Reviews for Kingsgate Hotel Autolodge Paihia
Review 1:Booked 10 nights for 6 people non-refundable rooms but hotel took full amount of money ($4000) at time of booking and charged 2% credit card charge. Hadn't realised that this would happen as not informed of this at booking as I thought our credit card secured our booking only and we would pay on arrival. Contacted both Booking.com and the hotel but not allowed to pay by any other means, which wasn't our intention and cost us more money then expected. Tried the restaurant once but very slow service and below average meal- didn't go back too many other nice places to eat out in Paihia
Review 2:Great location with good facilities and enjoyed our stay
Review 3:the people next door kept going in and out of their room at 6am both mornings and let their door slam each time which woke us- nothing you can do about inconsiderate people though
Review 4:the location and the air conditioning. Also room was very clean. Staff at the desk were very friendly
Review 5:no allocated parking, not a major but did make it a little difficult trying to pack and unpack etc especially with the baby.
Review 6:We really enjoyed our stay, we only stayed the 1 night to take our kids to action world the next day but our kids (6 and 1) enjoyed the pool and the spa the most.
Review 7:That we have to leave
Review 8:Everything the locality to all the facilities, the staff and that is all of them are polite and helpful We extended our stay by 3 nights. Best hotel in Paihia.
Review 9:Sofa beds in the lounge weren't what I was expecting from the Internet booking and the cost was high.. Bedding was old and the sofa beds sheets had holes. The back room was dark like a cave.
Review 10:Excellent location ... And great view in our room.
Review 11:Standard room bed and pillows very soft, not good for me. Room service didn't seem to be an option staff were keen on!
Review 12:Location brilliant and very clean, junior suite really nice (gave to guests)
Review 13:Excellent location for solo traveller with no transport on Paihia seafront Proximity to town Welcoming and helpful staff Spacious and comfy room Peaceful All facilities in room in good working order Swimming pool, and other fitness facilities Laundry facilities Bar and restaurant available Beautiful views across the Bay of Islands
Review 14:The room wasn't particularly clean when we arrived (cereal & chip on floor, toothpaste on cupboard door, hair in shower).
Review 15:The pool for the kids was great & the location of the motel close to town & booking facilities for tours/cruises was fantastic.
Review 16:Pool was a little cold but this is being picky
Review 17:Great location, lovely pool, games room to entertain the children and a delicious breakfast with a lovely view.
Review 18:We stayed in the suite, well worth the extra money to upgrade from the standard room for the fantastic view. We stayed the first night in a standard room, which was pretty dated but clean. The suite is very spacious. Kids loved the pool and spa and games room. We loved the easy walking distance to the shops and wharf. Reception staff very helpful.
Review 19:The only issue we had was when we used the spa. The spa was not very clean and had lots of dead skin and hair. This may have been because we were the last ones to use it that day but something that could be improved on.
Review 20:We had the Junior Suite and were very happy with it. Great view over the ocean and the room it's self was very clean. Upon arrival we were greeted by very welcoming staff who were helpful throughout our stay here.
Review 21:The sofa's were a bit uncomfortable and alot of road noise if you opened the windows on to the balcony of suite but unavoidable as main road outside, quite with windows closed though.
Review 22:Rooms were modern comfortable and a good size. Very clean, handy for shops and restaurants. Lovely view from our suite of the beach and sea. Staff very friendly.
Review 23:The beds seemed to be only double size so we taller people struggled with our feet hanging out. The rooms didn't have any views.
Review 24:Great location in the centre of things. The restaurant has lovely views over the harbour.
Review 25:Checked in on 3/1/16, room wasn't ready until 3.30pm. Outdoor carpet to rooms was sodden and smelly from heavy rain. Didn't care for bathroom sink outside in room space rather than in bathroom. Wasn't happy paying peak rates considering the above.
Review 26:The pool area was amazing. Would return for the pool facilities and location but only in a superior room.
Review 27:The balconie had bird crap on it especially on the railing that looked like it hadn't been cleaned for ages. Some more tv channels would have been nice. The bikes brakes were a bit rusty and the seat kept swivelling no matter how hard I tried to secure it.
