Reviews for Paradise @ Koh Yao
Review 1:A few members of bar staff needed a nudge from time to time when it came to the speed of drinks orders being done. For us, the trips on offer were too expensive which is a shame.
Review 2:The location is beautiful and the rooms are lovely. The spa is a nice treat. This is definitely a place to come for a little R&R with a good book.
Review 3:Personnel could practice English more
Review 4:Great place to relax and just enjoy life. Very beautiful rooms and characterful decor. Good service, nice food and area.
Review 5:Everyone booking this hotel should consider a number of things: 1. The hotel is located in a very secluded location away from the island village. 2. The only way to get to the village is by taxi (tuk-tuk) via a very bumpy, dusty and steep road, which takes about 30 minutes. 3. Hotel has only 2 restaurants: Seafood Terrace and Italian. The Italian is overpriced with average price for main course 500-900 Baht. The quality of food is below avergage for this price. 4. If you are planning to go out for dinner, it is inconvenient. You will need to take a long dusty taxi ride back to the village. 5. The beach is nice, but the water is dusty due to clay and rocks at the bottom of the bay. 6. During the low tide you will not be able to swim. The water goes out approximately 800 meteres away from the beach, exposing the clay and rocks. 7. Hotel offers transportation to and from airport, but charges 2,700 Baht per person (AUD 100), which is unjustified for Thailand especially if you have family of 5. 8. There are limited activities: kayaks, bikes, trekking and a few tours. Overall, the hotel is very clean, rooms are authentic, Eco friendly and modern. The area is surrounded by a beautiful garden. The staff is very friendly, but slow.
Review 6:The service for lunch and dinner is so slow, at least 45 min wait. The road to the resort from the pier is very rough so it's better that you take the long tail boat. The resort didn't inform us of this option when we called. The resort is far from everything else.
Review 7:The beach and the overall feel of the resort. The beach bar in the evening has live music at times, very relaxing. The outdoor area with the swing is very nice.
Review 8:Before going there you should be aware, that this resort is quite a remote spot! Easiest to get there by boat. Not easy to get there by bike or car and especially not at night! If this is what you want, then I'd say that it's one of the most fantastic places to be. Chill, relax, probably at least 1 palm tree on the beach per guest, awesome food and nice people. Also worth mentioning, the apartments/bungalows are really made with love and are super comfy.
Review 9:Bad experience in this hotel, we paid for a room with jacuzzi, which was not working as they don't have enough hot water to fill it, takes ages to fill and in the end the jets are not working... Staff not receptive at all to our complains about this and aggressive when told there was a problem. The resort is overall quite old and in bad shape, most sun beds broken, mould in the pool and in the bathroom, rooms need to be re painted etc.. Restaurant very expensive and transport as well, as they are lost in the far end of the island they take advantage of this to force you to pay silly prices. Also the picture of the infinity pool on booking.com is actually the pool of a private villa, the general hotel pool is far less nice and does not have this beautiful view.
Review 10:Not much, the view from the beach when the tide is high is beautiful, but apart from that the hotel was rather a huge disappointment
Review 11:Lack of aquatic activities, just kayaking was available. SUP (Stand Up Paddling) would be a great idea as it is a small bay. Our emails were never answered (through booking.com) hence, we didn't arrive directly to the hotel and arrived at the local pier in the other side of the island.
Review 12:Secluded. Romantic. Private Beach. Great villas. Clean.
Review 13:The airport shuttle service they provide is actually not a private service. They have scheduled times and we would have had to wait 2 hours. Given that their service is too expensive. We reached the resort faster with public ferry (which is actually a speedboat with 4 x 250HP Honda engines) and taxi for a fraction of the cost.
Review 14:This is the place to go if you want see how Thailand looked years ago before they cut most of the trees. The resort itself is a botanic garden where the jungle meets the sea. The fact that it is not conveniently accessible adds to the feeling of seclusion.
Review 15:Trapped in golden cage. Expensive to go to town and food/bev on property is $$$$. Make sure to pack in your own alcohol
Review 16:Amazing private beach. Room with jacuzzi was awesome
Review 17:Receptionist was a little moody and our room was very far you better don't forget anything on the room .The village is far and no really worth it expensive transport to so you better off staying in hotel for meals and massages .
