Reviews for Selcuklu Evi Cave Hotel - Special Category
Review 1:Nothing
Review 2:The hotel is well situated in Urgup - we enjoyed the great views. The staff are welcoming and friendly. The accommodation is of an excellent standard - we stayed in the cave suite which was beautifully restored. We enjoyed the 'rich' breakfasts every morning which included handmade 'gozleme' and omelettes prepared in front of guests in the dining room area.
Review 3:The hotel is located up a hill from Urğup town centre, which means that it is not ideal for those with mobility issues. However the climb was not too strenuous and there are cute stores located on the way.
Review 4:The breakfast buffet was lovely and the freshly made gözleme (Turkish pancake) was particularly delicious. The hotel was quiet and the staff were polite and helpful. The room (standard double) was clean, tastefully decorated and comfy with stairs that lead up to the bathroom.
Review 5:a bit far from Urgup, 15 min walking in a hill
Review 6:Mr Halil is a great host, he helped us to arrange the ballon ride, the tours and the transportation to the airport. the hotel is wonderful
Review 7:The overbearing nature of the owner. He would loudly say "How are you?" six times in 2 minutes. Also seemed too keen for us to buy carpets from the store next door......
Review 8:Quaint and nice cave hotel
Review 9:I checked in late and left early so didnt spend much time in the hotel but my room was spectacular. I was on my own but it was a massive room with everything you could wish for beautiful big bathroom, comfy bed, loads of beautiful Turkish rugs on the floor and all in a cave location! The dining setting was great as well although I didnt eat anything at the hotel. Tours could be easily arranged and the owners were super friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are planning to visit the Cappadocia area (they also arranged my airport transfer far more cheaply than my travel agent had!)
Review 10:lovely sunken garden for evenings and breakfast; helpful friendly staff and (as usual for Turkey) wonderful breakfast with tomato, cucumber and cheese, and traditional pancakes too. They offered us an upgrade from the Cave room to upstairs with a terrace. The Cave Room is small but keeps cool. The top rooms are spacious but the (excellent) air-con is needed to keep cool after all-day sun on the walls. We took the recommended ballooning trip: one hour which was great.
Review 11:Historical and much confortable acomodation. Beautiful and really calm place with excellent food and great service. I strongly recomend to everybody as the best place to rest after exploring Capadoccia.
Review 12:Nothing to dislike.
Review 13:We had a quite room with comfortable amenities. This is a tastefully restored cave hotel with beautiful garden courtyard. The staff are very friendly and the buffet breakfast and dinner are both delicious and generous. In-house gozleme made to order was memorable.
Review 14:They also own a travel agency and straight want to sell tours etc which was a bit annoying at the beginning but once said that we're not interested it was all ok
Review 15:Beautiful authentic cave hotel. Nice structure, in two different houses - a few minutes uphill is the second residence with all brand new suites and a nice garden!! Excellent breakfast (with freshly made Turkish pancakes etc) and beautiful large rooms
Review 16:Loved our stay here. Very clean and spacious. The garden area was lovely and the kids loved the resident tortoise. breakfast was fantastic and we loved the fresh gozlemes made on the spot. Great location to and dinner in the restaurant was great.
Review 17:The level of service we experienced here is something very rare, which invokes memories of an old world level of service. When we arrived, the owner was awaiting us outside upon our arrival. He greeted us by our first names and a handshake, got us quickly checked in, and then provided an quick orientation of the area. We quickly filled up our three days in Cappadocia with sightseeing, hot-air ballooning, a dervish show, and other must-see things in the area. The garden outside the reception is lovely, with flowers, partridges, a pet turtle that roams the area (which our three and seven year old sons loved), and a small dalmatian on a leash named 'Lucky'. The garden provides a calming sense of being in another place in time. The owner pointed out that he wanted us to feel as though being here, "we were in our own home", which we did. The rooms are A plus excellent. Everything was great, clean, comfortable, and worked. When dining for lunch, breakfast, or dinner, waiters were always around, unobtrusive, yet always noticing and anticipating your needs, and quick to get you something if you need it, a very rare thing in todays world. This reflects the care and high level of service expectation put into this place by the owner. No question I would rate this place with the highest marks possible and wouldn't think twice about recommending anyone to stay here.
