Reviews for Tropics Motor Hotel

Review 1:There is a railroad across the street and runs throughout the evening. Also, the "cable" was only local channels and the remote was not functioning throughout the trip. The rooms were on the dusty side and there wasn't even complimentary coffee available.

Review 2:The last minute availability.

Review 3:Bring you own towels - they are very, very small. We actually went to Walmart to buy larger ones to use. Ice costs .25 so bring change Right by the train tracks that ran by every 1 - 2 hours day and night. You kind of got used to it.

Review 4:Easy access.

Review 5:I heard the train but it didn't bother this heavy sleeper. Not a lot of really close restaurants, but there was a gas station near by for little things.

Review 6:Staff was WONDERFUL! Family owned and made you feel like you were part of the extended family. Thank you! GREAT Value, clean and nice...nuff said!

Review 7:Train noise every hour at night .Also had the end room, on the outside was an electrical box that made a very loud humming noise. Hard to sleep.

Review 8:clean room. microwave and fridge.

Review 9:Carpet felt dirty and sticky. Room felt dingy. Trains (one block away) all night long. Nothing like the online pictures.

Review 10:Price: but, you get what you pay for.

Review 11:I didn't like the hotel itself, it was old, wiring was old and hanging out of the walls, It was cold, there was no heater. Stayed two nights and didn't get clean towels or no towels.

Review 12:Booking.com did a good job with the booking, I had no problems when I checked in.

Review 13:Frequent Train/railroad noise and road noise. Too easy to hear other rooms. Bathroom and shower okay but overall updating. Strange odor in room

Review 14:The front desk was very nice.

Review 15:Hot when we got there, but A/C worked and got cooled down. Had to wait awhile and buzzed twice to get staff at the desk but it was late.

Review 16:Inexpensive, easy to get to, old but comfortable enough.

Review 17:Train noise throughout my stay. Shower had hair covering the drain.

Review 18:The older man in the office was great. Didn't get his name but was very friendly and very efficient at my check-in and check-out.

Review 19:The shower drain was clogged. You had to pay for Ice. Room was not very clean. Staff was not very helpful Asked for an extra pillow and never got it. They made us come to the from for anything we asked for. Had to ask for extra TP. each day. AC was full of dust and smelt.

Review 20:The location was good

Review 21:The loud railroad tracks seem like they're going to knock down the hotel room! Too pricy for a motel type of place.

Review 22:Nice staff and very big room with a separate kitchen area.

Review 23:The pool definetly eeds a new filter there were bugs like crazy everywhere and the toilet couldve been cleaned better. I guess they dont lift the seat because it looked clean. I would stay here again if I had to in hopes that they would update some stuff but then again it's Indio (ghost town) a desert city.

Review 24:I liked that it had free wifi and that the hotel was very close to the empire polo grounds. I liked that the price was under $1000 before taxes. Although I didn't like paying for the ice machine .25 cents I liked that their purpose for it was to help kjeep it sanitized and it gives you plnety of ice that will freeze in the refirgertaor they give you so you only need to get it once.

Review 25:Got there, and was forced to sign a contract without any notice before arrival. Hate that everything is prepay without a refund. Threatened to get evicted for having guests. No guests allowed. Rules are absolutely ridiculous. Spending the amount of money and not even allowed to enjoy stay. Wasn't even allowed to sleep at 3 AM without having to worry about getting kicked out because of guests, only to tell us at the last minute they are allowed to stay as long as they are paid for-but forced those to leave and sleep in the car the night before. Not worth it at all. On top of that, found gnats in the bed and blankets. Super dirty.

Review 26:Nothing.

Review 27:For the $$$ it was not up to par. Tv was old fasioned. Channels were limited and the picture quality poor. We were not informed of any breakfast if there was one. Compared to a Best Western this was definitely a couple of steps downward. Improve the quality or drop the price significantly!

Review 28:It was just a place to stay!

Review 29:WiFi kind of limited, kept coming in and out. I prefer to be able to walk to restaurant for breakfast, nothing nearby.