Review 28:Staff were friendly, had a good time
Review 29:Check in was not until after 3pm. We arrived at 11am and told check in was 2pm so when we arrived back at 2pm we had to wait over an hour until our room was ready
Review 30:Excellent location.
Review 31:Nights were a little bit loud because of lots of heavily drunk guys in the hotel! They also drank the whole day on the pool and no other guests wanted to spend time at the pool area.
Review 32:very clean, nice staff, good place to start activities, breakfast with a perfect view and everything you can imagine
Review 33:Hosts Tristan & Pete make this a truly special place to stay. They go more than the extra mile to ensure a comfortable & very interesting stay. Highly recommended!
Review 34:Swimming pool was closed on the first day of our stay, no free wifi, reception staff not very friendly
Review 35:Absolutely perfect breakfast, good room, great location close to the ferry, very good long swimming pool
Review 36:Wouldn't call it a bad experience, but the room was quite drab and definitely could be brightened up a little bit. On saying that the bathroom was excellent. Also the television only had 9 channels, which in modern day times is very poor seeing as other hotels had over 50 channels. Could also use a comfy chair in the room instead of 2 hard back ones provided.
Review 37:The location and facilities were excellent and the staff were very helpful and friendly.
Review 38:The room was extremely dirty, dirty bed linen, dirty carpets. Even found a maggot in the bath tub. Provided us with a broken iron that caused a power outage in the room on Christmas Day which delayed all of our activities, staff are very slow to respond. The room telephone did not work and took at least a day to get that sorted, which meant that we had to walk quite a few times to reception especially with the power outage. There are no bins in the facility so u need to keep ure garbage until the next day to hand to the cleaners. If u r in a studio family unit, very small and not very nice to keep garbage in ure room. Crime seems to be an issue, I have stayed in many family hotels, auto lodges etc and I was never alarmed by the NZ Police about crime in a letter to visitors. So beware of the crime. Difficult to get ure room serviced knowing that crime is high and there is no "safe" provided. Food is over priced at the reef restaurant so I won't reccomend eating there. The little town center has many interesting restaurants and take outs that's affordable and the food is tasty. Wifi does not work so that was a waste and just when we thought the spa pool was a winner it turned out to be disgustingly filthy at the end of the half hour allocation. Pool was ok, but over crowded, so good luck if u get a chance to swim. Paihia is beautiful but this Auto lodge and believe me it is more like a motor inn, does not live up to the Millennium Hotel group standard. A very unpleasant experience.
Review 39:The location
Review 40:In the short time we were there (late afternoon till early morning) we had exceptional service from all staff we had dealings with & our room service meal was of the highest quality. Would stay there again & recommend to anyone.
Review 41:nothing
Review 42:super good hotel! clean and comfortable, super value for money. can use swimming pool, gym and private hot pool for free. location is great! staff is very nice and helpful! all thumb++++
Review 43:the food in the restaurant was not up to the standed we would have expected at a top place. One of the meals( stotch fillet steak was uneatable) and was taken of the account.
Review 44:Excellent location. Beautiful view of the bay. Fantastic breakfast. Best bed I've slept in for a long time. Kids loved the pool. We were very happy with this accommodation.
Review 45:The internet service is not free. They allowed you to get only 50 MB per day which is nothing so its is boring to stay at hotel and so expensive if you decide to get internet voucher daily. The other thing the transport is demanding. some times I miss part of confrence because no chattel available.
Review 46:Great location near to sea, shops, restaurants. Comfortable bed. The staff is so friendly. Like them
Review 47:Bed was very uncomfortable
Review 48:Were rushed though dinner as they had another group coming in felt pushy and rude as for alot of as it was our last ever meeting.
Review 49:The room was not very impressive. If we had a room with a view it would probably be better. It seems like the hotel is being renovated in parts so hopefully it will be better.
Review 50:Location is great. The pool is nice.
