Reviews for The Empress Hotel
Review 1:Stayed on executive level but never saw anyone serving the tea & coffee which was meant to be on offer. Room was small for 4 of us.
Review 2:Pool was great for the older children. Beds comfortable. Room clean. Good shower. Good location. Staff always helpful. Breakfast very good.
Review 3:Price was outrageous!!! Manager was not very helpful in resolving a nyeproblem we encountered. Food was average. Location requires taking ataxi everywhere.
Review 4:Bed was comfortable
Review 5:Bathroom is a not small but you get what you paid for - it is not a 5 star hotel
Review 6:Staff are really friendly and make an effort to attend our request. Housekeeping is very good abs they came around super quick
Review 7:They could not accommodate us till almost 2 pm, though we came in at about 9:30 am.Had to kill time walking around that area, doing massage, having lunch, etc to pass time. Maybe, this was a peak season, that's why. Slow lift, can be made faster. Nobody to serve at the 17th floor special reading room and lounge.Guests on that floor had to always go to the lobby lounge.
Review 8:Nice, comfortable rooms, good house keeping service, spacious building, enough space to move around, cool location of hotel, away from the road, good spread for breakfst, etc
Review 9:Cleaning staff going through our personal items. Breakfast Buffet food quality not great.
Review 10:Room upgrade was nice. Good location. Older hotel but room had nice charm about it.
Review 11:Everything, it was 100 yard from the road so was quite, food, rooms, facilities and staff excellent. The owner was on site most days always checking and always approachable been 4 times and will be back next year. Exceptional value for money
Review 12:Stayed for 11 nights. When we opened the curtains we were greeted with a green, , sludgy water view. Asked for a room change - that didn't happen until 2-3 days before we left. At that stage it really wasn't worth changing. On the second last day we were given a discount card - bit late I think. Person who does bookings for tours, taxi etc did not have my confidence at all
Review 13:Some of the staff were OK.
Review 14:The lobby lounge band is so dated and blah. The French restaurant is under renovated. There's no bath in my 1607 room. It's so hot like in the oven in the afternoon.
Review 15:The massive properties with private alley and lovely Chinese restaurants. A foot massage by the pool and in your own room. Closed to everything from maya shopping centre to the night market. Great services at the coffee shop and housekeeper.
Review 16:The massage that was engaged by the hotel from outside. We arrange for massage in our room and majority of the masseurs were not professional enough. This will tarnish the Hotel reputation.
Review 17:The staff were all very warmth and helpful. My mum was sick during the stay and the staff were so helpful to arrange transport and staff to stay with us in the hospital to interpret and assist, I am very appreciative of their thoughtful action! The staff in the restaurant make us feel at home and manager's friendly approached, made us feel like someone we know very long ago ! Again, a BIG THANK YOU for all the staff in Empress Hotel. Happy New Year to all !
Review 18:Given a smoking room on the 15th floor and then downgraded when we asked to change. After complaining about being downgraded they offered another room on the 15th floor but the entire floor smelt of cigarettes. We travel extensively in Thailand and this hotel isn't worth thb 2,000 never mind the 4,000 we were charged. I use the booking.com rating system to make decisions on where to stay. I have no idea how this hotel has such a high rating.
Review 19:Staff were helpful
Review 20:We arrived late in the evening and were originally assigned to a smoking floor. (We were promptly and efficiently moved the next day to a non-smoking floor.)
Review 21:Very friendly, helpful, and abundant staff. Delicious, plentiful, and multi-choice buffet breakfast. Welcome gift bag with about U.S. $50 worth of chocolate, cookies, and juices. Lovely room. Nice restaurant.
