Reviews for Chattanooga Choo Choo
Review 1:The staff was very friendly, and the hotel had many amenities. There was a free shuttle across the street that took us downtown to the Aquarium and many restaurants. There are many fun activities in Chattanooga for families.
Review 2:Wish they had more snack or light lunches. They are doing a remodel and will have more places in the future
Review 3:We had a great time. The staff is amazing and my teenagers loved the pools.
Review 4:Hotel building 3 needs to be updated, stains in the bathroom need to be removed and some maintenance in hallways to walls and floor coverings. I do not like the fact that you charge $7 for guest parking. That's just not right.
Review 5:Location. Beds very comfortable. And I liked the view of the outdoors pool from the room and the sound of the falls.
Review 6:Food was awful for breakfast, cost way too much to stay there. Not worth the value. And the staff was rude, had a guy from breakfast chase after me when I told him I didn't like the food. He literally followed me outside the building yelling. I will never stay there again.
Review 7:The train car room was pretty cool
Review 8:Our room wasn't the cleanest. There was mold in the bathroom. The bathroom tub area needs to be redone. We sneezed from the time we got there to the time we left. The hot tub was freezing!! We were looking forward to getting in it.?
Review 9:The staff is very friendly. Loved the old time feel of the place!
Review 10:The building was run down, my room was missing the desk, the wall paper was pealing off in my room, and the bed was uncomfortable. The entire hall smelled moldy and I would not recommend this hotel.
Review 11:Lack of amenities... No continental breakfast, no refrigerator, no microwave, broken hair dryer, and shortage of covers on the bed. Most discouraging is the rigid stance on the late check out. My wife and all of her friends were staying here to run the 7 bridges marathon in downtown Chattanooga and the Choo Choo would not allow half of them to have a late check out...forcing them to travel home sweaty and stinky. The ones who did get a "Late" check out were only allowed to have a 12pm checkout. To beat it all, the lady at the front desk acted like she was really doing us a favor with a 12 pm checkout. The holiday inn express just a few weeks before offered a 2 pm checkout for the last race. Just saying.
Review 12:Came with a group of runners for 7 Bridges Marathon. No amenities, sub par rooms (coffee pot and hair dryer didn't work). Staff was nothing special. The hotel wouldn't offer more than a noon check out. Tons of runners were complaining about this...not just our group of 5 rooms. Most hotels will give a 2pm check out at least for runners. We wouldn't stay again. And the hotel #3 looks like some kind of mid evil compound!
Review 13:I did not like the way they held an additional amount for the room even after the initial amount cleared. I also didnt like the limited selection of dining.
Review 14:I love the location and the ability to walk around the courtyard.we also loved the value in the depot.
Review 15:The tile in the bathroom floor was badly damaged. I wondered if the adjustment made on my final bill ever was credited to my Visa Card? The 2nd room lacked some of the features of the first.
Review 16:Never paid $182 per night for so few amenities. Not even a free breakfast buffet. Snacks in the vending machines were stale and crackers were even moldy. Ceiling of Bldg 2 leaked - dripping water on the center of the carpeted lobby. The pool by bldg 3 was under reno so the kids used the indoor pool - which looked like it was supposed to have a slide feature - but sadly it was removed? We stayed here about 15 years ago and it has definately lost some of its splendor..
Review 17:Nice grounds, very pretty. Breakfast buffet was very good. Easy to catch the public transport from here. Great for train enthusiasts or for anyone who enjoys the historic nature of the beautiful lobby.
Review 18:rooms needed updating. service was terrible. could not go inside the train car-caboose. breakfast was not very good. check in was terrible. had to wait 45 minutes to get in room because card would not work.
Review 19:excited to get my granddaughter's picture made in front of the train. wait staff in restaurant very good. manager was nice.
Review 20:Building 3 reminded me of the abandoned buildings around Chernobyl. Interior sported loose wallpaper, faucets that never shut off, 3 light bulbs for illumination, lack of furnishings, dry soap (no lather), coffee maker didn't work, curtain would not close allowing visitors to peer into room, and never heard back from management after reporting these complaints. Best described as primitive slum hoteling.
Review 21:Historic atmosphere.
Review 22:Outside pool was being remodeled , I would have loved to use it
Review 23:Comfortable bed, very interesting architecture, beautiful rosegarden, directly on free tram line, reasonable parking fee,
Review 24:long walk for breakfast, although you could call the desk and they would send a golf cart to pick you up, but we did that and the people who got to the lobby before we did pinched our golf cart
Review 25:unique property
Review 26:Needs to be updated and signage around the hotel clearly stated it was in the process of renovating.
