Reviews for Sun God Lodge

Review 1:Sink hadn't been cleaned. Every noise from upstairs room heard through ceiling all night, only had Venetian blinds to cover window and had section actually cut out so light shone into room all night, bed was very uncomfortable. Did not sleep at all. Should have spent an extra $10 and stayed elsewhere.

Review 2:First room we got, tv wasn't plugged in, toilet didn't flush so we ended up getting a new room. The second room, shower wasn't working 100%, Tv remote was not even the correct one for our tv. Blinds were broken and had huge gaps in them. We were so tired that we just hung a huge plastic bag over it and just dealt with it.

Review 3:We stayed here last time we were here and everything was good. Location and price is decent.

Review 4:We weren't given enough evidence towels, but once we called them they brought us some right away

Review 5:Staff was super sweet.. Hotel was pretty cute and comfy

Review 6:dirty room, nothing worked, no heat, sink won't drain, bath faucet runs continuous, 2 lights out, no lights on outside of bldg. asked for dif room, and was told there were none...100+rooms, and 3 cars in the parking lot? lady (?) at desk at night said it was our fault for not reporting it earlier, than called me rude! nobody at desk at night when supposed to be, and in am when we tried to check out at 10:00 am...office was closed? no bill...great! still not a good value.

Review 7:convenient location and allowable pet.

Review 8:When I arrived, there was a note in the hotel office door that they were temporarily closed due to a "water issue". So I had to find another place to stay and can't rate what it was like to stay in this motel.

Review 9:We were in room 28. It would have been a better experience to have a small refrigerator available to cool soft drinks.

Review 10:This is an older establishment that is undergoing many upgrades to the rooms and the grounds. These activities did not interfere with our stay at all. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff always treated us as if we were the only guests registered. The Sun God Lodge is affordable and they are one of the few in Taos that is pet friendly.

Review 11:caution tape on sidewalk railings because of broken cement, water stains on ceiling, two low watt bulbs in table lamps with no ceiling light--impossible to read, broken bathroom sink filled in with cement patches, air conditioner that partially worked but let out a high pitched noise when on, ice supplied in a medium cooler in office that closed at 9:00 P.M. poor quality mattresses, no upgrades since the facility was built in the 1950s. It needs to be bulldozed. You should be ashamed to have it on your site & for over $100!!!

Review 12:nothing about the facility, the young person behind the desk was very nice

Review 13:Understaffed- One section was collapsing, Yellow Warning Tape around it. No air conditioner-not too important in October--might be an issue in July. Has potential to be terrific-but needs work.

Review 14:Location was good-convenient Understaffed-but staff was friendly Charming layout, appropriate to Taos

Review 15:Room wasn't entirely clean- fridge not wiped out and trash left. One of the bedroom windows was unlocked We stayed in the back, which was quietier but felt a bit sketchy.

Review 16:Good value. Nice big suite. Quiet property. Polite staff.

Review 17:The fan in my room the first night made a lot of noise. Too much to sleep in fact. I had to request a new room. The rooms are outdated, the furniture could use a cleaning, the beds are okay but could use new linens,

Review 18:The staff were very friendly and accommodating

Review 19:Exactly 2 small pillows. General appearance of facilities somewhat delapidated. Small dingy room. First impression upon arrival was safety of location.

Review 20:Did get a good nights rest.

Review 21:The outside grounds needed some attention. we had no maid service the first day.. and they just sluffed it off because "they had 27j check outs that day"... but we did get maid service the next day.

Review 22:I liked the location, and it had lots of parking as we had a 15 foot utility trailer we had to leave there after we unloaded for the festival

Review 23:The plumbing was so noisy, when the upstairs person flushed the toilet, it sounded like a rush of water was coming in my room. And my toilet took a long time to stop running after flushing. Could hear people walking around upstairs over me, very loud and I could not sleep. Canceled my 2nd night and booked another hotel.

Review 24:Room itself was okay.

Review 25:Grounds shabby and weedy, some roof falling down and taped off with hazard tape, "hot tub" was 2 feet of cess pool looking water, room ac poor, water went back and forth hot/cold-made for a miserable shower.

Review 26:coffee maker didnt work.the bed was horrible it had a piece of foam on top of mattress, not sanitary at all. The tv didnt have clear stations couldn't watch it. Room was very tiny for price

Review 27:The room was cute. The outside court yard was pleasant.

