Reviews for Amora Thapae Hotel Chiang Mai

Review 1:Superior rooms are filthy and shabby no where near 4 star standard - mould covers bathroom, paint work filthy, windows have never been cleaned, stains on carpet etc. So run down they are barely 2 star standard. They have not been refurbished for over 10 years - reception confirmed that when i complained about state of the room and they showed no interest in resolving the issue until I demanded refund and told them to check me out immediately. Then they came up with a Deluxe room which has been refurbished in last 2-3 years but bathroon still had mould and I'd say stilll only came up to a minimal standard you'd expect, definately not Deluxe. Stay at this hotel only if you get magic rate, there are far better options available all over Chiang Mai.

Review 2:Location is excellent

Review 3:Hotel is showing signs of its age now and the swimming pool on the 2nd floor was ice cold.

Review 4:The Amora is situated right in the heart of Chiang Mai. We found the hotel to have sufficient parking and were greeted by staff in the car parking area to take care of our baggage. Our room was of adequate size and equipped with everything 1 would need for a short city break. We did notice a little bit of wear and tare here and there that did not really bother us but I suppose you get what you pay for these days. Beds are deep and very comfortable and we had no trouble sleeping in this hotel. The air conditioning was a little dated and quite noisy but we didn't really use it at night. May cause a few problems for you lite sleepers out there. We can't comment on the evening restaurant as we were eating out in the evening but the breakfast was found to be adequate and with a good choice of western and Asian food on offer. Overall, we would say a good choice of hotel for a short city break.

Review 5:Bed so hard, guaranteed to hurt your back! Staff have no idea what they're doing which would be fine if you weren't paying so much for the hotel. E.g. Can't help you with taxis or to give an estimate of how much a taxi should cost. Breakfast is pretty average which again would be fine if it was a cheap hotel.

Review 6:Lovely Comfy big room with coffee & tea facilities. Central location. No negatives. Didn't have breakfast option as plenty of places close by.

Review 7:Some of the carpet seems to need a bit of work to improve on the floor.

Review 8:The location is perfect. Easy to go everywhere, also it could avoid all the crowds inside the cities. The staff is very friendly. Of course will recommend it to others.

Review 9:The staff, in particular the reception staff were awful. Laughed in my face when asking serious questions. Very rude and unhelpful. Awful shower and uncomfy bed and a door leading into another guests room which wasn't able to be locked which felt unsafe.

Review 10:Close to amenities, clean and looks nice from the outside. The view was also overlooking some of the city and some the mountains.

Review 11:The Hotel is in need of a 'refresh'. An example is that our safe work but often we couldn't open it. We had to get assistance from the main desk and if sometimes took a few attempts to open.

Review 12:Location was good and the staff quite friendly and helpful.

Review 13:the mattress was one of the hardest I have ever felt. Like sleeping on stone, was tempted to sleep in the bath

Review 14:Great location, 10mins walk to the night markets, close to main city gate, and 20mins taxi from airport. Plenty of places to eat nearby

Review 15:This is a nice hotel in a great area. We were very pleased with the stay. The bellman, especially, were extremely courteous and helpful. Lobby is beautiful. Price was right for the accommodation.

Review 16:They sent us to a different (lower level) hotel for the 1st night. They asked us to check-out 1 night before because they said they can't find our reservation.

Review 17:Bed too hard, bathroom need scrub.

Review 18:The wifi is nt working and called the stuff and they r helpful. Location is good as can acess to the wall and night bazaar easily. Breakfast has many choice.

Review 19:Few lady boys on the corner of hotel plying their trade but only from 2am to 6am So if your not in an out of the hotel at that time then won't bother you

Review 20:Hotel is great treated like a king Makes urgently stay in the presidential or ambassador sweet on 12th floor for as little as £40. A night Service from staff is second to none rooms are beautifull pool an fitness room spot on price of room service is spot on steak an chips £4 reception area of hotel is second to none and it's litrealy the perfect location in chiang Mai to be! Can't fault this place wil be coming back for a lot longer next time

Review 21:The facility was below expectations. Kind of old hotel! I have to pay in full with credit card upon checking! They don't accepted it as guarantee! The checking staff show you mineral water bottles AT THE CHECK IN and tell you only one bottle is free! Who do you think we are?!!