Review 27:The hotel is right next to the free shuttle that goes downtown to the aquarium and shops. The service at checkin was great- it was raining and the clerk offered me an umbrella to use to get to my car.
Review 28:We we not told they were under renovation. Their was no evening dining and we were shuttle to Gulag 3. It wasn't much of a treat for my 83 year old mother. Very disappointed.
Review 29:The lobby was beautiful, the staff was pleasant and helpful, and the location was convenient to dining and shops.
Review 30:Definite musty odor in entire building. Was not connected to main building. Old sheets. Small tv. Broken drawer. Many hazards on walkways.
Review 31:View of pool. Spacious room.
Review 32:The hot tub jets did not work and water was not hot. The outdoor pool was so cold you couldnt get in it. The shops were closed at the hotel always it seemed. Our patio door would not open.
Review 33:We liked the location and renovation to lobby and bar.
Review 34:There was nothing I would have changed!
Review 35:It was a great distance from all the wonderful downtown activities in Chattanooga! The pool was excellent. I highly suggest the train car rooms.
Review 36:Not a bad experience. However it is a historic hotel so keep that in mind....
Review 37:This hotel was close to everything. Excellent resteraunts everywhere nearby.
Review 38:It seems to be under a sort of refurbishment.that is long past due. Hotel 3, by the sad(not very clean) outdoor pool had no baggage carts on check-out, The objections were too many to list about this hotel, but I do hope that the renovation works and the property is saved. It really must have been nice back in the day. Now it is just sad.
Review 39:The gardens and were nice. The children enjoyed seeing the trains, fish, gas lights at night and the horse drawn carriage. The golf cart driver was friendly.
Review 40:I expressed my want to stay in a boxcar and I was told to contact the front desk the next day to see if I could upgrade. I work for Westin hotels and I was a little taken back by that. I would think that the hotel would try and upgrade me as quickly as possible and contact me about my interest. Not have me contact them or at least offer up to contact me if an upgrade becomes available. Also I know the hotel is old and in need of repair and renovations are happening, I just think the repairs should have been done a long time ago.
Review 41:I've stayed here before, about 20 years ago and I loved the Victorian boxcars. However, there were none available when I made my reservation. I like the fact it was an old train station.
Review 42:there was no place to eat the night we got we had to eat at the pizza place and the pizza was bab very bad.then for breakfast the first day the place closed had to go out to eat.the second morning the place was open, food taste wormed over and we felt ver priced since we were hotel guest.sorry bu we felt it was a bad experince.
Review 43:Hotel rooms not clean A large spot on the rug of one of the rooms . Security guards stayed in the lobby not patrolling around the property and unsafe location
Review 44:The main building the train station The railroad cars were probably nice we didn't get to see one. I hope you will renovate the hotel roomS because it could be very nice place
Review 45:Buildings looks like old college dorms and smell very musty. Most everything was shut down due to renovations. Breakfast buffet was not that good and cost 9.99 plus your beverage... You end up spending at least 15.00 plus a tip and it wasn't that good at all. One pool was closed down, one was indoor and other one out side. Nevertheless they all needed some type of repairs, cleaning. We were there 4 nights and they never changed our sheets! Disappointed.
Review 46:The staff was very kind and friendly.
Review 47:Facilities in the hotel portion were dated and some areas lacked a/c. Bed and pillows were very uncomfortable. Have stayed in comparably priced hotels and had much nicer amenities.
Review 48:Staff was fantastic - very helpful and friendly. Location was convenient to downtown. Historical influences were interesting.
Review 49:Our highlight of our trip was to eat at the statehouse but after arriving we were told it was closed . We were very disappointedbecause we liked the food and loved the unique entertainment.
Review 50:The young man that registered me when we arrived he was so niceandhelpful
Review 51:-Beds were uncomfortable - no cups 4 coffee, no ice bucket, hallway hot n sticky. Elevator does not operate properly, (doors would close but not move).
Review 52:Everything was Great!!!
Review 53:I really enjoyed a restful sleep in the RailRoad car!!!It was exciting to experience how people traveled many years ago." Such Nostalgia" I am Truly Grateful!!!
