Reviews for Baan Taranya Koh Yao Yai

Review 1:Location is not good. No real beach. Surrounded by a very poor community with not much else to do but to just stay at your resort. We had booked 4 nights but left after the 1st one. There are way too many better and less expensive resorts and islands in Thailand to waste your vacation here.

Review 2:Stylish resort, room was just ok.

Review 3:Its quite far to go to "town" You'll need to take a taxi or rent a moped to go anywere.

Review 4:The staff Was very kind. Good service and nice rooms. Relaxing place!

Review 5:Bathroom was poor, is not up to the hotel standard, we didn't have hot water during the 2 days we spent there and the shower was partially stuck. Koh Yao Yai has very poor communications with its neighbour islands, cost us 1200 Baht for a 1h30min transfer to Koh Phi Phi.

Review 6:Hotel sits just in front of a beautiful beach.

Review 7:The beach was unfortunately not a swimming beach which is expected on these islands

Review 8:The resort is run by a family who are friendly and helpful. The restaurant food is lovely although service is slow and the food takes some time to come out. The room servicing happens late in the afternoon but if requested can be done earlier. The beach is the only negative part as it has a large pier obscuring the view and the tide goes out about 250m daily and leaves you with no swimming. When the tide comes in the water is shallow, murky and choppy. The beach however was nice to walk along and watch the many crabs. The best swimming beach lies on the east side of the island. The hotel offers scooter hire for a reasonable amount.

Review 9:Room - good design and initial design idea but on 2 floors and very noisy people above us. Bathroom was not as attractive as bedroom.

Review 10:Very kind staff staff, good location, beautiful view and lovely little pool.

Review 11:check brakes if renting a bike :D

Review 12:Magnificent sea view from the upper-floor room, and the room itself so pretty! Kind and helpful staff, nice food. Free bikes and canoes to explore the area. Great place to stay away from a noisy touristic infrastructure and have an island-chillout experience, even better out of high season (end of October). If beach parties and shopping are what you're after, you might want to go somewhere else ;)

Review 13:Food, unfriendly staff (sometimes in sleeping clothes), only one nice guy who was the only one who worked the whole time and who could speak English, expensive food and drinks, construction yards and noise everywhere, no help or advices for trips, old furniture, the hotel doesn't look like in the pictures on website / booking.com, you get way better hotels for less money, not a good breakfast

Review 14:We were lucky because of the good view of our room

Review 15:Overpriced restaurant, staff does not speak any English except for 1 young man who seems to just not care about anything, very thin walls; you can hear everything from the room next door!

Review 16:Location close to the beach, pool.

Review 17:some things are a little bit expensive but can understand because they have to bring it from the mainland

Review 18:riding the bikes around the island food is good hotel is nice very friendly staff

Review 19:It is a real paradise. Friendly and helpful staff, very well located in the island and surrounded by nature. Can hear all kind of animals at nights and relax in the swimmingpool at any time of the day. They offer free bycicles and kayaks and the beach is just a few steps away from the room. You can hire a bike for 200-250 bahts near the port and reach the hotel in 10mins. Th food they have is also very good, and the breakfast is just made! The show you what they can prepare for you and you choose. Totally recomended.

Review 20:Staff spoke very little english.

Review 21:Virtually the only ones here in the four nights that we stayed. Had booked a Honeymoon Villa, and were upgraded to the largest suite in the resort. Spend the majority of our time just chilling as was so peaceful. Hired motorbikes from the reception and explored the island, and also booked a longtail to explore other islands for the day. Really easy to get over to Noi - just head down to the pier and you can take your motorbike across on a longtail during daylight hours. More to explore over on Noi.

Review 22:I think the toilet needs a renovation to be in concordance with the room.

Review 23:Very friendly, nice and helpful staff. Familiar hotel, we felt at home Clean and modern bungalow very well equipped (kettle, amenities, hair dryer) Beautiful views and garden Very good and clean swimming pool with sunbeds Motorbike for rent (same price as in the rest of the island) The terrace of the villas are great with comfortable chairs and Thai cushions

Review 24:Not the best beach in the world, but nice once the tide was in. Free breakfast was great, but other meals just mediocre.

