Reviews for Red Mountain House

Review 1:There are no air conditioners in the rooms!! Only a very slow ceiling fan. It is summer and temperatures of 33 and 34 every day. The long life milk they left for the coffee would go sour in an hour - also there was no fridge! Could not breathe in the room and sleeping almost impossible.I left a day early due to this situation. Windows had to stay open to breathe and due to its position noise was very bad. Most disappointed.

Review 2:quaint rooms. nice bathroom facilities.

Review 3:Somehow a Jack Russell made its way outside our door early Sunday morning and would not stop barking at the birds. It was 5am, which is early enough to drive anyone insane!

Review 4:Violet is a true gem! The rooms are lovely, and the views terrific. Viots offers a yummy breakfast. Overall, excellent!

Review 5:we did not like being in the rooms at the front ( there was two couples ) the staff for restaurant below arrive early morning ,stand below the rooms chat & smoke, then you hear them putting tables outside ,also there are table on balcony ,the woman in room next to us sat right outside our room smoking ,I would advise anyone to book room at the back ,where its quiet .

Review 6:we liked the easy access to shops restaurants , rooms were clean ,staff friendly .

Review 7:Breakfast can be improved upon. Hot breakfast was overcooked and fruit salad had an onion flavor ( the probably used the onion knife and chopping board).

Review 8:The breakfast arrangement should be addressed, i.e. timeslot, billing, etc. in terms of a group booking. As a group of executives the breakfast arrangement definitely influence future bookings negatively.

Review 9:We had room no 5 which is facing the square and right next to the steel staircase that makes a lot of noise inside the unit. Rooms 1 - 4 I think is a better option than rooms 5 - 8.

Review 10:Location is brilliant.

Review 11:Red Mountain house in a prime position in Clarence, the accommodation was very comfortable, bath and shower, with heater in bathroom made a huge difference, walking distance to everything, lovely views off the balcony, heated flooring also a bonus if you go in winter like we did

Review 12:Please let us have more than one cup of coffee and one juice at breakfast without charging us separately.... "bottomless" coffee / tea and juice would be a great improvement!

Review 13:The staff were friendly, rooms were really nice (underfloor heating, fireplace), we had a great time. We will be returning!

Review 14:Restaurant where breakfast is served is dingy. Reception area and access to room is rather off-putting. So called balcony is a passageway providing access to room.

Review 15:Loved falling asleep listening to the wood fire. Violet seemed lovely but was not on duty when we arrived.

Review 16:Pillows were very floppy and flat. Noise from the hotel's restaurant patrons and kitchens below drift up to the rooms above.

Review 17:The rooms we had were spacious, the fireplace well prepared. The bathroom is generous. Thank you for the complimentary coffee and tea, port and chocolates.

Review 18:A little bit warm without air-con but the sealing fan helped a lot.

Review 19:Neat Clean Friendly Walking distance from shopping and leisure walking So nice to order Dom Pedro and other drinks from the restaurant down stairs to our room.

Review 20:Furnishings such as the shower door and front door blind a little tatty...also on being called to be told we'd left a phone charger (which we appreciated) they asked if we'd taken a blanket which was a little disappointing

Review 21:Lovely breakfast, amazing location and a great stay

Review 22:The key benefit for me was its ideal location next to the square in the heart of Clarens. The rooms are comfortable and modestly decorated. The staff are helpful and friendly.

Review 23:Staff went on strike !! Sign in register was a challenge. Some of the items like beverages in the room were set up for a single visitor. However,Management pulled off a coup by offering Breakfast at the Highland Restaurant

Review 24:The 'small touches'- lovely late afternoon view of Golden Gate, great mini brewer next door, very idyllic.

Review 25:Decoder and heater in bathroom not working. Noise from bar area downstairs. Arrived late from Johannesburg and was too dark to find the place and keys.

Review 26:Red Mountain House is centrally situated and within walking distance to everything. The breakfast is superb. Room clean, linen good quality, water, sherry, chocolates and tea/coffee provided. Heater in room.

Review 27:The loud staircase. Woke us up at night. The loud staff members waiting outside after their nightshift.

Review 28:The brewery is literally next door. Everything is in walking distance.

Review 29:Very noisy early in the mornings as I think we were above the restuarant (unit 4) - lots of banging which woke us up early.

Review 30:Underfloor heating, heater in the bathroom and a fireplace - we did not feel the freezing temperatures while in our room and were warm and comfortable throughout.

Review 31:Wash basin needs fixed soap dish in bath needs fixed no proper plug for hairdryer

Review 32:2

Review 33:A bit over rated and over priced for what it is

Review 34:Central location

Review 35:Room too hot and fan was ineffectual. Choice of breakfast venues not good.

