Reviews for The Cavalier Inn at The University of Virginia

Review 1:Booked a King, but got a Queen sized bed. They overbooked the King sized beds and offered no accommodation for the downgrade indicating I had received a discounted price for the King. From my perspective I would not have booked the room had I known only a Queen was available.

Review 2:The location is great, central to UVA. The staff is friendly which helps overcome an older property.

Review 3:I had to be careful in the shower. The water temperature could suddenly change, sometimes to very hot. Note that for many rooms, you need to go outside to enter the room, although there are indoor elevators to all floors.

Review 4:Friendly staff. Clean facility. Comfortable bed. Nice that it included breakfast. Hot food selections were limited, but OK considering that breakfast was included.

Review 5:I like ketchup and hot sauce with my eggs. These weren't offered, nor did I ask.

Review 6:Fresh hot popcorn in the evening! Waffles, scrambled eggs and sausage for breakfast.

Review 7:The breakfast area was a little cramped.

Review 8:The front desk clerks, all of them, were polite and friendly. The room was VERY clean. The housekeeping staff happily gave me more coffee when I asked for it. I highly recommend this hotel. I am a picky patron and was SO pleased with the politeness of the staff and the cleanliness of the hotel that I will definitely return in March for my next visit. It will forever be a part of one of the best weekends of my life with my son!

Review 9:The price was a little high for the hotel, but the location was excellent and it was to be expected on a football weekend

Review 10:The staff, in particular the lady at the front desk was excellent. She could not have been more friendly and accommodating.

Review 11:Would have liked a quieter place, but we knew it was a busy intersection.

Review 12:Convenient location, good price. We were a 5-10 minute walk from John Paul Jones arena, but it was also close enough to walk downtown for dinner.

Review 13:Nothing

Review 14:Our stay at the Cavalier Inn was fantastic. Friendly and polite customer service, privacy, great maids, excellent continental breakfast (the waffles are great)--this place had it all--all for an affordable price. The location was great and really close to downtown where the concert we were staying the night for was at. We couldn't have been happier there.

Review 15:all the rooms facing the street were collectively climatie controlled and we felt like idiots trying to use our in room controls The noise of the band practice and other events was quite annoying it was not close to any freeway and we just had stayed at the sleep inn and suites off hwy 64 which was a much better stay friendlier staff full kitchens and more amenities It just was not for us

Review 16:It was close to the campus

Review 17:1) I thought the price I paid was quite steep for an Inn and compared to hotels in the area. 2) The place does not seem to be accessible to public transport (i.e. bus)

Review 18:1) Staff were pleasant and helpful. 2) Facilities were clean. 3) The selection for breakfast was quite good considering that it is an Inn and not a 5-star hotel.

Review 19:I loved the UVA Wahoowa spirit and how it's conveniently on campus grounds! The room was very clean and comfortable. I was there for parent orientation and it was perfect! The shuttle bus stop is behind the hotel! I will stay there again next time I visit UVA!

Review 20:Had a little trouble with adjusting air condition so it got a little hot until someone came to room to show us how it worked.

Review 21:Room was very spacious and hotel was very clean. Breakfast was great and plenty of tables and chairs. A couple of hot foods was a nice touch to breakfast.

Review 22:Breakfast was not quite what they had sold it as online. Ok to get some calories in the morning, but nothing special. The major problem we had was a group of parent chaperones from a baseball team stayed up late at the pool drinking beers well beyond the pool hours and left a huge mess that was still not cleaned up the next morning so the pool was unusable for morning swim even though it should have been open. Night management could have done a better job of keeping a few guests from ruining facilities for other paying guests. Also - mattresses are wrapped in plastic covers so it's a little uncomfortable and every time you move it's noisy!

Review 23:Location was perfect - walking distance to restaurants. Hotel was average, pretty nice renovation.

Review 24:Complimentary breakfast did not have a variety of foods to accommodate guests with food allergies. i.e.. except for the fruit cup, apples and juice, everything had wheat gluten and dairy in it. Should have a rice-based option, hard boiled eggs, or other simple plain foods.

Review 25:Location. Friendly staff. Restaurant next door. JPJ Arena within close walking distance. Good parking.

Review 26:The breakfast is pretty average.

Review 27:Good location on campus, very helpful staff, room has everything you need including safe and aircon. TV and phone also reliable.

Review 28:The convenience of the hotel's location is also a bit of its downfall. One side faces Emmet St. which is a main thoroughfare into and out of the University. Much of the traffic noise can be heard. I'm not sure if the "parking lot" side of the hotel would be any better, but it is worth suggesting as an option. There is also a nearby train track that also sees some activity. Noise from passing trains is noticeable, especially at 4:30 am.......

Review 29:The facility was clean and appeared to be relatively recently updated. The hotel staff was very nice and accommodating. The location is convenient if walking to the Corner or the University is a priority.

