Reviews for Ananas Samui Hostel
Review 1:This was not a dislike but just a heads up to travellers. If you want to 18-30 clubbing scene in the evening you will be better suited further north as it is about 25 minutes away from this hostel.
Review 2:The host sorted out everything we needed including all transfers, ferries and flights. He was incredibly helpful pointing out wonderful sights to see and borrowed us a moped for 24 hours for just 250 bht. Would definetley recommend if you want to see the real Koh Samui.
Review 3:We were travelling on a budget and upon realising we will not sign up any travel packages with her, we sense that she begin to be very hostile. We brought own eggs and she made a remarks that her salt was expensive and we are using it for free. We wanted to use the kitchen for the eggs but instead of refusing politely she insulted us that we want everything free and her gas will cost her money. They unplug the hot water dispenser after 10am, remove a 2/3 lightbulb from the room and constantly complained that we are wasting electricity by letting the light switch on which we are having breakfast outside in the morning. A We were fairly accommodating through out our stay' from offering to wash all the dishes after the (paid) dinner because the lady was alone without her helper, repair a worn out tube from her bike at our own cost even when the damage was not from us, purposely took out the bike to refill the gas tank due to faulty gas meter indicating it was not, (and had to proof it to her). We certainly don't deserve the treatment from the lady and left unfortunately with a very bad memory of this place.
Review 4:I had mixed experience staying in this place. On one hand, I was impressed with the villa and the peaceful environment of ananas hostel. Dinner at the place was really good. On the other hand, our experience was ruin by the same lady running the place who was extremely petty with a lot of things.
Review 5:We booked two bungalows and one had a very old aircon, with mold inside and not very efficient. In the other bungalow it was new.
Review 6:Superb comfort of BIG bungalows for just 900 baht a night. The location is also really nice and not at all so "far away" as might seem from the beginning. Tony is a very nice host. The bungalows' and hostel design is very fresh and creative.
Review 7:If you don't have a bike there's not too much close by but if you're not scared of the dark like me then you can walk to local restaurants.
Review 8:Lovely garden with large swimming pool. Super clean, comfortable. Free tea and toast in morning, nice food available. Friendly staff. Peaceful and relaxed environment. Try out Cool Bar on the beach.
Review 9:Breakfast could be more diverse: some more kinds of jam, peanut butter, egg? The owner (Tony) tried to be friendly, but at the same time he still remained suspicious. I've rented private villa just for myself (so it could be discussible, whether I paid for the room, or for the room with only 1 person). When after heavy rain I came to the villa at daytime with my old friend, who is living on Samui for several month, to change wet clothes, Tony knocked in 10 minutes, keeping asking in annoying matter "what happened?". I had to confirm to him 5 times at least in a row, that my friend was guest, just visiting me during the rain on our way through the isalnd. He was suspicious, because he actualy was counting incoming/outcoming bags. But he made a mistake that day and decided, that my big kite-bag was a tourist one of a new person. So I had to answer, what was inside my bag! All this things could be done afterwards in calm and tactfull way. :))
Review 10:If you want to do kite-boarding at KBA Orchid Resort (almost the onlyiest kite station on Samui), the location is perfect - 2 min drive on a motobike. In other case, just keep in mind, that it is a bit in the middle of nowhere (no public transport near at all, so rent motobike) - that can be plus or minus, depends, what you are seeking for. Nearest beach is 7 minute walk, nearest cafe about the same. If you are loooking for bars and clubs - nearest ones are in Lamai - 15 minutes drive on a motobike. The place is very quite, comfortable and clean. You also can rent good motobike or car from the owner for an average price on the island (not the cheapest one, but good for short-term no hassle rentals). There is breakfast: toasts with jam. There is also pool - not big one, but clean. And it is not only hostel, but there are about 4 villas - very comfortable rooms with bathroom, AC and terrace. If you are staying for 2 weeks, you may try to get a good price, which will be comparable with 1 month rental of a house without pool (but most of thais will try to charge you a month rate for 2 week). They accept cards!
Review 11:Bad location far from everywhere, ko samui is not a very easy island to move around. A little bit expensive
Review 12:clean, helpful staff, great hostel to meet people because of the big common area.
