Reviews for Grouse Mountain Lodge

Review 1:The wifi signal in our room was horrendous... our devices could rarely connect because the signal was so weak. No excuse in this day and age, so I hope it is something the hotel fixes soon! The bathroom fixtures and amenities could use an upgrade. This is one of the few hotels we have stayed in that does not provide the small bottles of shampoo/conditioner. Rather, there is some generic shampoo (?) in a wall dispenser (in the shower) that is labeled "lotion" - it wasn't very good whatever it was. The shower fixtures looked a little dated.

Review 2:We loved the staff - everytime we entered the building we were warmly greeted. They offered great advice on local attractions and were always good to our dogs (lots of attention and treats). The location was great - still a little far for an easy walk to town, but we liked the peaceful surroundings (park, forested area, golf course) compared to some of the other hotels in the area south of Whitefish that we considered. The hotel does offer a free shuttle to town, and it's only a few minutes drive and there is lots of free parking available. We had a room with a king bed on the golf course side (east side). The vaulted ceilings of the room were great, and we found the bed to be very comfortable (it's rare we like any hotel beds). TV and available channels were good.

Review 3:The pool was undergoing renovations and was closed during our stay. No mention was made of this when we booked or when we checked it. It definitely impacted the enjoyment of our stay.

Review 4:The in Lodge spa was fantastic, what a treat!

Review 5:Lack of a comfortable chair, limited view, needed some building maintenance and more detailed cleaning.

Review 6:Comfortable bed, roomy bathroom, coffee maker, Wi-Fi, close to downtown Whitefish.

Review 7:We could not open the windows. I had called and asked if they opened, and was told yes. But when we got there it would not open.

Review 8:The location was great and the staff are very professional.

Review 9:The quite, no traffic noise, yet within walking distance to Whitefish. Restaurant had excellent food, service, and reasonable prices. All the staff I dealt with were helpful and friendly. Highly recommend Grouse Mountain Lodge!

Review 10:Found dead roach on the sheet of the bed. Used coffee pot was not emptied and cleaned. Failed to pick up a dirty wash cloth under vanity. Left a dirty water glass sitting out.

Review 11:The WIFI is bad. If you're on the 3rdfloor, it barely works.

Review 12:The staff is friendly & helpful. Part of the hotel has been updated but part of it has not. My first night was in a room where the heating/AC wouldn't work properly & we were moved to an upgraded room.

Review 13:Only thing that didn't work was the internet was down but that was beyond control of Grouse Mtn Lodge. These things happen.

Review 14:Everything was great including friendly staff, location, cleanliness, accessibility, etc.

Review 15:Very low lighting in room & extremely slow tub drain in bathroom room #259

Review 16:Great location with optional shuttle service to/from Whitefish. Spacious rooms. Authentic decor throughout property.

Review 17:Food in restaurant was of poor quality. The special on the dinner menu looked and tasted like it was a premium microwave meal from Marie Calendars. The $$$ price did not reflect the -$ quality.

Review 18:The room was fine...

Review 19:Not walking distance really to downtown, but good shuttle service.

Review 20:Nice decor and decent room. Had a happy hour drink in the bar, one very good server, one not so good.

Review 21:WIFI went down before we arrived. Staff did not give us accurate information about the problem. Reception staff did not communicate our requests properly to management and other staff, which led to a few problems.

Review 22:Location was superb. Room was bigger than normal which was great. Breakfast had a good selection. Ample free parking. The General Manager resolved our issues which was a good reflection for the hotel.

Review 23:The dinner food was mediocre and was surprising to us because the breakfasts were so wonderful. We ate at the golf course across the street on our second night and had a much better meal.

Review 24:We loved eating in the screened in outdoor seating area along the golf course. We had breakfast on both days of our stay and found them to be some of the best we have had in years. Our room was large and comfortable and staff was very accessible and helpful.

Review 25:The wifi was out for both nights of my stay. The staff could not provide any definitive details which was unfortunate. It would of made it better if they would have recommended a nearby coffee shop or something -they just seemed to dismiss all complaints.

