Reviews for The American Inn of Bethesda
Review 1:The parking is TERRIBLE, for the amount of rooms they have, there is only about 20 parking spots and it VERY tight. My room was very very small.
Review 2:the place was nice and clean. The staff was really friendly.
Review 3:Housekeeping crews very rude. Breakfast was very poor too. Bad smell, and a/c was off on a 73 temp.
Review 4:I like the front counter Jose was very helpful. I was fighting the flu or something like that and he assist me with over the counter medicine.
Review 5:The staff had very good service, went over and above the call of duty to arrange for taxis, follow them up, discuss how to get around town and arrange shuttles to the NIH.
Review 6:Could not cool the room down enough to be comfortable sleeping. System-wide HVAC was on "Heat" (makes sense since it was fall when I was there) but the temp for that day hit 73 degrees. In the morning when I went to take a shower it took a full 5 minutes for the water to come out warm. At one point I thought I would need to take a very cold shower. I found it weird that the toilet in my room was the type you would find in a commercial facility. Looked a little bit cheesy.
Review 7:Location was perfect for what I needed.
Review 8:Parking lot, and manner in which parking facility was presented on-line. Nearby public lot was fine, and fortunately it was a weekend so we could park for free; yours is way too tight and only has limited space.
Review 9:Location and price. Good beds and quiet.
Review 10:I didn't like that Amenities were not listed correctly online. Couldn't tell if there was a coffee pot and microwave in room. The floor was quite dirty - if I wiped up something that spilled, the paper became very black. The TV remote didn't work.
Review 11:Loved the fully-furnished kitchenette, breakfast options and shape of room.
Review 12:I had to find a room as an urgent matter. I checked in at about 11:30 and was exhausted. I told them I didn't care which room they put me in as long as it was quiet. Well, the room was on a hall between a Mexican Restaurant and the street. The room had a window (!) to the hall where many drunken people were walking. I got ice thrown at me opening the door. Then I immediately tried calling the front desk to see if there was any other room, but no one answered. Mind, I had just checked in. So then I walked out to the lobby but couldn't find staff. The room smelled funny. So I went out to get some food and came back to log into the wifi. It didn't work. The next morning the front desk staff said, "oh yeah, the password changes each night at midnight. Sorry." I complained about the room and he nonchalantly said "sorry." It was not worth the $140 or so I paid, for sure.
Review 13:The location of the hotel was fair.
Review 14:Price versus quality. Price was too high for the value. Shameful Smell in Hallway and room really bad. This was reported weeks ago in an earlier review. Problem is not resolved. Parking is unacceptable.
Review 15:Location to hospital
Review 16:Swimming pool was closed (no guard) during my visit. No service lift(apparently), so had to squeeze in with laundry trolleys etc on severaloccasions. Lift floor was left very wet (presumably after cleaning) onemorning, without warning sign, and I slipped on entry. Fortunately didnot fall but could have hurt someone.
Review 17:Good Wi-Fi Quiet
Review 18:They promised a "business center" but it was only one computer with one printer. The computer couldn't save my work document and was told I had to wait until the next day before it could be fixed. They could also direct me to any business center outside the hotel.
Review 19:Comfortable room and everything in the room worked.
Review 20:queen room size was very small and not suitable for two people. We also had a double room which was an adequate size. Breakfast room was untidy and tables were not clean.
Review 21:hotel staff were helpful and generally very cheery.
Review 22:The wireless was awful. And, our keycards frequently did not work. It was expensive, but hey, it's DC.
Review 23:Convenience to Bethesda and Friendship Heights, and the Metro. The room was clean and the furnishings were new. The staff was courteous and friendly.
Review 24:The room I had was very small for the expensive price I paid...Very few free parking spaces...If nothing available...you had to park in the meter parking lots which would be very expensive...$1;25 per hour Breakfast was ok nothing special....Was not impressed for what one get for the expensive rates...
Review 25:The Staff was really helpful, not far the metro Station....free Shuttle service to the metro.
Review 26:Breakfast was absolutely gross Shower was cold and there was not any water pressure Room smelled strongly like cleaning supplies and not in a good way.
