Reviews for El Rancho Motel
Review 1:Spring beds, and bathroom was in need of updating but otherwise we were pleased with the room.
Review 2:The hotel was a good value, it was clean and inviting. It wasn't outstanding but was a nice place to stop and rest.
Review 3:Booking.com didn't make our hotel reservation though...even after aconfirmation, but the staff made every effort to make us happy and getus in even though it was a holiday weekend. We'll never usebooking.com again however
Review 4:The motel and staff were great ...especially friendly and helpful staff.Quaint rooms. Booking.com didn't make our hotel reservationthough...even after a confirmation, but the staff made every effort tomake us happy and get us in even though it was a holiday weekend. We'll never use booking.com again however
Review 5:Heater which is a wall air conditioner/heater sounded as though a piece of metal was stuck in the fan. Making very loud scraping noise. Walls had holes that needed to be repaired and painted. Location overlooks enormous surveillance towers. These huge microwave towers are ominous and overbearing
Review 6:location is good. Townspeople not friendly.
Review 7:When I pulled the sheets back, they were dirty, as in USED. like the maid needs glasses because I could CLEARLY SEE that. Heater very noisy but has a thermostat to solve that.
Review 8:Overall, I like the motel. Small rooms, made me think this was what our parents used to stay in. Parking outside your door. Satellite tv and wifi. Can walk to Main Street restaurants. It is an off Main Street motel so you don't get the sound of the big trucks. Coffeemaker, microwave, refrigerator in the room.
Review 9:Very friendly staff; room was clean, cozy and comfortable - and had a small kitchen which was great. One block from a great bakery, and walking distance to the local pub :) If you are a fan of small, old school motels with local flavor - this place is great. We will be back.
Review 10:Outside lights shine in through the window blinds. Addition of window shades or heavy curtains to block this light would be a great addition.
Review 11:Motel is about a block away from the main street so you do not get all the traffic noise. Our room had a small kitchen with a small stove, full size refrigerator, microwave and sink. Management was very friendly and helpful. We had some problems with the TV and it was fixed by the the time we got back from dinner.
Review 12:outside appearance of motel is run down.
Review 13:Outside of hotel gives a bad impression. Disappointing to drive up to. Clean inside though, but won't stay here again.
Review 14:both the tv and the frig in my room made loud humming noises. I was 2nd from the end opposite of the office-don't recall the number. I should've said something-too tired!
Review 15:Bed and sheets were great, that helps me get a great night's sleep!
Review 16:The owners had only just taken over and it could do with a spruce up . If it gets it it will be really good
Review 17:Bishop is a really nice town . The motel is in a good location.
Review 18:Central location near downtown. Room was decorated nicely, clean, quiet and had easy access from parking space. Manager was friendly and provided excellent sevice.
Review 19:not very clean. Bath tub bathroom not very clean and floor and furniture very dusty. Needs a good cleaning and would be great
Review 20:Redecorated room in older motel
Review 21:The room and bathroom were a little on the small side but quite adequate for one night. Can't complain, for the price.
Review 22:Great value for money. Clean and comfortable. All we needed for a one-night stay. The manager was very friendly and helpful and recommended some great places to eat nearby.
Review 23:air conditioner sounded like a jet engine. adjacent room noise. bad, ugly neighborhood. basically a poor place for too much money.
Review 24:central location - town center
Review 25:Just a bit worried about the parking. Seems a little haphazard.
Review 26:Room reminded me of a guest bedroom-very nice-bed very comfortable. Quiet at night/good location.
Review 27:Air conditioning was noisy but being investigated by owners, ice machine right outside window that was noisy
Review 28:lovely hosts, great recommendation for dinner
Review 29:Extremely great value for the price. Had a Kitchenette. All the homey touches were there. Extremely Clean. Super friendly front desk staff. Helped us find the place since my phone navigator wasn't working. Quieter location off of the main drag.
Review 30:price is a little high but so are others in the area and usually booked up
Review 31:has frig and micro, great ice machine, comfortable beds, easy check in/out, friendly onsite manager
Review 32:- The wifi wasn't really stable. - Bishop was a good spot for us to stop on the road between Death Valley and Yosemite, but nothing really exciting about the city.