Review 22:Staff... No service mind!!!There was a bit of problem a checkin. Coz there was another group tour, which only one staff managing their check-in. I saw the other staffs did not anything. So I asked on of them that only staff can do check-in and she said yes. That dissappointed me. While I was walking away, seem like she did change her mind and help complete my checkin. That make me feel better. However, the bad impression was actually during checkout. I did as for reciept since checkin time. The staff said I can pick up in the morning when I checkout. Seem like non of them prepared for the reciept and ask if I have requested earlier!!?!Even though I did explain, those 3-4 staffs didn't seem to follow. They asked if I provided all required document. I said I provided all that the staff at the checkin requested. I didn't how much they want I just gave what was asked. Finally they asked my to write down the address. After I gave them my address, they just told me that I didn't write my name!!!Exceuse me, you didn't ask and actually you can simply open your eyes and get my name from your system, right??? (I didn't say it out, just wrote my name and watch them slowly work on the reciept)Last thing, I needed to get to hotel van to the airport. I asked the bell service where the van will park. He said in front of the hotel. So I asked should I wait infront. He said I can wait inside. So I asked him, if he will call me if the van arrived. He didn't answer... just ignore me. So, I asked him that I should actively look for the van myself. and again..... he didn't answer. At the end, I do self service. I paid for the van 180THB for 2 persons. I think I can simply walk to street to get local driver... maybe only 100THB with a kind of aceptable service. If I pay less, then I wouldn't expect much.In my view, staff here really don't have service mind. Even though everything was comfortable during my stay. But with this kind of...
Review 23:Welcome drink, fruite plate, and New Year Gift
Review 24:The hotel itself is not within walking distance to the popular night markets, and that's about the only thing I will say against the hotel :) But taking a taxi getting around is not a problem at all.
Review 25:Excellent service provided to me and my family, starting from airport pickup on the day I arrived. As I booked a family suite and a Superior Double room they gave me a complimentary airport pickup and lots of other complimentary services/items. We were surprised at the extraordinary level of service provided. Ms. Bum (from the front desk), and Mr. Lam (hope I spelled his name correctly) from the restaurant took good care of us. Thank you Empress Hotel, we loved your service.
Review 26:I really had to search also so people know its real review, so the only thing I could find was water from showers gets on the floor a bit
Review 27:The staff was very helpful, all of them kind, we got room upgrade for all, we had snacks and fruits sent to room, the location was great, the rooms were great, treated so nicely and helpful, breakfast was awesome (we only had breakfast), and the WiFi worked very well, had a great view of the city from our room, so many positive things with this place including a welcome drink.
Review 28:Some staffs thought I am Chinese from China (I am actually Thai) and have shown a double-standard treatment. They tend to be very friendly toward the fellow Thai and caucasian but are extremely rude to the other Asian. Fitness and pool hours are very short!
Review 29:Location is good, bed is very comfortable and the room is clean.
Review 30:Housekeeping forgot to restock toiletries a couple of times, but we're very pleasant and quick to do when I called them
Review 31:Room was lovely, very clean and comfy bed, pleasure to relax in
Review 32:We had problems with our safe not locking properly but no valuables were taken.
Review 33:The location was good, the staff were wonderful & the room was top notch! We could see the Loy Kratong fireworks and lanterns in the sky, what a memorable stay! And the daily flowers in the room & water was very thoughtful.
Review 34:The mattress could be better. Probably a bit old
Review 35:A real boutique hotel. Staff went the extra mile in terms of service and complimentaries. We even got a nice complimentary dinner for six persons. Everybody was very attentative.
Review 36:A little too far for walking to the old city, but a short Tuk-Tuk ride.
Review 37:Very nice and spacious rooms, breakfast buffet with large variety, and as customers of booking.com we got a nice bag of chocolates and sweats. The swimming pool was also inviting.
Review 38:nothing what so ever and the fact we should have stayed longer much longer than 6 nts
Review 39:Simply everything was wonderful from the moment we were picked up at the Airport to the sad time we had to say goodbye. In the 40 years I have been traveling the world I dont think that I have ever stayed in a hotel where we were treated better without exception every single member of staff treated us like royalty and with total respect thank you especially to front office manager Supaporn Sompoh who made us feel like old friends returning the hotel and the very kind and indeed caring club floor lounge attendant miss Ampawan Tamubn ( Nine)who was always waiting for us to return each afternoon with the best coffee and little treats, again in the breakfast room the service was wonderful the free dinner we were given was truly world class we were given small gifts almost every day along with the huge bag sweets biscuits and soft drinks the old fashioned turn down service along with fresh towels in the bathroom and a rose on the pillow the room was spotlessly cleaned every single day along with great Wi Fi. This Was our first time at the Empress and it wont be our last top marks to the whole team and a huge thank you for making our stay so wonderful
Review 40:Gym was rubbish really, had to turn machines on myself...didn't open early neither did the pool.