Review 22:Location is great! walking distance to all amenities!

Review 23:Where to start? Stayed here 5 years ago and it was very good 1. Wifi in room slow to not working at all 2. Breakfast some of the food uncooked and had lots of mosquiteos in the restaurant 3. Lounge bar the cakes for sale were cover in flies and mosquitoes and the menus were held together with tape 4. The hotel is now mainly for Asian tourists 5. Many of the staff have very poor English. 6. The pool was very cold and as pigeons where drinking from it - it points to it not being chlorinated 7. I had a serious problem and tried to speak with the manager - she was never available. In the end the night manager spoke to me - not very good as he spoke hardly any English. 8. We left two days early - I did at least get a refund. Very sad as I love Chiang Mai and this was a special trip

Review 24:Great Location Lots of Parking Nice Bedroom Bathroom ok

Review 25:WIFI - impossible to use, required to carry out my work but it was so bad I cancelled my stay and the staff seemed unable to resolve the problem. Booking.Com attempted to negotiate a refund on the cancelled nights but the hotel would not agree to waive the fee. I would not recommend this hotel

Review 26:Location - close to the old city

Review 27:Breakfast just okay but typical for Thai.. and about 75% of guests are Chinese tour groups a little bit loud and obnoxious.. Other than that it's one of the best places to stay in all of Thai.

Review 28:No better location in CM.. Very pleasant and helpful staff. So comfortable and friendly I have stayed here 3-4 times and this was my BEST stay.. Suite rooms have best view for Songkran or any special occasion. GREAT PLACE!!!

Review 29:Bed hard as a rock. Room very dirty and dark. No towels in room. Wifi didn't work. Power went out 4 times in the 2 days we were there. Breakfast was awful.

Review 30:Good location.

Review 31:Walls in the rooms are very thin, you can hear next doors shower and when people are walking down the hall you can hear every word they say - not a major issue as it didn't interfere with our trip but it was slightly irritating.

Review 32:The hotel is lovely from the outside and the reception area, restaurant and bar are all very clean and makes the hotel look quite posh and expensive.Staff everywhere in the hotel was really friendly always saying hello and smiling and doing anything you needed them to, for example, we had a broken fan from the air conditioner from outside plonked in the middle of our room when we checked in but we was moved to a different room straight away no problem.Breakfast was varied, there was a lot of fruit, the usual breakfast foods like sausages ect. you could get an omelette made with whatever you wanted in it and there was also noodles and soup as well.Although we didn't use the spa faculties it was nice that they were available, you have to walk past the spa to get to the outdoor pool and it looked really nice.Used the pool only once late in the day and the water was freezing so we only spent about 10 minutes out there, can't comment much on it, it was clean and it would of been really nice in the day when it's really hot.We had a trip booked for one of the days we were there - we had a hand written note from reception the night before reminding us what time we were being picked up and then we got a phone call in the morning to remind us again which I thought was a nice touch and really good customer service considering we didn't book the trip through the hotel.Rooms were nice enough, not up to the standard of the reception but it had everything you need - air con is amazing after a day in the hot sun!Location of the hotel is really good! The Sunday night market is a 2 minute walk down the road - we were lucky enough to be in Chiang Mai on a Sunday - it's worth a visit, there are more hand made goods than at the big walking street market that's on every night about a 15 minute walk from the hotel. There are loads of food places near the hotel, tuk tuks and taxis are always right outside.

Review 33:massage at the spa is overpriced at not very good.

Review 34:I asked for bacon at breakfast and for the rest of a lengthy stay the chefs on the eggs section anticipated our needs, and gave us excellent service. We have stayed here before and it would seem that some seriously good customer service training has been provided since our last stay.

Review 35:Carpets old and dirty Bathroom had mould on tiles-walls need painting, air on noisy, cobwebs everywhere, furniture tatty, Hotel generally noisy, reception staff unfriendly and English not good.

