Reviews for Charoen Hotel
Review 1:We all got runny noses there, might be that the air conditioner was dirty or some fungus in the room.
Review 2:Location is very good. In the heart of the city and walking distance to Shopping, Restaurants and Night Life. They let us squeeze in two adults and two children in one room.
Review 3:Overpriced, very old bathroom, stand in the bath to take a shower. Disapointing breakfast. My girlfriend left a coat there. We called the next morning and were told by the cleaner it was not there. On calling the housekeeper it suddenly appeared.
Review 4:Live music at the bar.
Review 5:The hotel was old but clean. Breakfast was good. It was close to the bus terminal where the international bus to Vientiane departs. I could say value for money.
Review 6:A bit of noise from the air conditioning outside.
Review 7:Near the shopping mall, bars and places to eat. Plenty of space around the swimming pool area and sun most of the day. Breakfast good.
Review 8:Room and bathroom a bit old 200 bth from hotel to airport with taxy (10 minutes away) to my idea is a High preis
Review 9:Staff very professional Hotel is a good location in town They serve good food ( breakfast lunch and dinner )
Review 10:Rooms (which are really big and comfortable) haven't be renovated for long time
Review 11:Very central, just a short walk from train station and central world. English speaking staff, big pool.
Review 12:bad internet, however i'm using my own Mifi now when staying at Charoen hotel. Only 1 plug available (water cooker) for charging mobile devices, + 1 in the bathroom.
Review 13:good value for the money at this location. Very good (Thai) breakfast
Review 14:Booked a cot for a young baby, it was something from a Romanian orphanage wide bars not up to European standard....
Review 15:Good value hotel a little tired but ok for the money, the staff are good and very attentive.
Review 16:Breakfast should be improved and the poolarea could use a facelift
Review 17:Most parts was good, really good value for money and the location as well was close to everything.
Review 18:1. The entire hotel is deteriorating 2. Swimming pool men's shower room was filthy 3. Swimming pool floor and rim were comprised of a sharp shell surface that may cause injury
Review 19:Convenient location Professional staff Ample space inside and outside The large green trees Yellowbird disco on Saturday night at 1 AM Ghosts of 1968 (when the hotel was built) The view from the upper floors
Review 20:The toaster at breakfast electrocuted me 4 times The rooms were decorated very old fashioned The taxi from the hotel to the airport was very expensive - 200 BAHT for a 10 minute journey The swimming pool looked very run down and I would not swim in it
Review 21:Staff were friendly Bed was comfortable There was a good selection at breakfast
Review 22:Almost no staff spoke English which made things a little difficult. And the cooked food was generally cold at breakfast.
Review 23:Friendly helpful staff and great location
Review 24:It was all a bit grubby and tired, the air con was noisy and there were cockroaches in the room. Our room phone only worked once and the staff didn't communicate very well in English.
Review 25:Big rooms, lovely pool area. Interesting assortment for breakfast. Good location easy access to town and bars/shopping/bus station.
Review 26:Airport shuttle runs at fairly inconvenient times. Morning runs go at 8am, then 12.30pm. Not ideal for someone with a 12.30pm flight. The shower was at best lukewarm. It's impossible to escape the noise of karaoke if you eat in the restaurant.
Review 27:Very comfortable - and as a backpacker, I was attracted by the reasonable price. Staff were very helpful. Breakfast was great.
Review 28:There are many functions at the hotel and can get a bit crowded. Also, the night club in the back is very noisy, but doesn't go too late or every night. Also, the pool looks great, but the tiles around it are slippery and dangerous. The gravel on the shallow end will literally cut your feet.
Review 29:Hotel has an older and a newer section. They are essentially the same. The room had its quirks, but it was very clean. The breakfast was ok. The staff was great.
Review 30:Pool was cold. No elevator to get to second floor of rooms by the pool.
Review 31:Manager was helpful and spoke great English. Very accommodating. Van was available to the airport. Need own transportation since not close to downtown, but quiet and safe setting. Cook to order breakfast. Spacious room. Great AC.