Review 51:Great location for a great price. Right in the centre of the main road making it very accessible to the local shops and restaurants. The hotel also had bikes on site that we could use for free which was awesome!
Review 52:the TV only have 8 channels and limited WiFi, i feel so boring when i stay in the hotel.
Review 53:the location is very well and convenient to walk to city center.
Review 54:The price quoted was $166 but ended up being charged $169 (credit card fee), which wasn't stated anywhere.
Review 55:Great location in Paihia beach and shopping
Review 56:Noisy cars in early AM! Warming engine's before moving off lot.
Review 57:We liked the proximity to beach restaurants, booking offices for tours etc. Room comfortable, clean light and airy when balcony door open.
Review 58:Could of done with staying longer, Daily servicing of room was too early.
Review 59:Great location, very central , the evening buffet was excellent value , and happy hour inthe bar was good . very friendly staff.
Review 60:Reception staff pretty casual....While trying to to settle my account the staff member from the front desk was actually outside the door having a cigarette!!!
Review 61:Kids loved the pool and the buffet breakfast
Review 62:neat, clean and fully equipped. Dinner selection great and value for money and really good, dined both nights of my stay, didn't have to go to a restaurant in town. Will definitely be back on my next trip.
Review 63:We where there with a work group and had the buffet meal and it was excellent. great chose and plenty of it. Staff were great and friendly. The breakfast was nice in the morning. over all a great place to stay
Review 64:The rain......
Review 65:The hotel was central to everything, the staff member who met us on arrival was really friendly and informed us about the spa, and booking times.
Review 66:My kids want to use the private spa pool, but we are told somebody booked all the time in the evening. Their policy says everybody can only book half an hour.
Review 67:Breakfast and nice staff in the restaurant.
Review 68:The very low toilet - we had to check out two days early because I wrecked my shoulder trying to get up from it. I have only one arm to use.
Review 69:The Staff who were very friendly and efficient. The Restaurant - food excellent and a new range of dishes as well as the a la carte menu each day. No need to venture out in the cold.
Review 70:No bad experience - more a question : I enjoy a light cooked breakfast , but had to pay for a full Continental inclusion , which I didn't have . Could this not be a separate section too ?
Review 71:Having a ground floor room and parking right outside. Easy walk to all amenities.
Review 72:Since there was no allocated car park inside the hotel area, there were no available car park spaces after returning to the hotel at 8pm. There were no available street parking at the back of the hotel too.
Review 73:This was a handy location to eating places and the cruise terminal. We were able to capture the beautiful sunrise overlooking the terminal.
Review 74:It's a bit noisy in the mornings but we did have our door open (we were upstairs) so peoples voices and vehicle noise came in.
Review 75:The beds, the bathroom, the cleanliness, the location, you know park the car and walk.
Review 76:Lovely well appointed room with ocean view and balcony. We were lucky enough to be upgraded by very kind receptionist. The breakfast was pretty average but overall we had a great stay.
Review 77:Our door wasn’t isolated that good so we heard some noise from the hallway and noticed when the lights were turned on out there. However, after falling asleep this wasn’t a problem.
Review 78:The motel is just a 2 minute walk away from the ferry terminal and shops and restaurants.
Review 79:Food provided in the restaurant was ODD. Carvery only offered lamb & not a selection. There aren't that many other eateries in town.
Review 80:Location of the hotel was AMAZING. :-)
Review 81:Very Poor storage in the room, no shelves or drawers, no mini bar or light milk. Expensive basic breakfast of Toast, and the toasters were whisked away while we still in the dining room.
Review 82:Very Clean and Great Staff
Review 83:Glasses not removed from pool side gazebo area for several days. Its not the staff, it seems to be something management has overlooked that no bar staff are allocated to service or monitor the lower areas. Coffee stain on room 222s bedside cabinet; obviously all surfaces are not wiped daily. All round after chatting to other tourists they were surprised a slightly higher level of service is not attained .... bar service down by pool areas, cleaning and removal of glassware daily... they are so close to a higher level it weird they don't strive for it!