Review 25:Stunning room with great views (Ask for 1st floor if possible B! is the best ), comfortable bed, great wifi. The grounds and pool were immaculate. Staff really friendly and helpful. Free bikes and kayaks and breakfast included. Amazingly low price for the quality of this hotel

Review 26:Literally nothing around, you cannot sunbathe or swim on the beach and there are no other resorts, any bars, other restaurants, shops around. Beautiful hotel but too quiet just not for young people

Review 27:The staff were really helpful and the food was fantastic there

Review 28:Food is not brilliant. Not sure why people were amazed about it. There was a dish called Baan Taranya with fried noodles, tomato ketchup, raisins, sausages and fried egg on top...it would discourage even the most hungry stomach... The beach in front of the hotel is not nice, most of the sea in the whole Island is greesy and full of petroil left from the speed boats. We had to wash twice our sweamwear for the stains to come out. People also litter a lot in the sea so the beaches are full of that litter mostly coming from the boats. A pity to see nice places like that been destroyed.

Review 29:Place is nice and comfortable. Standard of rooms is high with air conditioning. One of the best places we stayed and good quality/price balance. Nice views on the beach and lovely garden.

Review 30:- the property is really very small, we expected it to be a lot more spacious - Koh Yao Yai is not so pretty compared to other islands - the beach wasn't very inviting for swimming - restaurant too expensive, but food was ok

Review 31:- perfect place to ride a shooter around the island, hardly any traffic at all, much to explore - pool is lovely, but small flies fly into your nose - staff super friendly!!!

Review 32:A high quality, good value resort away from it all. Staff are amazing and warm, the resort is a little piece of heaven away from it all. Island has a great unspoilt local feel.

Review 33:The water in the room was not clear, it was yellow. The pressure was weak and the shower heads were partially plugged. Charges for drinks in the room 120 baht and at the market up the street 15 baht. Even the water in the pool was pretty awful. If you go out on one of the boats and come back at low tide it's a lengthy walk. We stayed in the honeymoon villa. I can't imagine what the hot tub in the honeymoon suite would have been like with the funk water. Breakfast is subjective;if you have the (american breakfast it's boiled meats and limited selection of fruit pineapple and watermelon and canned o j. It is overpriced and overrated. Definitely not 8.6. Hopefully this review gets added, not deleted like the last review that I gave that was less than stellar!

Review 34:The location and the Chang beer

Review 35:The beach is not very nice (but it's the same all over the island), the swimming pool compensates a lot though!

Review 36:Very nice staff! Quiet and relaxing atmosphere, comfortable and clean rooms.

Review 37:Hard to get to with expensive transfers from the mainland

Review 38:The staff made our stay very pleasant and the island was a paradise on earth. They helped with anything you want (organised fishing rods and bait at no extra cost and gave me medical supplies free of charge when injured) and were very accommodating!

Review 39:the photos of the place in particular the beech were great unfortunately the actual place didn't live up to expectation. The beach was very disappointing. The pool was not ver big and was hidden away. For a few more pounds we could of stayed at the 5 star Kho Lak village some 800 metres away

Review 40:The Food was excellent highly recommended

Review 41:Can't really swim at beach because tide is very shallow.

Review 42:Great staff and very clean pool and facilities. Long beach to walk on. Great food. Kayaks and bicycles available.

Review 43:The staff wasn't flexible or helpful. They came across as aloof and mostly unhelpful. This was particularly evident in the male staff. The little flies at the pool were also quite a nuisance.

Review 44:The cleanliness of the rooms. But don't leave anything outside of the fridge because then ants will have a party in your room. The island itself is great, hardly any tourists.

Review 45:Our room was was located in the ground level, in front of their cleaning room, room was really dark and small and unpleasant in all ways. Bed was hard, room smelled damp, there was ants and other bugs in the room and bathroom was really ascetic. Frog bond just outside the room so it was really noisy during the night. We ate lunch once in the hotel restaurant and we found hair and egg shell from our dishes.

Review 46:Breakfest was good, as we figured out that we can order food from the list instead of just coffee and white bread.

Review 47:The beach is not so great, that said the hotel doesn't claim to have a private beach. Other customers were extremely loud and inconsiderate, which was a shame as this place is peaceful and relaxing.

Review 48:The staff there is amazing, so friendly and attentive. Food was great value for money. Also enjoyed the outdoor massage by the pool. Rooms are comfortable with a nice view.

