Reviews for Sabie River Bush Lodge
Review 1:The bathroom and floor finishes could do with some attention.
Review 2:the location, is on the river with ecellent outlook into the park. Elephants and hippos viewed from the terrace. The game drives organised by the hotel were also excellent and we saw the big five and more.
Review 3:Had an Issue with the charge for a five year old No help or discussion from the manager did not contact me to discuss
Review 4:Very relaxing Environment Staff were excellent. Lovely Touch - the Braai on the Sun Deck on New Years Eve.
Review 5:It's a beautiful place full of green and with amazing view. During the dinner we observed hippo our "neighbor". The staff was very polite and available for any our request. Delicious breakfast and dinner. Magic place. We'll turn back!!!
Review 6:The staff are exceptional, especially Edwell and Reason. While relaxing on the deck, we had visits from elephants and hippos. The food is delicious South African food.
Review 7:No vegetarien food as main course on dinner menu, no moscito mesh in the luxury tent, some animals in bathroom and tent (spider, cockroaches, mini scorpion) but probably you have to expect this when you are next to the bush/nature
Review 8:Extraordinary friendly staff, very good food, inexpensive lunch, carwash over night, well situated to Kruger NP Gate, great Morning Safari with Willem, a hippo in the sabie river 20m away from the pool
Review 9:The aircon leaked and we request a small bin be put in the room, the lodge is superb other then that
Review 10:Extremely friendly staff, lovely meals and the view was simply amazing, my girlfriend and I will definitely be going again soon
Review 11:Everyone was very friendly and helpful. There where loads of animals in and around the river each evening. Very relaxed environment. I recommend staying here you will not be disappointed.
Review 12:The fact that the bathroom and kitchen were separated from our tents. This would not have been a problem if this was disclosed from the beginning. The website does not accurately describe the setting of this and the website gallery gave no indication too. I think that the pictures should be updated on the website showing this so in future prospective guests can decide if they would like to book this particular tent. If I had seen this from the beginning, I would have booked a different tent. We weren't very happy when we arrived after seeing all of this. I think the dinner prices per person are a little expensive too. The price does not justify the value for what you get. Lastly the location is average. The reason I say this is because, often you can music being played (blasted) from the one of the bars on the main road. This spoiled a perfect atmosphere of lying on the deck chairs, looking into the Kruger, hearing the sounds of nature and then it all gets ruined by this music. Was a big let down for me.
Review 13:The setting was great, the deck overlooking the Kruger is a real gem. We spent most of our time there. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the overall service was very good.
Review 14:Nothing really to complain about the place I call it my new second home.
Review 15:Friendly staff from the every minute we walked inn with my wife. Place is clean, well organised too. Ill be coming once again December!!!!! I loved every moment, I swear!!!
Review 16:There were cockroaches in the room, the wifi wasn't very good. They promised us vegetarian food and took details of what to prepare, however they served us something completely different - rice covered with baked beans with cauliflower & broccoli as a 'curry''.
Review 17:The staff is helpful & friendly. It is one of the closest hotels to Skukuza for a comparative lower rate, but still expensive for the facility
Review 18:I would have liked a hair dryer in the room
Review 19:This place was idyllic on the banks of the Sabie River with two hippos entertaining us in the river at breakfast time. The room was extremely clean and comfortable. The staff were extremely welcoming and friendly - we found that our car had been washed when we were heading off in the morning. We felt very secure within the hotel compound and would definitely return.
Review 20:The booking I made was for a luxury tent with bathroom. That was whatwas advertized with booing.com and the pictures on the site proved it.I however got a "luxuary" tent with a outside bathroom andhad to pass other geusts to get there. There was no mirror in the tentto be able to do hair and make-up. The add showed a dressing table. Themusic from the Tavern next door was very disturbing until early hoursof the morning.
Review 21:The view over the Sabie River was nice, having our own kitchen was aplus point. My car being washed every day was terrific.
Review 22:Don't drink the tap water. There isn't any info to warn you but I was really ill and the staff told us too late that some people do get ill.