Review 18:- Wifi was not working properly
Review 19:- Great design & outlook if you're looking for traditional places to stay in Cappadocia, which I believe is important. Place is not only built by classical material of the region, also furnitures are quite well fit to design and atmosphere - Employees were really helpful and kind
Review 20:Owners Halil and Brigette were so hospitable! Loved our oh-so-short stay at the Selckulu Evi. They organized our activities daily- balloon ride, hiking to see the ancient cave dwelling and churches. You can walk to the town which has a lot of restaurants and stores.
Review 21:location; nice set up; friendly staff who wants to help; great breakfast even for vegetarians as they clearly showed effort to accommodate us with good options
Review 22:The hotel itself was unique and outstanding. Of course, one could expect something out of the ordinary since you are going to Cappadocia, but this neat little hotel sets itself apart with the attention to detail.
Review 23:Keep in mind though that it isn't much of a cave, the walls are made of stone, but you're not actually entering a cave carved into the mountain if that's what you're looking for.
Review 24:Really nice, well decorated and comfortable room with everything you could ever want to have.
Review 25:We did see a couple of guest struggling with luggage with no staff in sight to help. A bit quick front desk service would be good
Review 26:... and I've stayed in quite a few! Elegantly decorated, lovely rooms, spacious sitting areas, nice shady garden, superb breakfast buffet, short walk (downhill!) into town (passed a lovely wine bar). We had room 134, right at the top but with a roof terrrace all to ourselves. Just fabulous.
Review 27:It was not a cave hotel in any sense and location is not as good as other hotels. Grumpy staff was not very helpful and tried to sell an airport shuttle at twice the price
Review 28:Really great breakfast and nice courtyard
Review 29:The hotelier, Halil, is assiduous in ensuring that guests have a wonderful time. The food is superb, and the local Turasan wine a welcome accompaniment. Tours were fantastic, and the cave apartments truly enjoyable. A memorable trip.
Review 30:The owner, Halil, is very attentive to your every need. The entire staff is friendly and helpful. The hotel is located on a hill just a five minute walk to the Centre where restaurant, shops and hammam can be found. Breakfast is delicious and fresh. Barbecue dinner was also tasty.garden suite room is extremely comfortable, with private garden and upstairs terrace and comfortable bed.
Review 31:Nothing.
Review 32:We liked everything. The Garden Suite was amazing. Very spacious and beautifully decorated. Our own garden was a big bonus. The owners, Mr. Halil Elalan and his wife Brigitte were very warm and hospitable. They helped out with our activities for the days we were there. The breakfast was superb and the Wifi was so good our sons were astounded. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Review 33:We had no shower in our room, only a bath. We were charged for drinking water when you can't drink the tap water and the heating came on at night so you woke up incredibly hot.
Review 34:The staff were wonderful, the owners, very welcoming and helpful. Beautiful rooms, not a bad location, had to walk a short distance to the centre but no problem.
Review 35:The hosts Halil and Bridgette were very friendly and very helpful in making arrangements for us. Our hotel room was delightful, the breakfasts and dinners were fabulous. A wonderful experience for us in Urgup.
Review 36:Staff's behaviours to street cats is unacceptable by me!
Review 37:Architecture is great. There is a lovely courtyard to have breakfast.Near to Urgup towncenter. King suit is good.
Review 38:Mr. Halil is not just the owner of the beautifully decorated place but a friendly host. He and his staff made us feel very welcome and gave us good advice on our visit to Cappadocia. We will definitively return for a second stay.
Review 39:The WiFi signal was not strong enough for us to use it in our room. We had to go to an extreme corner of the outside terrace to access the WiFi. But the was a minor inconvenience compared to how much we loved the hotel.
Review 40:The decor was absolutely beautiful. The bathroom was stunning. The staff was wonderful. The environment was peaceful and relaxing. The breakfast buffet was delicious, with an ample selection. This was the perfect location for us to explore Urgup and the rest of Capodoccia.
Review 41:Wifi was slow
Review 42:Staff were helpful, rooms were clean and beautifully decorated, breakfast was excellent with made to order omlettes and Gozleme/pancakes
Review 43:Below average breakfast. Omelette made with margarine. Coffee could be much better.
Review 44:Great location. Beautiful restoration. Cheerful greeting on arrival. Every room is authentic.