Review 42:Great, central location, very relaxing stay

Review 43:Situated above a restaurant and pub. Very noisy if there are people getting drunk.

Review 44:Very friendly staff, room clean and comfortable.

Review 45:Being above a pub and restaurant it tended to be a little noisy.

Review 46:Great location and very clean and tidy. Happy, friendly staff.

Review 47:No problems

Review 48:The heated floor, fireplace, and giant tub were great!

Review 49:Breakfast served down the street ... Voucher system doesn't work

Review 50:Nice rooms ... Fireplace

Review 51:The Chairs in the room was not very comfortable.

Review 52:The fireplace is great.

Review 58:Breakfast, terrible you would have been better off with a Wimpy R39 budget breakfast

Review 59:Size of room and layout

Review 60:Rooms need additional lights

Review 61:Comfortable Loved the decor Great bathrooms!! Superb location Loved the sherry that was provided

Review 62:Fan noisy aircon would be good

Review 64:My hang-over the next morning!

Review 65:Good value for money. Great setting & views. Clean & comfortable. Friendly & fun.

Review 66:We liked the central location of the building and the restaurant.

Review 67:Bed was uncomfortable (hard)!

Review 68:Location, cleanliness, friendly and welcoming reception

Review 69:Position, very nice breakfast, friendly service and very comfortable accomodation

Review 70:Cold weather outside.....

Review 71:Under floor heating

Review 72:1st mornings breakfast was poor, scrambled eggs was dry, like it had been left in the oven for 1 hour , one 1/2 small tomato, two thin brown slices of toast and 2x rasher bacon that did not smell good ... the second days breakfast I had at another venue was better. the room and facilities was good...

Review 73:We arrived much later than expected, after reception had closed. Theydid however take the initiative to leave us with a note re our room andwhere to get the keys. The well equipped room and bathroom, fireplace, heating, sherry, comfortable bed and standard and cleanliness of beddingand furniture. The location, in the town center, was superb. The viewfrom the balcony is superb.

Review 74:I would have preferred a view overlooking the mountains. it is on top of a bar which could be noisy at times.

Review 75:Convenient location. We could walk everywhere in town even at night. Safe and secure.

Review 76:There was no bar fridge to keep any cold drinks or beer cool in. I think the guests staying at red mountain inn should get preference to supper at the restaurant we where told it was fully booked on the Saturday night. I would like to see dedicated parking at the back of the building for guests. Found the drinks prices especially wine very high at the downstairs pub.

Review 77:The location is very central and the room was great very clean and spacious.

Review 78:Our room faced the back courtyard, and the staff were quite noisy early in the morning

Review 79:Reception staff were great, room was nice and location was excellent

Review 80:I wish I had heard about the hotel and Clarens earlier.

Review 81:Beautiful walks close by and very convenient car parking. The area felt safe and we did not use our car between arrival and departure.

Review 82:We stayed in no 4. Horrible stench from dustbins below from the restaurant. Flies in abundance!!. Heat was terrible due to no air-con. The breakfast was very average.

Review 83:The hotel is situated right in the centre of this charming little town and we could walk to all the galleries. Enjoyed sitting outside and watching the world go by. Excellent pasta dishes served here.

Review 84:Nothing I can think of about from the extractor fan in bathroom that is somewhat noisy. All in all I cannot complain

Review 85:The service was excellent and very friendly staff. Location, facilities was much more that I expected. Will definitely stay again. Highly recommended

Review 86:Besides the duct tape quick fix on the shower cubicle frame and the noisy restaurant downstairs at times, both were tolerable and did not cause real issues.

Review 87:Comfortable, well appointed room and we will most certainly visit again!

Review 88:Very noisy - guests could be requested to consider the other clients when using the common property. Some of the soft furnishings like the bedspread and chairs were a bit tired and need replacing

Review 89:Excellent position in the centre of Clarens. The included breakfast at the restaurant across the park was excellent

Review 90:Our duvet cover was torn, give attention to how your towels are washed and cared for

Review 91:quietness,no children running around, nice view, central point, close to everything,

Review 92:The breakfast vouchers for Vito's restaurant: - The menu is very boring and VERY expensive. - The service was slow and my wife had to send her food back on two occasion because it was cold. - We went for supper at Vito's one night and my wife ordered her steak medium/rare. It was served blood raw on the inside! Disgusting! She sent it back. It was returned not cooked much more. - During the same session smoke from the kitchen filtered into the dining area. We complained just to be told the cook burnt something. Vito's is a big no no. A total rip off!

Review 93:Everything was in order and we fully enjoyed our stay!

Review 94:The house could have better toweling (bath sheet) We were in room 4 and if a tap was turned on elsewhere in the house it would make a screeching noise which was rather irritating.

Review 95:Loved the place will be back soon, but rather do self catering.