Review 30:Noise of the cars....had thought this was more of a hotel with inside corridors, not a motel with doors on an outside corridor. In the dark, parking was not immediately noticeable.

Review 31:The hotel needs updating but was not a deal breaker.

Review 32:It's so convenient to be able to walk to UVa for college tour. The staff (check-in, breakfast & store) was exceptional!

Review 33:Overall, the hotel needs a lot of work. The room wasn't in the best shape - towel racks were falling off of the wall, and there was a funny smell that permeated the room. I don't think we would stay here again.

Review 34:The staff was very nice and accommodating. The breakfast was a plus, and the offering was ample given that it was free. Great location too.

Review 35:The walls are very "thin" and we could hear toilets, showers, people walking by our room, etc. The heat/air in the room could not be adjusted and it was too warm.

Review 36:Central location, microwave and refrigerator in room, hot breakfast included with stay, friendly staff, airport shuttle

Review 37:Room had a musty smell and shower was dirty. When room was cleaned, remote was made into bed so it took forever to find it and no coffee refills were provided when ours were used. No vent in bathroom.

Review 38:I loved how close the John Paul Jones arena was to the hotel. The bed was comfortable. Good free breakfast.

Review 39:the beds where to hard and had to turn heat off room got to hot and it wouldn't turn down

Review 40:clean and very friendly breakfast was good and plenty of it.

Review 41:Could have gotten a much nicer hotel for the price. Did not know about extra charge for dogs until room was confirmed. Breakfast was so bland. Rooms were very very small. Party on main floor could be heard on the forth floor. Had to call desk to turn music down. Could hear people going to bathroom next door.

Review 42:Location

Review 43:Never got a WiFi signal in the room...would sometimes link but was too weak to stay connected. WiFi in the lobby area wasn't that good either. Grouting in the bathtub was a tad old. The shower itself wasn't the best--old school knobs and low flow shower heads. Coffee at breakfast wasn't the best but was plentiful.

Review 44:Excellent location if visiting the University of Virginia--10 minute walk from the rotunda and across the street from the tennis courts. Friendly staff. Nice interior despite the outside look. Room was spacious and had a mini-refrigerator. Bed was covered in a plastic encasing I think--so "crunched" but was comfortable enough. Breakfast was good--scrambled eggs and sausage--biscuits and gravy one morning. Healthy options (oatmeal, yogurt, cereals) were also available. Very attentive breakfast staff. Never had an issue with parking but could see that on busy nights during events. Plenty of low cost dining options nearby and some good restaurants within a mile--try Maya, Fig, Vivace.

Review 45:The beds were smaller than we would have liked.

Review 46:We were pleased with the accommodations. We felt safe. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The breakfast bar was a bonus.

Review 47:Breakfast wasn't great but was probably about average for hotel buffets.

Review 48:Very close to the University so it's great for visiting the grounds or attending a game. Rooms are somewhat small but comfortable and nicely finished. Free parking was very nice on a football weekend.

Review 49:Room Beds were terrible. Mattress seemed to be covered in old plastic. It crunched. Pillows were hard and lumpy and the sheets were thin Bathroom very dated

Review 50:The location was very good The staff was helpful Lobby was pretty charming Breakfast was OK

Review 51:Room was falling apart and kind of poorly kept. Building is quite out dated and in desperate need of repair.

Review 52:Parking and the morning breakfast was ok.

Review 53:Old school motel with glass front wall looking out to a walkway. Opening the drapes makes it feel slightly like a fishbowl. Could potentially be noisy if large rowdy groups using the motel. I was awakened at 5:30 by a coach shouting to wake up players in adjacent rooms. But otherwise my time there was peaceful.

Review 54:Staff was very responsive and friendly. Better service than you are likely to receive at any hotel in its class. Room was immaculately clean and well appointed. Location for anyone with business at UVa was ideal. Free continental breakfast was a nice bonus, and parking was free and easy.

Review 55:No problems.

Review 56:The location is fantastic when I am visiting the University of Virginia. This hotel is clearly an aged property but it has been kept up well. Everything is clean and I did not see anything in disrepair. I feel very welcomed by the staff. The pricing is very good based on what you get.

Review 57:The location is immediately adjacent to campus, which is great for UVA visitors, but is a fair distance from downtown nightlife in a town with limited transit options. This is the biggest weakness.

Review 58:The Cavalier Inn is nothing more or less than I expected: a reasonably comfortable, affordable, pet-friendly home base for exploring Charlottesville and environs. This isn't Club Med.

Review 59:All good!

Review 60:College orientation trip and we love the location to walk to the corner and to campus. Pleasant atmosphere, parking, pool and breakfast. It met all of our needs.

Review 61:I didn't think the bathtub was cleaned out daily. Good thing it was my hair in the tub.

Review 62:Breakfast was good. It was quiet. Beds were soft. Employees were nice.