Review 49:Few bugs about ,bring your spray then no problem

Review 50:Location great ,rooms very good for price ,and full breakfast included Scooter hire available 300baht for day

Review 51:Amazing in every aspect! The view from restaurant terrace overlooking the sea, the lovely rooms... the food is the best on the island, look no further! the owner talks to every guest himself, helps to organise your trips..wow!

Review 52:Beach wasn't great, beaches better on other side of the island. Our room was next to building work at the complex. Left after three nights even though we had paid for four nights! Easy to explore Island in a couple of days!

Review 53:The room was spacious and clean.

Review 54:The beach outside is lovely for walks but not for swimming, the water is too shallow and muddy. You need to rent a motorbike and go to one of the other few beaches on the island. Primarily this isn't an island for those looking for amazing beaches. Staff is a bit of a disaster, friendly but speaks very poor English. We tried calling ahead and emailing them to double check the boat time table on their website (which btw isn't correct) but no one picked up the phone (for 2 days!) or replied to our email. The restaurant, with lovely views, serves acceptable food but with constant mix-ups/ confusion by the staff to the point where its actually a bit amusing. Unfortunately, we were badlly bitten by bed bugs during our stay but that could be of no fault of the hotel as rooms were very clean.

Review 55:Hotel is in a beautiful location next to a pier and fishing village and bungalows are comfortable. Pool is nice and garden pretty.

Review 56:Nothing

Review 57:The very comfortable bungalows, the excellent breakfast in front of the sea, the garden and the pool, the free bikes, the staff and especially the manager. The resort location in Koh Yao Yai, a beautifull and not that much touristic island and the very friendly inhabitants.

Review 58:There is no beach to swim , but you can rent a motorbike to reach the best places of the island

Review 59:The staff its increible!! Everything was easy and paceful. We were at other places in the island and this for sure was the best.!

Review 60:Everything was perfect! The staff really were amazing, friendly and lovely :-) Food was the best i've tasted in Thailand. Will definitely come back here and recommend to anyone who wants to stay on Koh Yao Yai.

Review 61:Everything was simply perfect ! The views are incredible... One of the most amazing sunrises I've ever seen !

Review 62:Verry nice place, calm and quite. Best place to relax in Thailand nature

Review 63:Everything~!!!!!!!! It was such a nice experience, wish we'll be back soon

Review 64:Nothing really.

Review 65:The wonderful staff at Baan Taranya made my 30th birthday an unforgettable one!

Review 66:Everything about this hotel just excellent

Review 67:Nothing!!!

Review 68:The location is perfect The restaurant is very good and good value for money

Review 69:No beach

Review 70:The Staff were very kind and helpful

Review 71:Bathroom doesn't fit to the standard and the price

Review 72:Empty Beaches Experience of extrem tides beautiful scenery

Review 73:Place was nice, pool and food was also good. Good three nights.

Review 74:Pool-Area is small.

Review 75:Extremly friendly staff and great food. Good value for the price

Review 76:breakfast: no freh juice, american coffe only, hotel should make an effort for free shuttle transfer

Review 77:nice location

Review 78:It was quiet, not a big tourist island. Great place if that is what you are looking for.

Review 79:LEAVING THIS BEAUTIFUL ISLAND

Review 80:Everything, the staff, could not have been more friendly, helpful and made our brief stay like a honeymoon

Review 81:The owner was really nice and the facilities were beautiful.

Review 82:Quite far from the ferry pear. Resort small, construction zone just next to it - building new bungalows in 05´14. A bike is needed for transport and visits of the island. No walking distances

Review 83:Beautiful Resort, very calm, perfect view next to the sea.

Review 84:Owner or management did not give us the warmest of welcomes and had already charged our stay to my credit card. I would have preferred to pay in cash. But maybe I should have mentioned this in my booking... The telephone number, website contact form and email address do not work!!! Tried contacting the hotel but it was not possible. I was very angry about that, as the island is a bit difficult to get to from Krabi and would have liked some guidance. Internet was ok on some days and non existent on others. we thought it was the whole island that was affected but it turned out that it was just our hotel.

Review 85:Surprisingly well established hotel for the not so developed island. Food was good. Lovely Burmese staff.

Review 86:The scooters available for hire were a bit old and run down, however a few hundred metres down the road we hired a near new scooter and that used half as much fuel and was also cheaper.

