Reviews for Grand Hotel Cape May
Review 1:Parts of the hotel are starting to show their age, albeit in good style.
Review 2:Lovely indoor pool and hot spa. Very welcome after a cold day birding on the Lewes - Cape May Ferry and at Cape May. Very comfortable and well appointed room. This was an off-season visit so the room rate was very reasonable.
Review 3:The person who was one floor up above stomping till 3 am waking me up on and off.
Review 4:Room was great also close to beach and the Washington mall. Also the resteraunt bar was also nice.
Review 5:I did not like the fact that I paid for a room for two nights and had no place to park. With the OK from the general manager I had to park my vehicle in a no parking area.
Review 6:Staff was very nice, and very helpful, Restaurant was nice , Food was very good, but pricey.
Review 7:Excellent! No problem at all at check in. Townhouse was clean, newly upgraded, and beautiful view of ocean! Staff was friendly and helpful. Buffet breakfast was delicious. (Especially the Danish!). The entire group loved the comfy beds - even the pullout was comfortable. Everything worked. Plenty of hot water for showers. Easy to regulate room temperature as well. The disco was fun! No cover charge - and the Dj played all of our requests. Nice size glass of wine for $8. Sorry to say we did not use the pool or jacuzzi. But they looked beautifully inviting as well. We will be back again for sure!! Oh, and so easy to book from your site. Will definitely be using again!!
Review 8:Parking was an issue. The parking spots around the pool were given to the rooms facing them, however, they were not reserved and due to a busy nightclub and morning family brunch, they were never available.Room parking should be reserved. Who wants to lug suitcases a block to park on the street?
Review 9:Friendly staff, but being pulled in all directions making them harried. The weekend before Christmas in Cape May, with many weddings and family events, is always busy. There should have been more people working.
Review 10:Bit of a misunderstanding at check-in about the room we booked but resolved without too much hassle.
Review 11:Great room, kitchenette, comfortable beds, good shower.
Review 12:Lights didnt work properly in room, told the front desk and they blew it off & no free breakfast like most hotel chains! Couldnt control the temp in room!
Review 13:Lication location location right across the street from the beach & rooms were very clean!
Review 14:We were put in a room where condos are housed above the rooms. The individuals in this particular condo moved furniture across the floor until 1030 pm and resumed at 0500 am We thought it was a ball room above us at first because of the noise.
Review 15:Mostly the experience was great
Review 16:The pool could of been warmer.
Review 17:The hot tub and the pool. I like the closeness of the Hotel. My wife and I live close by and can take a day or two. And not to worry about family that we are helping to take care of.
Review 18:The room itself had an issue with the heat. It was so hot I could not sleep. We got 2 fans and even opened the balcony door which made it worse because the heat would blow hotter. The pillows and bed look nice but horribly uncomfortable
Review 19:It was decorated beautifully. Very clean and staff was super sweet.
Review 20:Water was scorching hot in the shower, blinds had every third panel missing, front desk agent didn't inform us correctly at check in as to what bed types we had booked. We thought it was two rooms with 1 king size bed each, so we switched one room to two doubles and one king. Once we got to our rooms we noticed that the "king" room also had 2 beds so that would have worked out just fine.
Review 21:Location and that we had a nice dining room table
Review 22:Front desk not very personable. Half smiles if any. To be clear, they were not rude. Just not very welcoming or warm.
Review 23:Pool and hot tub are great. Clean room. Nice location.
Review 24:Our room was in a back corridor behind the utility closet. Supposed to be a king room, was a 2 double instead. Very noisy at night when people above us were running? In their room. Noisy in morning with housekeeping banging carts around. Cost was very reasonable, we found out why.
Review 25:Ocean front property, clean room
Review 26:Not clean dirt on floor Lights not plugged in and no place to plug it Cloud have at least have coffee Clock time not or react and hard to try and set
Review 27:Coffee was not available in the room and was not complimentary in the lobby.
Review 28:The pool and hot tub were the draw for us to go there in the winter. Lobby was decorated very nice.
Review 29:The floor in the kitchenette seemed a bit sticky.
Review 30:The 2 story room was cute and gave our teen some of her own space. Nice indoor pool and breakfast buffet. Fresh bedding! Just lovely!
Review 31:for late December weather was unseasonably warm , we could not get the ac unit to function I assume it was shut down for the season so we had to sleep with the patio door open
Review 32:location and friendly staff
Review 33:Wish they didn't put us near families with children. Wish there was a coffee maker in room. Heard a motorized vacuum pump going off throughout our stay.
Review 34:Location, price, amenities
Review 35:Unfortunately, our room didn't have hot water. The staff remedied the situation, but it was just an inconvenience.