Review 26:The property it self was beautiful and I enjoyed the recently remodeled rooms as well as the view I had on the golf course side.

Review 27:Roadworks outside hotel caused severe delays. WiFi not available the 2 days we were there. Restaurant struggled to find black tea for breakfast and served oatmeal cooked very dry offering cold milk to to up: not for an English palate.

Review 28:Great lodge style hotel with excellent restaurant for dinner

Review 29:The room wasn't very clean. When we arrived there was dental floss and a toenail on the floor. It clearly had not been vacuumed completely. In addition, there was a blood sugar test strip next to the sink that was not ours and was there the entire stay. Again, the bathroom had not been thoroughly cleaned.

Review 30:Beautiful room and setting, The food in the restaurant was very good but somewhat overpriced.

Review 31:The experience was not "bad," but the room smelled slightly musty and slightly dusty. It did not interfere with our enjoyable time, and we' stay there again and recommend the Lodge to friends.

Review 32:Location was great. Liked the proximity to Glacier. Liked the town of Whitefish. Thank you.

Review 33:Wait help in restaurant not very well trained. Waiter forgot several items, and had to be reminded. She was not very communicative or helpful.

Review 34:Interesting, comfortable place. Great front desk staff.

Review 35:Third floor wifi dropped out frequently. More attention to cleaning the bathroom shower would be appropriate; some mildew stains on bottom tile grout and shower curtain hem, bottom of corner shelf in shower appeared never to have been wiped down. Notepad provided soaked with water from previous guest and not replaced.

Review 36:Concierge and front desk staff very helpful. Bed was very comfortable. Housekeeping came early but be sure to have Do Not Disturb sign out or they will be knocking by 9 AM.

Review 37:Overpriced for the condition of the Lodge. Had an old musty smell. Air-condition was hard to regulate. Dining and bar area was dingy. It should be brightened up during the day.

Review 38:Everyone was very courteous. Beds were comfortable. Clean

Review 39:We were woken on the first night at 12 midnight by youths running and screaming in the corridor. We had to go to the desk to report this. we could not make any contact by telephone. This re-occurred at 3 am and again we had to go to the desk to report it. I believe the Police were called on this occasion. We were told that they had had the same problem the night before. I am amazed that they did not sort it out and let it occur again. No apology was made at the checkout. Absolutely unforgivable. would never Stay there again.

Review 40:Facilities.

Review 41:We fell in love with this place! Its proximity to Glacier was perfect. The lodge is beautiful with pristine landscaping. The surroundings were ideal for an early morning run. We will definitely stay at Grouse Mountain Lodge again!

Review 42:carpet had pet stains. No TV. Supposedly the whole town was without TV but other motels had TV while ours was out. Pets barking incessantly, complained repeatedly to no avail. Next night, same issues except our TV was receiving a picture but only showed half. Complained again. Maintenance man eventually brought different TV which he couldn't mount on the wall properly. The remote only turned TV off and on, nothing else. Complained about our stay to the checkout clerk. She was rude and patronizing, said she would have manager call us, but no call has been received to this date. All in all, I would say that I've had more satisfactory stays at cheap flophouses. Terrible place.

Review 43:Good bed

Review 44:The price seemed fairly high for the room amenities. Definitely shop around.

Review 45:Newer facility within 30 minutes of the Glacier International Airport. Clean facility.

Review 46:Noisy too close to ice machine and laundry room where people gathered to talk. Room not too clean. One room had left over robes and blankets stuffed in bottom drawer of dresser the other room had a toilet handle fall off. No comfortable chairs to sit in. also requested a golf course view and did not get it. Too Expensive for what we got Had a cancellation fee I was not aware of.No tissues in room and tub had a dip in bottom and was holding water

Review 47:Wifi was very weak and not password protected. Room needed a microwave.

Review 48:The room was excellent. Very nicely appointed. Liked the double sink in bathroom area. Shower was great. Beds were extremely comfortable. Appreciated the $5 credit each day at grill for not having the room cleaned. Room service food was excellent. Close to downtown Whitefish but far enough out to be quiet.