Review 32:Arranged for airport pick up included in the price but they failed to turn up as they dont pick up after 6pm allegedly . However it doesn't state this on website . Taxi cost 200 baht !!!!
Review 33:Breakfast was not good. "hot" dishes were absolutely cold. No choice of bread whatever. You get plain white regardless. Choice of everything was minimal. I avoided the dining room at other times
Review 34:The staff were all helpful and courteous.
Review 35:lighting very dim Bathroom quite tatty Pool not clean Bed sheets had gaps - unhygienic and easy to become scruffy
Review 36:aircon was broken on first night but when fixed it was strong. Wifi strength was ok but disconnects a lot when not in use Exterior quite pretty.
Review 37:Everything else was just poor, the hotel which was probably decent in the 90s is now just worn out, wifi was ify, breakfast was a waste of time.
Review 38:The reception staff were exceptionaly friendly and happy to help and always smiling. Location is close to centre
Review 39:We stay in Udon Thani often, but never stayed the Chaoen Hotel, mainly because it looked "old". What a pleasant surprise. The rooms were very large, super clean, and my wife loved the bathtub. The breakfast was ok, geared more toward the Asian guest, but acceptable. They offered to fix me eggs any style I wanted, and the service was great. The pool, was clean and very large, perfect on a hot day.
Review 40:Bed was a little hard, breakfast was just OK, this hotel really does require a major make over, we had a deluxe room and the bathroom was in very poor condition, air con a little noisy, it was not value for money, there are now better places close by to stay that are the same price.
Review 41:Staff are OK, good location, room size better than some other hotels.
Review 42:Wi-fi is free, but it's kind of slow
Review 43:1. Located close to bus station and Central plaza 2. Comfy bed 3. Has bath tubs in most if not all rooms 4. Also has a disco in the premises which gets quite busy (even on Tuesday night when I was there). Works until 2am. 5. Breakfast is ok 6. Has swimming pool
Review 44:Lack of shade around pool. Pool furniture needs replacing and more of it. No longer having entertainment around pool in the evening.
Review 45:Very good location for shops, Bars and Shopping Mall (5-10 min walk) Pool and room. Restaurant. Evening entertainment (In Hotel and restaurant)
Review 46:I have complained about this problem a few times now and nothing has been done I think the leaving of old TV sets on every stair landing is dangerous to all clients of the hotel. I am dew back in 10 days time and if the problem is still There I will not be booking the hotel again.
Review 47:Love everything about this hotel except 1 thing
Review 48:The bed is like a cement slab ,we like a firm bed but we found it hard to sleep we were going to return but because of the bed we have booked somewhere else.
Review 49:Intermittent wifi.
Review 50:Older hotel but maintenance has been very good. Large room, two comfortable armchairs, good working desk, convenient bathroom, pool view with minimal traffic noise as the hotel is set back from the main road, excellent breakfast, good pool, friendly staff, very convenient location for malls, night market, bars, bus and rail station, etc. A taste of what better hotels used to be like in central Udon for 1,000 baht. A rare bargain! Highly recommended!
Review 51:Pool was made from sand and rocks. Cut up the feet a bit. They really need to upgrade the pool to tile and use less chlorine.
Review 52:I liked the convenience of the pool and the staff was always willing to help with food and drinks. Close to central mall for easy shopping.
Review 53:Wifi was not that great went off and on now and again
Review 54:The hotel is in a excellent location many restaurants and central plaza is in waking distance. Staff are very friendly and the hotel is very clean. Breakfast was very good have many choices
Review 55:AC is a bit loud on the outside but works fine. furniture and room old and torn, needs renovation, sure it was stunning looking hotel in the 1970s but now it has seen its better days. At least I had a new floor which helped raise it to acceptable. Ask for one of the refreshed rooms. some band playing drums and stuff at 7 on Saturday morning?? It was not a Thai-holliday so must have been a wedding or something but what are they thinking 7am on SATURDAY and DRUMS, talk about annoying. Every night there is a caravan of cars going in to the town's, apparently, most popular karaoke club on hotel premises. Which means the Car Guards will blow their whistle 20 times/min for a couple of hours to direct traffic on the parking lot.. do they really need to whistle, can't they use light sabers or something? For those of you that are like me and a little sensitive to noises I found a brilliant quiet and peaceful place called Udon greenville. Book a couple of nights on Charoen and enjoy the city and nightlife then recover at greenville for a day or two, that's my rec.