Review 28:Hard to see enter signs...better looking entrance from road look would make hotel look nicer

Review 29:The room was really nice- alot better then thought from looking at the entrance...

Review 30:We had problems with the Friday room the tv didn't work then they moved us to and room and no hot water and still no hot water into the morning. We got moved to the third room on the 12th and that room had hot water, but the phone didn't work so I like this place, but it needs some upgrades badly.

Review 31:The staff was great

Review 32:No hair dryer, ice only at desk, no tissue in room, no laundry room (apparently ), no mailing address (my package was supposedly delivered to them according to the post office but they said they did not even get mail.

Review 33:The staff, on the whole, was nice. The bed was comfortable.

Review 34:We had a very bad experience with this hotel. We are french and this isour third trip in usa. This is the worst hotel where we stayed. First, our bedroom had not been reserved despite of receiving aconfirmation. The builiding and the garden could be nice but it lookslike abandonned. It is not well cleaned and the bedding is awful. Itseems that bedding have not been changed for a long time. The room wasvery very small. After two nights, we had a back pain. Furthermore, itwas very nosy late in the evening, with women shouting and walking inthe room above us.

Review 35:Outside door light was burned out. Reading lights were both broken and hanging loose. No AC, no refrigerator, no microwave. No tissue, and so many other things that I cannot list in 2 or 3 sentences.

Review 36:The only thing we liked was the grassy area for our dog.

Review 37:Maintenance has really gone downhill--especially compared to my first stay there in 2008 or 2009. Lightbulbs in rooms and on the upstairs walkway were out; weeds were growing through the asphalt;the night lighting was poor in the parking lot.

Review 38:I liked Maria at the front desk. She was warm, welcoming, and conscientious--obviously trying to make sure the traveler had a good experience. Also, the room was exceptionally clean, making me believe the staff really cares about their work.

Review 39:The facility is run-down, poorly maintained and looks nothing like the photos on their website. The description of the facility comes no where close to reality. It was more like a bad joke. To top it off; we were told it was a non-smoking property, but there were little buckets of sand outside each door that were supposed to be used for cigarette, we assumed. One of our rooms featured dog feces in the bucket!

Review 40:It was in Taos,NM.

Review 41:No breakfast offered. Outdoor grounds needed maintenance - lots of weeds growing all over the place.

Review 42:Very convenient to the center of Taos. Nicely decorated. Pleasant setting.

Review 43:Needs spiffing up while retaining the kitschy charm - carpets especially plus better lighting inside and out. How about some breakfast pastry to wash the coffee down?

Review 44:Staff was responsive and friendly. Old adobe architecture and 70s retro vintage vibe with Mexican tiles and wood & leather furnishings. Bed comfortable despite my fears! More authentic experience - not a chain hotel.

Review 45:The ice machine was broken. The hot tub was turned off. The guy at the desk was less than honest (to be kind to him). The place is ancient and has not been updated (or possibly even cleaned...) in years. And then there were the bugs....

Review 46:nothing

Review 47:Air conditioner in living room was not as effective as the one in the bedroom. Also, wi-fi did not work with my iPad (even after the manager tried).

Review 48:Wonderful staff. Our suite was very roomy yet cozy. Loved the amenities.

Review 49:Small room with no air conditioning, based on our booking through Booking.com. The rate did not allow us to have a room in the newer, air conditioned building.

Review 50:The graciousness, helpfulness and friendliness of the host. He was over-the-top welcoming.

Review 51:It was totally not what I expected. The place was run down, fallingapart, and not taken care of. That was the outside. Inside the bathroomwas moldy, there was no ac. The lock on the window was broke. I could goon and on. I paid way too much. I would never pay more than $50 for thisplace and only if I was desperate. Worst place I have ever stayed.

Review 52:Can't think of a thing.

Review 53:Unable to shower due to plumbing fixture was not working to have a shower. More toilet paper, and should have paper towels, or dry kitchen towels in Kitchenette. Need to vacuum more, especially furniture around bedside. In sofa found way too many candy wrappers and dirt/dust debris. Need better light wattage.

Review 54:comfortable and super staff & General Manager. Great A/C!! View was good. HOt water was good when you have it. Not too crowded or loud noises.

Review 55:Needs TLC to the rooms and grounds. Lots of possibilities to bring it up to a really nice place. Rooms need better lighting and maybe fresh paint.