Review 45:Everything is excellent in this wonderful Hotel. The staff is very very friendly The position is very nice & comfortable (10 min walking from the down town of Urgup) Our room was like a dream The breakfast is very rich & generous. I LOVE SELCUKLU EVI CAVE HOTEL
Review 46:Poor WiFi in my room but ok in my friends.
Review 47:My room, a deluxe cave room was really comfortable and different. The furnishings were in keeping with the room. The breakfast was excellent with so much choice. We had dinner there also and again great choice and really good value. We booked trips from reception which was a bonus. The owner and his staff were really helpful and nothing was too much trouble. A great place to stay and Urgup is a good base for visiting Capadoccia. The balloon trip is not to be missed.
Review 48:We realized that we only had 2 full days in Capaddocia and had nothing booked. On arrival we met with the owner and he & his staff arranged a driver for us for two days and a balloon ride. We were very pleased with the personal service and felt that for the short time we were there, we experienced alot. Breakfast was included and it was superb. The hotel was very well located, just a short walk to the center of Urgup.
Review 49:Very good personal service from Mr Halil and his staff. Recommended good excursions and value for money. We were upgraded to a suite room at no extra costs. Lovely location, a homely environment with excellent breakfast spread and home-cooked meals for lunch and dinner.
Review 50:We did not receive the room we booked on arrival but that was rectified without any fuss.
Review 51:An enjoyable stay with very helpful staff and a personal introduction from Halil. Lovely views from the top balcony and great food and service during our stay. The hotel will organise tours and guides if needed.
Review 52:staff including owner pushes you to book everything from hotel itself...like sightseeing tours, balloon rides etc...if you don't their behaviour changes and its kind of rude or dry ! This is ghe only hotel in entire turkey i found unprofessional people :(
Review 53:Property is well maintained Breakfast spread is nice and elaborate
Review 54:nothing ( although we did suggest a swimming pool for the hot months #?)
Review 55:cosy rooms with comfy beds , quiet and peaceful with the most delicious authentic food , and wonderfully helpful and pleasing staff. Owner a great organizer for trips to suit: local knowledge#
Review 56:Sometime you will find flys in the cave room and you cannot drive them out of it...
Review 57:Urgup is a quite town comparing with Goreme in Cappadocia area but with same beautiful views. The interior decoration is quite exquisite and provides several cave rooms. You can book hot balloon and other tours in the hotel and the owner is very warm and helpful.
Review 58:Room bit far from main reception but acceptable
Review 59:Huge room with spa, excellent staff always ready to help. Owner goes beyond what you would expect anywhere.
Review 60:- It takes about 15 mins to walk to Urgup center - We met the owners who were having dinner there also and they were not very friendly with the animals in the hotel yard.
Review 61:- Excellent Turkish breakfast - Nice Turkish dinner options - If you have or rent a car, it is easy to drive away from Urgup to Göreme and etc. - The staff were very kind and nice.
Review 62:The hotel is a lovely stone building with rustic charm. The customer service could not be better and the restaurant is excellent. The rooms are spotless and tastefully decorated. All in all this place cannot be bettered.
Review 63:I booked our tours and balloon ride through the hotel. Balloon ride was fantastic. I would caution that if you are considering booking tours through the hotel, get the details of the group size/private tour in writing before arriving so that your expectations are correct.
Review 64:We had a really great deal on the booking.com website which almost seems unbelievable for a stay at this special hotel. The staff were very considerate and the hotel is decorated with such care. Eating dinner here is a must, the food is all " home cooked" and be sure to try the Turkish pancakes cooked on the spot by a lovely, smiling older lady. Will never forget this place!
Review 65:If I was forced to put a negative down it would be that there is no direct view on the city (but they can't change that) and it's restaurant could be better marketed, in my view the garden Reataurant is a hidden gem if only a few details would be updated they could run a super smart funky garden restaurant which now remained empty most of the time we were there. But don't be distracted by this, it's a great place and I would choose this again.
Review 66:The hotel has a fabulous atmosphere mainly due tot the beautifull and shady garden. Gives a fantastic quiet escape from the fierce sun. Really all you want/need is excellent. The owner and staff are super helpful and friendly as well as it's Reataurant serves good food
Review 67:The breakfast was not great. They charged extra for turkish coffee and the only other coffee available was terrible.
Review 68:Beautiful hotel, lovely garden, fantastic owners and staff, set just outside but easy walking distance into the village.