Review 30:Good affordable spot to stay while attending Indian Wells Tennis Tournament. Staff and management were lovely and helpful. Fridge and microwave, and little eating table were very nice.

Review 31:The motel is directly across the street from railroad tracks and the freight trains that ran during the night felt like they were inside the room. Luckily they didn't run all night.

Review 32:The price was great, bed comfortable, good shower (except very low height). The staff was extra helpful and sincerely friendly.

Review 33:It's not really much of a discount when 13% tax is added on, that's not right.

Review 34:It was close to Indian Wells Tennis Garden,& some restaurants & stores.

Review 35:Cracked window that was just duct-taped, cracked shower door, cheap florescent ceiling light in kitchen with a cord running to an outlet on the wall.

Review 36:Good price, nice staff, whole separate kitchen room.

Review 37:Given the age of the facility, the price seemed a bit steep, but then again this was during Indian Wells tennis. The one thing that bothered me was getting a phone call prior to check-in saying we were expected to check-in by 10, but they would wait for us until 11. But even that time is just not realistic given how late the tennis matches can go at Indian Wells. Nonetheless, when we did finally arrive at check-in, we were greeted very courteously and had no problems.

Review 38:Room was comfortable, clean, and quiet, so I got a great night's sleep. That's just what I was looking for!

Review 39:Owners were very helpful in helping me park my two cars. The hotel was booked full and parking was limited so he gave me a space where we could Park in tandem by moving their own vehicle. Also, when I got into room they called me to see if wanted a different room in the rear away from the road as we were staying 5 nights. Its not a fancy place but served our purpose and the owners do what they can to make it better. They understand hospitality.

Review 40:Nobody seems to mention that this motel is about 100 yards from a MAJOR TRAIN LINE and that there is pretty much constant high speed freight traffic all night long. Each train woke me up, and there were dozens. Bring your earplugs and/or sound screen if you intend to sleep here.

Review 41:Easy to find, clean and well enough equipped; staff was helpful and friendly.

Review 42:Dried puddle of urine in front of toilet. We cleaned the bathroom/sink area with disinfecting wipes and they were filthy. Could not turn left out of facility.

Review 43:Least expensive room in the area. I like for the sink to be outside the toilet/shower room and it was.

Review 44:The bath tub leaked. The bottom rail was put in backwards so water came pouring out and we had to use all the towels to mop up the floor.

Review 45:The room was clean and spacious. There was a table with 2 chairs plus a microwave and a refrigerator.

Review 46:Noisy men in car park outside room. Not much choice of eating places or shops nearby.

Review 47:Man on reception was nice and friendly. Room was comfortable and clean.

Review 48:The bath towels were really old. The room was clean but I kept finding long black hairs on the counter top of the bedding. The train was loud and passed several times during the night, but would be the same at the other motels in the street.

Review 49:Friendly staff, comfortable bed and reasonable price. Old but clean. Free WIFI and parking.

Review 50:Train was very loud. We really just needed a place to "flop" but it was hardly restful. Upset with myself for not researching better.

Review 51:Very friendly staff and went out of their way to accommodate. late arrival and early departure

Review 52:The train was pretty loud. It passed several times during the night. It would be the same at the other motels grouped together here.

Review 53:The staff was very friendly and made me feel welcome. The room was clean and had a dead bolt for safety.

Review 54:The bath towels were small and thin.

Review 55:The room had a refrigerator even at this low price point. Desk attendant was very friendly and made an excellent breakfast place recommendation. (Sloane's) The bedding appeared to be very clean and fresh. No smoke smell at all.

Review 56:Bed was horrible. Towels were like sand paper. No in room coffee options or anything besides soap bars provided. Train comes often and is actually realllllly loud.

Review 57:It was clean and the office attendant was very nice. Easy check in and parking. Cheapest hotel option in the area.

Review 58:Towels were a little skimpy - Train a little noisy- but not awful! Nocoffee in room - but a short walk to a little market - where the coffeewas not bad.