Review 13:- Tony and his mom are perfect hosts - nice and clean hostel with swimming pool - cozy bungalow - breakfast and curries are delicious - quiet area - perfect with a motorcycle
Review 14:Mosquitos round the pool and outside the room - fine inside (problemwith being in the tropics not just here!) Could do with more sunloungers (and newer ones) *** check transfer companies We booked atransfer through the hostel to get from Samui to Phuket and had aterrible experience with Songserm, who the hostel use for all theirtransfers off the island. It was our worst transfer in Thailand - took13 hours rather than the advertised 8 hours, had our (padlocked) bagsgone through on the bus and items stolen (google Songserm reviews) aswell as a vile driver. Stay here but do not book with Songsermwhatever you do.
Review 15:Spacious room (villa) felt like a little bit of inexpensive luxury. Tony(owner) is fantastic, friendly and very helpful and attentive Quietlocation with a nice quiet beach nearby (not the best if you want aparty place but perfect if you want to rest!) Restaurant served the bestchicken and cashew nut we've had!
Review 16:Ananas was one of the best hostel-places while my trip through southeastasia!! They have good food, it's very clean, and really nice staff who cares about you if you need something. The hostel itself has more than you need, is very comfortable furnished and gives you the feeling that you can fully relax there. Thank you very much!
Review 17:The staff here are simply amazing. I really felt at home as the staff just could not do enough for me. The female owner (sorry I've forgotten her name) was so kind to me and even taught me some thai and shared her thai fruit with me haha. It's in a very quiet part of samui which is perfect if you're looking for a relaxing few days. The hostel is so clean and very well presented. The swimming pool is great and the food is even better. I had such a brilliant stay and I will most definitely go back soon.
Review 18:Very nice host, speaks fluent English and is very helpful. Nice design, clean and the bungalows are ideal for a relaxed stay. The food is really good as well. Ananas hostel is a bit far from the nightlife, but the quiet location is what we aimed for. You can rent a scooter at Ananas to discover the island and there is a beautiful beach within 5 minutes walk.
Review 19:That I couldn't stay longer!
Review 20:I loved this hostel so much! Tony and his mum were so welcoming and I met so many lovely people. Don't let the fact that it's not near the main beaches put you off. We all enjoyed the peace and quiet and would share taxis when we wanted some night life. I stayed in the private cottage which was beautiful, clean and homely.
Review 21:It's only 5 a minute drive from the beach but there is a swimming pool and scooters to rent
Review 22:The staff is great. Very helpful and friendly all the time. The facilities are very good, new and of hotel quality. So much better then what you would expect of a regular hostel.
Review 23:A little far from more of the central shopping, bigger beach as well as the piers.
Review 24:This hostel is great. The staff are all super helpful with anything you need even booking your next accommodation if you're continuing your travels. Tony was great in organizing a tour for us and also getting us to the fill moon party. The pool and bar/ restaurant area are really chill and very clean. We had a private room and it was quite large and had all the amenities you would need.
Review 25:Feeling like home at Ananas Samui. I recommend to improve a little bit the breakfast. Perfect for a relaxing stay in Koh Samui
Review 26:Staff was absolutely lovely, very clean Place, great Pool, great Food. Definitely would stay here again.
Review 27:In the middle of nowhere, not easy to get around. Check out all the room options before booking.
Review 28:Beautiful pool and seating area. Lovely food.
Review 29:The family that run the place are so lovely and accommodating! It is a beautiful hostel in a beautiful location! Great if you want a peaceful setting!
Review 30:Hostel is kinda in the middle of no where. A lot of dogs in the area, which stops you from going anywhere on foot. Inconvenient if you cannot ride a scooter.
Review 31:Tony is among the best host you can ever expect: kind, patient, willing to help, and cute! Perfect hostel to stay: clean, nice; has everything you may need: a bar, a swimming pool and scooters to rent. And really quiet.
Review 32:I didn't like the hosts (tony and his mother) too much... To me they seemed very uninterested towards their guests. Very money-orientated (pay immediately for everything, cannot rent scooter by the hour, only per 24 hours) and never asked his guests any questions, they always sat behind their computer and it felt like a lot of effort to ask for a meal (which you pay enough for). The hostel is small, a bit like a 'home', so you are constantly interacting with each other and in the same room with the hosts. I sometimes felt akward, cause I felt treated like a little kid (f.e. I was not allowed to eat inside when I brought a sandwich inside and I was being told so, in a very unfriendly way). Also what I didn't like too much was that the restaurant closes very early, although it says 'open untill 21.00 oclock', it sometimes closes at 19.30 oclock. The whole atmosphere didn't felt very welcome to me, because of the hosts... It felt like everything I asked, was a too much effort.