Review 49:Some of the building exterior was worn condition including the facia stone on an outside wall by a side door and that entrance in general. Also for the price a hot breakfast included with the room price would have been appropriate

Review 50:Room comfort

Review 51:I would recommend they spend a little more attention to the pool area. The windows hadn't been cleaned for a long time, the floor around the pool needed to be cleaned (hair in several spots). They need to tell people the "trick" to get into the pool room. You do not use your room key like most places. We struggled with this until hotel personnel helped us.

Review 52:The room was a nice size for a family of 4 and laid out well. It was nice on a hot day to come back to a cool, comfortable room. Beds were comfortable and nice big bath towels. The soap dispensers were a nice touch.

Review 53:It was a little outdated and the rooms are overpriced for what you actually get. The halls were noisy (and so was the air conditioner).

Review 54:The location was beautiful.

Review 55:Shortage of easily accessible electrical sockets. Some warning of the major roadworks on the approach to the hotel would have been appreciated.

Review 56:Good size room with separate area for fridge and drink preparation but no microwave. Large public rooms. Good food in the restaurant but choice slightly limited.

Review 57:Construction ongoing near the hotel made for a complicated and messy entrance and exit to the hotel....but you could not hear the construction work from the hotel, which was a plus. Also, the wifi was incredibly slow.

Review 58:The comfort of the beds are what makes the stay.

Review 59:The rooms were very dark, inspite of the lamps. The sauna had wires hanging from the wall, as well as a broken/hanging bench. The tub filled with water while showering. The maintenance attempted to fix to no avail.

Review 60:The bed was comfortable.

Review 61:Noise. On check in there was hammering going on for two hours. The next day there was a crane operating. Nightmare. Reception staff friendly however restuarant needs lots of work. First night I waited over 15 minutes to get seated. Third day I was ignored for 20 minutes. Seemed business delegates get first priority with everything. Staff looked extremely unhappy. Entrance to and from hotel a mess. Worse hotel I have stayed in.

Review 62:The room.

Review 63:Check in a bit off. Key usage very particular to the key slot so we couldn't get either key to work even with several methods. When aid arrived, he showed us the trick but then the room not made up. Took 30" to get all in order

Review 64:Quiet but only because it was transition from ski season to golf season. Convenient to town center.

Review 65:They really need to revamp their cleaning and maintenance procedures. Our shower had black mold about an inch thick all around the edges of the tile floor and glass wall. I sprayed it with the shower hose and removed a lot. When I told the front desk about it she told me they couldn't do anything about it today, but she'd have it looked at the next day. I think cleaning/ scrubbing the shower should be a requirement daily and rooms inspected after cleaning. The window handle was missing and we had to pry it open to let fresh air in. Someone missed the ball here.

Review 66:Nice hotel in a good location with a great sportsman lodge look.

Review 67:Everything was excellent, no complaints!

Review 68:The staff was excellent and the room was beautiful and spacious. Thefood and service at the restaurant was amazing. I wish we would havebooked our room for more days.

Review 69:The pool and hot-tubs REALLY need to be kept up. The paint was chipping and new caulk needs applied. Felt "old" and kind of grungy with those being outdated. The drain in the shower wouldn't work properly. There were dust bunnies (small) on the sheets near the headboard. The windows had some mold on the sliders.

Review 70:I liked the location, (felt woodsy, away from town by a few minutes.) Convenient to Glacier and Kalispell. Staff was very friendly and polite. Felt cozy---and was a nice quiet stay overall. Nice gift shop stocked. Shuttle service offered---nice benefit. 2 sinks in bathroom area- was nice. Stocked shampoo/ body wash and lotion was a nice bonus.

Review 71:Your restaurant is to high priced we decided not eat there as prices way to high for us and we were ther 4 nights seen 2 people in restaurant,

Review 72:Front desk and lounge employees great

Review 73:Don't laugh... Didn't like the toilet paper... Not soft.