Review 54:I was charged 50 dollars more than what you said the price was. Obviously not your fault. This is by far the worst hotel ive ever stayed in. Dirty...wall paper falling off the walls...etc. NOT a 200 dollar a night place
Review 55:Nothing at all
Review 56:The bed was the worse I have ever slept in - these cheap beds need to be replace. It is very important to have good mattresses. Based on this I cannot stay at the Choo Choo again.
Review 57:Location
Review 58:Pricing for the aging facility seems a little high. While the breakfast buffet was good, the price seemed a little high. I realize you are renovating, but if you can't afford to keep your existing facilities in good shape, maybe you've not thought this thru.
Review 59:Location and close proximity to electric shuttle.
Review 60:I felt like I was living in the 1970s. Very outdated and smelled funny in our building. Pool at building three was fun for kids but very dirty. I will not stay here again.
Review 61:The history and seeing the rail cars and station. I liked the location.
Review 62:The rooms are in the middle of renovation which is way overdue. The rooms were not real clean and even for a old historic hotel just neglected.
Review 63:The location was awesome.
Review 64:The one thing i didn't like was during our stay some areas were closed due to a major upgrade and renovation of the entire hotel, that being said I'm excited to go back and see the place after everything is completed. I cannot wait.
Review 65:I enjoyed every aspect of the hotel and my experience there, in my opinion if your traveling with a family with small children there is no where else to stay. The ouside had that old Americana vibe , that you should expect from a hotel that is an historic hotel like the choo choo is, but the inside of the room was modern, WiFi was great, beds were comfortable. Me and my family will never stay in any other hotel in Chatanooga other than the Chatanooga Choo Choo.
Review 66:The bathroom! The sink did not drain, the bottom of the tub was brown with stains!, and the shower curtain was filthy! We stayed in a train car and the heat in the room did not get below 80 until after 8pm!
Review 67:The room really needs updated. We stayed in hotel 1. There was no refrigerator so we had to pay 2.50$ for drinks. Then finally bought a cooler. The toilet seat was broken and slid every time we sat down.
Review 68:The historic features were great. Loved the indoor pool. The staff was nice and friendly.
Review 69:Given the expense of the room itself, it seems greedy to charge for parking and breakfast. Additionally, parking spaces are extremely far from the train car rooms.
Review 70:The hotel is a converted train station and has all the atmosphere of of an old time railroad station. They were going through a conversion in June 2015 which meant the restaurant was closed for breakfast. That was our only issue.
Review 71:I parked my car in the hotel car park for there days, when I drove out I had a puncture, I picked up a 4 inch nail. I was parked near where the renovations are taking place, the senior staff on reception had to be pressed HARD to do much to help , in the end they did and eventually told me where I could find a tyre depot but refused to accept any liability.
Review 72:The rooms other than train cars were way outdated and resembled a motel 6 room, plus there was no shower curtain and one of beds sheets had some type of brown mark, but gentleman at the front desk refunded 1/2 of the check for these issues, the place has great location and potential
Review 73:I like the entrance of the building whose history was a train station
Review 74:The rooms were really worn especially the baths. We paid a lot more than the stay was worth.
Review 75:Staff was nice and helpful. The dinner coach served great pizza.
Review 76:Nothing bad, just a lot of buildings off limits due to renovation. Can't wait to return after everything's redone!
Review 77:We had a late check-in and the desk clerk was just so accommodating. Each experience we had with employees was great.
Review 78:Guys & Gals, do yourselves a favor and don't stay at this hotel. It needs a major face lift. Bathrooms feel like a dirty gas station. Rooms are dated and old. Way too much money for what you get.
Review 79:Rooms and hallways are old and need updated. Could have been cleaner. Pool area and hot tub were nice but hot tub was lukewarm.
Review 80:I liked the historical aspect of hotel, decent size of rooms, pool area, proximity to rock city and mountain attractions.
Review 81:I have never had to pay for hotel parking before, and pay twice the amount that was available next door in a covered facility. The room had a musty smell and he bathroom had paint peeling off the ceiling.
Review 82:The staff were very goo, professional, and courteous, he golf cart rides to the various buildings was very helpful
Review 83:Beds were small, bathroom had moldy spots, the pool area had a smell, and the hot tub was very small, not very hot and jets weren't working. The whole place does need help.
Review 84:We stayed there 20 years ago for our honeymoon so we came back for nostalgic reasons. We did enjoy the restaurant next door (The Terminal) and the shops are nice.
Review 85:during the buffet breakfast the lights were turned off for renovations. we had to do a 'to go' breakfast, but were still charged full price.
