Reviews for Huan Chiang Dao Resort

Review 1:The property is a couple of kilometres out of town. We walked into town on our first day and then ride bicycles out to see the cave on our second day. You really need some kind of transport though, to get around and see more of what the area had to offer.

Review 2:The staff was very helpful and always had a smile for us and the breakfasts and dinner we ate there were delicious. Although the owner was away during our stay, the manager did an excellent job making us feel welcome and looking after our needs. The swimming pool was very refreshing after our long bike ride.

Review 3:A little bit tricky to find when it's dark, sharp turn from a motorway

Review 4:Nice countryside place Cosy wooden huts with outdoor area for evening chat and drinks Decent breakfast

Review 5:The owner and staff here are just amazing! We love the property, and it is a great place to base yourself for some hiking, or just to relax in the high altitude countryside to get away from the bustle of Thailand's cities. The restaurant is excellent and reasonably priced, and we ate there every night of our stay. I highly recommend renting a scooter to explore the nearby sites.

Review 6:The owners and staff were very friendly and keen to ensure we had a good stay. We spent lots of time chatting and he gave us ideas on places to go. He also provided a mattress topper. Food was good and plentiful at breakfast and in the evening. Slightly off the beaten path. We visited the nearby caves, Temple on the mountain side, waterfall and hot springs.

Review 7:The resort is located at the southern end of the town (not much anyway), compared to some other accommodations it is not too close to the main attractions such as the temple, the cave and the summit headquarters. However, it's about 10km only so a motorbike / bike is definitely doable (as long as you are not as small as me).

Review 8:The German owner Joachim is very hospitable, friendly and helpful. Not only did he pick us up from the bus stop on our arrival and gave us a lift on our departure, when I was unable to find a bike suited my small size he kindly drove us to the very nice temple Samnak Song Tham Pha Plong then picked us up at the cave, then next day drove us to Doi Chiang Dao headquarters to arrange our day hike to the wonderful summit. He really did an extra mile to help us enjoy Chiang Dao. The onsite restaurant offers delicious Thai food, large portion at great price. We had 1 lunch, 2 breakfasts and 2 dinners and were very happy with all the dishes we had, especially the awesome green curry. The resort is very large with a beautiful garden, a pleasant pond and a swimming pool. The bungalow is a little dated but nonetheless clean and comfortable.

Review 9:The bathroom could use a little bit of renovation.

Review 10:The owner and staff was the best part of our stay. They went above and beyond to make sure the guests enjoy their stay at the hotel. They gave us a couple of rides to places in town and gaves a whole lot of tips what to see.

Review 11:Location is somewhat out of town, but no big problem.

Review 12:The staff is super friendly and helpful. The grounds are beautiful and quite, with clean cabins. We rented both bikes and bycicles at the resort.

Review 13:The resort was a beautiful peaceful place to stay. The hosts and staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The meals werewere. great so fresh and tasty. Will be going back.

Review 14:Bungalows set in lovely garden with small pool for dipping in after a hot day. Management and staff exceptionally friendly and helpful with good food for both breakfast and evening meals. All round a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Great stay for us for two weeks, whilst most people just stayed a few days.

Review 15:A little resort. Very friendly and helpful stuffs. A beautiful garden and a verry clean pool. The rooms small but every clean with a large releases. The restaurant serve every delicious food. I will come again

Review 16:Breakfast was a big of a hassle for 12 person. I would call this a resort but more a cosy back packing place.

Review 17:Nice location to stay for a night. Friendly Thai staff, the owner always ready for help.

Review 18:None.

Review 19:The location is quite convenient by the main road (whose noise is not an issue really, especially if you get a bungalow on the back near the pool). The chalets are not big but welcoming and clean. Breakfast choices were not many but quality was ok. Overall food quality of the restaurant was quite good. Swimming pool small but well maintained. Scooters cheaply available for touring the place. I would look no further for a few nights' stay in Chiang Dao.

Review 20:Nothing

Review 21:The staff was soo friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. Recommended us the best places to visit and also even took us with their truck free of charge when it was too far away. Gave us a really nice rooms and brought us hand picked fruit from the trees. Just a great experience and would highly recommend it to anybody that is going to chiang Dao. Did not have any lizards or insects in the room either which was great.

Review 22:The village it self. But the surrounding is good to visit

Review 23:Nice big bungalow; The people, the ambiance; Clean. Helpful; they gave us good advice for visiting point of interest

Review 24:It is unfortunately next to the main rd so would ask for a room at the further end of the resort but Joachim is also planning on planting som bamboo to help with the traffic noise. I would let this put you off as it was such a great base to explore the area.