Review 59:Staff was great - courteous and helpful. Location was easily accessible.Room was clean - bed was very comfortable! Everything worked well -considering what all the other hotels want to charge you for wifi - thatwas a treat - free parking and free wifi - that alone was worth it!

Review 60:The place could never get away with charging guests more than $80/night because of the train tracks across the highway that not only was loud but felt like a little earthquake every hour or two that it made its way past the motel. The room was clean but I kept finding long black hairs on the counter tops, towels & bedding.

Review 61:Free Wifi.

Review 62:the train of course but trains are everywhere and we just take ear plugs when we travel.

Review 63:The room was clean and the furniture nice and comfortable. Great bed. The staff very nice and helpful. We will stay there again.

Review 64:I didn't like the wet bathroom floor from water leaking down the wall from room above us. I also did not like all the train noise as well as guest in room next door who were noisy till after one am.I had two rooms one was for my brother and his wife and all they did was complain about the noise. There was no coffee in lobby for guest.

Review 65:I liked the staff. I liked the price. I liked Indio.

Review 66:That the vacation wasn't longer. Seriously, I have no dislikes. I'm not much of a picky person to begin with, but this motel was wonderful.

Review 67:First off, if you're a nostalgic, preservation minded person like myself, you will love the way the owners keep up the originality of the Tropics Motor Hotel in Indio, California. All the details, and cleanliness are obvious, and it's a beautiful thing to see such a historic property being well taken care of. I let the owners know this by telling them, and with all the photographs I made of the property and amazing neon sign (of course!) The furniture throughout the rooms matches the theme of the property, which is great. It's not just cheapo, generic motel furniture. They have a clean pool if you like to swim, many brochures on things to do in the Indio/Palm Springs area in the office. What I enjoyed the most was how welcoming and accomodating the owners were to our group, that was a great personal touch and really made the Tropics even more special for me.

Review 68:I felt like he knew me (he asked how the trip was from my starting point--he had remembered my earlier call about being late). He gave me an upgrade for the initial fee, as he stated he wanted me to get a good nights rest after my long day of travel. Bed was so very comfortable--didn't want to get up at 4:30AM--I was so cozy.

Review 69:the only negative aspect was the fact that our tub in the shower compartment was warped due to water collecting underneath the actual tub. I informed the staff immediately and the room was closed till repairs could be made. Not so bad after all.

Review 70:I loved the price and the friendliness of the staff. An elderly gentleman which was quite likable. The microwave and mini fridge were and added bonus. all in all a great experience.

Review 71:Clean and comfortable, room with king was much nicer than room with the two queen size beds, furniture was worn. Also had train across road which didn't bother us. Had a great Mexican restaurant down the road.

Review 72:No frills, older building, but clean and comfortable. The manager was very nice - they called personally to confirm the registration and know our arrival time so that they could put the air conditioning on early enough to cool the rooms. We got in a little late, were traveling with a group of high school students: they kept the pool open a little longer so the kids could get in a quick cool down swim. Nothing luxurious, but did the job for the price and with personable staff. Great option for an overnight place to crash on a road trip - would do it again.

Review 73:The hotel is located right next to railroad tracks. Loud noise of cargo trains over the night makes it impossible to rest.

Review 74:They say the room fits 4 but its very tight for 2 on each bed

Review 75:Very friendly staff

Review 76:there was left over food in the fridge from a previous guest...

Review 77:nice staff and it was quiet, i enjoyed my stay

Review 98:Responsiveness and friendliness of the staff.

Review 99:Location very convient for Indio area & Indian Wells Tennis

Review 100:awful neighborhood… was not worth the $139 price tag…. value more around $59

Review 101:room smelled musty

Review 102:owners very nice

Review 103:Pay for ice. Noices from the AC.

Review 104:The comfort of bed.

Review 105:Just an old property that needs updating or razing. TP roll had about 3 sheets left on it and I couldn't find any spare roll in the room.

Review 132:Not being able to actually check into your room prior to 3PM. Noon availability is often times my requirement.

Review 133:I visited the Tropics many years ago and appreciate an older faclity being well taken care of and maintaining its original architectural appearance. On-site staff/ownership was very friendly.