Review 23:Amazing river side location with elephant coming to drink and every evening a hippo grazes. Fantastic!
Review 24:Small single room without TV and small bathroom.
Review 25:Dinner the evening next to river. Staff very friendly, but remember this is for Leisure not business,
Review 26:room smelled muggy on the first day (gone after ventilation)
Review 27:Great view on the Sabie River with a good chance to see game (even from the pool) Good breakfast and dinner Daily car wash by the staff
Review 28:Excellent location. Staff were fantastic..say hi to Isaac for us! Food was very good and they washed our car. .every day..even when it hadn't moved! Loved it and would go back.
Review 29:20 minutes drive from Hazyview (stores, supermarket, ATM, etc.)
Review 30:Wonderful view on the Krugerpark. Wachting Elephants and Hippo from the pool (amazing). Good food Very friendly staff. We did the full-day Safari organized by Sabie and it was very nice. Good experienced guide and see a lot of wildlife.
Review 31:The service - nothing was too much effort and every staff member went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable and pleasant as possible. The deck is beautiful!
Review 32:The guide for The safari was not interesting. It is much better to book a safari with a guide from the Krüger park.
Review 33:The view and the equipment, The personnel and The location were perfect.
Review 34:Fantastic location, very near the Paul Kruger Gate. Also a great view, we saw some elephants while we arrived and just after diner there was a hippo grazing around.
Review 35:Nothing really, perhaps the parking could be extended and the setting at the cabins, we had no iron and just cups but no glasses but that was the least of our concerns.
Review 36:We booked a log cabin and it blew our minds away we expected a shabby cabin without space but it was opposit. It had a lounge and spacious bedroom and bath. The place is peaceful and stuff is friendly.
Review 37:None
Review 38:We stayed in one of the tents and had a wonderful time there!! It was spacious and comfy, even if the bathroom wasn't private/ensuite. The deck was lovely and the staff super friendly!! All thumbs up!!
Review 39:A wonderful view from the Lodge area. Living here is the same as living in the park, you live on the border to it. When we came we faced approx 30 elephants from less then 100 meters. Wonderful. Just 20 minutes drive to Krüger Gate. Lovely staff , good breakfest and lovely dinners.
Review 40:This place was great. The staff were friendly and great location. There were hippos and elephants out the front. Great views of river. They clean your car. Would reccomend this place and will be back next visit to kruger
Review 41:There was simply nothing not to like, the service was incredible, the food delectable, the staff warm and friendly, the accommodation comfortable and inviting, the views spectacular.
Review 42:Not so nice general facilities and huts in terms of decoration and bathroon. In general, no specialy nice or cozy place compared to other possibilities of lodgment inside the Kruger park like the national camps.
Review 43:Location: near Paul Kruger gate with no much other options if you don´t want to pay a fortune and sleep outside the park while you are visiting it. Location in front of the river was good too. Staff was very nice and helpful. Food included makes the prize not so high. Food was good enough.
Review 44:The dinner on Saturday was not good. We had dry rice, the mushroom soup had the entire pepper pot in and the desert had to be cut with a knife. The bathroom had a sour smell.
Review 45:The dinner on the Friday night was superb. The animal sightings from the deck was enjoyed.
Review 46:Anything
Review 47:Everything Views to the river. Having dinner while watching the hippos and ellies. Cozy tents Friendly and really helpful staff Nice dinner and breakfast
Review 48:Nothing was totally to our satisfaction
Review 49:Sabie River Bush Lodge was fantastic,in a very nice Setting beautiful gardens, deck to watch the wildlife at the waterfront and pool to enjoy Our house for 6 was a large on stilts with big terrace right next to the river. At nightfall the Hippos came out to graze and were only a few metres from us ....auwsome. Food and Service great. The "Tent" was very very Special also with ist inside and outside shower with view of the river Great place to stay we would all do it again...it we could
Review 50:The staff were very friendly & they went out of their way to provide us vegan food & we really appreciate their attitude. The location & the whole surroundings made us feel so comfortable , which is essential for any holiday.