Review 87:The view, the pool. The low guest capacity.

Review 88:Lots of ants in the room beach was no good for swimming or sunbathing Bathroom not very nice and very basic full of ants

Review 89:Lovely setting nice size rooms comfy beds rooms could do with a freshen up good tv and mini bar Staff were very friendly and polite early check in was no problem pool area was just wonderful with great views of the ocean. The single cabins looked much nicer than the rooms we were in which were at the rear of the hotel but ok for 2 nights very good service from staff nothing was a problem

Review 90:Wish we could have stayed longer ,

Review 91:I are so glad that I booked before I read some of the reviews , I really don't know how people can say ( they did not have a sea view ? They must be blind )we stayed in a honey moon villa , the 3rd back from the sea and had a great view of the sea , people complain the staff don't speak English , they speak English perfectly , the food was excellent , I will defanatly be going back , please don't read the rubbish that some people have written , I think they want 5 star service at 1 star price , this hotel is 3 star but I think it should be at least 4 star , excellent holiday

Review 92:It seems that the hotel forgot about our booking. Our suite wasn't ready when we checked in very late at night. We had to wait for another 30 minutes before we could check in. Toiletries (soap, conditioner and shampoo) were topped up only when we requested for them.

Review 93:Good view of the sea since we booked the honeymoon suite with jacuzzi. Spacious clean room. Friendly and helpful staff, especially Wee. Being a very small resort, this place doesn't have many tourists, hence it's quiet and relaxing.

Review 94:The staff were excellent. Very helpful, friendly and generous. It was a pleasure to stay here. Food was good, rooms were clean. Small intimate friendly feel like being part of a family.

Review 95:It is a nice hotel overall, the problem is that it is way overpriced. Wepayed 4100thb for our room with breakfast. The room was nice and cleanbut a bit small and basic for that money. If we had payed half, so2000thb, I wouldn't have any complaints. But for 4100thb I expecteda lot more, for the room and for the service. The service would havebeen suitable for a 800thb a night guesthouse, not for a 4100thb resorton the beach. In the bathroom there is fancy rain shower, although thehot water is only connected to the small plastic shower next to it,makes no sense to me. Our room was right next to the pool, which isfine, but we had some trouble blocking the outside view to get someprivacy because the curtains didn't really seem to fit the windowsthat well. 'On the beach' is worth another remark, there wassome sand but basically in front of the hotel there was nothing but adirty old pier for long tail boats, so not really a relaxing place. Thefood in the restaurant was quite expensive, not bad, but the same remarkas the room, too expensive. I think if they want to ask this price theyseriously need to upgrade the rooms, the location and the service! A lotof details are just not right...In short: a nice place, IF it would have been half price...

Review 96:Best hotel of our 3 week trip through Thailand and combodia. We feltextremely welcome, the hotel is located in a beautiful environment whereyou can fully relax and enjoy. Thanks to the location and the excellentstaff I would highly recommend this place.

Review 97:They need to clean the pool more regularly but the worst it go was a bitcloudy. The beach, as with all beaches on the east side of the islandwasn't particularly nice. The sand is full of crabs and depending onwhen you go in the lunar month, the tide level varies drastically. Thereare much nicer beaches on the west side of the island in the south. There resort is next to a pier, which many local fisherman use so thereis some noise from them coming and going on their scooters, and from theboats themselves. It was never to a level that particularly bothered us,but its best knowing this before booking.

Review 98:The rooms are all new, clean, and beautiful. The bathroom was prettybasic, but still much nicer than most places I have previously stayedat in Thailand. The pool is very nice, and we spent many days justlying around there, swimming, and sunbathing. I definitely recommendhiring a moped / scooter when staying. The resort charges 400 Bahtfor pretty small taxi journeys, and you can hire a scooter for 400 Bahtper day, so well worth getting the scooter. Petrol is about 50 Baht alittle and you could travel the length of the island and back again onone litre. There are cheaper places to hire a scooter than from thehotel, but then you have to walk there to pick it up, and back againafter dropping it off so we opted for the convenience of getting it atthe resort. The restaurant area is a mix of some nice wooden tables, some plastic furniture inside, and some very nice tables outside. Inthe evening, there is also some nice lighting in the gardens making ita lovely spot. However, the food wasn't particularly good whencompared to other places and seemed to vary in quality from day to day.If the resort got a decent chef, it would be one of the nicest placesto eat in the evenings, on the island. We ate at Ko Yao Yai village oneevening which was very nice, but pricey with it. Glow Elixir mucked upour order and didn't understand much so we didn't eat thereagain. The best food was to be found at simple roadside places wherethere wasn't much to presentation but the taste and price wasamazing. We found the staff friendly, fairly helpful, and nice, butthey hardly speak any English, which is a real shame. Ok, I don'tspeak any Thai, but then I'm not trying to sell a service so theywould do themselves a massive favour if they all learned a bit more. Itdidn't cause any problems for us, but we could see how it hasfrustrated some other people.