Review 18:The scenary is amazing , beaches nearby to explore with a kayak. Yoga in The morning with an amazing teacher great spa and massages .great restaurant and boutique hotel feeling .
Review 19:Too fat from the village so go prepared, food not at thai prices. Expensive to get to the island and no sheets just doonas on the beds!! Saying this of course the rooms are air conditioned and the resort is amazing and exclusive.
Review 20:The location is beautiful , the beach has hammocks and bean bags for the ultimate relaxation. A safe beach also and a lovely pool. The food is delicious with choices of menu or buffet. The rooms are amazing and the staff wonderful .
Review 21:The hotel is the best place to stay for nature lovers who are seeking for an adventure and a silent place to relax. The staff is unbelievable nice, especially the buggy driver who is always smiling. The room is really thoughtful equipped with a more than comfortable bed.
Review 22:The food was really good but it started to slightly differ day to day, maybe different chefs with different levels of standards.
Review 23:The atmosphere was so relaxing and welcoming, loved the beach, the sea and also the seculded location and privacy of our villa and spa pool which was up within the hillside. The manager was also amazing, coming and chatting with us a few times a day asking if everything was OK and staff are very friendly but they struggle with English a lot of time which makes them get small things wrong like drinks and food requests or asking basic questions. The spa and spa staff were great, we had about 3 treatments each which were really good. They really made us feel loved and welcomed, such kind people. I asked my girlfriend to marry me at paradise, the staff were very accomdating and helped me setting up the evening in such short time which was amazing. They really made the night special for the both of us and it's something we will remember for the rest of our lives. They treated us with a free a bottle of champagne not just any kind but the special kind! Very nice little set up on the beach just for two. Kayak trip was amazing it's a must !!
Review 24:The Resort is 20 minutes taxi ride along a rough road from the township of Koh Yao. So there is little chance to eat at other restaurants, however the food is excellent at Paradise and there is a daily shuttle into town. Given the isolation you are forced to pay the resort day trip prices, however the tours are intimate and flexible
Review 25:Accommodation was superb, although i would recommend paying extra for the spa suite as they seem to be the villas with the better outlook. Managers happy hour on a Monday night was a treat, most guests venture out on this night and it was a chance to meet everyone on the island. Plenty of day trips on offer from James Bond Island, elephant riding to Krabi etc or you can simply lay on the very nice private beach in front of the resort. In house Yoga instructor was lovely especially given the beach front location of the Yoga pavilion.
Review 26:beautiful environment. friendly, happy staff who went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. delicious food. great cocktails in the sundowner bar. beautiful room, very clean and comfortable. great trips. lovely clean pool. we had a great stay!
Review 27:They told many plans never did. You cant go anywhere because is alone in the jungle. Trying to charge extra each thing you try to do. Activities, food, massage. We couldnt do free activities because they change for not possible.
Review 28:Never never. They tried to charge drinks of minibar we didnt tried. Activities are trying to sell diferent because they earn more, 4 changes for same and have no english speakers drivers. They do as they want not as you who pays private boat want.
Review 29:Very weak wifi. Many mozzies and flies. Quite difficult to get to the resort from Phuket. Blackout for 2 hrs on our first night due to thunderstorm.
Review 30:Peace and quiet, perfect place to just rest and relax. Very comfortable room and nice shower. Food at the restaurant was not bad, pretty goo value. Nice pool and beach area. Most staff are friendly.
Review 31:It's a fair way from Manon Pier and a 45-minute ride over dirt tracks, which is thrilling, but long!
Review 32:The seclusion of the surroundings and the picturesque scenery. Lovely chalets, great range at breakfast and good quality of food.
Review 33:Open Windows in batroom, there is no net and therefore you have several animals in the apartment (mosquito, geckos...)
Review 34:Atmosphäre, location, breakfast.
Review 35:Honestly the whole time we didn't feel like we were guests, we felt treated like intruders who were only tolerated so the hotel could squeeze more money out of us. We were relieved when it was finally time to leave. While most people were very nice, a members of the staff members were just weirdly, bizarrely rude (the rudest I've seen at a hotel -- they were just plain mean). The hotel is also very isolated, so you need to buy everything from them, and they nickel and baht you every which way. They charge you $90/person one-way to get to the hotel, they mark up sunscreen (4 dollars in town, they charge 30 dollars, a can of soda (50 cents in town, they charge 3 dollars), no free water (2 dollars/bottle), etc. They organize "excursions" like kayaking, scuba, etc, for 200 USD+/day, a 4x mark up from the town.
