Reviews for Valley River Inn

Review 1:Location was convenient to restaurants and shopping. Room was large and comfortable, and very quiet. We had the breakfast buffet and it was very good.

Review 2:We did not have a bad experience, I only don't like the coffee machines that you have, don't work properly.

Review 3:The Staff is very nice and helpful. We like the rooms with the river view.

Review 4:Although we booked on line it took nearly half a hour for the pleasant receptionist to locate it on the computer system. ( This may be the fault of Booking.com rather than the hotel,,,). We were tired and just wanted to get to our room. I didn't like the toilet paper - too think and not soft enough - not up to the standard of the rest of the room.

Review 5:The room was large and bed was comfortable. Nice bath tub. Though our room was near the highway it was well insulated and quiet. The hotel restaurant overlook as a lovely river.

Review 6:The heater in the room was very noisy. Not enough coffee pods in the room. Coffee in the lobby was $2.00 per cup for a bad cup of coffee. Stay to the restaurant for food and beverages.

Review 7:Nice atmosphere, restaurant had very good food. Staff was very friendly.

Review 8:When I arrived in my room, one of the pillows was on the floor rather than on the bed. Not really liking the liquid soaps in the shower that aren't replaced with each guest. Outside the hotel, you can smell some kind of factory and it stinks, but you can't smell it inside.

Review 9:Beds reasonably comfortable. Staff friendly. Decent food in the restaurant. It was close to where I needed to go.

Review 10:Room was a bit dated, bathroom fan was incredibly loud, heater was old and loud. Overall, was about a 7 out of 10.

Review 11:Good location, large venue, nice friendly staff.

Review 12:No hand soap in the room. No comforter. Hairs on n the bathtub. Dust on the nightstand. Smudges on the mirrors. Literally two barely watchable channels on the tv. When someone in the room above you walked you would think that the building is starting to collapse so whenever they wake up so do you. Since the sole purpose of staying in a hotel is to sleep the night, no other perk would be able to make up for this. Unless you stay at the top floor but who know what sleep time surprises await you there.

Review 13:The fireplace in the foyer looks cool.

Review 14:The bathroom was dated and could use a redo. There was a dirty towel in with the clean towels in the bathroom.

Review 15:The room was large. The beds were comfortable. The reception was welcoming. The Internet worked well.

Review 16:Enjoyed the room size, river view, and the restaurant. Service was very professional but casual. Excited to hear renovations are coming to modernize some things.

Review 17:A small refrigerator would have been a plus. We put the house keeping hanger up, since we were hoping to get more coffee pods for the second morning of our day. Unfortunately we didn't get anymore so we ended up buying our own. A lot of things have been updated, but you could tell some things were old (heating unit) and should probably updated too.

Review 18:Clean, quiet, comfortable. We had a double queen room and it felt very spacious, which was a big plus since we had our 3 kids with us and needed a pack-n-play set up.

Review 19:Front desk person ignored us for 5 minutes while dealing with a takeout food order; facilities need a facelift

Review 20:Large room, great price from booking.com

Review 21:No creamer, sugar, only 1 regular coffee in room, no coffee in lobby, loud vacuuming of halls at 9:15 a.m, no fridge, very slow check in

Review 22:Not having to drive after event

Review 23:Room was cold upon arrival. Not that big of deal. I hope when they upgrade they will go to thermostat heat. Thanks.

Review 24:Staff, quiet rooms, river view, value.

Review 25:I was expecting the cost to be $109, then I was told it was an additional $20 for river view, even though that wasn't mentioned on the website. Then, when I got the bill an additional $13 "occupation tax" was added, and my bank also added $22 to secure the reservation! So from $109 to $164! Quite a difference! I've stayed at hotels all over the world and never been subjected to that kind of nonsense! The jacuzzi was very dated and this place was hardly worth that kind of price!

Review 26:The staff that checked us in was very friendly.