Review 36:It was a large, clean room with great ocean views.
Review 37:We opened the balcony window to a view of the rooftop air conditioning/heating main unit
Review 38:We liked how the desk was accommodating to change our original room to one with a better view.
Review 39:My 1st room was near some noisy people til 2 am so Angela at the desk changed me to a more quiet room the next day. She had a totally pleasant attitude even though the hotel was very full.
Review 40:Disappointed TV info not up to date on music, dancing, went by that to go to restaurant, bar to find out wasn't updated from summer posting!
Review 41:Location great, restaurant, bar very nice as was pool, hot tub. Would recommend and return with caution to check with desk for up to date info.
Review 42:Since I'm 70 years old, tho fit, the one mile walk to central Cape May was too much. Used up energy for activities.
Review 43:Loved the indoor pool, nice bar, sitting area in the lobby, and the terrific friendly and helpful staff.
Review 44:Our view was of the glass roof of the indoor pool. I wish we could have seen the ocean but I did enjoy the sun deck off of the room!
Review 45:I loved the layout of the two room efficiency suite! It was a perfect accommodation for me and my family!
Review 46:Next to elevator - couldn't sleep - bathroom fan did not work - room was warm - TV had poor reception (picture fussy) - old outdated furniture.
Review 47:Location
Review 48:Nothing
Review 49:Our family of 6 stayed in a townhouse suite overlooking the ocean. The beds ( even the sofa bed) were very comfortable. The sheets are all white which is very nice. The weather was cool and misty but we truly enjoyed our stay very much.
Review 50:Location close to beach and hiking, cleanliness, efficiency, service orientation, room furnishings and supplies, parking. Room amenities included all a guest would want. The service person even washed the dishes I'd left in the sink for me to clean later. I would enthusiastically recommend this property for a short or long stay in Cape May.
Review 51:It was a rainy day and the room was a bit musty. It is the off season and the rooms may have been vacant for a while.
Review 52:The location to the USCG Training Center was great. Room was smaller than it appeared on the website, but, was a very nice, comfortable room, very clean. The whole hotel looked very historical.
Review 53:The room was uncomfortable because there were no comfortable chairs. Sleeping was constantly interrupted by loud noises and thumping from the room above. I had to call the front desk twice about the noise. I would never recommend my room to anyone. I was tempted to leave in the middle of the night and ask for a refund. I would find it very hard to recommend the Grand to anyone in the future
Review 54:Wish we could afford to stay here int he summer! At Christmas time, it was really a good deal!
Review 55:Great location right on the beach with a really nice indoor pool that the kids loved. We all really liked the suite with two levels, because I was able to sleep on the pull-out sofa on the first floor and have the kids all sleep upstairs. The rooms were beautiful with a balcony and all new and stylish furniture.
Review 56:Great room and awesome location right on the beach. I wish we were there for a few nights to really enjoy the area. We only came for one night for my son's Coast Guard graduation which was very close to the Grand Hotel. Next time we will stay at the Grand Hotel again and stay longer!
Review 57:I was under the impression that the breakfast buffet was included in the room price, but it was extra. The heater in the room was making loud noises and couldn't sleep with it on. Hallways were dingy and need new carpet. I was under the impression I had an ocean front room and when I got there it was an ocean side view.
Review 58:Indoor pool and hours were great. Beds were comfortable and we got a late check out at noon, much appreciated!
Review 59:Temperature control in room was terrible. Could only have heat on and it was very uncomfortable.
Review 60:Place was very clean, staff friendly, restaurant was delicious!
Review 61:We were on the 2nd floor and had a very noisy group above us, we found out later they have wood floors on the 3rd floor , in the future would not like to stay on the 2nd floor.
Review 62:The hotel was very clean, friendly staff and spacious rooms. A very nice breakfast buffet.
Review 63:Can get lost in the maze of corridors. Policy that if you cancel you do not get a refund.
Review 64:The ability of the family to be together in the townhouse. Good for bad weather with the ability to travel from main lodge to other rooms. Very pleasant staff.
Review 65:The hotel was beautiful--our room was everything it said it would be from the web site. We had car problems and got there late--staff was friendly and very helpful
Review 66:Restaurant was snobby when we inquired about dinner. Parking was not sufficient. We had to park on the street, granted the meters were not in effect but it was an inconvenience.
Review 67:The rate and location were great for our purposes. If I had spent more than $89, I may not have been as happy.
Review 68:Would have liked a firmer mattress, but that is probably hard to do.