Review 36:The view is incredible (only during high tide, kinda ugly otherwise), the rooms are amazing, and most of the staff are sweet nice, people. Mike, the restaurant manager, is AMAZING.
Review 37:prices for beverages and food are to high.
Review 38:the room had very nice design and was comfortable. the private beach is large and clean with sunbeds and beanbags. the sort has an excellent restaurant.
Review 39:Very clever marketing from the resort management. They employ mostly local staff and ask you to be patient with them. As such the service is not 4 star by any means. However price reflects a 4 star resort.
Review 40:Location, pool, restaurant
Review 41:The resort is the right size and well organized. The personnel is always willing to help and do a very good job. We had a very nice stay in a wonderful and peaceful environment. This is an excellent and genuine place outside the crowd.
Review 42:Personally I didn't like that there wasn't much to do but understand it's a relaxing place.
Review 43:The views and location of the place is beautiful.
Review 44:The price of accommodation was very reasonable considering the standard on offer. Food and drink was however expensive in Thai terms. If you're hoping to enjoy a nice bottle of wine at a reasonable price, forget it although this seems normal when you're on the islands. Happy hour did help though. Be aware that you can't swim at low tide.
Review 45:Beautiful rooms with lovely attention to detail. Extremely helpful and friendly staff. Superb location with stunning views. Many activities, but the excursions are on the expensive side. The daily free boat shuttle to a nearby island was a nice bonus as were the complimentary massage and yoga sessions.
Review 46:- The staffs are lack of professional service such as i got difference answer on the same question. It made me a bit confuse. -The transfer from airport to hotel is very inconvenient and expensive. From Phuket airport to the pier takes time around 30 mins and then catch share speed boat to hotel takes time around 50 mins. If you wish to come here. I would recommend you to ask hotel about boat schedule before you book the flight via email to avoid miscommunication.
Review 47:The location and the view.
Review 48:The resort is amazing but it is very very very isolated from the rest of the beautiful island. If you go there by car, you will have to travel for 40 min+ on a awful dirt road, and it is very expensive. The hotel can arrange a boat transfer, bit this also is very pricey. This is why we stayed at the resort for most of our stay. If they would lower their prices for boat transfers, this resort would have it all. There was a host at the reception who was very rude and arrogant. He wasn't helpfull at all, and we were not the only ones who experienced his unconfort.
Review 49:We loved the view, the beach, the rooms, the food and most of the staff. There were many facilities and activities. And the overall feel was paradise-like.
Review 50:Very isolated so you depend on the hotel for everything.
Review 51:Gorgeous bay, beautiful sunsets, lovely rooms, good food. Perfect place to relax far away from everything.
Review 52:Airport shuttle was very expensive with poor facilities (3 times the price of six senses) Our room was tired and needs to be updated. The air con in the room was poor. Only one choice of restaurant. Laundry service was very expensive and delivery was very late (I had to chase them up on the last night) Free excursion was cancelled (20 minutes before it was due) Untidy beach.
Review 53:Staff were very friendly Nice pool Free wine for our honeymoon
Review 54:Massages were very expensive Beach was a little dirty sometimes Speedboat back to Phuket was very very uncomfortable
Review 55:Such good value Friendly staff Amazing view/beach Very comfortable Great food
Review 56:The only thing that spoilt the resort was the loud dance music coming from the beach bar. Really spoilt the whole atmosphere and ambience of the place.
Review 57:Almost everything
Review 58:very expensive hotel shuttle to the airport, expensive restaurant and the lack of alternatives in the area
Review 59:beautiful location, very nicely designed resort, comfortable apartments, paradise garden, delicious food, a friendly staff
Review 60:Staff not very nice!!
Review 61:Beautiful and relaxing among nature The stuff so kind helpful and sweet The room spacious full of light and very clean Good food Real treat!
Review 62:hard to get off the resort for a day without paying too much money
Review 63:Rooms were comfi
Review 64:The beach
Review 65:Mostly everything
Review 66:a lot of mosquito in the room. Travelling cost from mainland to the hotel is very expensive.