Review 25:We had such a warm welcome from the moment we arrived and received helpful advice about the local area. I had asked for some soya milk which Joachim kindly stocked up on for my 2 year old who is allergic to milk so it was nice to have this option provided. We absolutely loved the setting! They have worked extremely hard on the tropical beautiful gardens and felt like an oasis. The swimming pool although cold was a welcome relief from the heat of the day. The room was small but comfortable and the bed hard but that's the way I like to sleep. Everything was spotlessly clean. all the staff were delightful and friendly. We hired a motorbike from Joachim and had such fun exploring the area. The temple with the 500 steps was one of our favourite things in Thailand. Make sure you don't miss going to the thursday night market it was really traditional and the food so cheap and delicious. Having nostalgia thinking about it now we are home!

Review 26:if plan to go do Chiang Dao in February, please combine it with the Shambhala Music Festival. it visited the resort already in November 2014, nothing changed the staff is so friendly and helpful. take the time to visit the villages and the nature around Chiang Dao. Joachim or Thong are very hepful to plan your trips.

Review 27:Could hear the noise from the road.

Review 28:Staff were very friendly and owners couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable. Gardens were excellent and great to have a pool. The food was the best we tasted during our three weeks stay in Thailand.

Review 29:The WiFi could have been a bit stronger at our bungalow, but it was good at the restaurant. I'd book a bungalow there again without hesitation.

Review 30:Beautiful grounds with very comfortable and clean accommodations, the staff are friendly and very helpful.

Review 31:The bed was incredibly hard, shame as everything else was great value for money.

Review 32:Garden setting with small pool and spotlessly clean. The staff were so friendly and helpful, even to our driver. The food and prices were great.

Review 33:Noise...the local nasty karaoke booming from a neighbouring site was in full song.I understand this happens mostly at weekends rather than during the week BUT it did stop just before midnight. That enabled a quietish night. The road noise was not significant but could be heard in the background ...acceptable once inside your room.. But I would stay there again as nowhere can escape this modern trend.when will they learn bass is dangerous ...and singing in tune od also preferable. Had some WiFi drops on several different devices...stick to just email and casual browsing... This is not a big city area so compromise!

Review 34:The accommodation was clean and pleasant with nice garden areas. Staff were really attentive... Nice breakfast.pool area was nice to hang around water a little cool.very pleasantly lit at night with verandahs

Review 35:I feel as I stand by a very lovely family. All was perfect for me. The stuffs very friendly, the food super and the room realy clean with a big terrace. The garden very beautiful with a little lake

Review 36:The bed was a little too hard even for thailand. Shower was fussy to get hot , had to turn it to weak spray to work.

Review 37:The staff ..the cleanliness.. Breakfast really good..easy scooter rental.. Being picked up from bus ,also driven there and back to street market.Helpful guiding us to sites. The gardens are lovely . Enjoyed our private porch every night.Would recommend for sure .

Review 38:No

Review 39:What a beautiful rain forest garden even if when I arrived this resort in heavily rain. Warm welcome. We had dinner in resort, ordered fried fish and soup tong yum gong, wonderful cuisine! Location is good especially for self-driving, near Chiang dao cave.a transfer stop to fang and chiang rai that can't miss.

Review 40:The location was not very close to the city (2 km walking from public bus stop) and if you want to get there by songteo, you have to pay the same as if you go 10 km far. The shower was not warm enough and the weather there could be very cold at night and in the morning.

Review 41:The place has a beautiful garden and decoration. The owner and the receptionist were really kind and helpful. They took us to the city center and offer us their bikes. The food was very good.

Review 42:Perfect place to recover from daily stress. Also good base camp to discover the nature of northern Thailand. Special thanks to Joachim and Kid for their hospitality, fine atmosphere and excellent food.

Review 43:Nothing I would change, except I wish we had more time!

Review 44:The grounds were beautiful and the staff were very, very nice. The owner even offered to drive us to the caves one day and the bus station when we were leaving

Review 45:Fantastic service, staff very friendly and owner went out of his way to be helpful and sort out activities in the local area. Great for all ages including families.

Review 46:The chalet was lovely and spotless. Delightful little pool in stunning surroundings. Great food in the restaurant and the hosts could not have done any more to help us and make us feel welcome.

