Reviews for Tamarind Village

Review 1:The only restaurant in the village serves very disappointing daily buffet breakfast. We are not very picky with foods but the quality of foods at its restaurant fell way below the expectation for a premium hotel like Tamarind (considering the price we paid for the room). All cooked foods tasted sad and puzzling. The only tasty ones were milk and fresh fruits!

Review 2:The free village walk and the various classes like umbrella painting, lotus flower folding etc are very interesting. These activities make Tamarind village stands out among other hotels.

Review 3:I like their Village Walk (complimentary tour to some temples in the neighbourhood) that really gives me more historical stories about them, and saves me from hassles to locate all them! I also like the signature tamarind tree that they keep it so well! We have no such old trees in HK thanks to the HKSAR Gov. Their staffs are also helpful and friendly. Highly recommend!

Review 4:Appalling and extremely frustrating wifi - either extremely slow or no internet at all. We had to complain on several occasions and actually demonstrate with a laptop that we were getting no internet access. After several attempts to restart the internet and persistent complaining they miraculously offered us a portable wifi hotspot out of a drawer. They are clearly aware there is a problem - the General Manager said that they would try to fix it "some time this year depending on budget" (!!). We were a family in 3 different rooms in different parts of the hotel and we ALL had a problem with internet access. They clearly do not regard fixing this as a top priority so BE WARNED. Breakfast buffet has reasonably good selection including local dishes and eggs/omelettes etc cooked-to-order, but tea is very weak and coffee is very bitter and their "muesli" has the consistency of soup. Smoking area is an open corridor immediately behind the pool loungers so expect intermittent clouds of cigarette smoke.

Review 5:Located in old Chiang Mai town within walking distance of restaurants, laundry and temples. Tranquil atmosphere with many rooms facing grassy courtyard with old tamarind tree. Good airconditioning and quality toiletries (soap, shampoo). Room was serviced twice a day. Pleasant rustic design to the room and bathroom.

Review 6:The only negative thing we can say is that the sound proofing is not perfect and the noises of dogs in the neighborhood, bells in the temples and children in neighboring rooms were a little intrusive. But not enough to spoil the lovely experience.

Review 7:Tamarind Village is an oasis of calm in a bustling city. It is beautiful with every detail tastefully selected. A feast for the eyes. The staff was extremely helpful and charming. The breakfast buffet was delicious. An excellent experience all round.

Review 8:Restaurant & bar closes very early for a city hotel.

Review 9:A sanctuary amongst the hustle & bustle of the city. As you walk through the gates through the avenue of trees all the heat & stress just disappears. You are greeted by the pool & a courtyard under an amazing Tamarind tree, hence the name. Fantastic location. Easy walk to the night market & Ping river.

Review 10:The staff were very professional and helpful and gave good customer service. The rooms were clean and the hotel facilities were good. They make the best cocktails!

Review 11:Service was impeccable and there were extra touches to make us feel personally treated, such as handwritten cards, named cards to wish us Happy New year Position in town was very convenient but yet set back from the road making it seem as if we were out of town. We even had a cock crowing to give us a countryside feel. The spa was lovely and all the extra perks , such as tour around, lessons on the lawn etc all gave us a pleasant insight into the local culture. Since we had young children in our group , we never had an unkind word or nothing they needed was refused...

Review 12:One minor issue, there's no "window" in our room? Because all the windows are cover with curtains and be blocked by table&sofa, impossible to open. And there are noises come from water pipe at night.

Review 13:This is one truly perfect hotel. Sure you may find other more glamorous 5stars hotel, but only double the price. The location, price, service, environment of this hotel is flawless and best choice we've made during our trip.

Review 14:Nothing bad to say about this place. We really enjoyed staying here, beautiful and relaxing surroundings, very well laid out

Review 15:Very comfortable bed, lovely breakfast with a good variety

Review 16:The room had a little sitting area outside that was virtually unusable - because of mosquitoes and absence of privacy on ground floor.

Review 17:Size and location of Tamarind Village. Feeling of seclusion in midst of busy area. Interior of room was nicely appointed. Room size and layout were good. Beautiful orchids. Staff were very kind when I was sick, and arranged a good doctor to visit.

Review 18:Loved how beautiful the setting was at Tamarind, and the location within the old city was ideal. The staff, rooms, breakfast and decor were all exceptional.

Review 19:Tamarind Village exceeded our expectations . The staff are so helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them . The location is ideal with just a 15 minute walk to the night bazaar or a 100 Thai Bhat Tuk Tuk ride . Breakfast was plentiful with lots of choice we will most certainly return to this little gem !

Review 20:Wish concierge was more knowledgeable about restaurants.

Review 21:The design of the rooms, restaurant & pool are magnificent. The staff are all very friendly.