Review 67:Private beach, staff are nice.
Review 68:Jacuzzi, welcome drink, seaview balcony. A lovely frog was looking at me when we are in the Jacuzzi.
Review 69:Nothing
Review 70:Everything
Review 71:Location and rooms
Review 72:Not a lot included when you are on site you pay for everything and it is expensive.
Review 73:Location Activities Presentation
Review 74:The costumer treatment and treatment of the staff
Review 75:The scenery
Review 76:Jacuzzi didn't work properly. Transport to and from hotel is expensive.
Review 77:Staff speaks best English that we encountered anywhere in South East Asia! Wonderful "middle of nowhere" location, very quiet, private beach, pool, activities (free ones, reasonable price and some more pricey), good food, room had comfy bed and wonderful view, staff was super friendly and helpful. Free wifi. Free boat shuttle to a nearby island. Wonderful yoga classes twice a day and if you do many classes they give you discount. Make sure you bring cash and snacks as there is nothing but this hotel in 10km radius and transport is expensive.
Review 78:I didn't have long enough to enjoy it more!
Review 79:I had a wonderful break. Trips & massages were fantastic, but what made it extra special was the kindness of the staff. Lovely location and most peaceful.
Review 80:It is necessary to take into account how LONG it takes to get to the hotel. I was a solo traveller so the hotel had no option for me but to use the public transport which took nearly 3 hours from phuket airport (taxi, public boat and tuk tuk). Necessary to keep in mind if you have an early flight. The beach is not very nice. The view is breathtaking but I am sure the beach is made with artificial sand. Since it is a bay, the water is shallow and very warm (I travelled in the hot season) and once in the water the floor is mud and rock.
Review 81:Very nice staff, beautiful location in the middle of a jungle island, great facilities, great wifi connection, nice hotel and bars
Review 82:Totally isolated and very far from the pier. Very hard accessible. Especially you should avoid going through the road as it is simply dangerous. (choose the boat option) The transportation to and from the hotel is very expensive. Impossible to swim during low tide. Room service - really poor availability. The hotel and all the water activities were overpriced. And there is no alternatives to a food and massage as there is nothing around the hotel, not even a supermarket.
Review 83:The food was good and the staff in the restaurants were polite, but very poor English. If u want to relax from a busy life the hotel has the proper isolated location and fills in the purpose of the eco-friendly stay.
Review 84:The place was almost paradise. Beautiful beach and nature around the resort. Thai buffet was awesome and food as well as breakfast altogether excellent. A bit expensive if you compare to Phuket but totally worth it! Place is very isolated so... If you are looking a calm beautiful place to relax and enjoy Thailand this is the place to go!
Review 85:difficult to access and secluded (the price to pay to get quiet), so don't expect a supermarket nearby. Food was good (especially breakfast) but special buffet could improved. Excursions are pricy and the free one- which is awesome- not advertised by the staff. not possible to swim during low tide.
Review 86:The idea was to get a real break from busy life, the place was perfect for that. private beach, splendid view from the room, nice room, spa, really good value for money. Free excursion to a remote island.
Review 87:the staff is very lovely & friendly however we experienced a lot of miscommunication due to their lack of good English. So bring a lot of patience and just accept that if you decide to stay here
Review 88:very clean & unique set up but wouldnt recommend staying here longer than a week since the resort is very remote and you are kind of stuck here - there is a very bumpy road behind the resort, which you could take if you re comfortable riding a scooter on it
Review 89:The road trip to the resort was awful, a very rough experience. No ATM at the resort which cause 15% extra to get cash back from hotel. Overall Very expensive! If you don't have it with you be prepared to pay for it!
Review 90:The wifi throughout the resort was excellent, food drink & location also excellent
Review 91:Definitely need more fresh coconuts! They seem to run out very quickly. But other than that, nothing to complain about :)
Review 92:Every staff was attentive and super friendly. The lady at the breakfast egg station remembered our orders from day one. The bartender remembered our favourite drinks. All the servers came over to say hello and chat whenever they could. The guys at the activity centre are super knowledgeable and helpful. The room was impeccable and perfect for us. The outdoor/indoor shower was brilliant. The swing on the balcony was the perfect for the late afternoon reading the sun was setting. We can't comment on the steam room because we didn't use it but the spa was very relaxing and just what we needed. We love the fact that the treatment rooms were salas and scattered on the hill. Very tranquil and unique experience. We joined three tours during our stay and we highly recommend the Thalen Bay kayak trip and the eco bike tour. We definitely got our money's worth! Overall, we loved our stay at The Paradise and we look forward to going back!