Review 51:Tent 1,2,3 do not have ensuit bathrooms, the kitchen block and the ablutions are outside the tents approx 40m away. This was not clear when booking. We booked the luxurry tent and were very disappointed. The staff was very friednly but the logde was fully booked so we had to saty in these tents.
Review 52:It is a great lodge and the location is stunning, die staff very friendly but if you want an ensuit bathroom in the luxury tent make sure while booking you book the right tent (not tent 1,2,3)
Review 53:Did not like the kitchen and bathroom facilities separate from the accommodation. I felt the advertising was misleading.
Review 54:The deck overlooking the Sabie River
Review 55:I liked the layout of the well maintained property, the view from the lodge and the fact that my car was washed every morning. Great decking area overlooking Sabie River with a small pool. Occasional game views in Kruger Park, while having a drink and relaxing. Probably the best holiday I have ever had. Kruger is amazing!
Review 56:Close to the local village with gumba-gumba music playing in the evening. Beers could have been a bit colder.
Review 57:The room was clean and comfortable and the staff very helpful and pleasant. Sitting on the deck watching the elephant accross the river was very relaxing and enjoyable
Review 58:Only downside was the WIfi coverage (only on certain areas)
Review 59:Perfect lodge on a perfect location. You can see the Kruger elephants and rhinos in the Sabie river at +- 20 meters. Great service and good comfort in tents
Review 60:Rooms too crowded and small uncomfortable, wifi dies not realy wirk and there are hackers on the property trying to hack in twice on my phone late night hours, please question or investigate!!!!??? Don't think that this was value for money and will not stat there again! We paid and booked via internet yet paid huge excessive rate as opposed the usual rate when you book in on site !!!!
Review 61:WLAN connection from the tents was difficult. Tipp regulations unclear. Different statements from the staff. Unsure if the tipp reaches the staff.
Review 62:Close to Kruger National Park. Nice and friendly staff. View from the Pool on the river of the national park. Hippos in the water. Nice 3 course dinner. Separate bathrooms for the camping dormitories. The staff washed the car.
Review 63:If you take the transfer from the hotel to the airport, make sure that they put enough gas in the car.
Review 64:The full day game drive was great, the guide was so helpful and we saw the big five.
Review 65:A great experience next time I will book a luxury tent with bathroom.
Review 66:The friendly staff and intimate experience in a great location. Very well run, excellent food and wine, beautifully designed rustic lodge, pristine surroundings, well maintained and family managed. Great attention to detail and we will be back for longer next year. Well done to to everyone
Review 67:Set menu at the restaurant, which can cause problems if you do not get in early (i.e. some of the courses may run out early). Not entirely their fault, but they could minimize the hassle by asking people in the morning to select their preferred dinner meal (hint-hint).
Review 68:Extremely friendly staff. Had a fantastic overall experience. Central between two gates at Kruger. Great value for money IMHO (would definitely stay again).
Review 69:We stayed in a tent and had a great time. Very close to the Paul Kruger Gate and overlooking the Sabie river. Having a braai in the evening in front of your tent is amazing!
Review 70:Nothing... Everything was excellent
Review 71:The staff members and the management made you feel so special, The best service I have ever seen... Would go back anytime
Review 72:Address given by bookingcom not compete
Review 73:The cottage we new and very nice location near river please update a complete address the Web the address given in booking.com is not enough please update is more perfectly chef was very cooperative as we wanted veg food and he helped us a lot
Review 74:The breakfast which came with the early morning drive was really poor. All sandwiches had the same topping and packed nuts or crackers are not what people should serve. Good: there were some eggs
Review 75:Absolute wonderful, friendly, helpful peopel
Review 76:The game drive with Willem was possibly the worst I had ever been on. Unprofessional, arrogant and amateurish. The breakfast pack consisted of stale sandwiches and muffins and served on a table full of birds droppings. Not recommended at all.