Review 96:Front entrance rooms very busy with traffic over long weekends but ifyou like crowds around you it is not that bad.

Review 97:Excellent location. First time visit to Clarens and could walk to allshops & restaurants. Try and book rooms facing back as it can becomebusy over long weekends with Vito restaurant in front downstairs fromrooms. Wonderful fireplace with wood ready every evening to start fireas well as lovely Port & chocolates. Excellent breakfast includedwhich you have downstairs in the Vito restsurant. Manager Andrew veryhelpful with suggesting restaurants etc. Will definitaly book again andrecommend to any couple.

Review 98:No complaints

Review 99:It delightfully warm and cosy in sub-zero temperatures. The comlimentarycherry was welcome. Friendly and efficient staff. Good restaurant.

Review 100:High prices of food and goods in geheral

Review 101:Cosy warmth of the room Near to all the the shops and restaurants View from the balcony Friendly and helpful staff at all shops and restaurants

Review 102:There was nothing that we did not like.

Review 103:Absolutely everything at and about the hotel is wonderful. It is well-situated on the square and provides easy access to the whole town without the need to drive. The staff are fantastic and extremely accommodating and friendly. We love it and will be back again and again!

Review 104:Chairs not very relaxing, sounds of knocks , bumps and rattling tap valves transmitted from elsewhere in building through structure.

Review 105:Clean, cozy, excellent finishes, stunning views

Review 106:We were made to feel welcome by the Manager (Andrew) and allocated a beautiful room with a functioning fireplace. The room was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. A lovely romantic outing for a week-end, or even longer. Thank you for a special time spent at your establishment.

Review 107:A loose towel rail and the shower door edging fell off. The office attended to it immediately! Very impressed.

Review 108:Everything was totally satisfactory, we will definitely return!!!

Review 109:There is nothing that we did not like but i would like to bring the following to your attention as possitive input. As per my note to Andrew the towels need some attention they seem to get stuffy after 1 use, but this can be due to washing method, etc nothing serious and easily rectafiable. This did not bugg us as we understand how domestics work and that it is a busy season but might bugg someone who's fussy, as the girls clean they do not lift the curtains and comforter thus the bottoms look dirty, and these are white so it shows easily.

Review 110:What is there not to like, must say it is perfectly located with a stunning view, Andrew and staff are very vriendly, Breakfast at Vito's is top quality. We had a great stay and will be back as soon as we possibly can. There is definitely not a better located accommodation than Red Mountain House. We loved the fact that it's got the relaxed admosphere of your own place but yet you still have the hotel feeling with bed and breakfast and someone cleaning the room for you. Overall a great experience and as i said we will be back! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Review 111:The only thing and this is a minor problem was that the bed was hard. We are used to a very soft bed.

Review 112:Its location was ideal. Right in the heart of Clarens. It was comfortable and spacious but cosy if need be for a winter night. Even though there was no-one at reception with our arrival everything was well organised and planned and we had no trouble checking in.

Review 113:Give the extractor fan in the bathroom a separate switch so that you do not wake your spouse when you need to use the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Review 114:Very friendly staff. Check In and Checkout was effortless and the included breakfast meal options were excellent. The fireplace in the room was very nice.

Review 115:It was just great, really surprised me, I was a bit apprehensive about booking for something I haven't seen. But I can strongly recommend the Red Mountain to any one.

Review 116:Stayed at the Red Mountain House for four days. Staff were brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. Lovely room with antique furniture. Fireplace and undertile heating, with the cold weather we experienced, was a bonus. Fire wood, Sherry, water were all complimentary. There is also tea/coffee making facilities provided. Our room was spacious and clean with a full en-suite bathroom. The hotel is situated right on the square and within walking distance to the whole village. All round a lovely little hotel and we'll definitely be back!

Review 117:The room we had did not have a view - and the reason I went to Clarenswas so that I could relax with a view... The pictures seemed to suggestthat there was a view from a bedroom balcony - perhaps the bookingcould be more specific as to whether you had a private balcony and ifit had a view. The bath mat was filthy. The room was cold.

Review 118:The 4-poster! :) The heater in the bathroom.

Review 119:During our stay it was uncomfortably hot and humid, very unusalaccording to the local people, air conditioning might be asking for toomuch but a fridge in the room would have been very welcome.

Review 120:Prime position, everything within walkin distance.

Review 121:The restaurant down stairs, Vito's, where great. The room was stunning and location excellent. We have NO complaints and had a lovely stay.

Review 122:Narrow stair case - difficult to carry suit cases up and down.

Review 123:Well situated, comfortable, clean spacey rooms.

Review 124:Breakfast is out side poor restaurant.

Review 125:Nice view from the front of room door.

Review 126:Great location