Review 27:The staff lied to me about not charging my credit card and went ahead and checked me out two days early, without telling me, and used my card after I made I clear I wanted to pay in cash. Then they did not apologize and acted in a passive aggressive way.

Review 28:The rooms were small with no refrigerator or microwave. The beds were very uncomfortable! I wouldn't stay here again

Review 29:The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful

Review 30:Outrageous pet fee: non-refundable $40. (Booking.com did not tell us about this in advance.) No ice machines nearby. No refrigerator, no microwave. Most rain gutters clogged, creating large ponds at entries.

Review 31:Great location, especially if you need to walk a dog.

Review 32:The toilet in our room leaked. The shower dispensers had residue buildup and the drain in the shower had to be cleaned (by me) from hair build up. Disappointed we did not have a refrigerator or DVD player in the room. A guest was sitting just outside the lobby entrance smoking and this made for an unpleasant welcoming. The hallway to our room smelled like "old man BO".

Review 33:The beds were quite comfortable. We loved eating at the Sweet River Grill. The food was great. The proximity of the mall and other stores was nice and we would go again.

Review 34:The rooms need some serious attention...particularly in the bathroom. What is that...hard water stains in the toilet? Really?! There was also mold in the tile grouts, and something splashed on the wall. All have easy remedies with just an extra 10 minutes of cleaning per room.

Review 35:The front desk staff were fantastic, and the breakfast buffet had a nice assortment of items for its size.

Review 36:The front desk staff was excellent. I think they had my preferences stored somewhere because I got a room in exactly the right location that I wanted. The restaurant staff was excellent too.

Review 37:The facilities and rooms are old and not updated.

Review 38:The location was great! Right on the river and across from the mall and many restaurants. Right off the free way as well. Excellent and convenient location.

Review 39:No refridgerator nor was there free continental breakfast. That makes it difficult to dine on a budget when traveling with kids.

Review 40:We went for a Ducks game. Great location! We were able to walk to the restutaunt & then back to our room. Scenic view from our room. Great river walk & bicycles available.

Review 41:We had reservations months in advance. We attempted to check in at6:00pm, a full 2 hours after the check-in time. Our room was not ready. The front desk said to "try back in a little while." I asked if we could wait some where (like the bar), and they said "you can sit in the lobby if you want." They should have done something to make the wait more relaxing. I twice came back to the counter, and each time the same front desk person acted like she didn't know me, asking for my name again, and searching for my reservation as if for the first time. We waited for 45 minutes. Not the end of the world, but not what I would hope for after a 10 hour drive. Also, the "concierge level service" is not really as advertised. Rather than a "service", it's a couple of vouchers for 1 drink and a buffet breakfast and a rather steep up charge. Not worth it.

Review 42:My plane was delayed and arrived at 1:15 am. I called the front desk and explained that I would arrive late. She told me to call when I arrived and the hotel shuttle would pick me up. When I called, I was told that the shuttle was not available but a taxi would be sent and the hotel would pay the fair. After many calls to the front desk,( she never called me to ask if I was OK, if the taxi had arrived, etc. a taxi finally came at appx. 2am. I stood out in the cold by myself for part of the wait in the deserted airport . When I finally arrived at the hotel I was given a key and a map to my room, quite a walk away from the front desk.. I had two 50 lb. bags, a computer case, my purse.. The front desk clerk, Amanda, - never asked me if I needed help on the long walk to my room with my bags, etc. I finally asked her to please call someone to help me. An male employee finally brought the bags to my room. She really needs customer training. The next morning, Carlos at the front desk did comp my breakfast when he heard about the experience. He was very gracious.

Review 43:The room was very clean and had a comfortable bed, location was next to a bike path that paralleled the Willamette River which was nice for a morning walk.It is also very close to a shopping mall. The dining room service and the food are very good.I enjoyed sitting by the fireplace in the lobby.

Review 44:Smokers congregate by main entrance - guests, not staff. Ironically had to run the gauntlet every morning to and from the gym.