Review 27:Location Liked having a refrigerator Was pretty quiet Staff were friendly
Review 28:Very limited parking and very inconvenient to arrange parking. Parked in public lot until one of the few spaces in the hotel opened up. Was late to a meeting because of this. WOuld have had to feed a meter in a public lot if no hotel spaced became available in a short window of time. Perhaps a valet service even at additional charge would greatly improve the stay.
Review 29:location and price.
Review 30:Did search for 3 adults, 3 teens and reserved 2 queen rooms, thinking 2q each; got 2 very tiny, dingy, not clean, rooms with 1 queen bed eachand not enough floor space for a cot ; impossible to sleep 3 people inthese rooms!? Misrepresentation though checked and saw my booking didsay 1q each; but should not be able to book this for 3 people! Askedfor xtra bedding for floor for my teens and the blanket had a big spotof something sticky and red, yuck! Not insulated either; noisy fromhalls, other rooms. Very expensive for what you get, not very clean, very dingy.
Review 31:Folks at reception very nice and tried to be helpful
Review 32:Parking was across the street, (public parking), but we had no issues with the parking. The hotel fills the meters until 10:00 A.M.
Review 33:Thanks for the great breakfast, which was included in the hotel price.
Review 34:Not enough Parking space. But it worked out well with us. There's parking lot across the street.
Review 35:The staffs were very helpful and attentive, Jose at the desk was one of them.
Review 36:Advertises free parking - but parking is on a first come basis. If there is no spot, you are directed to a metered lot across a busy street and behind buildings. The hotel does not reimburse you. Also, had no hot water one day and a toilet that overflowed.
Review 37:The location to the Metro and restaurants. Also, the front desk staff was very friendly.
Review 38:Very limited parking, small bathrooms, small elevators and horrible breakfast.
Review 39:Staff is very accommodating and its pretty close to the NIH building and restaurants and shops.
Review 40:Disappointing breakfast -- no protein and two big pans of potatoes . . .
Review 41:Accessible to the highway and to our meeting place. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that the popular Mexican restaurant, Guapo's was right in the hotel allowing us to have one last business meeting coupled with GREAT margaritas and delicious food.
Review 42:room is a little small, for the same price you can get a much better room in the hotel next door
Review 43:nice room, clean, nice staff, close to metro and NIH if you come for business, also close to downtown and restaurants.
Review 44:The free breakfast was a joke. They have limited parking on site. Otherwise you park in a public lot a block over. Which is terrible when the wind chills are below freezing. Staff wasn't very friendly.
Review 45:There was a bed to sleep on
Review 46:Breakfast was a mess. One waffle machine w/ a 2min timer for everyone. Orange juice was orange water. Sausage was under or over cooked. Toilets were too loud. No parking available in the lot. Luckily we stayed during the weekend where the public parking across the st was free.
Review 47:Though the room was small it was nice....cozy as well. Ice on every floor. Complimentary water. Nice staff.
Review 48:The rooms are tiny the beds are hard & they say it's a queen size but its a lie its a full I know bed sizes the whole time I felt closed in cuz the room was so small the toilet flushing is extremely loud I could hear everybody flushing there toilets at night and the handle was loose on the shower making it hard to get the water tempeture right and I had the heat on 80 and it was still cool in the room parking is a mess as the small lot is full and the spots tht are available are so close to a wall or support beam I would pass on staying here again I have stayed at a $60 a night hotel and had more space softer beds & the beds were actually the right size this was not worth 111.80 for 1 night I won't be staying here again
Review 49:The location was perfect
Review 50:no pickup at NIH after afternoon - I had need for shuttle but late in evening hotel's proximity to NIH should allow for pickup when need of NIH patients/Amer Inn customers who are staying at Amer Inn due to NIH proximity; breakfast is sub par - "orange juice" is really not appropriate word for the orange colored water served as OJ at breakfast; no espresso bar ; other hotels provide WSJ or other national newspapers but Amer Inn does not
Review 51:proximity to restaurants and to NIH; nice staff; safe in room is great
Review 52:Room is a little small. Air conditioner's noise is a little loud when working.
Review 53:Good location: 10 min walk to metro station; lots of good restaurants nearby; convenient grocery store. Good free breakfast. Good price (I got for $125 per night).
Review 54:The beds even though very comfortable was a bit small for 2 adults. Not a real problem though.
Review 55:The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was well equipped for a family of four, and Tue beds were very comfortable.
