Reviews for Mantra Samui Resort
Review 1:- Availability of sunbeds near the pool is really a problem, there are very few. In 10AM they are finished, so if you are not a early bird, then you could possibly miss the sun near the pool - Transfer is really expensive (you pay for 8-minute drive to the port or airport the same as you pay for 1 hour drive to airport in Moscow or Amsterdam). It's crazy that 5* hotel offers transfer for this price, when a smaller hotels on Phangan offer you a free shuttle service. I don't think that it is the way for such a hotel should make his margin. The same is for bikes. - For a 5* hotel and 250BT per bike per day (which costs 150BT on the street) you expect a little more than a pair VERY old bike with extremely tired helmet. Our first bike ignition was working very unstable. Asked for a change, no reaction. For 150BT you could find a brand new bike in Samui. I think that renting a bike is a part of overall service, and this wasn't ok. - Laundry is fast but AWFUL. Gave them some white shirts, got these shirts with yellow stains - Room 1026 "with a sea view" had a 60% of view from the balcony on trees right near the balcony - If you don't drive motorbike, don't think about visiting this hotel - it's really far from main road and taxi has crazy prices - The room isn't new at all, shelf was almost broken
Review 2:+ Truly fantastic view from the breakfast zone and pool + 5* star level of breakfast - really impressive choice and catering! + Lots of birds around, feels like you are in the jungle (that feel is rare on crowded Samui) + You could ask the reception for transfer or booking a tickets, or excursion and they will be glad to organize it quickly + Very stylish rooms, nice to stay
Review 3:Our stay was amazing. Our room was beautiful, and ofcourse the view too. The staff was polite and helping with all situations. The food was fantastic. We can't find the right words to describe our stay but we will deffinetly come back. You had our mind blown away!
Review 4:Thought the food in the restaurant was a bit on the expensive side and resulted that most people went out in the evenings to the local town which was much cheaper, however the quality in the hotel was very good
Review 5:Fantastic staff, location is beautiful but a little bit remote however the free shuttle bus was available until late in the evening to make getting around a bit easier.
Review 6:Liked the location and the view was magnificent. The room was not maintained very well and the spa on the deck not very private. The water pressure and temperature was cool.
Review 7:3 of the same Christmas carols played over and over again in the restaurants for a whole week after Christmas was completely unnecessary. Staff were extremely aggressive, especially during breakfast service and New Year celebrations. Twice we were made to wait an hour for scrambled eggs which then arrived as an omelette. When we asked for the chef to replace them with scrambled eggs, he simply chopped up the omelette and sent back to us. The property could do with a shut down/maintenance period as it is showing signs of real wear and tear.
Review 8:The view from the pool was special and the fitness facilities were well equipped. Some of the staff were lovely throughout our stay and it would have been nice if all of them provided the same level of service.
Review 9:The pillows are too soft, blanket is too warm for us. We were quite happy with the service overall. The only thing is that the reception service need to improve.
Review 10:We love the stunning ocean view and the daily breakfast is wonderful, the menu changes and the food is delicious, you won't get tired even for 5 days stay. Will be happy to go back again.
Review 11:It was difficult to get to and from things because of the location, however more shuttle buses would be better if they ran more frequently
Review 12:The pool area was beautiful and the rooms with the view were lovely
Review 13:far from the center of town but there are shuttles 4-5 times a day for free to chaweng roadand fish market
Review 14:view is amazing, cool pool, Tuk tuks inside the resort , spa and good food at the restaurant
Review 15:The room were terrible! We were looking for a romantic week away. We entered the room the fridge door cupboard wouldn't close, there was paint missing everywhere off the walls, grease marks all over the wall. Smallest tv, clumps of hair in the shower from previous stay, soap scum on the floor, jacuzzi didn't work, had one towel, had to pay transfers to and from airport and pay for taxi to get into town! For a Mantra name this wasn't great! We stayed in a place a lot cheaper in Phuket called the avista and it was amazing!
Review 16:The pool and view
Review 17:Hot water in the shower didn't work, the Internet didn't work staff where unhelpful with things that had gorn wrong. The food was horrible!
Review 18:Loved the pool.
Review 19:Location is pretty bad- approx 1km uphill from the main road. Immediate area isn't great, but there are 2 or 3 stores at the bottom of the hill. Definitely hire a car or scooter if you've experienced riding in Thailand before. Hotel's scooter rental is double the price of on the street below (300b vs. 150b) but you don't leave yourself without a passport or risk getting scammed for damage etc. We hired one for about 5 or 6 days, and had absolutely no issues extending each time, returning it was simple and fast.
