Reviews for Kona Coast Resort
Review 1:The carpets could have been cleaner. We requested a crib for our 15 month old baby, but all they had was a pack-n-play which wasn't ideal. Part of the pool deck was being fixed and the deep end of the could not be used.
Review 2:The room (apartment) was very large, with a fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, 2 bathrooms, a living room, dining area and large bedroom. We loved having the bedroom separate from the living area, so the baby could take naps and sleep without interruptions. Great pool and ocean view from the balcony. Location was very good, next to shopping center with grocery store and some restaurants. Free WiFi Very reasonable price for the area.
Review 3:The tv in the bedroom was outdated with a built in VHS player. Only had 3 towels in the unit and had to call for more right away.
Review 4:The unit size was nice and comfortable.
Review 5:Time share pressures and remodeling noise unbelievable and so aloof . No beach accesses . Worst place we stayed in the 2 weeks we have been here . We left early but we were charged.
Review 6:Nothing
Review 7:This property is old and dirty. Mold in the bathrooms. Carpets soiled. Furniture wearing out. Ceiling fans very noisy. Kitchen worn and appliances used up. Large puddles of water gather and stand on all the landings when it rains. It needs to be totally remodeled.
Review 8:Beautiful location on Ali'i Drive in Kona.
Review 9:Not right off the coast like some hotels.
Review 10:It was more affordable to stay in a villa than a hotel in the Kona area. Very nice condo-esk facility not far from beaches, mini mall, and the close coast.
Review 11:One cockroach in the cutlery drawer.
Review 12:We loved having a villa with all the extra space. Full kitchen and laundry made it easy to make our on meals and clean up after a day of hiking.
Review 13:The amenities are to tick boxes. For the size of the resort, each and every amenity is pathetic and inadequate. The rooms are aged and look like they belong in the 1980s. The Resort has silly policies like a 10AM check-out. Restaurant is one step above a dive bar.
Review 14:Staff are nice, location relative to other things in Kona and the East Coast is good Rooms are very large and that is good.
Review 15:Pool a bit too noisy (no enforcment of no splashing rules etc.), so we left for the beaches usually when the kids arrived. No direct beach access though, locarion is not perfect. Also for dinner you need to drive to Kona because the only decent place arou nd is Sam Choy’s. Regularions for beach towels are stupidly strict (one towel per guest, sign in and exchange only if staff is around. Once they didn’t even have fresh towels ready).
Review 16:Very gib apartment with two bathrooms, kitchen and big balcony, just like at home. Pool was nice as well, little gym ok.
Review 17:The cleanliness of the rooms we had was a bit lacking - wasn't well swept or vacuumed and shower wasn't the cleanest (hairs)
Review 18:Good location and the rooms and facility had everything we could possibly need
Review 19:Shower pressure poor and uncomfortable bed that squeaked everything you moved. Encouraged to see concierge for any questions but that proved to be a hard sell.
Review 20:Roomy with good apartment facilities if needed. Good location to access Kona town and drive to Green Sand Beach, Black Sand Beach and even Volcano (2 hour drive).
Review 21:We stayed at the second floor. It seems that the water pressure is not powerful enough when taking shower.
Review 22:You can totally relax at the balcony enjoying the beautiful view of golf court and the sea.
Review 23:We liked everything and wished we had more time to stay. The lack of trade winds made being outside less than comfortable, but no one was complaining.
Review 24:We motored to the north shore for malasadas and enjoyed a luau on our first day. Having been on the Big Island before, I introduced my son and his wife to Hawaii by scheduling a flight from Hilo to view the volcano. A Kona coffee excursion was a pleasant addition to a lovely trip in the four days we were there.
Review 25:The spas were too hot, we couldn'the ever get in them.
Review 26:Mark the concierge had great local places to eat and we were never let down. We will choose mom and pop places over chains anytime! The whole coast of the property was great for the sunsets. Our room was great and we definitely took advantage of the full kitchen.
Review 27:Everything that I seen and use for a short stay Thanks again !!!
Review 28:It was a short weekend hardly used the room had a Faimly reunion down the road! Planning to stay for a good low price that can afford!thanks for a nice weekend
Review 29:We had to let people in to measure windows and there were 3 very intrusive men I was sleeping and they came in the bedroom I was very uncomfortable
Review 30:Very spacious and comfortable
Review 31:We had an older unit which had a defective dryer, slow AC unit, and water took about five minutes to get hot.
Review 32:Friendly helpful staff, easy check in/out. Clean facilities/
Review 33:That we didn't have more time...
Review 34:The villa we stayed in was fronting the main pool, golf course, and the ocean, on the bottom floor!!! Two bathrooms, washer dryer, full kitchen, BBQ grills & picnic table right outside, volleyball net, and Sam Choys restaurant just above the property. Yes!!!