Review 56:Liked the overall ambiance of the facility. Good location a few miles outside the square area.

Review 57:The toilet lid was marked 1997. Judging by the mineral stains in the bowl, the bowl is older than that and should be replaced. The driveway to the room needs repair. The window A/C unit was very loud.

Review 58:We had a nice quiet room, away from the street.

Review 59:There was no air conditioning and no refrigerator in room and ice machine was broken. I was a little concerned about sleeping with the window open being female and traveling alone.

Review 60:It was very quaint and the manger was as accommodating as he could be as it was his first week there

Review 61:The window screen was bent. There was a large gap between the screen and the window frame. Who know what flew in during the night? When people closed their door, I nearly fell out of the bed. There was no air conditioning in my room. I had a ceiling fan and a large floor fan. It was noisy and stayed about 80 degrees in the room. I slept about 4 hours at the most. The two pillows were very flat. The toilet seat was tiny, like for a child. Very uncomfortable. The TV was a tube tv, very small. The only thing that was good was the free wifi. I paid about 80 dollars, it was worth about $30 at the most.

Review 62:The location was good. The gentleman in the office was nice.

Review 63:Not all rooms had AC.

Review 64:It's an older, independent place - which is what I wanted. Worn in and cozy but well maintained. It had lots of personality and a friendly, attentive staff who made an effort to personalize my stay! I also liked the location just outside of the busy old town - felt like an escape after a busy day!

Review 65:If you want the classic 1960s, beginning of the tourist era Taos Boutique Hotel, the Sun God is perfect! OR If you want a 2015 high cost luxury hotel, reserve in Santa Fe, pay, commute, and enjoy.

Review 66:Ruben, the manager, is the Concierge Par Excellence! He arranged for exercise club passes and obtained hard to get, last minute table reservations at gourmet restaurants. After seeing the Sun God brochure on site, I mentioned our AARP membership. Ruben asked for our membership card and provided immediate reimbursement. We appreciate his honesty; a lot of managers would have produced so much red tape and excuses, we would never have seen a refund. We spent two days touring the area and Ruben gave great ideas and directions. We enjoyed evenings and early mornings in the open aired, grassed patio area sitting under ancient trees. The area was large enough for us to have privacy or for us to join other travelers to visit about our site sightings.

Review 67:Plumbing problems. Hot tub closed, Toilet leaked when flushed, shower wouldn't work right. We left early.

Review 68:Funky decor combined Taos Pueblo with Taos hippie artist.

Review 69:Wifi did not work for us. No remote in room, but the office gave me a generic remote that I was able to program.

Review 70:Excellent value for a perfectly nice motel.

Review 71:The toilet and bathtub faucet leak, with the toilet leak requiring us to pug bath towels on the floor. The sink faucet was difficult to turn on, with water splashing all over if one is successful in turning it on.

Review 72:Easy access to beautiful surroundings. Walking distance to nice restaurants.

Review 73:Whole hotel has not been well maintained the last few years; needs attention. A/C almost useless because of poor installation/placement.

Review 74:Rooms in the back were quiet. It was outside the main tourist area, but really close.

Review 75:Personal attention to everything and our need's is the watch words of this place The front staff is outstanding in every way ,the maid staff is as well. Reuben the new GM is very capable and it shows in his staff. Outstanding stay.

Review 76:It was not clean; the sheets were like sandpaper; cold showers two days in a row. TP was on the back of the toilet because the holder was broken; the toilet rocked when you sat on it.

Review 77:Location and there was good sound control.

Review 78:Busted ice machine. Noise from people doing burnouts in the Wal Mart parking lot across the street. The only thing the front desk clerk said to me at check out was "all set?" Would have been nice to chat a little or ask about my stay.

Review 79:Nice little room with pretty comfortable bed. Neat property with lots of big cottonwood trees. Very chilled out, Taos feel about the whole place.

Review 80:Furniture very old, bath tube dirty, heater impossible to turn off, no chair, dirt smell inside the room, bed covers seemed dirty as well, swimming pool is rather a bath tube for 4 people in the middle of a parking lot and not even cleaned.

Review 81:Friendly manager

Review 82:Everything.

Review 83:Staff was nice considering we did not have a reservation! Booking.com did not put our reservation in the system! All motels wew booked. They did give us a room but we found out after one night there was no heat! It was 40 in Taos.