Review 22:AMAZING! 1) I was impressed by their outstanding service at the first place. My requirements were well noted and they tried their best to meet all my expectations with such a great attitude and welcome smile even when I was a little aggressive.; 2) The location of the hotel is fantastic and super convenient. The hotel sits in the middle of the old city, close to ATM, restaurants, 7s, as well as the Sunday Night Market. I purchased a lot of stuff at the Sunday Night Market, because of the good location of the hotel, I was able to empty my full bag to my room several times without long walk and time wasting. Trust me, you will buy a lot as the price and quality are too good to be true:); 3) they provided free breakfast which comes as a buffet but with good and fresh stuff. There are many choices of the drinks as well as the categories of the food. I would highly recommend to try the local fruit, home made yogurt as well as the local dishes, such as papala salad, pad thai, coconut, etc. 4) Also, the room and design of the hotel are special and full of Thai style. I felt I am living in a secret asian garden hidden in the middle of a noisy and busy city.

Review 23:The room was super small, the towels had a strange stinky odor, no door to the toilet, the headstall was super low (1.60) so as a 1.90m person i had to bow down to shower and many time bump my head in it, the stream was horrible!!. after the first night we complained about it so the "improved" us to the larger suite there was noise of construction the large parts of the doors were made out of glass so even though there were curtains installed you would see shadows of people moving around the room. The restaurant serve bad food at super high costs.

Review 24:The location is GREAT!

Review 25:Room could've been bigger but not really an issue.

Review 26:The service was amazing. Had to miss the included breakfast because of excursions, they offered to pack breakfast to go. Finally had a chance to have the real breakfast and it was great. Staff couldn't be nicer. I'm also in the same industry (kept that to myself didn't need to use it). Will definitely stay again the next time I'm in Chiang Mai.

Review 27:The WiFi connection was very poor, the cost of trips and spa services were extremely expensive in comparison to everywhere else I would not recommend purchasing any services directly from hotel

Review 28:Fantastic service over and above, great location, beautiful setting

Review 29:Wished the breakfast could have bit more variety for vegetarians.

Review 30:I felt homely. Hotel has this touch and staff are well trained to make guests comfortable. They attend to needs and they are very proactive. I am very appreciative of allowing an early check in. Lot of hotels don't do that even after having rooms ready for free. My wife was over the moon. After a free ten minute spa massage. There was an umbrella painting at the reception. A sweet front office girl gifted what she drew to my son. They also organised a taxi to airport with a reminder themselves at standard rates. Hotels usually over charge for these services. It tells that someone with brains and hospitality DNA is managing the place

Review 31:We found the price / quality balance not ok. We stayed in otherhotels in Changmai for half the price, with almost the same service andatmosphere

Review 32:The location is perfect, in the middle of the town but very quiet

Review 33:The space is a bit cramped with very little space to store luggage.Internet is spotty.

Review 34:Beautiful Lanna style accommodation and tranquil setting. Staff are very well informed and knowledgeable. Breakfast right by the pool in a lovely setting. 10-15 mins to airport. Baht 250 by cab from airport for van

Review 35:The bed was quite firm. This suited our needs, but may not suit others.

Review 36:Great location in the old city. The Saturday night markets are right out the front door and plenty of the old city temples are within easy walking distance. The pool area is outstanding for some relaxation time.

Review 37:1) a bit of over priced 2) need to log in WiFi each time we come back to the hotel from outside and the connection is not steady

Review 38:1) Its location, in the center of the old town but at the same time, enjoy its quietness 2) the design of the hotel 3) friendly staff 4) wonderful breakfast 5) the swimming pool 5) free guided walking tour offered by the hotel every morning

Review 39:Tour excursions. Very difficult to get straightforward details on trek ie how many miles and how much elevation gain etc. As a result, most of my family did the trek and I ended up having to cut out early without an easy way to get back to the hotel. My family had a good time but rated the hike a "10" on strenuous level. Also, earth Eco tour is not the best. No air conditioned van, very crowded and too many tourists at each site. It would be better to spend more on a better quality company.

Review 40:Hotel grounds, location and staff all amazing. Perfectly beautiful and peaceful ambiance with emphasis on thai culture.

Review 41:Everything! Free morning tour of local temples, and a free craft workshop every afternoon. Really helpful and friendly staff. Great location- in the centre but also really quiet! I would defo stay again! :)

Review 42:Nothing everything was as good as it could be!

Review 43:We loved everything, the location couldn't be better especially on Sunday when the walking market is on the doorstep. The toiletries were amazing loved the handmade soaps and the complimentary handwoven robes. The pool and restaurant were outstanding and beautiful

Review 44:Pool is a bit too small for the number of guests.