Review 56:If you have a car, know that the parking is very limited at this hotel. There are other options, but they're a hassle. The breakfast is just okay. The walls are thin, but then this is a hotel that caters to solo travelers and business travelers (hence the limited parking), so it ends up being quiet enough.
Review 57:The hotel staff is super-friendly and go out of their way to help you, and to accommodate your needs. This is a good hotel if you're not planning on spending a lot of time in your room as the rooms are small. It is a great location for those visiting NIH. Very clean, great internet service (free wifi with a strong signal). A good, basic hotel for a reasonable price.
Review 58:It was cold! There was quite a draft coming in, and the heater int he room didn't work. They brought me a space heater, which helped.
Review 59:The room was large, near to where we needed to be and reasonably priced. Not fancy, but clean and neat
Review 60:Room was intended for disabled persons and far not sure that booked such room. But no problems.
Review 61:Good location - 10 min from Metro and NIH. Well equipped. Very reasonable price. Allowed earlier check-in - room was ready. Quiet place. My overall rating is GOOD.
Review 62:It is what it is. You can hear other guests in their room if they're being loud - maybe I just got a loud one.
Review 63:Location: Cheapest in the area YET the closest to the NIH Staff is courteuos and friendly
Review 64:Little tight parking spaces, Wifi was hit or miss, air conditioner only blew in the bathroom. They painted a room on our floor the one day and didn't open a window in that room stinking up the entire hallway but when we told them about the smell they did open a window to allow fresh air in.
Review 65:The room was clean and beds comfortable. Convenient for us traveling to the surgery center. Very friendly staff took care of us well.
Review 66:Towels had holes in them; bedspread stuffing was bunched in one spot;limited t.v. channels; photo on booking.com is very deceiving-it's an old motor inn!; and parking is very tight .
Review 67:Bethesda is convenient to National cathedral(purpose of our visit) and the price was right.
Review 68:Disposable plates, cups, knives, spoons, etc at breakfast. Some areas of the premises are a little 'tired'. Wifi was not protected.
Review 69:Near to NIH. Staff friendly. Maki Maki Sushi restaurant across the road.
Review 70:Overpriced and disappointing overall. Old furniture and carpets; photos showed a little kitchenette corner in the room with a sink, counter space and a little cabinet. Don't know what the photo was showing but it was not what our room looked like; all we had was a small fridge and they brought in a small microwave after we asked about the different room we thought we were booking; elevator didn't wok half of the time we were there; rusty hinges in the bathroom, no exhaust fan; terrible breakfast - watery OJ and coffee, thin waffle mix; pool was closed most of the time we stayed as one of the windows overlooking the pool got broken (why?) soon after we entered our room and glass got into the pool; very tight and few parking spaces@$15 per night. Will not return.
Review 71:Location, easy walking distance to downtown Bethesda and DC metro is the best this hotel has to offer.
Review 72:Elevator was not working for two days in a row. We had a room at the 5th floor, no one offer to help us with the luggage when we had to leave. They have limited parking. If you don't find a spot, you have to park at the public parking lot. They offer to pay from 7 am to 10 am only. This is not they way they advertise on the web. Very annoying Swimming pool was out of order Breakfast is very limited (is what do you expect for a much cheaper hotel). The orange juice... well it was water with some orange colour. Absolutely overpriced for what we got.
Review 73:Location
Review 74:Made my reservation through booking and got a confirmation email only to find out that our room was never available. This is the second time this has happened.
Review 75:Skip the breakfast. It is not good. It is like the complimentarybreakfasts at chain hotels but worse.
Review 76:This hotel is very close to the nih. We actually walked to the nih fromthe hotel. Parking at the hotel was very resonable. The building isolder but the room was clean.
Review 77:The ventilation system is outdated and noisy. The rooms are small and modest (but I must say was clean). The continental breakfast was very limited and not of good quality. Staff transported VERY smelly trash bin on elevator with hotel guests on board rather than waiting until elevator was empty.
Review 78:The positive element of this hotel was the value. It would be difficult to beat this price in June and July for Bethesda. Limited free parking a plus. Great location to metro and Bethesda restaurants including Guapo's Mexican Restaurant, NIH, USUHS, Naval Hospital, Walter Reed
Review 79:Limited on site parking
Review 80:Good location, easy to get to