Review 41:The staff were helpful and polite. The pool was great. The lovely welcome gifts were a delight. Rooms were large. Breakfast choice was good. Happy hour on drinks great.
Review 42:The wifi could be better as it dropped off at times. But that's about it. Everything else was perfect. Oh - maybe add muesli to the cereals please.
Review 43:The welcome and friendliness of the staff. Being given a wonderful complimentary meal and the ease of parking as we hired a car.
Review 44:the lady at the taxi counter constantly quoted us ridiculous prices for things and seemed quite scammy.
Review 45:Attention to detail, this hotel does everything to make you feel welcome we received a welcome package in our room a fruit plate and fresh flowers. We also received a free meal at the restaurant which was FANTASTIC!! Staff was very friendly and went above and beyond. Good breakfast with omelette bar and fresh waffles.
Review 46:We spent a week at The Empress hotel in July and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The rooms were large, very clean, with comfortable beds. We had interconnecting rooms and each had a welcome pack. We also enjoyed a free dinner with our stay. The staff were great, very pleasant and helpful. We would definitely stay here again if in Chiang Mai.
Review 47:Only that the tangerines were dry. My stay was too short to give a better evaluation - arrived just before dinner and left right after breakfast.
Review 48:The room was great. The welcome gifts of fruit basket and gorgeous flowers were excellent. It was definitely that when we had a chat with our friends at the lounge area (not sure if that what its called) we could enjoyed the generous gift of a drink, snack and chocolate. The waitresses were very attentive and friendly.
Review 49:The gym equipment needs to be thrown out and they need to start again.
Review 50:Because we booked 4 nights we were put into a nice large refurbished room which was much appreciated
Review 51:. Normal staff tend to be ok, Managers are bossy.. Tourist help desk is VERY expensive, you always get cheaper deals outside. . The hotel is very old. . This hotel does not cater for food for Muslims and vegetarian people. There is pork in almost every meal. . Pool is too small and closes very early. . Furniture is old. . Kids can easily lock themselves in the toilets due to the poor design of door locks. . Libby is dark and looks dead. .
Review 52:Location is good.
Review 53:The rooms look a bit outdated and some things in need of renovation. Wi-Fi was bad ... always crashing. Bathroom was a bit small.
Review 54:The rooms are clean and confortable. Breakfast was good. Nice swimming pool. Great welcome freebies.
Review 55:- Feeling old but good decoration.
Review 56:- Bed is very comfort. - There is a surprising all the time for we had stayed. ex. welcome drink with snack and gift before good night.
Review 57:Great staff, great location, great pool, great food. Could not speak more highly of this property, and no, I do not work for this hotel. My wife and I had 10 days at the Empress and were absolutely spoilt by the all the staff from housekeeping to the GM.
Review 58:For the amount we paid, this place worked great for us. The staff were kind and helpful. The room was clean and fairly comfortable. Pool was very nice as well. Breakfast was good, not great.
Review 59:there is absolutely nothing to dislike!!!
Review 60:we stayed here for five nights and could not fault this hotel!!!! Amazing experience! We were given a free snack pack the night of our arrival and free fruit and water in the room, at breakfast (which was amazing) on our first morning they gave us a gift, flowers were left on our pillows at night! Room: bed was comfy, shower hot, very clean, good air con, peaceful, good wifi Food: excellent breakfast buffet. They offered us a complementary dinner which we availed of our last night and it was lovely but the service is just what makes it!! They gave us free gifts throughout the meal and a special desert with bunch of flowers!!! Dinner included free drink also! Really made us feel special!!! Pool: v nice and quiet Location: walking distance to night market and we also walked to Sunday market!! But you can get tuks tuks for v cheap so its easy to get about anywhere! Tours: booked all our tours at the tour desk which was very reliable and convenient, staff helpful. We booked our transfer to the airport with them which was reliable!! Treated like royalty for a v reasonable price what bad could i have to say!!