Review 69:Restaurant on site - Hemingway's. It was convenient, had a really good early bird menu for reasonable price, and a relaxing atmosphere. Also, parking was on site and easily accessible
Review 70:We loved the location right across the street from the beach. The indoorpool was so great, as it provided the children with an opportunity toget a lot of physical activity and tire them out! The staff couldn'thave been more nice! We had to call after we checked out because our 3yr old grandson left his Thomas the Train blanket behind. The front deskhad the housekeeping staff check and they found and bagged the blanket. We were able to pick it up and save a crisis! Thank you!
Review 71:Parking on Friday evening was tight would be my only quibble.
Review 72:Nice location with room view of the ocean, located near the beginning of the paved promenade. Large room with very clean cooking area. Nice walk to town center (about a mile)
Review 73:No free coffee in lobby in am or in the room Cancellation policy - check very carefully before you book
Review 74:Location, friendliness and helpfulness of personnel
Review 75:We didn't have any hot water on our last day. When we checked out, a member of the staff said they needed to reset the system. The hot water did return, just not in time for us.
Review 76:The staff was very helpful with any concerns we had. We really enjoyed sitting on the deck on the second floor. It overlooked the beach and so the view was wonderful!
Review 77:The housekeeping staff did not come to our room to attempt to straighten up and clean until the last of the three evenings we stayed. We had to ask them for replacement towels & wash clothes along with toiletries each day. The rest of the staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Review 78:This is our first visit to Cape May, NJ. We arrived Wednesday evening before Thanksgiving 2015 and stayed until Saturday afternoon. Quite, quaint and beautiful Victorian heritage town that did not seem to get overran with obnoxious tourist. Staying at the Grand Hotel I was told I got a good price for the room we stayed in which was nice and appeared to be reasonably maintained and cared for by the staff. It's a nice place with multi-purpose capabilities that appears to draw a good crowd to fill the hotel. The Thanksgiving dinner offering in the ballroom was booked solid when we stayed. I would most likely choose to stay here again if I were to revisit Cape May, NJ.
Review 79:TV cable was very fuzzy, possible bad connection in room 122
Review 80:Nice rooms, comfortable beds, nice flat screen TV . hot showers, nice kitchen facilities. liked the table at the window.
Review 81:Free WiFi was limited at best and very warm in the room. Air conditioning was not functional as it was turned off for the season.
Review 82:Nice spacious room and very comfortable bed.
Review 83:No coffe in the morning. Had to leave hotel for coffee and breakfast because of the off season and time we woke in the early morning. Also they advertised the buffet and because of the off season they didn't offer it in the afternoon.
Review 84:Location was the best. Easy to get to and a central location to other activities. Breakfast was just down the road about a mile.
Review 85:The pool area had no towels available. I called for some and they eventually arrived but it took a good 30 minutes (that should be closely monitored, especially when there is close to no vacancy). Although the beachfront location and views are tremendous, it is a bit far to be considered within convenient walking distance from the hub of the town.
Review 86:The bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean except for the carpet near door, it was a bit dirty. I loved the fact that all the rooms had an ocean view and loved the look out terrace at the end of the building. I loved the indoor pool and hot tub area. I was not expecting the efficiency (microwave, cook top, and dishes). This was an added plus but we did not use these items. Good to know for future reference.
Review 87:indoor pool area had such a strong smell of chlorine that we avoided swimming, the reasons i chose this location. It took a very long time for the bath water to warm up.
Review 88:close to the beach, clean and neat.
Review 89:Doors to the rooms cannot close without "slamming" loudly... Could not cool down room temp without leaving the patio door open... But in November, that was an issue every hour.
Review 90:Good value, right on the beach
Review 91:We were down in Cape May during an exceptionally warm early November. The a/c units were already turned off for the season and the rooms were very warm. The second day, housekeeping did bring a fan to our room.
Review 92:I loved the quaint feel of the hotel. It was homey, yet elegant. I would definitely book again.
Review 93:The mattress was too soft. Needs to upgrade mattress.
Review 94:Very pleasant reception desk staff. Had an issue with noise from above. The night desk clerk resolved the noise problem quickly and handled this problem very professionally.
Review 95:Too many noisy kids next door.
Review 96:Hotel in good location with a good restaurant open for breakfast lunch and dinner next door. Beach and promenade across the street.
Review 97:I was upgraded to a king size bed,,(extra payment), but the bed was against the wall and you had to climb over someone to get out..Room wasn't that nice..
Review 98:It was Thanksgiving..
Review 99:Everything was wonderful!!!
Review 100:Our room had a living room and a separate bedroom. There was a kitchenette which was handy! The room was clean, the staff is friendly, and their restaurant is really great!! We're planning another visit for the weekend of New Year's Eve!
Review 101:The restaurant/bar. Food was mediocre at best. DJ was so terrible that he chased people off the dance floor with his poor choice of music. He could not adjust to the audience and the bar/restaurant emptied because of him.