Review 33:This is a good and down-to-earth motel, we had everything we needed. And the owner was a very nice man.
Review 34:The bed was a bit small for two persons.
Review 35:The motel is well located on a quiet lane, close to the main street and all restaurants/bakery/facilities. The room was comfortable and nicely furnished (the bathroom was modern). The staff was very nice: they cared about our comfort during our stay.
Review 36:Needed better cleaning, when ceiling fan was on, it showed many dustballs around the fan and on the ceiling. The "sitting chair" was comfortable, but was not at all the right height for using the table as a desk, or for eating. Need a simple desk/table chair.
Review 37:Very hot day, air conditioning not on took over 6 hours to cool the living room, bedrooms still warm. No offer of reduction in rate after management informed.
Review 38:Staff was friendly.
Review 39:Nothing. Good. For price.
Review 40:Very clean with hard wood floors. Small but efficient. Looks better on inside than outside. An older motel a block off the highway that has refurbished rooms. Good location, can walk to restaurants.
Review 41:Noisy air conditioner, impossible to sleep with it on. Parking right outside rooms so was quite noisy at various times and was woken up. Area around motel looked a bit run down.
Review 42:Friendly staff. Free parking. Easy to find.
Review 43:The temperature of the room was hotter than outer, even though at the night time, I wanted to turn on the air-conditioner, but the air-conditioner was so noisy THAT I COULD NOT SLEEP WELL.
Review 44:Location and bed were good.
Review 45:Torn curtains in bathroom, rubbish piled up outside the room window, shower drain partially blocked, bare plasterwork in bathroom, AC sounded like spinner with nuts and bolts, TV not working, chest of drawers about to fall apart and hanging clothes space above chest of drawers where coffee machine was.
Review 46:Nothing
Review 47:This was a very good place to stay as it was central in Bishop and the very new owner/manager was able to recommend where to eat. The room was very clean.
Review 48:The floor of the room was so filthy that once I walked on them with damp feet, I had to wash my feet off with a wet washcloth and the cloth was black with dirt.
Review 49:Very pretty new furnishings inside the room.
Review 50:The deluxe king room was newly renovated, however the bathroom needed to be renovated also. Tub was stained, tile needed to be changed, bathroom needed a good renovation.
Review 51:Sleeping area was very nice and comfortable. New wood floors, bedding, furniture, very nice.
Review 52:Could be cleaner. The frig needs cleaning. Bathroom faucet I would not touch the first day, it was better on the second day. Nor did I care for the hair in the sink.
Review 53:Coffee pot was broken, but left in place, and no offer was made to try and replace it.
Review 54:It was a good, cheap place to stay to break our journey and what you see is what you get.
Review 55:Its not exactly luxurious, but its cheap so we were very happy.
Review 56:Loved the atmosphere. We're 4 brits having a road trip across the states and Bishop is exactly what we wanted it to be. El Rancho is a small motel with friendly staff and an unnecessarily large neon sign. Plus you can see an American flag waving in the foreground over the roof of the motel against a backdrop of vast American countryside.
Review 57:toilet leaked and every five minutes in came on to fill the tank & it was loud !!! Spartan facilities ... for another $20-30 you'd get far better room with breakfast. Office didn't open early.
Review 58:Arrived late and called ahead, so the key and receipt was waiting in the Drop Box. Good thing, because the office is CLOSED from 10pm ~ mid morning.
Review 59:People slamming ice chest lid (chest was right outside my window). Summer pricing a bit high for what you get
Review 60:Accommodating staff (we did not get in until after midnight; keys were left for us in the motel drop box). Reasonably quiet A/C. Comfortable bed
Review 61:There were marked walls in need of paint, floor connecting tille in bathroom and wood in bedroom was missing and overall the room needed a fresh facelift, it looked old and used.
Review 62:I really liked the staff and the cleanliness of the room!