Review 61:It would be good to do some renovation, and I would suggest to start from floor carpets :)
Review 62:Large comfortable room, city views, swimming pool, a lot of choices for your breakfast
Review 63:Leaving!
Review 64:Loved everything. The staff were always friendly and helpful, and hotel looks great. Used the pool and sauna everyday. The room had everything, and the view of chang mai from the room was amazing. Great location and awesome value.
Review 65:This is better hotel for package tours and large groups. I am too old for a backpackers place but this wasn't the answer . As a solo traveller , better to stay in the old town centre which is where I spent most of my time anyway.
Review 66:Swimming pool and gym . Fresh fruit in room and goodie bag on first night. Staff quite friendly but the ones by the pool need a reminder on customer service
Review 67:The pillows were uncomfortable and I woke up with a sore neck on several mornings
Review 68:I intend to stay there again when I return to Chiang Mai. The staff were very friendly and helpful The buffet breakfasts were amazing. They gave us a fantastic free complimentary dinner and made us feel most welcomed.
Review 69:We had a big problem with the taxi service which is located inside the hotel. We booked one for our early flight, but the taxi never show up! We paid up front 500thb.DO NOT USE THERE SERVICE,THERE DO NOT CARE! Is better to book a taxi via hotel service, price is the same. The hotel Staff drove us to the airport for free! Thank you very much for that:-)
Review 70:The service was top notch and the staff so very friendly. We loved the breakfast each morning as the selection of food was great
Review 71:Bed was a little hard for my tastes
Review 72:Really nice pool area with extra deck for tanning. Clean Comfortable rooms and huge selection at the buffet. Good location as is just close enough to everything.
Review 73:Only limited internet access to 5 hours, otherwise, this hotel would have scored a 10 for me.
Review 74:The rooms are clean, the bed comfortable, nice pool area, excellent friendly staff and great breakfast buffet.
Review 75:Wi-Fi connection very poor for my room at 12th floor
Review 76:Friendly staffs during check in n helpful staff to advise me when can I go around even she's off duty on her way home.., really appreciated
Review 77:Free WIFI that requires re-login after few minutes of inactivity
Review 78:Spacious room, bath tub, friendly staff, many compliments: souvenirs and a big bag of snacks on arrival day, full set dinner with delicious Thai dishes. They respect us as guest and treat us well.
Review 79:The location is not within the old city, however it will be good for those who want a peaceful sleep.
Review 80:Room although old is very well maintained and clean. Breakfast is great with many variety. Location is near to night bazaar.
Review 81:The twin beds were uncomfortable and needed new mattresses. Information about the many restaurants available should be amended to reflect the reality.
Review 82:Very pleasant and helpful staff in particular the dining/restaurant, and pool side staff, and tour advisors. Pleasant pool area, unfortunately water was too cold for me to swim! Our stay was around Lunar New Year and we were given an abundance of gifts of chocolates and biscuits, Thai whiskey with our one evening meal - thank you very much. Lovely touch of an orchid nightly when beds were turned down.
Review 83:Staff mostly friendly although when I arrived the front desk took a while to find my reservation and made clear their sceptism as to whether somebody arriving in a tuk tuk with a well-worn backpack should be staying with them. View from room was over a dingy pond punctuated by reinforced concrete piling. No WiFi in rooms, only in lobby which doesn't really cut it for a hotel in this bracket. To SE of walled city so a bit off the sightseeing trail. Patong-style bar with scantily-clad hostesses out front at end of hotel drive may not appeal to some travellers.
Review 84:First-class buffet breakfast. Fitness centre with weights, cardio, sauna and good sized pool; not at all busy. Decent sized room; extra touches such as welcome basket with fruit, chocolates etc. 10 minute walk from night market with shops, 7-11 and eateries nearby. Value for money.
Review 85:The hotel and the rooms feel a little outdated.
Review 86:The room was quite big and comfortable. Breakfast had a variety of western style food. We received a little present from the hotel (cookies, chocolate), which was very nice.