Review 56:ok wifi nice pools but need to be cleaned more often close to central plaza mall and night market etc but overall ok place to stay. Staff very service minded.
Review 57:It would be overpriced at the rack rate. Tired rooms. Not massively convenient plug sockets.
Review 58:The pool was a welcome sight. Good location. Friendly staff. Free airport transfer.
Review 59:Nothing. I'm this price range you can't ask for more
Review 60:Perfect location can walk to Central, Farang St and Nightmarkets. Hotel is simple but clean and large and we'll run. Has a pool. Excellent value really a bargain. Would stay here again In a flash
Review 61:Rooms a bit dated but it was clean and comfortable. Terrible breakfast. Discotec club and Karaoke a bit loud at night and the walls aren't soundproofed.
Review 62:Very close to the bus stop, perfect place for a short stop on the way to Vientiane. Close to mall. Short walk to restaurants. Staff speak English reasonably well which is quite rare in Udon Thani.
Review 63:Can be quite some noise from both the street and the nightclub. The hotel did not honor an agreement i made with staff about price for extra night which was strange and cost me 150 bath.
Review 64:Really good buffet breakfast. Good location walking distance to busstation and night market. Nice free pickup and airport transfer.
Review 65:- staff tried to earn 20% by refering to a car-rental - room was a bit run-down (equipment was 20+ years old)
Review 66:- room was clean - breakfast was ok (good mix between western and asian food) - value was ok for the money
Review 67:Thete are two sections to the hotel not even close to full but they put booking.com reservation in the older worn section okay not great thete are many better choices
Review 68:all very good
Review 69:best location close and within walking distance to bus station, shopping center Central Plaza and 7/11. Good and sufficient breakfast. Comfortable mattresses. Good wifi connection. Helpful staff. Printed out boarding pass and asked no charge.
Review 70:COLD water. Bath not possible. Bad Wifi. Restaurant now 'tired' and impersonal. Same sauce for a steak as for salmon. Weird and frankly, wrong. Cocktails VERY weak on the alchohol front. lol
Review 71:Location, cleanliness. Staff ok.
Review 72:On the website it said that they offer a free airport transfer. However when we asked for it we were told it wasn't available at that time of the day (17.30 hrs.). So we took a regular taxi. Bad smell in the room.
Review 73:Great location within walking distance to the bus station, 7-11 shop and shopping center.
Review 74:I was surprised by this hotel as it was much better than I expected.. My first stay in Udon and the hotel was perfect.. Great location.. 15 min from the airport, 5 min walk to the bus station.. Central place shopping mall which is huge was 10 min walk away.. The hotel pool area is great and in the evening they have live music everynight until 10 o'clock.. If you walk around to the back of the hotel there is a night club called yellow bird which has live music until 2 o'clock.. If you fancy going to the day and night complex where most of the bars are it's about 10 min walk just past the mall I went there a few times and its got a good atmosphere and not to busy.. Overall I was very happy with my stay I would say the only tiny criticism I could make is the hotel is pretty dated but apart from that all good..
Review 75:None
Review 76:Friendly warm service. Great foods and entertainment. Rimnam Restaurant provides an uniqueness for local and international selections on the menu..
Review 77:Breakfast was sub standard for foreigners although thai menu was ok. The second day we went out to eat as even the coffee wasn't very nice.
Review 78:the locations and the pool.
Review 79:Bed was way too hard Loud noise from Disco downstairs Air-con toonoisy Says Airport pick up......... No! Only at certain times.Restaurants, says there are 3............. no! Only 2 (Mayfair &Yooiang are the same place & all the same food which is terribleBreakfast is not good & cold Housekeeping forgot to replace drinksbut didn't forget to charge me Bathroom was very dark. I owned TheAndaman Phuket Hotel & if I owned this place I would be ashamed, bloody terrible !!!!