Review 74:1. Your staff is by far the most friendly and helpful of the perhaps hundreds of hotels I have stayed in! 2. Hot tubs and pool were sparkling clean! 3. The shuttle service was definitely an asset for those folks arriving and leaving by train, as well as providing access to the downtown area any time of the day. 4. The fireplaces were always kept going, adding to the warm ambience of the lobby and bar/restaurant. 5. Food and drinks were excellent and reasonably priced. 6. Guest rooms were large and clean. 7. My husband and I have come here to cross country on the golf course in the past. Not enough snow this year! 8. Grouse Mountain Lodge will continue to be a destination holiday for a girls get together or a couples outing!

Review 75:I only wish there was a ski storage area. Hauling mine and my children's skis, boots and poles to our rooms each day was not ideal.

Review 76:Shuttle service was always accommodating, restaurant never had to wait for a table, clean and affordable.

Review 77:Although the room where we stayed was super clean, the free shower (which they let us use after we had checked out and got off the ski mtn but before catching our train) was out dated, dark, and unpleasant. The grout had mold and there were no doors for privacy.

Review 78:The place let us check in early because we got off the train at 7:30am. The free shuttle picked us up and brought us to the hotel. We got the early check in and quickly changed to catch the shuttle for the ski resort. We were allowed to store our gear even when we checked out early (because of the train schedule). Then the free shuttle was a big factor for us on our return visit. Loved the lobby. It was so inviting people actually used it, including us!

Review 79:Their website is not up to date. We arrived lated and expected the restaurant to be open until 9:30pm, we arrived at 8:50 and they said they were closing the restaurant. When inquired about the time they said they haven't updated the website to reflect the new time of 9pm. We would have gone somewhere else. The rooms were not that clean and it was very noisey late into the night and early morning.

Review 80:The location and the view.

Review 81:The garbage's outside seemed to be full and no one changed them for our entire stay. Bit of an eye sore coming into the hotel. We also requested a top floor and we put on the very bottom floor which wasn't ideal for us but it worked out okay.

Review 82:Overall stay was very well, staff was okay, not overly chatty but did their jobs fine. We used the "do no disturb" sign for our entire trip and very much appreciated the $5 credit for Logan's.

Review 83:The hot tub was rather dirty the first try, clean the next, but scalding hot - couldn't even go in. Lost power the first night and things were a little disorganized. Tried to use the sauna twice, but it never heated up. Silly little thing, but wanted to grab coffee on the way out and the carafe was empty and it was a 20 minute wait for a fresh pot.

Review 84:Super comfortable beds and nice sized rooms. Friendly staff.

Review 85:The only thing I didn't like was the trash left by some people by the outdoor hot tub. Of course the staff could have picked it up, but people should also pick up after themselves.

Review 86:The staff was incredible. We had made several requests based on our needs and they tended to them beyond adequately and promptly.

Review 87:Very reasonable and accommodating staff. There was a mix up with an extra special package that was booked and the manager ended up comping a night for the misunderstanding. Much appreciated!

Review 88:The staff booked us in a nice room, but they also booked a family with a large dog right beside us. This dog would bark at anything coming by, thankfully we were able to get another room that was not beside a dog family

Review 89:Hotel location and staff were extremely friendly and informative.

Review 90:There was construction at the entry was which made it hard to turn in at times and not a well lit entry

Review 91:The place always smelled good Warm and comfortable to walk around

Review 92:The sauna was not working properly and I also wish the bar and pool/hot tub area stayed up later, like midnight.

Review 93:Love the $5 coupon for the bar every time I choose not to have room service. Great idea! Also, the shuttle is very helpful.

Review 94:Room was not clean. A layer of dirt covered the shelves as they hadn't been cleaned in years. The carpet had food on it and the tables had dirt and food left on them. I wasn't even sure the bed sheets had actually been changed or just made up. Finally the hotel is starting to show its age and in an unclean state it certainly didn't deserve 3stars or the $150 a night rate.