Review 84:Location is premium, pool, spa and other communal area amenities are top class! Staff are friendly (all the way down to the cleaners) and seem to be a happy team. Rooms are well set out, Shower was AWESOME! Heaps of parking (though many rooms were full with a tour bus group). Cant see why so many petty reviews as generally this resort is Huge value for the price!
Review 85:You only get 30 mins of free Internet, which is amazing in this day and age, not nearly enough! We ate in the hotel restaurant on our first night and booked for another night at a table overlooking the bay, when we turned up on time, the waitress had allowed our table to go and couldn't accommodate us, so we went into the town very disappointed with her service, but the meal in town was superb!
Review 86:The views from the lounge and balcony were excellent and the proximity to the town/restaurants/ferries was equally good. The pool was very good, but only enough sun loungers for about 8 people!
Review 87:When we arrived after a six hour drive there was no where to park our car for the check in. There was a car parked outside our lodge which was moved at 1600. It belonged to one of the cleaners. Next day (after a really bad day) when we got back to the hotel, once again a car was parked at our lodge and there were no other spaces within the complex. I'd had a bad day and said that I would be checking out rather than go to a pay and display park 500 mtrs away. It seems that the cleaning staff have some priority parking over guests paying $200 a night. Also had to contend with bad noise from a gymnasium vibrating through our room until 9 pm and starting again at 7 am.
Review 88:My complaint was acknowledged and our 3 remaining days were spent in comfort and silence.
Review 89:Wifi was costly and when paid for 24 hrs only lasted half the time. Cafe down the road was free so will not go to Millenium hotels because of this silly wifi policy
Review 90:Proximity to Quay
Review 91:we stayed for 2 nite ...2nd day the room service all they did put extra toilet roll...floor was messy as its ...ntg else been done ,i m not sure if this is what they called service the room. and with 14 month old a room on ground floor always a better option but they gave us first floor room ...we had to carry him n few bags up as no lift.
Review 92:location was excellent
Review 93:The staff were very friendly & helpful. Fabulous location & enjoyed relaxing by the pool. Everything you needed was onsite or within walking distance.
Review 94:Room layout is comfortable. On-site restaurant food is good and affordable. Facilities is all there one needs on a break-away weekend. Always friendly service
Review 95:Beds a bit hard, Rooms just a bit cramped 2 double beds in 1 room not required could have had a couple of soft chairs instead of the 2nd bed for comfort
Review 96:Accommidiaion was pretty good clean neat & tidy
Review 97:N.A
Review 98:The staff was extraordinarily helpful. Advised us on eating joints as restaurant had closed by the time we arrived. Helped with parking the car after checkout & charging camera batteries & cell (didnt have the correct power pin). Very appreciative of these when u have a packed schedule....would recommend the property very highly
Review 99:Great Breakfast Buffet Walking distance to wharf During Booking it stated including shower - it actually got both shower and bath which is great for the kids.
Review 100:The breakfast was a bit expensive. It would have been nice to have bar service at the pool.
Review 101:The pool was excellent. The buffet dinner was outstanding. The location was perfect. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff were attentive.
Review 102:Mattress was old and needs replacing.
Review 103:Close proximity to Paihia Wharf and town. Bar and restaurant offering great views over bay. Food was delicious and varied for both dinner and breakfast. Good value for money.
Review 104:Wifi was not user friendly. Couldn't access the free 1/2 hour wifi either. With a hotel of this size and cost and in this day and age I was surprised it wasn't free to all customers 24/7.
Review 105:the location is excellent including the pool area and breakfast. Amazing views from our 1 bedroom which we upgraded to. Very happy with the room.
Review 106:We stayed two nights a couple of days apart - the first unit had a shower where the water ran around the corner and towards the door. A small issue that did not cause too much problem for us except for a very wet bathmat after soaking up the water.
Review 107:Location was convenient to the wharf. Spacious rooms. Availability of other facilities - Restaurant (reasonably priced), Fitness and Pool. Staff were very helpful and made sure we were welcome and helped in any way they could.