Review 84:No refrigerator or microwave ! Real bummer.

Review 85:I stayed in the back,or the new part if the motel and it was very quiet. There were others staying there attending the run , and we met and exchanged stories and made new friends. Everyone was considerate and turned in at a very decent time.

Review 86:Made reservatiin..no reservation found..no pubkic restroom heater inroom not working staff very unfriendly not enough towles.couldnt checkin early even though room was ready should I go on

Review 87:Nothing

Review 88:The only thing I would add is a hot plate or range to the kitchenette. There is plenty of room.

Review 89:We stayed in the deluxe room with kitchenette. It was away from the road and quiet. Clean, spacious and sweet character. The outdoor hot tub was pretty, well maintained, and the moon was beautiful. I almost don't want to tell anyone about this great secret for such an affordable price!

Review 90:Despite some pretty pictures on booking, this motel is very run down. A clean, kept-up bathroom is always a must for me and the porcelin was peeling from the tub. I know from my research that if I'd paid $15 more a night we could've stayed in a much nicer place. Disappointing.

Review 91:location

Review 92:Don't expect too much; it's good for the price but it does reflect the price.

Review 93:The hot tub was wonderful (open all night and nobody there), the room was OK and the bed comfy enough. It's on the Taos main drag; Taos is a driving town so it doesn't really matter if you're closer. The lawn is beautiful.

Review 94:The room was hot and it was winter, the jacuzzi was broken the one thing that you want to do after skiing.

Review 95:The price is the only thing you have at this point

Review 96:Bathroom is very small, and the curtains would not close completely. I chose it because I wanted local and with character. It had some character, but standard hotel carpet and bed spread.

Review 97:The staff was extremely friendly. The Inn is located across from Walmart and not in the center of downtown. It is easy to access the touristy things from there.

Review 98:Need irons in rooms

Review 99:Location was great easy to find stores and restaurants were close by. Staff real friendly..she gave us locations and name of gum restaurants and bars to go to

Review 100:Its hard to find something I didn't like when I think about the money. Pillows weren't the best but we bring our own anyways. Wifi doesnt work to well but who needs that when your on vacation.

Review 101:If you came here to ski this is all you need, and you cannot beat this place for the money. 30 minutes from the ski slope, clean and warm. Very friendly staff and resident dog. In town so if someone doesn't want to ski they are not stuck on the mountain. Good food all around. 20 minutes from Rio Grande Gorge bridge. We will stay here again. Hot tub also!

Review 102:Carpet needs updating, bathroom was clean but tub in our room was very old. WiFi was non-existent.

Review 103:I was reluctant to book here based on older reviews but a post from a managing partner changed my mind. The room was clean but very dated and the tub had very old water stains in it. The hot water came and went without much warning to you were either getting a freezing cold shower or scalding hot water coming at you

Review 104:Older building is in poor condition, old bathroom fixtures, not well insulated. No hot water at night, although there was hot water in morning.

Review 105:Inexpensive, good parking, quiet.

Review 106:We loved the fact that we could bring our pets with us! The new owners, Dean & Patty are so nice and helpful too! We will stay here again and again. Next trip in Summer so we can experience all the beautiful greenery on the site :o)

Review 107:if you're picky on wut kind of bed u sleep on then this is not the right hotel for u.

Review 108:it was clean n homie.Staff was very friendly n helpful. The hotel is right across from a wal-mart but it's always packed there. it took us 30min to get to ski resort from the hotel.

Review 109:Everything was great. When I had a question for the front desk she was always helpful even remembered my name which was awesome but the WiFi was spotty meaning it was always connect then disconnect never has great WiFi but overall I would stay again

Review 110:Lack of amenities, and some basics, like towels, small frig, microwave.

Review 111:Loved the staff, very welcoming and helpful. The room was clean, warm and cozy. The grounds are beautiful. I've stayed at a number of hotels in Taos, and feel that this was the best value for the price. I plan on staying here again when I return to beautiful Taos.

Review 112:I would recommend having the rooms a bit brighter since the lamps weren't as bright in the early morning. I would also recommend a tiny fridge for storing some leftovers in town. The wifi signal was very weak and perhaps getting another hub closer to the rooms would be helpful although I had poor cell reception in Taos and the wifi signal may be related to that. Otherwise, I had an amazing stay and would definitely come back.