Review 63:Small room; view. One room we saw looked out over huge concrete parking lot. 2nd room had a very high long window with only two small windows on each end that you could slide open for air and to see through. View here was a slightly better parking lot view.
Review 64:Efforts been made to make an attractive room. Older one story vintage motel fixed up nice with a very comfortable bed. Priced somewhat reasonable for Bishop.
Review 65:I felt the accommodations were overpriced for what I received. $120 should warrant a more updated, nicer room. I was told that the bed was a Tempurpedic; it was not at all comfortable & I seriously doubt it was one.
Review 66:The assistant manager was very kind & helpful. The room was clean. My dog was welcome & treated kindly.
Review 67:No curtains, but wooden shutters, which had half a slat broken off and missing. This could allow outsiders to look in through the window. Took magazines and placed them between window and shutters for privacy. The wooden floor was dirty!!! Minutes after a shower and walking around in the room, the soles of our feet were black! :-( The bed sagged, but was clean.
Review 68:The help at the office was nice, friendly. The decor of the room was nice, though bathroom was old style.
Review 69:The room was nothing like the room depicted online. I was expecting a wood floor and newer furniture. The furniture looked like something purchased in a thrift store? The carpet was disgusting. I would not walk barefoot. There were no toiletries left for our second day stay, not even toilet paper.
Review 70:Booked this on the road and by the time we reached the motel was very tired. We arrived and was told there were no rooms available. She didnt want to even see our confirmation. She said she only had a bungalow for $199. Woman that was at front desk smelled of heavy smoke and was wearing dirty clothes.
Review 71:Grout and caulking in bathtub needs repair. Bathroom ceiling was moldy.Thursday night cost was $99...a little pricy for the room.
Review 72:The room was very clean except for the bathtub. It needed a littlecleanser and scrubbing. The location was off the main road so it wasvery quiet except for the door slamming family in the next room.
Review 73:heater A/C very loud impossible to sleep with it on A/C did not cool room on first day Bishop was a 100+. 2nd day was better as I left it on all day dont know if they fixed it while I was out. blinds dont keep out lights in courtyard.
Review 74:location/ price/ fairly new renovation of rooms good quility bedding/ wood floors/clean/ fridge/ microwave small but good shower
Review 75:Nice room, just not a thorough cleaning..floor was dusty and some hair left in bathtub drain. Parking was very tight.
Review 76:The room was decorated nicely. The bed had a wonderful comforter.
Review 77:The bed was a bit small for two people.
Review 78:Staff was lovely and very helpful. Spotless clean. Wonderful organic bath cosmetics ! Close to town, food store and two lovely mexican restaurants ! Great location - on the way to Death Valley.
Review 79:This is just a remark but if you wanted to do any cooking, there was a wondefully big kitchen , there was not hardly any pans or plates. I presume that the americans don't cook.?
Review 80:We stayed in the bungalow for families as we were travelling with our 2 large teenagers, but I imagine the normal rooms are similar. An enormous amount of love and effort has gone into renovating this 1940s motel. It keeps all of its charm, the furniture and kitchen have been chosen with a retro feel. The towels are folded into little fans when you arrive, all very welcoming. Ultra helpful man on reception. Pity the bathroom is so small.
Review 81:The fellow at the reception was very brusque - dirty clothes, dirty hands, smelled of cigarettes - no greeting, no social niceties whatsoever. Yuck!
Review 82:Despite the somewhat sketchy neighbourhood and the run-down appearance, the room was at least very clean. Though very old and dated, it had a certain retro charm.
Review 83:LOCATION!!!!! Right across the street from a Tweaker type trailer park,Did not feel secure walking our service dog unarmed ( must be off property) Smoking area RIGHT next to 300 gal. propane tank! Half the stuff in the room did not work ,overhead fan,clock/radio table lamp, dust bunnys on roof ,rug did not look like it had been vacumed prior to check in 1 bolt holding tolilet seat on no security lock on bathroom window!
Review 84:Outward appearance of room was nice-Gave the feeling of a Quant 60,s motel room! comfortable bed, lots of pillows coffee pot wit hot coco good tv lots of channels.