Review 47:Just off the main road lies this little jem. The team was so most welcoming we got served drinks our choice at arrival. And the wooden bungalows were clean and friendly. Emideately we got not only the extra bed but also a babycot with no extra charge. The setting is in a wonderful well kept garden with a small pool. The restaurant lies on a little fish lake but they Dont dare to catch them (also this was the plan). The team is most friendly and not only Joachim and ked drove us wherever we wanted they also showed us places wich are (surprisingly) not found in any guidebook. And that for a contribute to the gasoline. The Tuesday market is really huge and authentic no tourist stuff sold at all. No idea why this place is in no guidebook.

Review 48:It is not related to the resort itself but if you do not like to see chained elephants drawing and doing other not natural stuff, avoid going to the Chiang Dao Training Camp or other places that offer riding an elephant. There is an Elephant Nature Park nearby that is doing much better job in treating poor animals.

Review 49:The place is new, very clean. Owner is great, will help you to organize your stay. The best is to have your own car/moto as there are things to do around. The resort is near the road so you should expect some minor noise.

Review 50:Beautiful Resort, the city of Chiang Dao could be easily reached. Excellent food, incl. breakfast,Thai and European meals. you could relax at the pool or on the terrace of your own bungalow. it´s an perfect location for an stopover on your way to the north or staý more than a week as I did to visit the caves, hot springs or the near by Thai villages and people.

Review 51:NOTHING!!!!!!

Review 52:What a wonderfull place... Not far away of Road but It seems to be lost in country side.. The owner Joachim is so nice and close to his clients...the confort is perfect.. Bungalows are new and nice... Nothing was missing...please, GO!;)

Review 53:I stayed just one night and found the resort to be good value for the money. Relaxed area and beautiful garden made the stay pleasant. Large rooms with the necessary equipment made my sleep comfortable. And a personal service from the kitchen made the stay extra pleasant with good cooking.

Review 54:Hard mattress is the only negative, but that is entirely my choice and most Thai beds are the same

Review 55:I loved every minute. The staff make Huan even better than it could be. There are kind, happy, very friendly and do more than would be ever required to make your stay fun and comfy. I like a soft bed so , as in most of Thailand the mattresses were hard. Only fault, that is only my like. Lovely tropical grounds , I ground pool , managers take you on Outings and sightseeing :). I loved my three nights here. If there was a little more markets and colourful shopping I could've stayed longer :)) thank u to the managers and staff. Especially Ked.... She is a beautiful generous woman xx

Review 56:Beautiful and very small resort. Just 8 bungalows with each two rooms. The rooms are nice, clean and have a fridge. The pool is new, he just put it in. The cook makes really good local food.

Review 57:Handy for local attractions and right by main road (rooms are further back so no traffic noise)

Review 58:This place is like heaven. The owner is a very nice person and honest. We love this place.

Review 82:Loved the gardens and the individual bungalows.

Review 85:Absolutely nice. Very helpful owner. Very nice garden. Swimming pool.

Review 86:Nothing!

Review 87:The personnel is doing absolutely everything he can to satisfy you. Nice individual bungalows. Family business. Extremely nice staff.

Review 88:The resort are edge the highway from Chiangmai to Fang the noise of vehicle was noisy.

Review 89:Comfortable room and full facilities . Naturally old garden and near the mountain.

Review 90:We had a great time at Huan Chiang Dao Resort. While the facilities were excellent, the best part of our stay by far was the staff! From the moment we arrived it was clear that our experience was the top priority of the proprietor and everyone else working at the resort. He attended to our every need including arranging a motorbike for us to rent, suggestions of things to see and do in the area, and even drove us to some nearby attractions free of charge. The hospitality could only be considered second to the amazing food. The women cooking in the on-site restaurant would simply ask us what we wanted (Thai food, Western food, I even once gave the answer "surprise me!") and in minutes we would be eating some of the best food we had on our entire tour of the country. I could not picture our trip without it!

Review 91:Very good place. The director and staff waited us with à plate of fruitsand ice tea. The room is Nice. Quiet place, very beautiful garden and àswimming pool soon... Restaurant is very good european/thaïfood.enjoy!!

Review 92:The outdoor pool is still under construction as Joachim has been let down by the supplier. You really require your own transport to get around the area.

Review 93:The bungalows are sited back from the road in a lovely area of trees which helps to keep the rooms cool. The grounds were immaculately kept. Joachim & his team are super friendly & helpful & make you feel at home. Breakfast was served on an open deck overlooking the small lake & was delicious. We ate our evening meals here as the excellent cooks prepared everything to order. The meals were delicious & good value. On arrival we were presented with cold drinks & a plate of fresh fruit. My husband even received a cake for his birthday. All through our 3 day stay, we received a very personal service which included some lessons in the Thai language.
