cot, and there was a chair for children in the breakfast room.
Review 101:The location was excellent and the staff fairly helpful and accommodating. The breakfast buffet had all the necessities and was nicely presented and fresh. The rooms were spacious and clean. All in all I would definitely recommend Dona Sofia to anyone except to families with young children.
Review 102:Breakfast could be better
Review 103:The location is excellent. It is not a luxurious hotel by any means but the rooms were clean and spacious. Parking was great.
Review 104:Very hard to find within the walled city.
Review 105:The location is perfect for a stay in Braga. The staff were efficient and hotel, very clean with rooms spacious and comfortable
Review 106:We can't possibly ask for more for this low price!
Review 107:Very friendly staff, large rooms, inexpensive and very centrally located. Very good value for money.
Review 108:Hot water for tea/coffee comes from a dispenser - not always hot enough. It would be nice to get a pot of tea rather than carrying the cup and saucer back and forth.
Review 109:Central Location. Everything you want from a hotel.
Review 110:Beautiful scenery. Central. Spacious
Review 111:Proximity to centre of town, ease of parking
Review 112:Staff were excellent especially receptionists who shared their knowledge of the city and restaurants in a very easy and efficient way.
Review 113:The staff were friendly and very helpful
Review 114:Location is great...can walk to every important site. A few blocks off the main square.
Review 115:Just about everything....
Review 116:Everything
Review 117:Quite good
Review 118:Nothing.
Review 119:Location. Most historical sites within easy walking distance. Nice clean rooms. Friendly and helpful staff.