Review 80:Plenty of parking
Review 81:Air conditioning noisy .Internet very slow .Bed to hard .Water in shower not hot a lot of times only warm .Room needs painting a lot of the air conditioning ducts are not clean and are dirty looking .
Review 82:Airport shuttle bus .the entertainment every night at the pool area .The relaxing atmosphere in the lobby .The friendly staff very good .House maids very good and very helpful too .
Review 83:I did not get to stay at the new building. The old was very old even it has been redone. The hotel is not crowded and I did not understand why did not I get to be in a new building. I could have rated the hotel better. The towel were old and the mattress was sagging which is hurting my back.
Review 84:I like the breakfast buffet, it was delicious and there are many to choose from.
Review 85:a touch up is needed but still worth the price. walk-in price was already 50% off the normal rate.
Review 86:its within walking distance yet nestled at the quiet side of the road. good price
Review 87:Rooms and general decoration are quite dated. All of the signs in the room telling you what not to do and how much it will cost you if you disobey. Quite a lot of mould in between the tiles in the bathroom.
Review 88:Great location Reasonable price Good service from staff Great water pressure from shower Comfortable bed
Review 89:Mosquitoes in the restaurant.
Review 90:The room was clean and comfortable. Although dated, everything you needed was there. The pool is clean and of a decent size. The beer garden (poolside) at night with live music was a bonus. Complementary pick-up and drop off at the airport was very useful. I would stay here again.
Review 91:Rooms require updating internet slow Water was dripping from extractor fan
Review 92:Friendly and helpful staff Attractive beer garden and restaurant Good breakfast Walking distance to the city
Review 93:Great value for money. Room was very comfortable . Breakfast was always a great start to our day. ALL of the staff were wonderful. Nothing short of first class.
Review 94:No issues with hotel
Review 95:Pick up from the airport was very nice . Good staff, friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable. Good breakfast. Perfect location close to shopping( Central Plaza) and transport, train station and bus station just around the corner.
Review 96:The bathrooms are dated and clean . Air conditioners a bit noisy .Tip: offer bth 300-500 per week for staff of the rooms, so you have room disinfected , to avoid the rare meeting with small insects in the bathroom , however, possible in Thailand .
Review 97:Solo traveler on business. I stayed for 20 days at this hotel , comfortable bedrooms and large. Wifii great, great restaurant although a bit too much Chinese folklore , good and rich breakfast ,300 meters from the center , great location. The laundry , timely and well done . Swimming underused and petite but with animation and bars. Excellent value for money with a medium-high comfort
Review 98:No big towels upon arrival. Room smelled of sex. Breakfast was so-so. Room was dirty, under the bed and behind the night stands hadn't been cleaned in ages. Internet was OK, however asking for login details way to often. Very noisy air conditioning. Noise from disco outside the hotel which closed at 2 am. Room in desperate need of upgrade.
Review 99:furnishings and fixtures in bathroom are a bit worn, no aircon in lobby, wifi was terrible (had to keep punching in usernames and password codes that kept expiring and once connected, it was very slow)
Review 100:location convenient to night markets and train station, nice big pool, large room, huge bed
Review 101:- old building and room - noisy sometime
Review 102:- great hospitality - excellent staff - transportation between airport and hotel is free - clean and cofort
Review 103:Food could be better, the chef can't cook a decent steak, both steaks & porky over cooked & like rubber..
Review 104:Good service, good staff, lifts need updating
Review 105:Everything was just so old and felt dirty. Also when checking out I went for breakfast while they checked the room when came back was told everything was OK but later realised I left a shoe and glasses case. When I rang they had found the shoe but no glasses case.
Review 106:Free shuttle service from the airport
Review 107:- poor internetsystem - we come to this place about twice a month (shopping) , Every time they make a whole copy of my passport ... they must have at least 50 full copy's now ...(or about 3-400 pages ..) . Can't they use a kind of "membership card" to avoid all this waste of paper (and damaging my passport)
Review 108:location is very good, a walk away from shopping centers & restaurants
Review 109:Need a better WIFI/Internet service!
Review 110:Facilities look too old