Review 20:Sensational breakfast. Order off a menu, plus a buffet as well. Great espresso coffee as well, all included. Nice pool, very well equipped gym, including olympic bars and plates for bench, squat and deadlift which made my day! Staff very helpful, offering to run us up the hill in golf carts any time we arrived back. Wifi was a bit ropey. Switch between both networks if your connection slows up. Shuttle service is great. Cleaners would wait, often into mid afternoon to come and do our room, we never expected them to but it was fantastic.
Review 21:Nothing
Review 22:This was such a great getaway! The hotel is amazing and has so many great facilities. Perfect for a relaxed, tranquil holiday/part of your trip. You also get the best of both worlds because there's a free shuttle bus that takes you to and from a choice of 2 beaches!
Review 23:There's not much to dislike.
Review 24:The views! The staff, food at the restaurant, pool area, The shuttle service was excellent, Well maintained scooters to hire.
Review 25:In the official mantra website they say it is a beach resort. This isuntrue. This site is not suitable for certain people like with childrenand also elderly.
Review 26:The hotel is located far from everything, it is located on a mountain so there is a lot of climbing to the room
Review 27:There is a great view and the hotel is quite.
Review 28:There aren't enough shuttles to the beach and the last one is too early.
Review 29:Beautiful view of Bo Phut bay. The staff was very kind and helpful and the rooms are big, very comfortable and well equipped.
Review 30:The hotel is located in the hills a bit away from other amenities however the hotel offers a free shuttle service throughout the day.
Review 31:Rooms are lovely and well equipped, they are modern and very clean. The infinity pool is great with stunning views. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and made every effort to make sure our stay was an enjoyable one. Would highly recommend.
Review 32:The room is unconfortable and unfriendly. The room and the terace equipments are dirty.
Review 33:The view from the restaruant and from the pool is wonderful. Nice plants and garden.
Review 34:The toilet in the room has no real room, so there is no privacy at all.
Review 35:Breakfast was excellent (Warm thai dishes, fruits, egg dishes, pancakes, cakes, croissants, breads, juices etc)
Review 36:The shuttle service could be a little more frequent, and it stops at 10.30 pm. They didn't offer the free pick up from Na Thon Pier, and they offer it at 900 baht, which is very expensive compared to a taxi (500 baht, still too expensive for a 20 min drive).
Review 37:A 5 stars hotel, and more! Breakfast was out of this world, anything you may desire. There was an infinity pool you could use 24/7, gym and meditation area, sunbeds and a 24/7 bar & restaurant. Rooms were quiet, super comfy, all with a view, and very romantic. A golf cart is always available to drive you through the property, which extends across some hills. There's also a shuttle service that takes you 2-3 times a day to Chaweng and Bo Phut, and back. International calls in the room are always free of charge.
Review 38:The room had a few wear and tear marks but nothing major (e.g a botched paint job to hide something and sractches on the wall paper)
Review 39:We absolutely loved the breakfast and the staff service was always very good. The cooking was amazing and we ate in the restaurant and used room service too. We loved the pool and used the gym facilities once but it was nice that they were both open 24hours which added to the relaxing atmosphere. They also provided a good shuttle bus service to the two main areas to visit. I liked secluded setting and it felt romantic.
Review 40:The evening meals are quite poor, I was surprised as they breakfasts were very good. The pool isnt big enough. there are twenty or so sun loungers with no more than a leg space between them. Given the hotel probably holds 200+ people it surprises me that so little thought was given to designing adequate pool space. You are half way up a hill so theres no chance of just popping out to the 7-11 or to a restaurant. That said they do a transfer into town every 3hrs or so.
Review 41:The view is fantastic and the rooms were spacious and clean with great beds. Breakfast was very good. Staff are helpful and friendly and the golf buggy service to the rooms saves a tiring walk.
Review 42:When we arrived the initial greeting was very flat. The hotel lookedtatty and worn, especially considering it was a 5*. The photos are verygenerous. Our room had two sun beds that were dirty and ripped, and thejacuzzi and room in general looked very tatty. We did speak to themabout this and they moved us the next day.
Review 43:The pool was lovely overlooking the sea. The breakfast was deliciousand the staff in the restaurant and bar were very friendly. The gymwas very good and the shuttle bus was very useful. The room was largeand the bed was comfy. Overall we had a lovely stay but the hotel doesneed some tlc.
Review 44:This was the worst hotel we stayed at during our 4 week trip, mix tacky decor with rude staff and poor service and you get this place!!
Review 45:The view is the only good thing about this place and even that isn't amazing
Review 46:Room wasn't good. Shower temperature was uncontrollable, water pressure sometimes insufficient. We had a lower floor Love room and the water from the jaccuzzi of higher floors do spill down on our balcony and entrance.