Review 63:Furniture and fixtures in room were old, tired and banged up. As the access to our room was via an exterior balcony/walkway, we were forced to pass other guests who were smoking on the balcony/walkway.

Review 64:The room was clean but poorly maintained. The light switch was falling off the wall, and the metal lock at the door was loose. And they weren't running the shuttle to the airport on Sunday, which meant a $30 cab ride.

Review 65:The location was great, and the room was clean

Review 66:The only thing I could say that I did not like was the busy intersection. I found it difficult to get out but I managed.

Review 67:Everything. It was the best place we have stayed while in Charlottesville. We travel there often for my grandson's medical visits. I liked that there was a chairlift and other handicap accessable resources available. The free popcorn was a hit with my grandson.

Review 68:You can tell this was a motel, fixed up to "feel" like a hotel. The rooms are small and motel-ish, unlike today's modern hotels. There was no sitting area, just two beds, dresser with attached desk and the bathroom area. Clean and well kept, but not quite what I was thinking of. There was just enough room to fit our travel crib for the baby, and we had to rearrange furniture to make that work. The breakfast was mediocre, standard fare with a hot plate, waffle iron and the usual cereal/carb options.

Review 69:Very helpful and friendly staff. Great location.

Review 70:There was not a clock in the room. Doors on the fifth floor looking over the field are very squeaky and very loud closing. I was awakened by them and loud neighbors around 1 a.m. on Sunday evening. The air conditioning controls were hard to use.

Review 71:The beds were lovely and comfortable. The location was wonderful for a visit to UVA.

Review 72:Would have been great to have more a variety in the snack bar; fresh fruit, cheese snacks, microwavable dinners etc.

Review 73:Very courteous staff, comfortable and very clean rooms...

Review 74:No ADA accessibility to breakfast seating area

Review 75:Location and staff

Review 76:Bed not very comfortable but overall good value

Review 77:Great location for UVa basketball. Breakfast choices good.

Review 78:Great location, rooms have been remodeled and are comfortable. Free breakfast was very convenient.

Review 79:Bed was very uncomfortable. And room was hot with no way to change temp.

Review 80:Classic lobby with wonderful breakfast. Close to everything.

Review 81:Gym could be better

Review 82:Parking, room, service

Review 83:Slow computer wireless connection.

Review 84:Just right for my needs.

Review 85:Couldnt adjust room temperature and it was fairly warm

Review 86:Close to the Jefferson Theatre where we were attending a concert

Review 87:Value for money

Review 88:The rooms needed to be updated

Review 89:The breakfast

Review 90:Our grandson goes to UVA and we like this location.

Review 91:beds had a plastic protection pad that was uncomfortable and hot.

Review 92:convenience

Review 93:Very large roach in the ballway

Review 94:long tick mat of hair in shower drain

Review 95:nice location, very helpful staff, very clean

Review 96:Staff was tremendous as we had to stay late our last day. Location can't be beat if business at UVA. Will book again.

Review 97:A nice hotel, good value for money

Review 99:Elevator

Review 100:Fashionably updated rooms.

Review 101:Staff could hav been friendlier

Review 102:Good breakfast

Review 103:Difficulty in obtaining a taxi from the hotel.

Review 104:Breakfast was good.

Review 105:The hotel was clean, convenient to concert. It provided free WIFI and a hot breakfast. The accommodation were stylish and comfortable

Review 106:Noise. Guests yelling and running in hotel at 3:00 am

Review 107:Location!! Check in staff

Review 108:I liked it was close to UVa campus and I was able to walk there and take the trolley to go to the downtown mall.

Review 109:Bathroom door would not close, and the air conditioner ticked all night

Review 110:Close to location

Review 111:not a bad experience but they could make sure the bathroom wallpaper isn't peeling off.

Review 112:location

Review 113:drippy faucet in tub.

Review 114:Location of facility was great and the price for the room was excellent.

Review 115:There was nothing not to like.

Review 116:Comfortable room, and with a handy diner just along the road.

Review 117:The air condition did not work.took too much time to change the room

Review 118:Old rooms, smelled like smoke, bathrooms nasty

Review 119:Easily accessible to UVA

Review 120:Terrible breakfast, poor ventilation

Review 121:Convenience, parking

Review 122:Needs a bar within even small bar to relax

Review 123:Excellent location for all uva events.

Review 124:draughty room; simple breakfasts

Review 125:Worse part was the breakfast, too american and unhealthy.

Review 126:The room was so nice and the people of the hotel really kind and friendly

Review 127:Hvac. Was unable to adjust down only up. Lowest temperature 75 degrees.

Review 128:Walking distance to Football,Basketball and Baseball.

Review 129:Nothing bad to say.

Review 130:Great location and friendly staff.

Review 131:Glass enclosed balcony doors on each floor sometimes left open and makes entire floor freezing in winter ...affecting rooms too

Review 132:No

Review 133:Place and service.

Review 134:proximity to uva