Review 85:Booking.com prices are far above what you can get directly. This is aripp-off. Be careful!
Review 86:Cozy room with windows on two sides. This is not a cave room.Comfortable lounge chair. Friendly staff.
Review 87:Unfortunately, the bed was even smaller than I thought it would be, and we were very uncomfortable. It really was more a bed for one person, not two.
Review 88:I liked most everything. Check in was easy and the clerk was friendly and efficient. The room was new, freshened up, and very clean. It was small but just what we expected.
Review 89:Poor maintenance in room. Broken drawer handle, no sink drain plug, object jammed in sink drain (removed it), poor water pressure
Review 90:Close to amenities and Owens river, friendly office staff.
Review 91:The laminate floors gave the room a clean feeling but a carpet addition under the bed that extended about 3 feet would be warmer. It could easily removed for cleaning. Remove the tacky for flowers. Invest in good quality silk flowers or even fresh.
Review 92:We were impressed with how nice the interior of our room was remodeled keeping the original feeling of its age especially in the bathroom.
Review 93:We didn't have a plug in our sink but I'm sure that if we had mentioned it they would have sorted the problem.
Review 94:We had the friendliest and most helpful welcome of anywhere we have stayed. The rooms are small but decorated well. Lovely bed linen and a quilt! Location is quiet being set back but it is easy and quick to walk into town.
Review 95:Everything was very clean. Nice updates to an older one story motel - wood/laminate floors, nice bedding. It had everything I needed and the staff was very pleasant and accomdating.
Review 96:The remodeling of this old motel was tastefully done making the room feel like home. I was delighted to find a down comforter on the bed, and laminate floors which were spotlessly clean. The staff made accommodations for me which enabled me to change my planned arrival date. Great place, and I will definitely stay here again.
Review 97:It's a block off the main strip when we pulled up we thought "wow!" But the lady at the front desk was extremely nice so we decided to at least look at the rooms! They were the cutest rooms we have ever been in. Thanks El Rancho!!
Review 98:There was some long red hair in the shower. At over $100.00 per night we consider this motel a bit pricey. It is next to a trailor park, but still safe and close to the main street.
Review 99:We were on our way through so it was ok for one night. The owners were very friendly. There's free parking and free wifi that works well. The aircon unit is a bit loud but works fine. There were no carpets in the room which we liked.
Review 100:Pet fee added after booking was confirmed at the advertised price, even though we had specified we had a dog. Two pillows didn't have cases. Miserable bed Water damaged wallboard in bathroom just painted over Cigarette smoke in lobby. Agent apologized, indicating he wasn't supposed to smoke there. Some light bulbs didn't work, and at least one wall socket didn't work.
Review 101:Friendly staff Nice newer flooring Bedding was clean and nicely made up Price matched other lower priced motels in town
Review 102:Not really attractive neighbourhood. Could use some renovation and technical upgrading. Value for the money is OK -- you essentially pay for Bishop as the convenient O/N location between Death Valley and Yosemite.
Review 103:Very friendly, warm and personal reception. Family-style motel, clean and comfortable. Arrived late, and Bishop turned out to be quite a nice little town on the next morning.
Review 104:Mold on paint above shower. Rusty curtain rod in bath, old outdated toilet
Review 105:Quiet, close to good bakery, restaurants, Main Street without the noise. Could walk to most of downtown easily.
Review 106:- Room was so hot, for no explainable reason (the outside was much nicer in daytime, and really cold in nighttime, but the room always steaming hot!). Had to sleep with the air condition on, but it was so loud it was hard to ignore, and also started dripping after a few hours.- Fridge was very noisy, had to disconnect it from the electricity to stop the noise. - The windows watch either the motel parking lot or the neighbor trailer park - both not very reassuring and without any bars, so had to close them when we left the room and close the curtains at night (which didn't help with the heat). - The shower is odd. The stream is uncomfortable and hard to play with, the temp is either too cold or too hot. Nowhere to put your shower stuff but on the floor. The neighborhood is not nice to walk around late at night (trailer-park\garage area). - Neighbors' dog, although cute, was very noisy when they left for dinner and left him alone in the room. The rooms' walls are very thin and it felt like it was crying right next to us.