Review 99:Extremely bad experience with staff in Thailand. They very bad understand English, really lazy and unfriendly, absolutely no care about guest. The lie down on table, or on reception desk or in bugalows terrace!!! and sleeping all days. They watch TV serials in restaurant so distracting. You have to call them to make an order, on bill charge highest prices then on menu. For taxi hotel ask so much money. Didnt clean our room for three days. We stay 3 weeks in honeymoon apart. there were ants in bed. We have so many problems and we spoke to owner. We hope it will be changed soon as we didnt leave hotel first day because the place is very nice. For next time we sure book other hotel if the reviews will not change.

Review 100:resort is small and very quiet, beautiful garden, nice swimming pool, nice view.

Review 101:Well....1. The staff almost doesn't speak English, which make them look very unfriendly. They didn't seem to care that they weren't able to communicate. 2. The food is really bad (and expensive). 3. There was a bad smell in our bathroom which could be fixed but came back later. 4. There was a lot of noise because a lot of constructions + staff. Our bungalow was close by the restaurant and the staff woke us every morning. 5. The male owner was focused on making money and didn't seem to care about his guest. He asked a lot of money to bring you to the port. You would not expect to be charged the highest rate for a taxi drive when you are staying in such an expensive resort. 6. The beach was ugly and not what you expect from such an island. You'll better take a motorbike to other resorts and enjoy their beaches (e.g. Elixer). But, the island is really nice and not touristic at all (what we really prefer). There is a nice restaurant at the mainroad with very nice staff members. The beaches on the other side of the island are beautiful. So we really recommend you to go to Koh Yao Yai but we think that you'll would be happier to book one of the other resorts (there are about 5 places to stay on the island).

Review 102:The bungalow is nice, but doesn't have real seaview (although it iscalled "Honeymoon Vila with Seaview). The beds are really good. Theswimming pool is also nice to jump in.

Review 103:Staff couldnt care less if they understood what you said. They NEVER got it right....which was hard to deal with but the location ,price and hotel made up for it.

Review 104:Loved the location. Rooms were very nice and the restaurant was very good

Review 105:Neither view and seaside are fine . Very difficult language with staff, only few words in Inglish; lack of " friend atitude".

Review 106:This island is still fare from too many tourists; easy rent for moto bikes ( necesary because there is virtually nothing for tourists all around) Swimming pool was fine, and clean.

Review 107:Lots of construction--buzz saw and welders by beach, bulldozer by pool. Garbage by beach, which was full of boats news to new pier. Barely swimmable. Staff could barely speak English; was given wrong info re boats to mainland. Poor breakfast--Nescafe, white bread, etc. Small, plastic-lined pool is not first class.

Review 108:The buildings are lovely and well designed; so is the bay view.

Review 109:amazing location and amazing host they couldn`t do any more to make us happy , amazing people Mr Dang an ViVi and all the others

Review 110:Amazing bungallows in small nice garden, peacefully place, hellpfull staff, tasty food in good price.

Review 111:Very nice and caring hotel owner Calm and cozy location Delicious Thai food

Review 112:The food was excellent.

Review 113:The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Review 114:ev. fine!

Review 115:Nice clean area, perfect food, new owners taking care for the guests. Owners Speaks fluent English ( with Irisch accent ;) )

Review 116:Lovely staff, great feeling all over the resort and a nice, peaceful island! Thanks for saving our holiday!

Review 117:very friendly, good food, big clean room, super swimming pool, very nice

Review 118:No tourists, very calm

Review 119:Staff had no attention to service; charging 4star prices for 2star quality; very isolated; staff spoke very poor english; breakfast was really poor;

The Fine Print