Review 113:I liked the cozy, quaintness of staying in an Adobe building and felt the price was extremely reasonably. The owner, Patty, was so accommodating and friendly she really put us at ease after having a bad/unsafe camping experience in Santa Fe. She gave us great suggestions for the area and her enthusiasm definitely made the trip worthwhile. I would absolutely come back. Not enough time to explore the area.

Review 114:The TV and remote were not great, but I was mostly there to sleep anyway.

Review 115:The room was small, but well laid out. They have used local art and cultural decor to decorate. I recommend them.

Review 116:Poor lighting, particularly over the sink, low water pressure in shower, fluctuating water temperature in shower, no hair dryer, poor TV, no plug in bathroom sink. Reservation was for two but the room had towels for one. No dresser to unpack clothes,no ice machine

Review 117:Cute, comfortable bed, quiet

Review 118:No A/C. Dirty door to bathroom. Shower valve did not turn, water trickled out of shower head. No handy outlet for the coffee maker had to put it under the desk to reach an outlet. Poor upkeep of the room. Just because I travel with a dog does not mean I will accept sub-standard facilities. Room price was not cheap.

Review 119:Not much.

Review 120:Not having breakfast on site.

Review 121:The atmosphere was great, the rooms were charming with Southwest-style decor. Good location, 3 miles south of Taos Plaza meant it was quiet.

Review 122:The room was small and dated. No air conditioning and highway noise was high with window opened.

Review 123:The staff was very friendly and accommodating, the bed was comfortable and the location is handy.

Review 124:Room was a bit shabby and in need of updating. It was also very dark. Bed was uncomfortable.

Review 125:Motel was in a good location, room was reasonably clean.

Review 126:Very basic. The lighting in the room was also terrible which made getting ready difficult. I am only 5' 4" and the shower head was shorter than me. No good for tall people. I was also unable to access the Wi-Fi.

Review 127:The price was excellent and it was a very good location. If you are a person who uses a hotel room only to sleep and shower, this place is fine.

Review 128:The comforter needed to be replaced as well as the air conditioning. Used my sleeping bag. For the price a breakfast should have been included, not a little complimentary taste of granola. The receptionist shut down the office as soon as we checked in. No one was available to assist us with our question.

Review 129:Taos nuances in the room.

Review 130:Deluxe..blah!! Not what I expected..small room, tiny bathroom. Only room for one person. Coffee maker on a bedside table. Could hear every movement from people upstairs, every bathroom trip they made ...annoying !!

Review 131:Ok for a budget traveller. Gardens are a plus. Good location easy access to the main highway and restaurants.

Review 132:A refrigerator would have been nice. No breakfast (although coffee is available).

Review 133:Liked the quiet, the real "New Mexico" feel carried through in the decor, the spacious, comfortable room we were given. I have stayed in a number of motels in Taos, and the Sun God is the hands down winner in value for what you pay.

Review 134:No continental breakfast was offered. If you desire a hotel chain type experience you might be disappointed. I was ok with it though.

Review 135:The room style was cool. Building design is vintage and being maintained. Nestalgic

Review 136:Paid extra for queen bed with view - not only was there not a view, there was only one small window which looked onto the stairway to the upper level. The only ice machine was at the farthest corner of the property - seems they could have put it in a more available place.

Review 137:Inside decor was pretty.

Review 138:Some rooms lack AC

Review 139:Comfy room with nice mood lighting. Within a 5 minute walk of Five Star Burger (a great restaurant), Walmart, a movie theater, and only a short drive from the square in Taos.

Review 140:The staff knock on your door at dusk and tell you to turn on the patio light. My daughter and I were tired from the drive and took a nap. I didn't appreciate being woken to turn on a darn patio light. There is NO AC in the room and although it is Adobe, it got too warm. Bed was tooooo soft!

Review 141:The courtyard....lots of shade trees and patio tables.

Review 142:We did not know in advance some rooms have AC and some don't. However we were changed into a AC room at no additional cost and they were very nice about it.

Review 143:The hotel has Mexican tiles in the bathroom to decorate. The accommodations were very nice, clean and the bed was comfortable. You can open a window if you prefer fresh air. We loved the grassy area that has tables; we used them to sit out in the evening and picnic at lunch. Staff was great and friendly and helpful.