Review 86:friendly staff, good location
Review 87:Mildew smell in the lobby, rusty and broken bathroom fixtures, old and dingy bath and bed linens, terrible soap, poor water pressure in shower, flaking painted surfaces and mold on shower curtain and tub caulking.
Review 88:Free WI-FI, quiet and good location.
Review 89:The bed was awful, mattress was worn out! There was no ice machine on our floor, had stuff on my feet from walking on the carpet (my husband wore socks), there was mildew in the shower, the water would turn scalding hot if the toilet in our room was flushed or if another room used water, and the toilet would move when you sat on it (was missing a bolt on one side). Also, didn't like being in the 3rd building, had to call for a gold cat to pick us up every time you wanted to go anywhere, even to restaurants on site, was too far just to walk to the lobby.
Review 90:The historic trains and train station were amazing to see. The staff was excellent, Helped you any way and with what ever you needed.
Review 91:the hotel is so so... a bed, a tv, that barely works and a bathroom. I would not chose this hotel again.
Review 92:The hotel is in a great location!! Minutes from downtown
Review 93:The bed was hard as a rock and small. Our room was right by the hall entrance and you can hear the door opening and slamming all night rattling our door in the process like someone was coming in. No sleep!
Review 94:Loved the location and hotel atmosphere , great for kids and staff were friendly and helpful! Pool was heated too
Review 95:Less than optimal up keep to items of normal wear and tear. Facility is under going 8 million dollar renovation. Once completed it will be a dream resort. Buffet breakfast was just acceptable...
Review 96:Loved the location...next door to free transportation to downtown area restaurants and attractions, Track 29. LOVED the gardens and architecture of the historical building. Every employee was friendly and helpful from housekeeping to reception...felt welcome and appreciated. Totally felt safe in this large downtown venue.
Review 97:Very old, not updated, musty, hotel far from check in. Stains in hallway carpet Fixtures old, furniture old, not real sure of cleanliness .
Review 98:Very convient to interstate & downtown Glad I got the rate I did. Gardens in back were very pretty
Review 99:It is a bit tired but the whole facility is being upgraded. Some review comments I think were too harsh.
Review 100:Rail car room was big and fun. Bed, wifi, details all fine. Part of the station complex, just where we wanted to be. As an overseas visitor, why would you stay anywhere else?
Review 101:Most bedrooms are in motel buildings some way from the entrance hall. Car parking and breakfast and breakfast beverage are extra.
Review 102:The station buildings are very impressive. Convenient situation. Good pub next door. Room comfortable.
Review 103:The nostalgic train ambience can't be rivaled anywhere. Unfortunately a strong mildew smell was in the elevator but not the rooms. The toilet was sitting at an odd angle. The Choo Choo has not been maintained well in the last few years. I believe that new money is being invested to remodel Bldg 2. Worth the price though.
Review 104:Room smelled of dog wee and we later found out that the carpet was drenched in the corner. Lights and sink didn't work and staff needed 2 requests to sort out lights. Staff on reception not competent to deal with problems. Hotel restaurants and shops closed due to very necessary renovation. Still waiting for call from manager about disgusting state of room.
Review 105:Old rundown, had plumbing problems.tried to overcharge us we went through booking.com. Very Disatified!!!
Review 106:Nothing about this stay . Problems from the min. We arrived. Do not consider this place!
Review 107:I understand that the hotel is going through a lot of renovations. Once the renovations are complete it will be a very great place to stay and well worth the cost. However, it certainly feels overpriced for its current state. The buffet breakfast cost $10/person plus the cost of drinks; it wasn't that great. I've had better free continental breakfasts.
Review 108:The location of the hotel is great. It is in walking or shuttle distance to a lot of downtown attractions. We enjoyed the indoor pool and the grounds were nice to walk around on with our dog.
Review 109:Wife went to a clinic today with flee bites. We walked through the hall where the show dogs were kept several times. I smelled the dogs in the hallway but had no idea we would come home with flees.
Review 110:Was near the bus.
Review 111:Charged various charges that were supposed "holds", but they went through my account, which wasn't ideal...just called my bank when we returned and it was taken care of.
Review 112:The trains, location, several good restaurants within walking distance, breakfast buffet.
Review 113:When we walked in, the guy at the desk was crabby and mean. He didn't seem happy that I had booked the room online and mentioned several times that I went through a "third party" booking. Why should that matter? There are several buildings and we were really far from the front desk. However, they have golf carts and someone will come bring you back and forth if you call. I also didn't like that they have a HUGE lot, but still charge $7 a day for parking.