Review 102:Location and amenities
Review 103:The Grand Hotel was a great fit for our family's rendezvous and celebration at the Coast Guard Training Center. With comfy spacious rooms, the location was perfect. The beach and downtown old Cape May were added fun features.
Review 104:A good location right along the ocean drive. Sunday breakfast buffet at their restaurant (not included with room) was very enjoyable -- nicely presented, tasty and a good value.
Review 105:Only a couple negatives. A distinct shortage 9f available plug ins for electronics. The door was leaky and cold air blew in at a high rate. The wifi was very weak where our room was located. Need to have a morning breakfast.
Review 106:Rooms were nice. The lay out was nice. Very quaint.
Review 107:We did not get the room king bed that I booked. Very disappointing I called at 2pm and said I would be there at 7 and they said no problem your room is confirmed. We got two small double beds last room on corner-loud! You hear all the noise of everyone coming and going. We would never stay there again We were told booking.com does not always match what is available at time of booking, well that is misleading!!!
Review 108:Area
Review 109:Parking. Almost impossible and this was off season. Not all the outlets worked in the room. The drains were slow in the bathroom
Review 110:Rooms were very clean and the staff was nice.
Review 111:We didn't like the outdated rooms that smelled of mold. The room was very musty, it is in need of some serious ventilation system. When we checked out I brought it up to the woman behind the desk. She very politely responded, "we will look into it". She seemed really concerned, not!!!
Review 112:We liked the location of the hotel and the beautiful views of the ocean.
Review 113:There were several young guys rooming next door and they were extremely loud through the night.
Review 114:Beautiful view from our room. Room was spacious and clean and hotel was more than expected for the awesome price!
Review 115:My wife and I (from Mississippi) stayed for our son's Coast Guard Academy graduation. Very Clean place to stay, staff was super nice, and the bed was actually very comfortable. If ever in the future we return we will stay again.
Review 116:Wi-Fi worked off-and-on. Rooms are old-fashioned. Restaurant is pricey.
Review 117:A nice old-fashioned seaside resort hotel. Good location and friendly staff. Free Wi-Fi.
Review 118:There was a wedding going on the 5th floor and although we were on 2nd floor, we could here the music/bass and it was a little frustrating
Review 119:Staff very friendly, even called shortly after checking in to see if we were ok
Review 120:Loved the townhouse suite and location. Pool and hot tub were great. Understand why the restaurant was closed for season, but would have been nice if it had been open.
Review 121:The staff was very friendly and we were pleasantly surprised to see that we were staying in a suite instead of a regular motel or hotel room. We really enjoyed the room. :-)
Review 122:Room was very hot and we couldn't adjust the temperature. Noisy if we turned fan on. All the sounds in the hall were very loud. Restaurant wasn't open for breakfast. The room furnishings were old, worn out, and unappealing.
Review 123:Location, staff
Review 124:Although the rooms have been renovated, there's still a lingering musty odor. The ac/heat unit is situated such that only a localized area between the bathroom and kitchen really benefits.
Review 125:We loved the balcony right around the corner from our room which overlooked the beach.
Review 126:Was told city view and only got a view of the dome over the indoor pool ,but other than that it was a good stay
Review 127:Very nice hotel would stay again .Very clean and staff was very friendly. .
Review 128:The bathroom door had tape on it on the inside, over the lock. I guess this was to prevent someone from locking themselves in. Why not just replace the door knob if it's broken?
Review 129:Good location to shopping and dining. The ocean is right across the street and the staff was very accommodating and helpful.
Review 130:we had requested ocean front but were instead in the back of the hotel and listened to what I thought was a compressor all night. But overall we enjoyed it very much.
Review 131:We all stayed rooms with ocean view, and shared unique experience of seeing a pod of dolphins next day on our balconies, then we all ran cross street for even more close up view. Highly recommend the room with ocean view.
Review 132:My friends and I checked in this hotel after a long day in NYC, we were all exhausted and irritated at that point. However, staffs at the front desk were like a breath of fresh air because they were not only very helpful and professional, but extremely kind and thoughtful! Took them very little time found rooms next to each other so the four of us can stay close by. Special thanks to the manager on duty made all this possible in timely fashion. Sorry we were too tired to remember her name.
Review 133:Keys had to be changed twice. Internet difficult to maintain sign-in. Faucets need upgrading because hard to turn with arthritis.
Review 134:The pool - but a clock would be good!
Review 135:The air conditioning just wouldn't work. The room was warm for my liking, and the window on the side closest to bed was broken so I couldn't open it.
Review 136:Location, price, view...unbeatable. Didn't get a haunted room though, which was disappointing.