Review 108:The backpackers behind us were a little noisy bit nothing too drastic it you shut the bathroom doors
Review 109:The friendliness of the staff, the location was excellent, the pool, the spa, the breakfast!!
Review 110:The Hotel was close to the water and to the centre and a comfortable walk to the Treaty Grounds. Spacious refurbished room with lift access. Very friendly staff.
Review 111:There were no drawbacks to mention.
Review 112:We especially liked the friendly and helpful staff. The location was convenient to all the sights, as well as the beach. And we enjoyed having access to hotel bikes for a ride around!
Review 113:That i had no microwave lol. Not having a few more days
Review 114:I was very happy with overall stay. Check in was a breeze so settling in seemed too easy considering i had booked 2 rooms with double beds for 4 adults and 4 kids. The rooms were very clean, simple and beds were quite comfy. We had a balcony which was perdect for kids as it was hard for thm to climb up onto. The room service was amazing and i am one to book into hotels just for that. The buffet b.fast and dinners can't be more mouth watering. The selection they provide is mind bottling considern what you pay for 1 person. Kids 2 and under free. I would like to thank the team of cleaners that took the time and patience for us to leave our rooms so they would tend to our needs and for being so kind to our kids as they follwd yous from room to room and to there lovely supervisor who stayed playful and humble.
Review 115:Walls are very thin and if you are on the ground floor and there are noisy people in the room above, you can hear every step! Pool was a little cold, even in summer and was overtaken by another family who had all the chairs/tables and music playing.
Review 116:Breakfast buffet was good. Lovely location right on the waterfront and within walking distance to shops/restaurants.
Review 117:The tiles in the shower room were extremely slippery when wet.
Review 118:The hotel was located very close to the jetty and town facilities. Staff were friendly, and the room very clean and fresh.
Review 119:Paying for Wi-Fi. Ice machine unable to access late at night as laundry room door was locked. No information in compendium about location of local supermarket, liquor stores or medical centres.
Review 120:Amazing view over the ocean. Very clean. Friendly staff. Very close to shops and restaurants. Undercover parking (for suites). Spa pool and games room. Heated pool. Free daily newspaper. Room service breakfast arrived exactly on time / when ordered.
Review 121:The free bikes are mens bikes, and are tall frames. Too bad if you are female and short. Plus went to restaurant on Saturday and it was only the buffet, and had to practically beg to get a meal off the menu. Other than that, this place is EXCELLENT.
Review 122:EVERYTHING. But see other review.
Review 123:Small room size. Seemed quite limited free WiFi for price. Not much variety in hot breakfast menu
Review 124:Comfy beds, lovely pool and convenient location. Friendly staff. Great fruit selection with breakfast
Review 125:only 30min free wifi... if you made it free without a time or data cap, this hotel would be absolutely the best.
Review 126:Rooms were modern, new, modern and very tidy in an awesome location.
Review 127:Wouldn't say we didn't like the carvery, but it was average.
Review 128:Loved the location, so easy just to walk to restaurants, the ferry, supermarket etc.
Review 129:Ourselves and friends traveling with us wanted to have a drink in the bar area overlooking the water but alas there was a convention ( I believe) and every spot was taken by them. It was too cold to sit outside. It would have been nice to have somewhere to have that social drink. Also one very annoying incident was when a tour bus pulled up in front of the units and left it's motor running for at least 15 minutes and the fumes wafted up to our rooms. The driver turned it off, left it 5 minutes, then returned and drove away. Why?
Review 130:Location location , the gardens, pool area.beautiful.
Review 131:Check in over the Internet was easy. When we arrived checkin was prompt. We were able to leave our car parked at the hotel and walk to every where we wanted to go in town. Location was the best! Rooms were clean and bed was comfortable. Will definitely book to stay there again
Review 132:People dropping weights in the gym as it vibrated across the building and was annoying
Review 133:The location right next to the wharf for the Bay of Islands boat tour
Review 134:Room 313 has the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in. After trying for ages to get to sleep I finally changed over and slept in the single bed which was a far better matress.