Review 95:Location and facility was alright but not great. Staff were friendly and tried to be helpful.

Review 96:We never knew when the dining room was open. You need to put more info out front so people will know.

Review 97:We got in on Amtrak at 11 pm and had no trouble finding Grouse..... It was convenient to everything and we enjoyed our stay. Hope the road construction is finished by now.

Review 98:Unfortunately other nearby guests and the railroad were rather noisy in the evening and a yapping dog woke us up in the morning. The only vegetarian item on the menu was not very appetising and the evening restaurant service quite slow. Rightly or wrongly I thought the location would be better but it's just sandwiched between the road and a golf course with no view..

Review 99:Good location for Glacier National Park. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice room and good laundry.

Review 100:I requested a shower stool for the handicap shower. When they brought it to the room, it was by far the most disgusting damaged nasty thing I have ever seen. It had rips in the seat, and stained tape over another big rip in the seat. This thing would not have even sold at a yard sale. I find it hard to believe that anyone an a facility of this quality would find this sanitary or acceptable. Either someone has really fallen down on their job, or this facility does not care about providing Barrier Free Handicapped Access for it's guests. By the way when I asked for a different stool, the girl at the desk said this was the only one they had. Really really disgusting.

Review 101:The staff was knowledgeable and helpful. The handicap access room was nice and plenty of room. Food was excellent. Service in Dining Room and Bar was wonderful.

Review 102:Having stayed in many whitefish hotels I think it's a little overpriced and due to roadworks access is very time consyming

Review 103:The beds were very comfortable

Review 104:As I sat in the lobby, realized how unclean it was, floor, rugs and dusty furniture. Our room itself was very clean.

Review 105:Bed was very comfortable, check in easy, nice staff.

Review 106:I left my pillow in the room and it was never recovered.

Review 107:We enjoyed the room, the hotel and the town of Whitefish. A great place to stay before you enter Glacier National Park. We also enjoyed the fire pit in the evening.

Review 108:The outside of the building needs to be updated and the rooms could stand to be updated. We stayed there 2 nights and room service trays were still in the hallway the following day in the exact same place. Service could be better as the front staff was not very friendly.

Review 109:We loved the town of Whitefish, Montana and the proximity to the golf courses. The rooms were clean. The restaurant was a five star! The food was outstanding as the steak was one of the best my husband has ever eaten. The town of Whitefish was very quaint and we loved the beautiful scenery.

Review 110:Had to request a clean tub. Had to request a box of tissues. Tub drained very slowly. Bathroom sink stopper did not work. Maint. had to fix TV on 1st night. A/C was very warm. Hot tub was outside. No water on our 1st day. Had to use portable toilets in parking lot.

Review 111:The hotel is understaffed for the number of guests and the staff is not well trained in customer service. One day we woke up to no water in the whole building. So, restaurant was closed, no shower. Same day, no TV. We had to move our last night stay and the next morning no hot water, just luke warm. Staff not helpful.

Review 112:We liked the decor and location.

Review 113:The hotel needs refurbishing. Paintwork and fittings are dirty. Corridors, staircases and public spaces needed vacuuming. Air conditioner/heater in room could not be turned off and was very noisy all night. TV did not work. Food in restaurant was second rate and slow, indifferent service

Review 114:Large room.

Review 115:Slept poorly. We were on the bottom floor. Every time the guest above us walked we heard it. Very squeaky. Unfortunately they were up early. Woke up my daughter who sleeps thru most anything. Put a damper on the stay

Review 116:The Resort looks like you would want a Montana Resort to look like. Good location & service.

Review 117:The staff throughout the lodge was wonderful. It is an old lodge with character. The food in the dining room was excellent. The room had two separate sinks and counters, which was nice. The beds are very soft, so if you like a firm bed, you won't find it. The large fireplace with areas in which to sit was very pleasant.