Review 45:Lovely hotel in a convenient location for everything that Eugene has to offer - which is a lot. The staff are charming, helpful and caring. Decor is fun and relaxing. We really enjoyed our stay.

Review 46:The bed was not comfortable and the yellow jackets in the outside eatingarea by the river were aggressive and I couldn't even complete mymeal. They should either screen the area in so people can enjoy the outdoors and their meal.

Review 47:Loved the seating outside by the river and the staff was nice.

Review 48:Just did not a clean feeling.

Review 49:Location was fine and dinner was excellent inside. You had a great deal of people eating outside that ended up inside because of the bees. Need to find a way to stop them while people are eating. The service was great in the concierge area.

Review 50:Air conditioning unit and fan in bathroom were loud.

Review 51:Large room. Had dinner in the restaurant and really enjoyed it. Good value. Staff was very friendly and professional.

Review 52:The room and the hallway leading to it reeked of mildew. I have a pretty high tolerance and I found it difficult to sleep because of the smell in the room. Because we were on a ground floor room, I also didn't feel comfortable sleeping with the patio door open and that was our only option to get outside air. I mentioned the wet, smelly hallway to the staff upon check out and she made a note. Hopefully this has been dealt with!

Review 53:Convenient location, nice river view.

Review 54:Would have been nicer to have a room facing the river. The view from the balcony was of the parking lot.

Review 55:dining room facing the river was lovely. restaurant was nice. food was good. hotel room very comfortable and clean.

Review 56:Screen door to the nice river view patio was broken so could not leave the door open. Room 206. I asked for my filet to be well done; but turned out to be overly well done, quite dry, tho rest of meal was great. We were eating late & I didn't want to keep folks late. Not certain how difficult it would be to out the rooms w mini refrigerators ; that would be nice for those of us that travel by staying at a number of our favorite hotels along our trip up and down I 5 and returning from the coast. Yours was the only place w/o a fridge or sm microwave . That being said we still consider the VRI one of our favs !!

Review 57:Service, food, location all in general: great

Review 58:Towels were old and scratchy. Bed linens were rough and and pillows were lumpy, making the beds very uncomfortable.

Review 59:Lovely location w/walking path along the river and easy walking to a number of restaurants. Very easy, free WiFi access.

Review 60:It was very easy to get lost. There should simply be signs pointing to the elevators. The one night I stayed there I ran into many confused customers who were also lost.

Review 61:The building itself is cozy and nice central location to get her in Eugene. I liked the rooms a lot, they were contemporary clean and comfortable. Hotel staff was friendly and accommodating. Their hotel security was professional and courteous as well.

Review 62:The facilities are dated with the hallways, stairwells and carpets run down a bit. My room was a River View and the screen door didn't work/shut properly so I couldn't let fresh air in without the evening bugs as well. The bathroom towels were worn and a little thin and one of my lamps didn't work, so the room was very dark.

Review 63:The location on the river and access to the path for walking and running. The room was spacious, bed was comfortable and room was clean. I enjoyed a meal at the hotel restaurant. Although overpriced, the food was fresh and well prepared (I ordered the house salad and organic chicken) and we had a nice view of the river. I also took advantage of the workout room which had several cardio machine options which were in good working order.

Review 64:The room was poorly vacuumed with bobby pins all over the floor. The desk chair mechanism did not work. I left a wake-up call, but it never came, and I was late to an event. I complained about all these, but the carpet was still not vacuumed properly and the chair was never fixed. My room was also noisy and I could hear the people above me walking around, and the people next to me showering.

Review 65:The view from the room was lovely, since I had a "river view" room. I liked the "on demand movies" available.

Review 66:Property was dirty and staff couldn't find our reservation. They finally did find our reservation but placed us in an a less expensive room since they didn't have any of the rooms we had booked available.