Review 114:The hotel is old....you need to know this going into it. However, the front lobby is magnificent with high ceilings and a gorgeous dome. We did not stay in a train car, just a regular room and it was clean and neat. It's basically a motel. You are not in a luxury hotel and you get what you pay for. If you have kids, the grounds are awesome. There are real trains on the property you can go into and see and a garden area. One of the cars has a diner where you can get pizza. Only a few minute drive to Lookout Mountain and Aquarium.
Review 115:The location is not in the center of the action, but, really where else can it be? I rated it just "good" so that other folks would not think it was close to the other tourist areas. But as for me, the location was chosen many years ago!
Review 116:My five- and seven-year-old boys loved the train cars. Clearly worth the additional money. Loved the lovely breakfast facility.
Review 117:the long walk downtown, the beds, and the thermostat was brutal to get the room temp correct. Woke up with a sore throat because of the freezing temps. Bummer dude!
Review 118:I had a place to sleep...
Review 119:What i didn't like was that there wasn't a better coffee pot in the room.along with updated cable services. For those who enjoy watching AMC or other channels not available. Also the bed was springy and not as soft as you would think a king size bed should be. Given the historic feel of the hotel i understand that much may not be able tho change. Here are just some downersi experienced on my stay.
Review 120:I loved the history of the choo choo. The helpful staff was excellent.my experience was not horrible horrible. It was quite good. The location to all the attractions in Chattanooga was awesome. Along with the ability to ride the shuttle bus.
Review 121:Had one roach in a bathroom towel when got out of shower. Car needs some repairs. It will all be better when renovations complete.
Review 122:Feast historic location. Currently undergoing some needed renovations. We stayed in a railroad car which was really nice. Clean but really aged. Overall nice experience.
Review 123:The railcar accommodation was terrible! The bathroom tub was so discusting we did not shower in the morning. The cot was just springs sticking out, no extra blankets or pillows. We were 2 ladies travelling thus the need for the cot. Very noisy from adjoining room. Most disappointing but manager did give us some compensation.
Review 124:Location and history
Review 125:The bathroom floor felt weak and unstable. Phone in room did not work.
Review 126:Loved the style of the train care room. They are pet friendly so that was a huge plus. Great location.
Review 127:The hotel is a 1 star charging 3-4 star prices. Very outdated and run down. Do not be fooled by their website, this place is awful for what they charge.
Review 128:We have stayed here several times. The last couple of times we enjoyed the singing servers restaurant. I understand that this is being changed to a comedy club. will definitely impact whether I stay there any more. Why mess with a good thing.
Review 129:Heat not work in car 735 -- 58 degrees!! Moved to room 1012. Radio alarm in vacant adjacent room kept wife awake. Fruit in Gardens Restaurant beginning to ferment. Coffee carafes were all dirty on the outside. Ruined our combined birthdays and wedding anniversary. Restaurants were closed due to "renovations" requiring us to walk in dark to nearby venues. Had been wanting to sleep in railroad car since my last visit in the 80s but utterly disappointed.
Review 130:Location, railroad charm
Review 131:Main entrance is in poor shape, and the man at the front desk who checked us in projected no friendliness whatsoever. (We reserved two rooms for 4 people and a Service Dog for 2 nights.) The building we were assigned to was in poor condition and the elevator made loud, grinding noise. Beds had that "roll down into center" effect, the bathroom was in desperate need of a facelift, and the A/C & Heat unit was very noisey.
Review 132:Sorry not typing this over . Please reply or u will loose my business forever. Thank you for your time.
Review 133:I stay at your hotel several times a month. I called and ask girl at front desk if they would honor my rate I use every time or can even book through 3 party cheaper. My rate is usually 89 a night. She replied we are having a good weekend. No rates like that tonight even though she had plenty of rooms. U think she would take into consideration I was a long term quest. The hotel is under construction. I also was dropped off and 6 dollar parking charge was put on my bill. The elevators were not working the halls smell of hydrolic oil. My room was not clean sticker hanging off sliding door, dirty stained towels, shower curtain so short water poured in floor, shower rod was rusty and no screens on sinks which lets particals in water from old pipes. I stay there anyway, when I got my bill I was shocked. I think it's a bad practice to stick it to good old patrians that have supported u for years . I brought it to your staffs attention but they are to unprofessional to actually help. I am very upset with my stay and hope u see it the way I do. I know other hotels would love to have my money.
