Reviews for Lake Clarens Guest House
Review 1:Not well-kept. We had to ask for them to clean our bathroom upon arriving, and there were dead bugs in corners. I understand bugs, it's South Africa, but you'd think they could remove the dead ones when cleaning.
Review 2:The bed was comfortable and the location was convenient. Breakfast was nice b
Review 3:The staff didn't have a lot of English. The night guard was not very professional and seemed a bit dodgy - he had no uniform and it was unclear if he actually worked there. The bar next door could be noisy but seems to quieten down early. Due to be being so close to the lake, the guesthouse does have a lot of insects and we needed insect repellent. There were a number of dead insects in the room when we arrived
Review 4:The view from our room and the patio was spectacular - over the lake and up the mountains. This is a very pretty part of the country and this guesthouse makes the most of it! The room was comfortable and bigger than expected and the bed was very comfortable and big - had a really good sleep. Breakfast in the morning was outside on the verandah, giving a beautiful view over the mountains as you eat! The food was also of a very high quality and a there was a good selection. For dinner, there are many good restaurants in easy walking distance
Review 5:Manager was not available at our checkin and had left with the reservation book. we were therefore unable to check in as much as the other staff tried to assist. When she did arrive we were not given a briefing as to breakfast times, what time doors closed how we should get in if were got back late etc. She also shouted at staff in front of guests.
Review 6:Location was very good, lovely looking building.
Review 7:Table cloth at breakfast was dirty. The chairs outside were wet from the rain and left for the patrons to sit on. Upgrade needed to the rooms!
Review 8:Breakfast was lovely. The staff wee friendly.
Review 9:Room 2 was a little dark, and staff were friendly but appeared to be just going through the motions.
Review 10:Good little guest house, full of character overlooking the lake a few minutes walk from the busy village centre. Room was clean, sweet and old fashioned with a excellent plentiful breakfast. Clarens is very touristy and a tad 'fake' feeling.
Review 11:Very pretty setting and love the old stone cottage feel. Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the lake and mountains was beautiful. Breakfast was a treat. Freshly baked muffins just made it special.
Review 12:It was absolutely charming! You enjoy breakfast out on the verandah area with a great view of the lake and mountains. The fired brinjals are a must! Best of all are the hots, who make you feel completely welcomed! Will definitely be going back soon :)
Review 13:I would have liked to be offered a selection of drinks in our fridge as an added extra as well as tea and coffee served in the garden during the day, also as an extra charge.
Review 14:The lodge was very clean and everything was in order. The breakfast was awesome and service was great. Your vehicle was washed every day without extra cost and without having to ask for it to be done.
Review 15:We loved the look of the place, the location was excellent with the Artichoke Restaurant right next door and the centre of Clarens all within walking distance.
Review 16:The bed was extremely uncomfortable. Towels were paper thin. Parking was not secure as advertised. Breakfast was cold when it reached us, eventually. Not worth the price at all. Noisy, intoxicated guests returning from a wedding were looking for their room and proceeded to wake up the entire guest house. I presume that better signage as to how to check in after hours might have helped, but the guest house was extremely noisy in any case.
Review 17:The view was nice.
Review 18:There just seemed to be a lack of reception for queries but it was not too much of a problem.
Review 19:The guest house is set in the most beautiful surroundings overlooking the lake and a very easy walking distance to the village. It was honestly the most comfortable bed I have slept in and I could not have been more comfortable!
Review 20:The room was full of thoughtful touches, including the latest magazines and a basket of snacks that was replenished daily. Breakfast on the gorgeous sunny terrace is a real pleasure.
Review 21:No complaints.

Review 30:Refer above. Additionally, for interest sake your Bible should at least indicate what non-South African languages are other than English! I guessed the other languages were Spanish & French - I could be wrong, pardon me.
Review 31:Views, staff helpfulness ( but being an African non-Sotho speaker was a barrier to communication - majority of staff not able to understand and speak English), food was good but time lapse between serving toasted bread & eggs etc. was so long that we have to eat cold toasted bread - cold toasted bread is a mission to eat!
Review 32:The bathrooms and bedrooms and dining areaoutdated and need an urgent make- over. The tiles old, shower doors rusty and decor very tired. The 4 star rating must have bee from years ago.
Review 33:The setting and location excellent. Right on the border of town with lovely views over the Lake to the mountains. The buildings beautiful original sandstone and pretty gardens.our bed very comfy. There is a restaurant right next door for take- outs etc.
Review 34:Nothing at all