Review 35:We were there for 6 nights and got cleaning service just once. The gym is not that clean and gets very hot. We decided to stay another 8 nights but at the reception they told us we had to call a phone number, so we decided to move somewhere else.
Review 36:The kitchen was fully equipped. The apartment was very clean. We loved that we had access to the pool till 11pm. The apartment is good value if it's for 2 couples.
Review 37:You cannot access the ocean from this property; you will need to drive to the beaches, but they are within one mile or less. This is mainly a time share property, so you will be invited to attend their presentation. It was not at all a hard sell, but they do offer incentives to attend as you are checking in, and you should be prepared for this. The only poor service we received was from the woman at the Activities Desk, who obviously was not very interested in helping us get oriented or find the best beach but rather in selling us very expensive tours (snorkeling, etc.).
Review 38:Large and very pretty property. Our unit had a lanai which overlooked the ocean (although the property is not directly on the ocean). The unit was huge with a complete living room, bedroom, dining room, lanai, two full bathrooms, and large kitchen with everything needed for cooking. We asked for a higher level room prior to arriving and they accommodated our request. The main pool also has a hot tub that overlooks the ocean. There is also a lovely, slightly smaller pool for adults, so it is peaceful. The main town strip with restaurants and shopping is within a 10 minute drive. There is a shopping center you can walk to with a huge grocery store. Staff was friendly and welcoming when we arrived; housekeeping staff were very responsive when we needed something, arriving within 10 minutes. They had a welcoming show on Monday evening that was the best we saw on our trip; it was very young children doing the hula with their teacher singing and a live band (her family).
Review 39:It was about a mile from the beach, no problem to us as we had a car, but quite a walk back up the hill if you didn't.
Review 40:The unit was huge! It was very well appointed with a/c, a full sized ice-making fridge, a coffee machine, even a blender to make smoothies. A full kitchen was supplied.
Review 41:we were there in 1992 and we were disappointed that the area had changed so drastically. We understand that change is inevitable. We will be back...loved it!!!!!a
Review 42:Location of unit. great view;extremely relaxing!
Review 43:Not everything work well in the room the door was coming off track the housekeeping delivered things way too late
Review 44:Very clean and neat had an early check in was happy and satisfied
Review 45:We needed to do some work while we were on vacation, and the wifi was so slow that we ended up using the personal hotspot on our phones. I was told by the staff that they are in the process of upgrading, which hopefully will improve the service.
Review 46:The condo was nicely laid out, with plenty of room for a couple. We appreciated the cleaning, which occurred twice during our 8-night stay. The kitchen was overall well-stocked with appliances, dishware, and utensils, though they could use some tupperware perhaps. Staff was very friendly. Though not oceanfront, the location is very convenient, within walking distance to supermarket and to Kahaluu, a great snorkeling spot.
Review 47:There is no beach access, but the resort is close enough for a short drive (if you have small kids) or a walk.
Review 48:The resort was good enough to stay onsite, but who would do that? The Activities Desk had great info, the Splash was reasonably priced, pools are relaxing, and staff are excellent!
Review 49:Trash (maybe it was recycle) bagged outside units from housekeeping for a few days. No swimming beach access from property.
Review 50:Plenty of room. Adequate closets storage, safe grounds to traverse with a walker, pool was not crowded.shuffle board. We were two families traveling together ages 87-11 yrs using two units.
Review 51:The check in process was a nightmare. I booked the hotel two months before the check in date yet upon arrival front desk informed me they have no record of my reservation and they have to call booking.com. After waiting for at least 40 minutes I finally get to go to my room granted it was one of the last available room because the front desk has to book it just when they find out they don't have my reservation so let's just say there's no view outside of the room. Then when i pulled out the sofa bed, I noticed it was broken and if you sleep in it you'll end up on the floor. So after 90 minutes since I arrived, I had to drag my luggage to another room.
Review 52:Bed is comfortable.
Review 53:The beds were not as new as is expect and were uncomfortable for me and my husband. The bed on the pullout is not even sleep able to us.
Review 54:I love the kitchen here and as we cook a lot it works out well. Spacious suites and nice surroundings. The kids love the pool, and everything is clean. Love the two bedroom unit.
Review 55:nothing, really nothing. Just a great hotel!
Review 56:- super big room with a great kitchen and a big balcony - very clean, very comfortable - very nice staff - great amenities, big pools, hot tubs, lots of BBQ areas for self use - great location from sight seeing points and beaches
Review 57:We loved everything.
Review 58:From the moment my husband and I stepped on the property, we were blown away. The property was beautiful and the size, furnishings, and cleanliness of the rooms went beyond our expectations.
Review 59:No coastal access below the hotel, need a car to get to the beach.