Review 77:Watching the hippos in the river
Review 78:This place is amazing! Very friendly staff, the view of the park is incredible and you can even sleep in a huge luxury and very comfortable tent! Huge deck, pool and fire at night. We even had a BBQ out once! :)
Review 79:The wifi signal was our only issue.
Review 80:The lodge has a great location on the banks of the Sabie river where we saw elephants, hippo and buffalo during our stay. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent game drives and panorama route tour with the guide based at the lodge. Food was very tasty.
Review 81:Friendly helpful employees. Rooms/Tents. View on river and Kruger. Garden. Diner/Breakfast and location with view. Location near to main gate to Kruger. Free carwash.
Review 82:WiFi was not available on all locations at the Hotel
Review 83:Excellent location between Hazyview and Kruger Gate right on the Sabie River. Practical facilities, friendly staff and a super ranger-led game drive with their dedicated safari truck. Food was of good quality and plentiful, served in an elevated restaurant with views into Kruger Park.
Review 84:The normal rooms that we have, are very small with no place to sit outside and also near the kitchen which make it very noisy in the mornings. The tented rooms are much more nice and private.
Review 85:The lovely view!
Review 86:My room back of the kitchen with broken shower. Deceiving location not in the bush, next to a main road in a busy community. We left and lost all our money.
Review 87:view
Review 88:The restaurant for diner is not the best, but okay. Breakfast was very nice.
Review 89:Nice friendly staff. Nice trip with Live in te Kruger. Good tent en bed, not so big, but okay en clean. Most beautiful view in our holiday. We saw a hippo and a elephant. Nice pool en other quests. Kitchen and toilets 2 metres from the tent, clean and okay. No mosquitos/insects in the evening, perfect! (March 2015).
Review 90:Bad food, no "free wifi"as advertised (wouldn't work in room nor veranda), sound of cars going on the road all night long, music from a nearby township all night long and in the morning again. Supposed to be a bush lodge and all we had was city sounds.
Review 91:Sleeping in a tent with a/c was fun
Review 92:Wi fi not so strong but hey.... We were on vacation.. Who cares?
Review 93:The staff is incredible and go out of their way to accomodate all our needs.the deck and fire at night was wonderful... The view incredible
Review 94:At the end of the trip we had to pay 260 Rand a person for entering the Kruger park just to get to Sukuza airport - this became only clear on the departure day and was not mentioned before. We almost missed the plane (really got there in the last second) because of having to buy all these tickets individually.
Review 95:Very nice owners Darren and Candice & great staff, property very well kept, really liked the home made food, great view from terrace on Sabie River, guided tour to Kruger Park was directly offered by lodge.
Review 96:A stand for luggage would be good. Something to put your clothes on in the bathroom would help. Net curtain on the window. Our room was next to the path to the bar and we couldn't open the curtains.
Review 97:The staff were efficient & friendly. The food was excellent.
Review 98:Our shower room could have done with a little bit of storage to put away toilet bags etc.
Review 99:Our 2nd visit back here. Lovely helpful staff especially a young man called Welcome! Good choice of breakfast. Dinner again was plentiful for us. The view was beautiful and we saw hippo's in the Sabie river at dusk. Nice swimming pool.
Review 100:It's a big far out from Hazyview about 20 km. so I find the location to be misleading. I wouldn't have chosen it if I new it was not Hazyview central
Review 101:Staff was pleasant and welcoming
Review 102:The team were excellent, the rooms clean and bed comfortable. The Lodge has good security and is in a fairly central position making it easy to spend a day in the Kruger Park or visit Blyde River Canyon. Good value for money, we will stay here again.
Review 103:i ask for eggs and asked the waiter to make sure that they do not contaminate it with bacon , but when i received it , i found bacon with the eggs , i would never eat there again
Review 104:Our bathrom was outside of the tent in a seperate building
Review 105:I highly recomend the tents there are awesome, the food is great, we saw a hippo in the river and monkeys in the trees
Review 106:Traffic noise due to the nearness of the road. Also, although the owners were there we saw no sign of them. I thought there laundry costs were also a bit high.