Review 67:We were awakened at 5 a.m. by our neighbor's phone conversation--heard every word she said. Stepping in to the shower was scary--we thought we might end up in the room below ours!

Review 68:Although the room needed some serious updating (icky old curtains, bedspread, carpet), it was very spacious and the TV worked. Breakfast was tasty, but for the overnight price it sure seems like breakfast should have been included.

Review 69:There was a burrito from the previous guest. No soap and few amenities. An outdoor chair missing in front of our room. Continental breakfast should be included to justify price.

Review 70:Spacious rooms with very good beds. Easy access from highway. Very good wifi.

Review 71:Had to wait for the room to be cleaned. Four staff at the front desk twiddled their thumbs, they were not busy at the desk. One or two of them could have assisted with getting the room ready sooner. We had two disabled adults waiting far too long in the heat of the day. Then when we were told the room had been cleaned, we were told we could not go to the room until it was inspected by a supervisor. This delayed us and made the wait even longer. What may have helped? A staff member from the front desk taking initiative to get the room ready. Collaborative team work. Two disabled adults and two family members had to wait far too long to enter the room.

Review 72:A prescription was left in the room. I called housekeeping and left a message the next day. Housekeeping called me back within ten minutes, reporting they had the prescription and would place it at the front desk for pick-up. I went to pick it up thirty minutes later. This transaction was very easy. Thank you!

Review 73:The room was very unclean (mirrors looked like they hadn't been cleaned in weeks, dust everywhere, discoloration on the toilet, staining in the bathtub, and a very large spider above the closet). I moved to the Hilton in downtown Eugene for the remainder of my trip and was much more pleased. I spent more on this hotel and there is no way it is a 4 star.

Review 74:Room was ok. Promoted river location but most rooms overlook parking. Use plastic cups in room. For price, this is cheesey

Review 75:Room size was good for 2 queen beds

Review 76:The breakfast was varied and nice but we came in the last 30 min along with a flood of other people and the food was quickly snatched up. Not the worst thing in the world but easily fixable by staff

Review 77:It looks like somebody has taken over the property and taken care to improve the rooms, the pool, and front desk to be inviting and comfortable. There is something comforting about being in an older hotel that somebody has invested time and money into restoring

Review 78:The room was located on the third floor facing the pool. The pool was very popular from mid-afternoon through 10:00 PM and the noise was very loud at times.

Review 79:Property is located next to the river and a short drive to downtown.

Review 80:It is a very large complex. A convention was staying there so parking was a little difficult. I have a bad leg, so my husband dropped me off and then he had to park a ways away from our room.

Review 81:Our room was quite large and comfortable. We had a river view and enjoyed it sitting on the small deck. Restaurant was good and staff was very nice.

Review 82:Facilities looked overused, not updated, cobwebs on patios, inferior linens and towels, beat up doors and carpets.

Review 83:Location overlooking the river, and extremely friendly staff.

Review 84:Good location for those traveling with pets! Loved the proximity to the river walkway. Food at Sweet Waters is excellent and loved the chef's garden.

Review 85:Because of U of O graduation I'm sure the cost of a room doubled to $290.00. The bathroom didn't look as if it had been cleaned very well. Asked for a wakeup call that never came. Will never stay here again.

Review 86:Nothing

Review 87:Our online booking didn't make it to the hotel's reservation system, causing a registration delay. We requested a quiet room away from the road and instead were placed directly next to the highway, with no other rooms available in our price range. The room was stuffy, and the only ventilation was either opening the slider patio door (that had no bug screen), and hearing the freeway, or turning on the very noisy air conditioner. Not enough lighting in the room. Only 1 bedside table and lamp, need one on each side of the bed.

Review 88:Loved the restaurant and cocktail lounge. River view during meals. Staff and service is wonderful and the food was great.

Review 89:The staff are always friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and comfortable. If you get a room overlooking the river, it is beautiful. The Sweetwaters Restaurant has some outstanding meals.