Review 60:Really well equipped flats, made you feel at home (actually much better than home!). Staff non intrusive but very competent when you need them.
Review 61:Ridiculously expensive for what it is. This may be due to the time of year when Kona race is on. Is it necessary to fleece the tourists though????
Review 62:Average resort with pass rate facilities.
Review 63:I paid breackfast included and didnt have. What they called breackfast was a glass of icetea with a muffing, an ambush to listen all the salespeople (trips, excursion, diving) Didnt have towels in the pool area.
Review 64:Building. Cleaningless. Comfort. Views.
Review 65:Bed squeaked every time anybody moved-new beds would be great.
Review 66:We really liked this resort. The villa was a great size and although the furniture was a little dated , it was quite comfortable. The kitchen was very well stocked and there was detergent and dish washing powder. It was great having a washer and dryer in the villa. Grounds were beautiful and well maintained. We didn't pay extra for air conditioning.
Review 67:Lanai isn't very private, you can see your neighbor.
Review 68:Location on Kailua Bay is excellent. The pool and the salt water lagoon are beautiful. I enjoyed the live entertainment at the lounge and the lu'au is superb!!
Review 69:poor customer service, poor staff attitude, no interest in insuring good customer support Examples: Bad wifi gave hot spot device but threatened $500 if not returned; made it seem like it was our fault. Charged $1.50 for extra washer soap - ridiculous when spending $3000 for the week. Had one teeny shampoo sample for entire week. Always came to clean in afternoon when we were in the room. in shower, poor shower. Mediocre food at restaurant. Most disappointing experience was attitude of staff when I asked for late check out when I had to rush into town to get ironman finisher jacket ( I had just completed race) and could not make 10 AM check out. The office host acted like I was joking and said absolutely not. That experience alone will prevent me from recommending your resort to anyone in future. It was the attidude and unwillingness to be helpful that surprised me the most.
Review 70:Nice facilities, nice location
Review 71:the check out time was at 10:00 AM. We wanted a late check out but was not available.
Review 72:loved the condo itself and the pools. the convince of the location was great to
Review 73:Huge room with full kitchen, two bathrooms and everything you need to cook and prepare meals. Stayed 12 days! Best place to stay on the Big Island.
Review 74:No beach access on property BUT very near a beautiful beach for snorkeling.
Review 75:Very well-maintained, high quality facility. Very nice people at check in and front desk very helpful. Well worth the money for relaxation.
Review 76:- Construction on the golf course (not that we golf, but we were next to the course), still it wasn't loud and not a big issue.
Review 77:- Staff was incredibly helpful -- the one time we called with an issue the response was immediate. - Stunning rooms and incredibly spacious for the cost. - Very clean -- from towels, to appliances, to everything. - AC for those who can't handle the heat. - Easy parking.
Review 78:It's a little farther from the main activity in town and the beaches, but I wouldn't be deterred by that unless you really want to hang out in town without driving (there's enough parking in Kona that it isn't a problem to drive in).
Review 79:The units in this place are huge - I've stayed here twice and both times we had plenty of room for 4 people (two in the master bedroom and two on a living room pull-out couch bed), and the kitchen has everything you need for cooking a real meal, baking, or grilling (there are even grills outside). There's even an in-room washer/dryer. Very comfortable. I'm not usually one to hang out in hotel rooms, but this place is worth it. Just across the main road is a shopping complex so you can get groceries (or eat out).
Review 80:Spacious villas. 1 bed 2 baths. Full kitchen, we like to cook in some and eat out too. Unit was well appointed with flat screen TV in living room, TV in bedroom also. Free wifi, spacious lanais. Nice pool area and restaurant /bar on site. Good location in south Kona
Review 81:There was construction near the resort during our 9 day stay and equipments were annoyance to guests. Mattress & Sofa bed were saggy and need replacement. Also, there is mold-like smell in the room that prompted us to open the windows from time-to-time.
Review 82:Location is great and facilities are good. Staff very helpful overall.
Review 83:Can't think of a thing.
Review 84:The upkeep of the room was great. The staff were very friendly and the air conditioner was quiet and kept the temperature to the setting.
Review 85:Pool filled with kids all the time. Restaurant food limited choice.
Review 86:Large condo style with all amenities. Very clean and easy access. Plenty of room and parking. Restaurant pizza is very good but limited other choices. Shopping center adjacent is convenient.
Review 87:Beds were not that comfortable
Review 88:Very friendly, helpful staff, great location, very quiet, plenty of room, full kitchen, air conditioning (essential in Kona), shaded parking (not all spots, but a good number), very reasonable rates (135/night to sleep 3 people)
Review 89:Some broken / malfunctioning pieces of furniture in the room, but on small scale.