Review 47:Relatively well-equipped gym. Better than the usual hotel gym but not at the standard of a commercial one. Has a barbell and weight plates, and racks for squates, pull-up and bench press. Shuttle services to Chawen and Fisherman's Village were convenient.
Review 48:There was a leak in our bathroom, the pool was very busy and not enough beds. It's far from the town, but there is a shuttle. There was only buffet once at dinner and really expensive.
Review 49:The private whirlpool with view on the sea. The beautiful pool.
Review 50:Brilliant breakfast. Staffs are so helpful and friendly. Location a little bit far away from town but got shuttle bus to fisherman valley and chaweng Beach.
Review 51:The main thing missing is the public areas. In fact there is no public space except a narrow strip near the pool
Review 52:The staff is very sympathetic Give a pleasant feeling Shuttles to beaches Were always timely
Review 53:If your idea of luxury is hiking up and down a hill to get anywhere, having diarrhoea every time you eat from the hotel and having an ant infestation in your room...this is the hotel for you. For the money we paid for a "love ocean room" with a spa bath (which didn't work for 2 of the 4 days we were there even though being ensured it was fixed), it wasn't worth half what we paid. The staff just stare at you at the reception and it's not until it gets to the point of being awkward that they offer to use the golf buggies to take you up the hill to the restaurant. TIP: make sure one of you sit facing forward as the golf buggies are close to tipping up of both sit on the back of these. Overall the score of 5 is based on the view...and that is it. Very let down as we'd booked this hotel to relax after travelling around Thailand and it was anything but. Stayed in much nice hotels for half the price.
Review 54:The view...and the pool
Review 55:Cannot find fault!
Review 56:We had the love room ocean view. Stunning. Cannot fault the room, clean, comfortable, huge! Comfy bed, fantastic view, great balcony with jacuzzi! Perfect! Pool is great although not a huge amount of sun beds but definitely manageable! View from here great. Staff were fantastic! Even the cleaning staff say hello on their way past. Did not meet one unhelpful or uncourteous member of staff during stay. Gym is great. Drinks and food fairly expensive (for us) but this was a birthday treat after backpacking for 5months so we aren't used to the inflated prices of a nice hotel. Even had a birthday cake brought out for my boyfriends birthday at breakfast! Free shuttle to town several times a day as nothing is in walking distance, but we didn't want to leave anyway!!
Review 57:Due to the isolation far from any shops the hotel fixes its own prices on basic commodities.
Review 58:Beautiful views, nice room, peace and quiet. Once you get used to the isolation the hotel is quite self contained and can be a great place to relax.
Review 59:Non, wish i could have stayed longer
Review 60:Very helpful and friendly staff, location is excellent if you prefer to be a bit await from the crowds, great view while enjoying a cocktail in the pool.
Review 61:Having to rely on the shuttle or taxis to get out and about.
Review 62:I liked the hotel, it was a bit far from the beach. Hotel could do with a bit of updating.
Review 63:Not close to the centre you need to get a bike or use the shuttle. But a good place to cut off.
Review 64:Beautiful hotel with lovely views. Room was clean. Pool area / restaurant were lovely.
Review 65:Location is far from city center and hard to get there Poor breakfast No blanket in bed - only sheets to be covered. Disappointing room This is defiantly not a 5 star hotel as Booking states We will not return these
Review 66:Nice friendly and helpful stuff Free shuttles to beaches and city center
Review 67:I had to leave
Review 68:The whole experience from start to finish was just perfect. The staff were fantastic and couldn't do enough, the view breath taking. You could tell that a lot of thought and care had gone into every aspect of the design, furnishing and decoration of the hotel with so many lovely little touches. I booked this as a treat to myself whilst backbacking, I needed some white fluffy towel comfort and I got so much more! I just wanted to stay forever to experience the other treats like the cinema, gorgeous gym, steam room and spa. The hotel is on the hillside with a shuttle to the beach which was great to be away from the noise and touristy parts.
Review 69:steep slope is a deter to move around. Quite a distance from beach
Review 70:Resort has nice view of beach & sea from hilltop. Gym & most facilities are opened till late nite. Buggies are easily available with just a phone call away.
Review 71:The quality of food was good in the restaurant. However the variety was less. Few Indian and Chinese food to be added as we were not comfortable with the continental food.
Review 72:Honeymoon trip. Wanted everything to be perfect. The resort was very neat and tidy, the staff was very caring, respective and friendly. The shuttle service and its timings were good Location was closer to airport and closer to market as well. Everything was just perfect.