Review 107:The camp itself and its amenities are very pleasant.
Review 108:We took the luxury tent with rubber view. Compared to the other tents, which were equally nice but a little smaller and with bathrooms outside the tent (not shared), the price is definitely too high. Apart of that we had a nice stay there close to the river.
Review 109:Didn't like the bathroom being apart from my tent. At night it's a mission to go to the bathroom. The shower room is extremely small.
Review 110:Loved the view from my bed on the river. The deck with the pool was fantastic.
Review 111:Rooms are really small so if you feel like chilling in your room for a bit, it feels really small.
Review 112:The staff and facility are fantastic. Everyone was super friendly and went out of their way to assist you in any way.
Review 113:Location - not far from gates but not near at the same time, though Kruger'a fence is lodge'a fence. No entertainment outside lodge. restaurant: cuisine is rather primitive. Safari service: our driver was like half-blind, didn't show us any animals but 2 cameleos (we saw a lot but we showed them to the driver). He forgot that we had a half day tour and brought us back 2 hours later then we expected (if you have a flight in the afternoon it matters).
Review 114:Located just on the river bank, though river is behind the fence as it belongs to Kruger. friendly staff.
Review 115:We would like a public area or lounge to spend the day if it is raining. The bar is not very customer friendly as there is not really any place to sit and watch television or read a book. That would help that people rather spend the day there and not have to drive out and spend there money somewhere else.
Review 116:Staff was fantastic
Review 117:there was nothing to dislike about Sabie River Bush Lodge and I would stay there again.
Review 118:Well located for accessing Kruger National Park. Good accommodation, with a decked area with views over the river into the park. Dining room overlooks the river and park, we saw white rhino one evening. Good choice of food and wine. Breakfasts excellent Amazingly our car was washed every day for us.
Review 119:That I could not stay longer!
Review 120:A beautiful place, friendly and competent staff from the moment you arrive until departure. The food was 5 star quality, view beautiful.
Review 121:We missed African food. Every breakfast and dinner were delicious but there were no original African food on the menu...
Review 122:Sabie River Bush Lodge was a great Spot for a Trip to Kruger as well as to other Sights (Panorama Route...). Our room unfortunately had no river view as the river and the porch close to it with a swimming pool was perfect to relax for a couple of hours or even the whole day. But what we really have to mention is the perfect service of the extraordinary friendly staff taking care for us.
Review 123:The accommodation was advertised as luxury tents, there was nothing luxurious about it. Towels were minimum and small, no glasses or water in the room, no mosquito repellent in the rooms. The food was terrible, there was a day it was so salty and burnt you could not eat it, obviously there was no trained chef. We booked a safari drive, our driver did not listen to our instruction, when to stop for pictures etc. was impatient and was intoxicated. When my friends arrived late in the evening to the lodge, the guy manning the gate was drunk and becoming a nuisance to them, he was confused about their keys to the room. I was given a very small rebate for our safari which was a great disappointment . Never again
Review 124:Location to the Kruger gate was good.
Review 125:No en-suite bathroom, but not a huge problem, just worth knowing ahead of time
Review 126:View of the river Unbelievably welcoming and friendly staff, everyone, without exception. Quite an experience
Review 127:Bathroom facilities very basic and not sure I really enjoy the communal lavatories. Would prefer en suite.
Review 128:Lovely tents and fantastic location on the river. Watched a young bull elephant taking his morning drink whilst we were on the pool deck
Review 129:Diner is TERRIBLE. A disgrace. Baddest meal (buffet) we had in ZA. It was so bad that we had to laugh instead of being disappointed. Service: no service, not interested in the well being of the guests. Only interested in very cheap food against big prices. Most expensive drinks we had in ZA. Wine: vinegar :( No fridge in room.
Review 130:Location is superb. Near the river between Hazyview en Kruger. Nice terrace to relax and view over the river They cleaned the car