Review 69:In the interest of full disclosure, the rooms are made like caves but not carved out of cave. This is true for many "cave hotels". If you are making individual reservation then you may not get the value for money - a bit too pricey. It caters mostly to French tour groups and perhaps they get a good deal. Not all rooms are the same. The rooms in the Annex are nice but does not have the same ambience as in the main building. If you don't like cats, it may a bit creepy to have breakfast with cats at your feet.
Review 70:Locations is nice. Owners are decent people and staff are polite. A well maintained facility. You can order eggs at breakfast (your style) -- not just boiled eggs which is more common in other hotels in Turkey.
Review 71:The bathroom did not have a proper shower, just a rather weak pressure hand-held shower head. Such a shame as otherwise the bathroom was so well equipped.
Review 72:We stayed in one of the luxury cave rooms for two nights. Clean and comfortable with a terrace, although the terrace is shared with another room. Owner is very helpful, and outlines all the sightseeing options. We were able to plan our time much more effectively with his assistance. Urgup is a much nicer base to explore Cappadocia than nearby Goreme.
Review 73:The description of the honeymoon suite was misleading as the terraces and balconies referred to were not exclusive to the suite but shared with all other guests. There are a lot of unavoidable steps here as the hotel is built into a mountain, not good for someone with limited mobility.
Review 74:The style of the hotel was charming. The little garden was very peaceful and a great place to spend half an hour relaxing. Staff were professional and helpful. Breakfast was good, we particularly enjoyed the freshly cooked gozleme.
Review 75:This was such a delightful place. The staff were so welcoming, even though we arrived at 11.30pm. The room was very clean and large, and the airconditioning was excellent. Nothing like a sterile hotel room - this room had character! The breakfast was great and even included homemade gozleme, made by an Turkish lady in her own little cooking space. The hotel organised a balloon ride for us at a great price. We ate at the hotel for dinner and enjoyed a local stew made in a clay pot. We ate outside in the lovely courtyard. Overall, this was our favourite hotel of the whole holiday!
Review 76:Everything! The staff were amazing, room charming, the hotel grounds a magical retreat from the heat of Urgup. An authentic and pleasurable experience and I would definately go back. The personal touches made all the difference while the resident kittens and tortoise made for great fun for my 5 year old daughter.
Review 77:It was not really in a cave but had the feeling of it- not a big deal for us. The location of the hotel was not great but close to a good restaurant. We had a car, otherwise walking a bit to town center up/down hill.
Review 78:Comfortable beds and very friendly owner and helpful staff. Beautiful, authentic feeling of Turkish home hospitality. Breakfast was great. The hotel also serves dinner that looked good but we did not try it.
Review 79:I am not sure that restaurant is at the same level but with such a hot weather it does not matter excursion of a day was booked and nice but with a driver speaking not a word in english it was a pity
Review 80:rooms and hotel are incredible I think it is a bit expensive but definitely a perfect place (so I should even not settle it in this section) the experience of balloons is fabulous owners are very nice and helpful as well as the whole staff Jacuzzi is perfect...
Review 81:Location of the hotel is good and near to every attractions. Good and fresh food for breakfast and dinner. View from the rooms are excellent. Owner of the hotel Mr Halil is paying great attention to make visitors happy to stay in his hotel. He has great international experience and created unique hotel in the heart of Cappadocia.
Review 82:We had no problems/issues whatsoever.
Review 83:The staff were very accommodating and competent. We would definitely stay here again if in Urgup. Great experience!
Review 84:Air conditioning, darkness, could not shave properly in bathroom, creaky beds, cats in the courtyard.
Review 85:Outdoor Ambience, breakfast made to order, beautiful courtyard
Review 86:That we couldn't stay longer!
Review 87:Halil and his staff could not have been more welcoming and friendly. Our room was upgraded to the Kings's suite which was fabulous. The breakfast was very good and highly recommend the evening buffet. A very memorable stay.
Review 88:I don't think any thing bed . Because we are at off time

Review 106:Everything..... From the hospitality tithe food to the people.
Review 107:Breakfast pancakes weren't up to standard. Very chewy. We had much better ones in small street stslls.
Review 108:Quaint boutique hotel
Review 109:Shower was a bit smallish.
Review 110:A wonderful hidden gem of a place. Old world charm and comfort with awesome food.
Review 111:I loved the decor and friendliness of the host and concierge. Everyone was helpful and courteous. The food was great and the hotel spick and span.