Review 73:The wifi signal is very poor, only on the Terrace can receive the signal, you cannot accept spending most of the time to search the signal and easy to lose connection... Deducted from my credit card twice but no one tell me how to deal with on their own, just waiting for my ask,not feeling very good
Review 74:On the mountain, face to the beach, the view is so perfect! The design looks comfortable!
Review 75:We were in the Mantra for 4 nights with our two children (5 and 7). On the way to the hotel we thought: ״Oh No! - we came to a dump" but once entered into the hotel and had first introduction with its facilities we were amazed!! The hotel is located on a hill and has beautiful view on the sea and the island. The infinity pool merge with the view and is very intimate, so once you in it it feels like you merge with the island. We had two rooms with a connecting doors. The rooms are big and are in good maintenance, even though awe expected a little more preciseness with the details as this is considered a 5 stars / boutique hotel. The dinner dishes are very good and breakfast is sufficient. The hotel staff are very nice and accommodating. The hotel is located about 30 min drive from Chaweneg center. The hotel offers free shuttle in scheduled hours to and from Chaweneg and other near beaches with sufficient frequency. To summarize it all I would say that the Mantra is a great hotel and totally brings out the feeling of that beautiful island with high value to cost. One thing though- I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. If you are looking to be close to the beach or to the shopping center 24/7 then I recommend you to consider a hotel near in Chaweng or Lamai or renting a car (which i don't recommended in Samui).
Review 76:There is a lot of hills BUT the hotel always had golf buggys at the ready to cater for everyone...Another amazing service from the Mantra family.
Review 77:Everything...there wasn't much not to like!! The staff are friendly, the food is amazing, the rooms especially the 'cozy' rooms are huge! Had such a good time here and great value for money! Would definately recommend to anyone considering a nice place in Koh Samui!!

Review 117:View
Review 118:The food, staff, the view and our room. Everything was perfect!
Review 119:Quite far away from other parts of samui
Review 120:Everything was so friendly and genuine. A very relaxed stay.
Review 121:More shuttles to beach would be good
Review 122:Staff were amazing, food excellent and would recommend
Review 123:Why your funny dog does not have eyes?! some rooms need repainting. Breakfast must be better. If you want impressive views ask staff room in higher floor.
Review 124:Staff is very helpful. Impressive views. Everything was great. Nice pool
Review 125:I joined friends who were staying at mantra, and stayed for one night. In the morning the next day, my friends and I wanted to use the free hotel shuttle to go to chaweng beach. Because I had checked out one hour before, I was told I could not use the shuttle and would have to pay 600 baht for a private taxi and meet my friends there. Totally unbelievable and stupid policy's when you pay 3000 a night for a room, and another 10000 on food drinks and minibar the night before, you don't want to basically be told "we've taken your money and you've checked out, so please just get lost". That was the impression I got from the staff manager. Total let down to the end of my stay there. In the end my friends argued how absurd the policy was (they were still staying there) and I was able to travel in the shuttle. In the end, because of this, it went from being a 5 start service to a 1 star. I wouldn't stay there again either.
Review 126:Outstanding accommodation, friendly staff (except at the front desk), excellent food, good entertainment, excellent facilities.
Review 127:Cockroach in the room
Review 128:We really liked the service in the hotel, after spending 4 days in the centara where we had poor service it was a great end to our holiday by being treated so well by the staff. Thank you x
Review 129:There seemed to be an issue with blocked drains which resulted in some very unpleasant smells around the pool area. The wooden floors in our room were dreadfully scratched, making the room look quite tatty and neglected.
Review 130:All meals were of a really high standard and offered excellent value for money. The complementary breakfast each morning was outstanding - an excellent range of choices and some of the best pastries and danishes we've ever tasted. The dining room staff were very pleasant and efficient, and really helped to make each meal a pampered experience:)
Review 131:Only small things really- didn't like the wooden grate in the shower, if you're not careful it tips up and doesn't line up correctly under shower head. Rooms could do with ceiling fans as aircon was a bit too much to sleep with (noisy and got too cold during the night). Fly/insect screens on windows and doors would make for a pleasant sleep with the door open. Location can't be helped, but was a little further out of town than I would have liked. Very steep paths and access roads aren't very pleasant.
Review 132:Staff are very friendly, helpful and professional. Food is excellent credit to the chef and his team. Rooms and fascilities are clean and tidy. The grounds are beautifully maintained. Shuttle buses were regular and useful. Views are magnificent. Loved the pool! Free international phone calls was also appreciated.
Review 133:The shower was always on freezing cold and wouldn't warm up. The room service wasn't 24 hours as advertised. It was too far away from anywhere.
Review 134:The staff were really good and the views from the rooms were amazing!