Review 90:I had requested a room on the upper level, but got one on the bottom floor. We could not see the river very well at all. The room had a strange smell to it and felt dirty. In addition, they brought us to the room before it had been cleaned. On our last night they moved us (since I asked every day of our stay) to an upper level room, which was so clean compared to the one downstairs. I would have enjoyed it much more if I did not have to spend two nights in that dirty room with the odd odor.

Review 91:The staff was nice. Especially Michael at the front desk and Christopher.

Review 92:The establishment is in need of an update. It is beginning to feel a little shabby.

Review 93:The hotel is located with easy access to major roads and the mall. The staff was very friendly.

Review 94:The price was way too high! The price changed every time I spoke to someone. The one executive suite room went up over $200.00. The regular room went up about $90 more. The bed was freezing! No blanket or comforter.

Review 95:Love everything but price!

Review 96:Can be a little noisy because you can hear the people upsatairs. Also you have to ask for a fridge and they bring you the tiniest fridge that was old and noisy. No microwave. I know they have a restaurant but some people do prefer to use a mini fridge and microwave too

Review 97:Love the people there! Also they always give me a patio because I have a service animal so I love that for convenience. Beautiful facility. Great prices on room service! Wish a fridge came with the room that was bigger and newer.

Review 98:The price seemed high for the condition of property. Some small touches could add great appeal. Nice plants around dining deck, and replacing worn sheets and blankets. A night light in bathroom would be helpful.

Review 99:Location is great. Nice walking and shopping area. Very close to downtown. Lots of eating options.

Review 100:We did order a couple pizza's for room service that weren't so tasty... But honestly... This place was great. Really no complaints!

Review 101:My daughter and I stayed here on an impromptu birthday trip for her. When she blurted out that it was her birthday at check in, the clerk gave us a river-view room and a chili are covered Oreo! My daughter was in heaven and so was I. Gorgeous and very comfortable place.

Review 102:Water heat in shower was not consistent. There were a couple of lukewarm showers!

Review 103:Incredible staff. Very helpful and friendly! Even have me a ride to Wal-Mart and waited while I shopped!

Review 104:Our waiter! Maybe he was having a bad day but he just seemed like he was forcing himself to be nice. I'm sorry did we offend you somehow?

Review 105:I loved the check in concierge and the two ladies we checked out with. The were very friendly. The room was very nice although the slightest bit dusty. The restaurant was excellent, delicious food.

Review 106:Shame they didn't include breakfast in the rate, but given the size of the hotel, it probably wasn't surprising.

Review 107:Given the reviews of all the other local hotels, this one had the best reviews for the price which was the only reason we chose it. It was a good, perfectly adequate hotel. Lovely to walk along the river in the morning, and they also have bikes you can hire if you have some time to spare. Also located in an area of out of town shops, cinema and eateries. Two restuarants within less than five minutes walking distance.

Review 108:No down side to this stay.

Review 109:The room was very nice and their restaurant had great food. The location was perfect. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance. There is a mall across the parking lot with a movie theater. There is also a bus stop right outside of the hotel if you are without a car.

Review 110:You need to have the maids check the windowsills for cob webs. Our room had them in both corners...and they'd been there for awhile.

Review 111:The beds were comfy but it's odd that there's not comforter. I understand why...maybe you could have extra blankets already in the room. Heated floor in the bathroom was nice!

Review 112:Expensive for what you got,,, I had requested a river view for the money,,,but upon arrival was assigned a courtyard view. I won't return...The reservation desk was chaotic...

Review 113:Never do these reviews but this place is a joke. In short, came down for a special occasion that included dinner that required reservations and a concert that evening. Checking was at 4 room was not ready for hours after that, in the end missed our dinner reservations, barely got into our room with enough time to change and head to the concert. During our wait we sat in the lounge where the service was the worse I have experienced in a long time, drinks where very small, not very good and over priced. In the end they promised a full refund for our one night stay but ended up giving it to the couple we were traveling with 2 weeks later and charging us, so we again had to deal with these jokers. We will never go back!