Review 45:Lovely Lanna Deluxe room. Wonderful Village Spa and the Ruan Tamarind restaurant . Friendly staff and excellent service.

Review 46:We had a wonderful stay at Tamarind Village. Everything was perfect. The staff are so helpful and friendly the breakfast it the best we had on our trip around Thailand, all fresh with a great selection. The grounds and rooms are beautiful, I will defiantly visit again.

Review 47:Complimentary village walk guided by Kan was very informative. Was pleasantly surprised by the afternoon tea & the daily afternoon activities. Loved the serene atmosphere & the greenery in the courtyard! Great service from all the staff - even when language was a problem, another staff member would not hesitate to step in to help.

Review 48:The food in the hotel's restaurant is amazing. The rooms are incredible, super clean and confortable. The staff are very friendly. The spa is really good and nice massages. Location is perfect. Walkimg distance to all temples.

Review 49:Loved everything about this place. Perfect location, a quiet oasis in a busy city. Cannot say enough about the warm and sincere young men and women who work here. Their smiling faces made our day! The breakfast was wonderful, as were all our meals and snacks by the pool. The room was lovely, lots of special touches too. Even a complimentary morning temple tour. Really a find to stay here in Chiangmai.

Review 50:Small quibble - not much storage space for unpacked clothes etc in our room.

Review 51:Quiet green cool oasis in middle of old town. Delightful staff. Lovely pool and dining/breakfast facilities.

Review 52:Very small room blocked with cement walls, no more than a country home staying unless kind serving at the breakfast. Will never come back even at half the present rate.

Review 53:Hospitality at the breakfast.

Review 54:Mosquitoes. We felt that the hotel can light those coil-mosquito repellent during early evenings, in the hope of minimizing mosquito infestation in our rooms as well as in the public areas.

Review 55:Pool times

Review 56:The location of this facility is great. In the old city. The massiveSaturday night market is right outside your door. Everything you need.Food, coffee, pharmacy, 7-11, spa. Are all close at hand. Thefacilities are nice. The driveway and grounds are pretty. Did not usethe spa. Restaurant had good food. Great breakfast and dinner althoughmore expensive. I enjoy the more personal feel of a boutique hotel.Only drawback is the restaurant converts part of the pool side tooutside dining for morning and night. As such the pool is closed aroundthose times. So an 8am or 7 pm swims are not available. I would stayhere again

Review 57:Nothing!

Review 58:A cute little oasis, close to everything. Beautiful garden surrounds. My husband and I really enjoyed the complimentary walking tour. The breakfast was varied and plentiful. Staff were helpful and friendly. ...what more can I say..

Review 59:Nothing apart from the breakfast which was not the best I had.

Review 60:Staff very kind and professional. Swimming pool. Room and very comfortable beds. Gardens and architecture of the hotel.

Review 61:The hotel had a very traditional ambiance and together with having an excellent restaurant it was an ideal choice as a base to explore the old city. Would thoroughly recommend it.

Review 62:The lanna room is quite small compared to the room I stayed at previous hotel. My parents stayed at the Tamarind Suite which was quite spacious. I hope the hotel could do better at getting the mosquitoes out of the room.

Review 63:Good location and service. Free wifi. I love the environment, especially the taramind tree inside the hotel and the bamboos along the pavement to the entrance. The hotel boutique store is small but worth checking.

Review 64:Cockerel waking us up was frustrating.

Review 65:Service was best ever experienced, food just wonderful, the location is very convenient but amazingly tranquil given you are in the centre of town, a perfect couples hotel, loved our room.

Review 66:Our room layout as bed faced the door and toilet was not really separate from the room. (No door on Loo)

Review 67:Pool was nice, Room confortable and the Restaurant was amazing! Plus is a great location for walking tours.

Review 68:The location was very convenient. Although it was on a busy street, the hotel was located inside a compound. It provided a relaxing atmosphere. The staff and manager was very friendly and provided excellent service.

Review 69:Nothing to dislike

Review 70:Everything, though the benefit of the characterful style of the room meant that space for suitcases and access to wardrobes was a little tight.

Review 71:Our room was a bit tight, and our bathroom sink leaked onto the floor. Chickens are next door and woke us up in the morning, but that may be everywhere in the city!

Review 72:Very nice hotel, lovely common areas. Nice rooms.

Review 73:there are a few things in my room that require to be examined by the people of the maintenance.... I examined them with the pleasant young man at the reception (May), for him to pass a word to his manager. AAMF, these are not too important, but.... as Spanish say : "muchos pocos hacen un mucho". My regret : the manager did not take time to come and great me !

Review 74:quite all, there. The location, cleanliness, comfort, good breakfast and so on... Most of all : availability of the staff, their kindness and courtesy. I appreciated a lot.