Review 33:Great location (nice and quiet and by scooter or taxi you can get anywhere easily). Nice and clean interior and rooms, feels like home. Great outside, with a very nice and relaxing pool. Scooter rental was also perfect.
Review 34:- Location: family mart on 800m, anything else even further away. - Beaches: the closest beach is not the best, so to go to a nice beach you'll also need a motorbike (for rent at the hostel though for about 250 baht a day). - The island in general is at some points pretty expensive, compared to the rest of Thailand. For example, a taxi or pick up/return from the pier to the hostel, costs 600 baht one way. While in Bangkok you'll have a similar ride for 60 baht :) - But... in total the positive things about this hostel are definitely bigger than the negative points! So don't hesitate to you there if you just want to relax.
Review 35:The hostel itself is great! Like any other review says: quiet, clean, relaxed athmosphere, good place to relax, friendly staff, good food en shakes. If you are looking for a place to just relax, you should really go there!!
Review 36:Would be nice if there was fruit offered for breakfast besides toast. Maybe bananas?
Review 37:I liked everything about this place. Tony the owner is a super cool guy that makes you feel welcome the moment you walk through the door. The food that his mom cooks is wonderful, tasty and reasonable cheap. Everything you can possible want is available at this hostel. Beer, food, water and smokes. What more does a guy need? If you need something that is not offered there is a Family Mart 15 min away by foot. Or you can rent a scooter on site. They also have a wonderful pool where you can chill at meet other travelers. Some people complain about the location being far away, but after spending 5 min down by the "action" you will be grateful a hostel like this exists.
Review 38:A perfect little hostel with the nice staff, good food, a pool, nice hangout areas, scooter rental. I will defenitly stay here next time i will be in koh samui
Review 39:Location wasn't so great.... Quite alot of dogs around that bark at you ( I came across 5 at one time down the little dirt road 200 m from the hostel and was terrified. Defo need to hire a scooter for safety and accessibility.
Review 40:Gorgeous hostle, great pool, helpful owners.... Lovely food :)
Review 41:The best Hostel i have ever been. Absolutely clean, great pool area. Tony the owner is one the best owner ever. He can help you with everything. And his Mum is a great cook. When i come back to Ko Samui there is only one option for me to stay: Ananas Hostel.
Review 42:Sometimes I would have to wait a long time to be served or go and find someone to serve me. Also, was not impressed with the bike rental situation as the bikes were in a bad condition and there was no policy in place regarding petrol, which meant I paid to have the tank filled both times upon receiving the bike, despite never using a full tank.
Review 43:This is a great little hostel in en excellent location. Very clean with excellent facilities.
Review 44:The location is away from the main strip and nightlife, but after Koh Phi Phi, for us, this was a plus. They even rent scooters so you can get anywhere.
Review 45:This hostel is AMAZING! Super clean and modern. One of my best stays in Asia. The white sandy beach and crystal clear water is a 5 min walk away. The pool is *fab* after a long hot day and the area downstairs is very nice to chill out and meet people. Tony bends over backwards to do everything he can to make your stay perfect (He even sent me my silver necklace I left behind, by post to my next address!!) The food they serve is fresh, made to order, and really good value for money. The shower has hot water and each little bathroom/toilet is cleaned daily. Thank you Ananas - I will be back :)
Review 46:the hostel is a little bit in the middle of nowhere - but it is possible to rent a motorcycle
Review 47:very clean and high standard, friendly staff - I would highly recommend
Review 48:Secluded yet close to nature. Waterfalls are just around the corner, beautiful beaches about 5 minute motorbike ride away, staff are extremely helpful and polite, and the guests here are pretty awesome. The swimming pool is beautiful, the boutique restaurant is cheap and yummy, and the facilities are spotless.
Review 49:Such an amazing place, very clean and the staff were very helpful. Nothing was ever too much, my second stay here and would highly recommend! The pool is amazing and an added bonus. If you are looking to relax and unwind...this is the place. Hire a moped to get out & about or spend your days doing nothing at all....the choice is yours!!
Review 50:i love the pool and the staff were very friendly. its a bit more outside but you should rent a scooter on the island anyway so you can go there easylie
Review 51:The Owners were so cool and friendly/helpful, the pool is simply amazing! clean and very affordable. breakfast and towel are for free. EXCELLENT HOSTEL!
Review 52:Very nice, friendly, helpful !! Rooms very clean and perfect pool
Review 53:Wi-fi was not working in the room, far from city, lots of dogs around
Review 54:Very quiet, great pool, comfortable beds, nice staff, great place to rest