Review 114:So sad to see a wonderful hotel as this one lose its luster. Our room could have had less of a poor visual impact if it had bedspreads and not just sheets as a cover. Also the mattress needed to be replaced.

Review 115:Our dinner was superb! and the dining room staff was very attentive.

Review 116:Wish the beds had thicker comforters. There were no extra blankets in room and could have used more warmth. Turning on the heat in the middle of the night was not an option as it would have been too noisy.

Review 117:The staff was extraordinarily welcoming. We have been in many motels over the years and this stood out.

Review 118:The "soaking tub" is a little overstated. It's just a tub/shower combo, at least in the room we had. Also, the shower drained real slow. We kept having trouble with our key cards. They would deactivate real easy. None of these were a big enough deal to keep us from coming back. We still enjoyed our stay, just a couple little annoying things.

Review 119:Located not far off the freeway, within walking distance of a few good restaurants and a nice shopping mall, right on the river, with a good restaurant down stairs and some good room service. It's an older place (60's-70's) that has some character but has been kept up nice.

Review 120:my wife is recovering from a stroke and I can hadle wauke do to painful legs.they offerd a privit bar beteen 6-8 but it was closed with out notice and we ended up in the main bar&grill after a lot of extra wauking

Review 121:nice porters who went the extra mile helping us with are bags

Review 122:If booking through a website like booking.com and you are eligible for a lower rate, such as a military discount, they are unable to accommodate this lower rate... However multiple other hotels are able to complete this. In addition to this, the check in is 4pm however at 4:20pm my room was still not available. I was upgraded but into a room full of cobwebs and dust/dirt everywhere.

Review 123:Everything was overpriced all the way to a 4 dollar Pepsi. We ordered room service and the food was not cooked came cold and not very good they charged me 70$ for breakfast there we ordered 2 plates and juice a breakfast that would cost 20 anywhere else.

Review 124:The location

Review 125:Poor response to having a coffee maker that didn't work at 8AM. We'll have engineering come up to check it out or you can get some at the espresso bar. I asked that they send up engineering. 8:45 no one had come so I dress and go down to the espresso bar. It apparently isn't meant for walk up customers. When I figured that out, I flagged a wait person who was nice enough to get two coffees to go from a back room. When asked how our stay had been at check out, the manager was apologetic and gave us a voucher for breakfast. That was nice.

Review 126:location and having a restaurant in the facility.

Review 127:Front desk staff were cold and asked me to wait for more than 10mins just because he's on the phone. I booked a concierge room and nobody let me know the concierge club was closed during my stay until I asked. The concierge club was a hotel room rather than a real lounge. The shuttle driver left without saying bye to us after tipping him. The lamps in the room were broken and tub was plugged. I will never recommend this place to anyone.

Review 128:The location is good and bed is comfortable.

Review 129:There was absolutely nothing I didn't like.

Review 130:I loved laying in bed and watching the river flow by reflecting the lights. Lovely, lovely! The food was to die for and everyone treated me like a queen.

Review 131:Very friendly staff. Clean non smoking rooms. Very comfortable large bed. All of the amenities you could ask for in a top quality room and an excellent restaurant.

Review 132:The food is wonderful. You know the chef knows what he is doing when the salmon comes to the table moist and delicious. very one is like family. I love the place.

Review 133:I wish I was more informed upon check in of all services available to me and that of local surroundings.

Review 134:Very impressed by staff and willingness to accommodate my needs. I rode the train and was on foot for the most part, the shuttle availability was tremendously helpful.

Review 135:Beds were not made up on Thanksgiving day, so front desk gave us a discount on the rooms. Hotel is old and needs a face lift.

Review 136:Very spacious and comfortable rooms. Location near Valley River mall and main roads a plus, as its easy to move about the city.