Review 75:We booked this hotel without knowing anything about it and were very pleased with our choice. The staff make this hotel a wonderfully welcome have on a busy street. The stylish touches in the lobby, restaurant and grounds as well as small comforts in the room added to our pleasurable stay.Highly recommended.

Review 76:Nothing at all!

Review 77:From the time we arrived we were made to feel so welcome. Extremely impressed with the staff and particularly the assistant executive manager Mr Pongsak Siriphan. I have wanted to stay at Tamarind Village for many years. So happy we were able to stay here. Wonderful location, beautiful surroundings and so quiet amidst the hustle and bustle of Chiang Mai.We are planning to go back next year. Shane and Pamela

Review 78:We loved the place, the only downside were Smoking Europeans!

Review 79:The calm and friendliness from our first encounter at the airport to ourarrival at reception, to be greeted by the assistant manager and shownto our wonderful accommodation in the first courtyard looking into theancient tamarind tree. Bliss for 6 days, encountering the wonderful watsnear(many) and far. The Lanna Museum is a must as are the other 2museums close to Tamarind. Transport is easy,so is walking to thevarious attractions near by. Tamarind Ruen Is a delight forbreakfast, any time for meals,as well as local eateries. A fabulous placewith attentive ,but unobtrusive staff.

Review 80:The room could be bigger - it was a bit small and tight.

Review 81:The very welcoming, helpful, cheerful staff. The quiet, serene environment, The clean, well kept rooms and facilities.

Review 82:I have no complaints whatsoever! I cannot wait to go back!

Review 83:Everything. It is the most perfect place to stay. And amazingly quiet despite its position. The staff are wonderful, the rooms delightful and equipped with everything you might need, the grounds are beautiful and the food is absolutely delicious. I stayed at the Tamerind to get a much needed rest after lots of travelling -- and succeeded!

Review 84:Outside light of our entrance kept us awake at night

Review 85:Within walking distance of the old city wall, and lots of small boutique shops. Had all meals at hotel, blueberry cheesecake was a favorite. Staff were all so friendly and helpful.

Review 86:Nothing

Review 87:It's a nice and comfortabe, also a good location in the old city, we liked it because it's simple with no techno Style , it's for someone who is looking for relaxing

Review 88:Bathroom lamp and entry 'arch' too low for someone my height ... 187cm Kept hitting my head (

Review 89:Great location and ambience. Friendly accommodating staff.

Review 90:They didn't have any special detail with us in our honey moon....not even some flowers... And the room was a little small but very nice decorated. Restaurant & Bar a little expensive.

Review 91:Location, Decoration, Staff, Breakfast, Swimming pool, Wifi.

Review 92:The airconditioner struggled at times but not a big issue.

Review 93:Tamarind Village is a quiet and comfortable sanctuary in the centre of the busy old town. The staff were friendly and professional and the food at the restaurant was fresh and good. Highly recommended.

Review 94:Our room was just too small. It may have been OK as a single but cramped as a double. Only room for a bedside table/lamp on one side of the bed, and no chair in the room. (When I asked for one, the staff brought it immediately.)

Review 95:Lovely place in the old city. The staff are wonderful and the food is excellent. Because we were booking late during high season the only rooms available were the cheap ones. Much too small and not good value. Very high quality though. I suspect the better rooms are wonderful and would stay here again, but not in the cheap rooms.

Review 96:... absolutely every thing !... we like the staff, we like the decoration, we like the food, we like the swimming pool, we like the spa, we like the smile of the manager and the owner... we like really every thing...

Review 97:The location is very nice. It has a good restaurant, food and breakfast. The swimming pool is very nice. It is a good option for whom visiting Chiang Mai.

Review 98:- nothing

Review 99:- it was based in the centre of the old city, very convenient - relaxing pool and surroundings - quiet and away from the street hustle and bustle at the end of the driveway - would definitely stay there again

Review 100:I've stayed at many of the best hotels throughout Thailand and this is among my favorites. The design is charming, the staff is so kind and gracious, and the food (especially from the specialties menu) is superior to even the most exclusive thai food restaurants in Bangkok. Transport from the airport is 120 Bhat with the standard taxi service. Upon arrival you are provided with a refreshing drink and a voucher for a brief but relaxing massage at the spa. the standard room is cozy and the atmosphere on the grounds is friendly and laid back. Each afternoon, craft activities are offered in the open lobby or garden for guests to participate and learn about the artisanship of the Thai culture. Five minute hand massages are also offered for guests relaxing by the pool. The room amenities were unique to chiang mai which included locally hand made soaps and lotions, stationary, etc. The compound is quite secure so i was not concerned leaving my items in the room. An in room safe was provided and I also used the manager's safe for larger items. They offer access to a variety of excursions and set us up with an excellent private guide for two days. This is a perfect retreat in Chiang Mai.