Review 118:Due to a construction company severing a water line, there was no water on the third day (beginning in the morning) of our stay. This led to not water for brushing teeth, shaving, showering, & most important: no flushing of the toilet. The staff (probably management) was not prepared to answer the most simple of questions. (What are we supposed to do/when will the water be back on--mostly answers of pretty soon. We checked out because of the unknowns. No call was ever placed to our room as to information. I would not stay there again.

Review 119:It was a nice facility with a location near the city center.

Review 120:- Interior dated and exterior outside reception area in need of paint. - Expensive - high nightly fee did not include breakfast. - Unable to properly open room door at check-in and was met with lackluster service to remedy issue. - Hotel frequent by many tour companies, making hotel feel crowded and cramped.

Review 121:- Close to downtown - Spacious accommodations - Speedy check-in - Ample parking - Gym/Pool on premises - Restaurant/Bar on premises

Review 122:The windows were dirty so our view was not very good. There were large stains on the carpet and the outside of the bedding. This hotel charges way to much for what you get.

Review 123:Service in the restaurant was rather slow and they seemed understaffed. The coffee bar did not open as scheduled either morning.

Review 124:The hotel was clean and in good condition. Comfortable rooms were a good size. Coin operated laundry came in handy.

Review 125:We thought it was much more "cabinish" from the pictures that were provided. The reception area is the only part that is cabin like - room are just a plain hotel room. The hot tub only worked 1 day out of 3 days - one didn't work at all. The pool was very strong chlorine smell so we didn't even attempt to get in. There is also road construction getting to & from hotel- not their fault but really a pain to get back and forth to town and hwys. It was really over priced for such an average hotel!!!!

Review 126:The rooms were big.

Review 127:No creamer for the coffee. No cups for the coffee. Complamentary coffee at the desk not set up until 7:30. Expresso bar opened late. Told restarant was open at 7:00 for breakfast and it opened at 6:30

Review 128:The carpet in our room had a huge stain in the middle of it, and after reporting it, nothing was done. For the cost of the room we should have had a clean carpet. Very slow seating in the dining facilities with mostly empty tables. Would not recommend staying here.

Review 129:Major Issue: no working WIFI in room for entire duration; when complained to front desk, was told to bring my laptop to the lobby, closer to the router. WIFI did work in lobby, but at $200/night, I didn't anticipate having to be out of my room at 11:00 at night to get online work finished. Minor Issue: forgot my conditioner, when asked front desk for standard 1 fl.oz. sample size, was directed to the gift shop, where a small bottle of conditioner retails for $10. Again, not the kind of service I affiliate with $200/night accommodation.

Review 130:Beautiful location, comfortable beds, accessible parking. MOST of the staff was very helpful.

Review 131:expensive, hotel couldn't provide a directory in room(u know the one indicating activities, room service, etc), If I farted the neighbouring room laughed.--no breakfast---(ala carte menu_--pathetic)--no--no---its a rip off.

Review 132:Cleanliness, location, parking

Review 133:The traffic was awful, construction was loud and hard to sleep in. The property needs a seriouse update! Pool and hot tubs were ol and dirty. Rugs were worn and dirty. Bar had one server and it took forever. Good was mediocre. Across the street from grouse at the golf course, there food and bar were great.

Review 134:Good location, outside whitefish. Beds were nice.

Review 135:The rooms were very dark, had grossly inadequate lighting, and paucity of electrical plugs. Mold in the bathtub and on the shower curtain liner. Lamp switches were very difficult to turn. Food service was very slow at times.

Review 136:I liked the town of Whitefish and the hotel location. The staff was very courteous.

Review 137:The rug in the room was filthy! There were many stains but one so large it was disturbing. We put a towel over it so we didn't have to look at it.

Review 138:The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable ! We got a great night's sleep!

Review 139:Carpet was filthy. Staff were often unprofessional and unfriendly. Garbage was not emptied by cleaning staff--had to take it out ourselves. Some guests were offered late check-outs, we were denied when we requested (just 30 minutes more). Generally the property is in disrepair. The door to the bathroom was warped and scraped on the tile floor, could hardly open or close it. Do not book at this hotel.

Review 140:Location was good.