Review 107:The room was clean enough and the staff was nice. Nice hearing about apet-friendly hotel (didn't use it though - our own dog stayed athome). Price is fair. Location is ok for our needs (on the way fromYosemite to death valley / Vegas), and in walking distance fromBishop's main street (nice for dinner\breakfast).
Review 108:Looks a little run down from the outside but doesn't reflect the inside..Our room was nice
Review 109:The bed was heavenly! Slept better then at home..Also very quiet
Review 110:A continental breakfast would have been nice.
Review 111:For an older property in a not-too-appealing location, this was a very good and inexpensive find. The rooms had been nicely remodeled and were very clean. The operators were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay there again.
Review 112:For a vintage property the rate was a little high but it is the end of fishing season and all motel rates were jacked up in town.
Review 113:Friendly Staff. Quiet location Spotlessly clean Flat screen TV WiFi Refrigerator and microwave Comfortable bed and easy chair
Review 114:The bathroom/shower was really small. The idea of a small patio/central sitting area in the parking lot was nice, but could look so much better with a bit of maintenance.
Review 115:The workers were so friendly and helpful. The room was spacious, with a seating area, an eating area, and a clean laminate floor. The air worked well, the tv was modern, and the beds were comfortable. The full kitchen with utensils and other kitchen gadgets were really convenient.
Review 116:Wifi a little difficult to get logged onto bit once we sorted it worked well. Air con also a little noisy.
Review 117:We stopped here to break up our journey from Vegas to Yosemite. We weren't expecting much but had a good stay and loved Bishop. Great little town. We had the best steak ever at the restaurant in the bowling alley after it was recommended to us. I know it sounds wierd but you have to try. Also had a great breaky at Jacks Cafe. Rooms are small but clean and comfortable. Perfect for a stop off.
Review 118:The place looked a bit rough from the outside. When we opened the room we loved it. It was clean and comfortable. There was a nice sitting area on the property. Check out Rustys salon, they allied dogs in the bar. We had a blast!
Review 119:Noisy neighbours woke us up at 5, apparently going fishing. They were staying in the room next to us and were cooking breakfast. Apperently the walls can't cope that :)
Review 120:Clean room, good location on your way to Yosemite.
Review 121:The original neon sign and outside of this '40s motor court- exactly how I pictured them based on old movies and tv shows. Great combination with the new inside - comfortable beds, pretty decor, fluffy towels in abundance. Fridge with freezer compartment for our ice-packs. Car parked right outside our room. Lots of eating options at walking distance.
Review 122:Nothing.
Review 123:When we made a reservation we saw an old motel picture and wondered if we would be happy staying there. We were pleasantly surprised at the room. We liked the "no-frills" approach...everything we ever needed for a good nights sleep was there. Also the heads-up on dinner at the bowling alley....excellent!!!!
Review 124:I thought pricey. Out of all the rooms we stayed in over 3 weeks, this was among the top 3 rooms. Didn't warrant that in my opinion.
Review 125:Room décor was outstanding. Very comfortable. Staff superb, needed help with our TV.
Review 126:Superfriendly owner! Unlike most other motelrooms we stayed in on our road trip this one was fresh and clean - Bright colours, nice furniture, clean smell. And very price worthy.
Review 127:We left something sweet in a bag on the dresser and woke to a gazillion ants all over. Kinda creepy to have ants in a motel room. Had to throw away our just purchased sweets.
Review 128:Our room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The shower was small but water pressure was great. I would stay here again.
Review 129:Air Con was very loud & didn't cool the room very much.
Review 130:This was just a late night stop over betwee Yosemite & Las Vegas. It was good value for what it was. Not somewhere you would want to spend days but a night on the road was great. Staff - Elizabeth - was great and helped sort out a mixed up booking.
Review 131:Warm room waiting for us, hot water, clean.
Review 132:Super spacious and newly renovated. Very clean and stocked with a full kitchen a great bathroom. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Review 133:We have stayed with this hotel before. The staff is always amazing!