Review 93:Not a really good & friendly service as in other places in Thailand, personnel not well trained, don't speak English. All extra costs are really expensive, like excursions, spa etc. One is very isolated on that beach. The nice hilltop pool they advertise with belongs to a private villa and is not accessible for everybody
Review 94:Very nice & spacious rooms with outside shower, very good beds
Review 95:Being Thailand, I did feel the hotel was a bit overpriced. The island is very polluted and water is pretty disgusting. On a serious note though, getting to the hotel is a pain if you use the road. The hotel could really provide some shuttle service from the pier to the hotel pier itself rather then having to 'fend for yourself at the dock of the Island. The day activities were outrageously priced. For example 7000 Baht 222USD for an hour massage where as in phuket, maybe 100 to 300 Baht.
Review 96:The hotel itself was very nice.
Review 97:It's in paradise but the prices are overinflated. They blatantly gauge you for taxis boat transportation massages etc. it was laughable. There were also a few odd situations that made me feel like i had strict rules for instances the bartender told me I couldn't smoke outside. Right after the concierge told us if we wanted to eat we would need to go back to our room and order from the room service menu because it was after 4 and before 7. And the restaurants were closed. To which I replied "may I see the room service menu?" To which she replied "there's one in ur room." I ended up spending more money in two days there than my five days in Bangkok at the Sofitel with all the bells and whistles. We had an amazing time simply because of the location. I'll suggest it to others but it will come with a warning.
Review 98:The location was the most beautiful place I've ever been.
Review 99:Stunning place! Loved the morning yoga overlooking the beautiful beach. The snorkelling trip was fantastic as well as kayaking around the little bays and islands nearby.
Review 100:The food often arrived cold, particularly room service which was verydisappointing.Sometimes staff sometimes forgot drinks. If food and drink was sorted out i would give this a 5 but alas, its a 4 star for this reason. Is to fix though...! Overpriced transfer over the water, often the road is unusable due to the weather so this is the ONLY method on or off the island. Perhaps this should be complimentary, certainly for arrival. Spa Steam room was not working which was disappointing.
Review 101:Fabulous room with hut tub on deck over looking the ocean. Couldn'tfault the room. Superb.Liked that housekeeping came round each evening and put mosquito net down and lit a candle to keep the mosquitos away.
Review 102:The location of the resort on the island is right up north along the dirt roads so you are a little trapped when it comes to buying and food or drinks and snacks other than from the resort (which is very overpriced). The only way to avoid this is to stock up before you come or make the trek to the 7-eleven in the south of the island.
Review 103:Great resort and friendly staff that speak good English. The rooms are lovely with excellent views of the limestone cliffs and the sea especially considering we got upgraded.
Review 104:The frequent electricity breakdown, the poor English speaking capabilities of the staff and the small quantity of duck pieces in my duck curry dish.
Review 105:The location and the taste of the food.
Review 106:Transport prices to get to this hotel were exorbitant and food was very ordinary in the evening. We stayed 2 days , which was enough
Review 107:Great location for those who want remoteness.Spectacular views of forest and cliffs.
Review 108:The yoga class next to the beach watching the sunset. Simply wonderful
Review 109:All activities very overpriced
Review 110:Lovely quiet location ad great cocktails
Review 111:Drinks a bit. Expensive
Review 112:Our stay was very nice well go back next year
Review 113:There is nothing I didn't like.
Review 114:I wanted to take my girlfriend somewhere special, The Paradise exceeded all my expectations.
Review 115:Excellent location and breath-taking views. Great opportunities to bike around the island and see the sights on your own
Review 116:Everything, perfect location, nice and quiet, great staff
Review 117:The location and the view, the room, spa treatments, yoga, bar and restaurant.
Review 118:Beach.
Review 119:Room.
Review 120:High tranport and food costs due to remote location
Review 121:Beautiful remote location Great room, beach and pool Tasty food