Review 36:The location,

Review 37:I didn't like the toilet. It can't work well. we have to flush and hold the handle until the mess gone.

Review 38:I like everything eg. the room no. 1004, view, service, staff and the location.

Review 39:I've choose this hotel for free wifi, gym BUT in fact: 1) Wi-Fi didn't work like 90% of the time 2) very cold and smelly water in the pool - no chance to swim 3) GYM is just 1 treadmill and 1 broken machine So, I didn't what I expected.

Review 40:Generally hotel is ok, location is perfect and the view from high floor is great.

Review 41:Room was clean but in our room, the toilet needed a bit more cleaning at the back of the seat.

Review 42:Loved the gentle ambience of hotel. Staff were friendly, courteous and helpful. The location - faces on to the moat and therefore is near all the historical parts of the old city and local market. Also near the Night Market but far enough away to miss the night noise!

Review 43:The front lobby of the hotel is very nice but the rooms are outdated. It is clean, nice comfortable bed and nice view. Buffet breakfast was ok, but could be improved.

Review 44:Good location, right in front of the Thapae Gate where a night bazaar takes place on Saturday night. Lots of restaurants on the strip and convenient location to rent a motorbikes. Starbucks, ATM and currency exchange are all less than a minute walk.

Review 45:this hotel should not be offering free wifi in rooms if it can't provide an adequate service. As a business traveler wifi is a neccesaty in my room. Sending an email was near on impossible, I thought it may have been down to the amount of users but sadly even at 3am it was the same

Review 46:The rooms need a bit of a "face lift".

Review 47:I really liked the location. The staff allowed us to check in early and were very friendly. Overall, this hotel is great value for the money.

Review 48:When the guest ask the hotel to fix the wifi connection problem and gets no reply after 2 days you know they don't care.

Review 49:Free parking and the location is downtown.

Review 50:Rooms walls are paper thin. You could join in the conversation with the room next door,if you wished ! You could hear their TV,them making a cup of tea and useing the bathroom. If you stay at the front of the hotel you have a nice view of the city and mountains but if you dont use the noisy aircon in the cool season there is a lot of traffic noise, till after 1am,as you are on a main road. Free wifi and internet....never worked during our stay.

Review 51:Good location just a few minutes walk from Thapae Gate and the old city, with plenty to see. Lobby area is very nice.

Review 52:1. Never return my email for special request 2. Room service food not great 3. No greeting upon arrival at the hotel 4. Room safe was not working, and not repairable

Review 53:1. Location is great 2. Staff friendly, efficient and willing to help 3. Facility well maintained 4. Breakfast variety is good

Review 54:Big hotel, large rooms, good view from windows. Also location is very good to night attractions and daily temples visit. Everything is reachable by foot. Good choice of breakfast.

Review 55:Outdated rooms with bad baths or black lines in the bathroom. Printing our boardingpasses was 10 baht. Not much, but doing that for free would be a nice service

Review 56:Location Breakfast Wifi Spacious room

Review 57:Nothing

Review 58:We enjoy our holiday The spa was very good and clean also the laundry was very efficent a good place for visit and do activites enjoy your trip

Review 59:The beds are so hard. Only complaint.

Review 60:location and proximity to all you need great shopping all around from pharmacy to geko books.Fabulous for Sunday, all day.

Review 61:Customer service was lacking in the hotel, food was not so great and the rooms were outdated ( even the superior rooms).

Review 62:Great location and close to old city

Review 63:it took 30min for the reception staff to find my booking at booking.com

Review 64:right in front of Thapae Gate, very central location, good spacious room with bath, nice swimming pool area and 5 min free massage

Review 65:insufficient room management system (Front may not easily find out the suitable clean-up room, so that, check-in procedure is not smooth).

Review 66:My need (mainly: clean room, bothtub, coffee-maker, big-sigle-bed) can be fulfilled.

Review 67:Because is easy to go out.

Review 68:Only stayed one night. But it seemed good. Room was nice and clean. Breakfast was good. I would stay here again.