Review 87:Poor wifi that kept cutting out Tired and old decor that had not been touched in many years Breakfast and lunch buffet were really poor - low quality food, poor service
Review 88:Location
Review 89:The Free WIFI in the room needs a lot of improvement. Very hard to connect with iPads and very weak signal. Need more routers on each floor.
Review 90:The friendly staff was great.
Review 91:It is an excellent hotel. It is close the night bazzar and 3D art Musesum. The small noodle restaurant near to hotel is very delicious and convinient when you are hungray and want to catch up something to eat
Review 92:we stayed in Empress 4 days ,water could not drain out quickly in the bathroom, although it was repaired on the last day,but it should not happen in Empress !
Review 93:very good food !! very friendly staffs ! comfortable !
Review 96:The require passport to change forex despite records available at Front office. No passport .. no exchamge forex.. took to long to get an adapter for my laptop. 1hr++ and still no adaptor.
Review 97:I like the small things that the staffs do . Example.. box of biscuits, fruit basket and the service. Front office staffs borrowed an adaptor when Housekeeping couldnt get one.
Review 98:We missed breakfast !
Review 99:Only one short night stop , so we did not have chance to check the hotel facilities - even missed breakfast . Hotel seemed fine , would stay again
Review 100:The rooms were pretty old, well kept to a certain point, but bedsheets smelled over used and in need of change. The shower is badly thought out and everytime someone showered it totally flooded the bathroom (and I am pretty carefull with those things). WiFi was not so reliable, but okay. Breakfast was buffet type, it was okay, but nothing special. I guess for all the people they cater, it becomes difficult to give it a personal touch. They have a pool, but because it is in a "hole" it doesnt get much sun, so the water is freezing...it feels like you are squashed between the high rise, with no privacy (which you actually are), but its nice for a dip....
Review 101:The staff was very friendly, helpfull and filled us with realy nice gifts (Christmas season). They gave us a complimentry dinner which was VERY good. The location was very close (about 10min walking) to the night market, which was good in the evenings for dinner and to stroll around and shop. They have rooms with connecting doors, which I found very usefull for my kids.
Review 102:Everything else was just fair-they told me they upgraded me-which scared me to think what the downgrade would look like. Marks all over the walls, poor shower facilities-DONT GO IF YOUR A SENIOR-you will trip out of the shower
Review 103:pool and front foyer. One super great family was at the attraction booth (in lobby of hotel) JJ is the driver and he is awesome. The 2 sisters were great and so helpful with everything. They made the stay bearable.
Review 104:The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel had a nice, cosy Thai hospitality feel to it. The pool/gym/sauna facilities were great after a day of exploring
Review 105:Gym was very small and hot. Aircondition dont work there at all...Some machiness for run new, but cheap quality...Other from year 1985...too old for FOUR star hotel...Shoud make it new and than OK!
Review 106:Nice staff, so good take care and always smiling...Breakfast very good...Breakfast is a 4 star, but other hotel not...Rooms old and hotel is old...Good service, always before going to bed some housekeeping bring some roses and good night wishes..First night there was a chocolate too, and first day free fruits to room...Buffet lunch is also good, just 299baths for one person..Ok hotel, we will go back there sure..
Review 107:I didn't like the cold aircon in the lobby. Some staff on reception were abrupt. The selection of cable channels on television could improve and so could the breakfast buffet selection. The light on the wardrobe of my room couldn't be turned off
Review 108:I liked the decor of the room, the emotion band in the lounge and some of the staff. The bed was comfortable and the shower hot enough. Nice touches from all the room staff improved the experience.
Review 109:Quite a long walk from centre of town. The road we had on our first night (deluxe) was dirty and had horrible decor. Executive rooms are much better, and feel as if you are in a different hotel, however. Staff were also rude when we checked in, and hotel overpriced compared to other smaller, but much nicer places in chiang mai.
Review 110:Good breakfast. Nice swimming pool area. Great authentic Italian restaurant just next to hotel.
Review 111:Nothing, the hotel was better than expected.
Review 112:Location was great, access to attractions was excellent. Breakfast was good and thempool was relaxing at the end of the day.
Review 113:There is nothing I didn't like about this hotel
Review 114:This is the third time my wife and I have stayed at the Empress Hotel and we will stay there again. What we like most about the hotel, are the friendly staff who are always ready and willing to assist you at all times, with a smile. This is not a new hotel, but it is maintained and operated to a very high standard.
Review 115:The proximity of the hotel to the night market was too far away to walk. On the other hand, the location was ideal in that it was not crowded and noisey with shoppers.
Review 116:Was impressed with the service and facilities. The "goodie" bag you gave me was better than the other five star hotels and made me feel like a VIP. I will certainly recommend you to my friends and relatives.
Review 117:Location for one. Booked a executive room thinking it would be something special for the price. Totally dissapointed. No different than a superior room elsewhere at under half the price.
Review 118:Leaving .
Review 119:We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights and we loved it. Great value for your money. The price per night was very good. Clean. Big Rooms. Nice staff. Wifi is OK. Good location - quiet, 10 minutes walk to the night bazaar. We loved our breakfast - good selection and quality. We will definitely come back.
Review 120:The pool was being renovated so we were unable to use it most of the time and when we did it was noisy from power tools hammering and grinders and you were surrounded by workmen. We booked this hotel because of the pool so was very disappointed that we weren't advised of the renovations and pool closure as we would have gone elsewhere. One of the female managers on the front desk was a bit snooty and could be curt at times.
Review 121:Clean, bedding changed daily. A rose on our pillow each night was a nice touch. Beds while hard were comfy, welcome gifts, great free meal , good pillows and doona. Reception area lovely. Great breakfast daily. Good water in the shower, bathroom clean and good toiletries.
Review 122:Swimming pool under repair. Internet is very weak. TV has no movies to watch.
Review 123:Grand looking hotel with a nice lobby, easily accessible from the main road. Good quiet location. Yet only 10 mins walk to the busy night market. Breakfast has large variety.
Review 124:Can not think of anything we did not like.
Review 125:We thoroughly enjoyed our 6 night stay at the Empress. Staff were lovely very happy and pleased to help. Only negative was that the pool and area was being worked on so couldn't be used. We would recommend the Empress to anyone staying in Chiang Mai. Breakfast was wonderful.
Review 126:poor area is cinstruction cannot used in quite condition. the wifi is bad. we stay in 11/f and not always hv signal. the room not light enough.
Review 127:rooms size is gd. location is good. nearby is art gallary. night market can easily walk by.
Review 128:A little bit far from old city. Reasonable breakfast. Free wi-fi only in the lobby and with poor signal and speed. At the room you must pay to have an internet. It´s ridiculous novadays...
Review 129:Not much I didn't like to be honest aside from the wifi being poor enough
Review 130:Lovely building and lovely rooms. I liked the breakfast and the tour guides. Also down the road from the night market.
Review 131:the welcome gift, fruit and flower are sweet. the staff are friendly and speak good english. the location is near the night market. breakfast is good.
Review 132:Something must be done about an additional key. This means if one person is out later than the other person they are forced to wake them up. This was a serious flaw with staying at the Emporess.
Review 133:Enjoyed the location, the breakfasts, the staff and the facility. Had a great time here.
Review 134:Wifi only allows you to connect to one device at a time. This is a real issue when traveling and checking on bookings, tourist options etc
Review 135:Breakfast and pool
Review 136:The hotel is a bit old, chairs in the lobby are impossible to sit on.
Review 137:Nice staff, 10 min walk to night bazar, excellent breakfast. We were on our honeymoon and we received us a box of chocolates and a plate of fruits. We booked another night!
Review 138:Atrocious internet connection. Makes it impossible to work at times.
Review 139:A medium quality hotel. Breakfast quality was ok. I would stay again, handy location.
Review 140:Nothing. Everything was perfect!
Review 141:We loved EVERYTHING. Right from a quick check-in, a warm welcome, a lovely surprise on our bed, to the fantastic breakfast options, the dine-in options. Everything was perfect! The night market is literally a 5-7 minute walk from the hotel and the staff are very friendly and helpful when asked about Chiang Mai attractions. We had an absolutely superb stay. We have stayed at numerous 5 star hotels, but none of them can compare to our stay at The Empress Hotel. Keep up the good work, guys!
