Reviews for Yao Yai Resort

Review 1:- Most of the staff is not able to understand/speak english. Usually not a problem, but if you want anything to ask, its getting a gambling. - If you are looking for a place with privacy (e.g. at your terrasse), it is definetly the wrong place. At least the massage team, located near the beach in front of the bungslows, will watch and comment every step you do. - No information about trip possibilities, bike rent or the island itself at the resort. You will have to find your own way to get them (150 meters away at a tiny market). Not hard, but this little piece of service could be easily included

Review 2:Nice resort at a beautiful place, wonderful fresh (sea-)food at the restaurant and friendly staff. Beach quite and soft, good to swim&relax, but no diving or snorkeling. Some shops around for daily needs. At least no reason to pay the double price or more for the resorts in the neighbourhood.

Review 3:The room we booked was new and smelled strongly of paint. The personal pool was not finished and there was a construction feel about the place. The entrance to the hotel was very off-putting. The restaurant was terrible. The food was good but having to wait 45 minutes for the first meal to arrive and then another 45 minutes for the second is a joke. Trying to get the attention of the wait staff (even when we were the only people in the restaurant) was not easy. We had to search for someone who spoke a tiny bit of English to communicate that we wanted our rooms cleaned. The pet rooster was not a great way to wake up in the morning. Overall not a great stay.

Review 4:The rooms that were finished being built looked beautiful. The hotel is right on the beach, so the views are spectacular. The room and bathroom were both spacious.

Review 5:Very boring breakfast and breakfast menu.

Review 6:More than a great location, huts are basic, very nice and for this price you can't complain or get it better. If you compare with the big fabric resort Santayai next door where I stayed i Marts, this place is just wonderful, right on the beach. Make sure you get rooms from D2 - D6. If your into Thai food they make very very good food on this small hotel. Highly recommended .

Review 7:Sometimes little more english-conversation with the employees, but finding a Solution was never problem. The Management is very obliging ;)

Review 8:Great view, Great kitchen, friendly employees, very beautiful Place! Especially with our Kids we had superfect relaxing days;)

Review 9:Staff does not speak English very well, but are polite

Review 10:The resort is located directly at the beach. I recommend staying in the deluxe bungalows as there is some construction work near the standard ones. It is the smallest of resorts on this particular beautiful beach. It is good value and the only one directly on the beach. It is in good condition but don't expect 5star as one resort next to it. Beach bungalow with air con, mosquito net, a veranda and seaview. We dod not need more

Review 11:Average tourist Thai food. Poor supervision of the Burmese staff. They needed help from management with food service etc.

Review 12:Great location with a nice beach out front

Review 13:The entrance to the hotel is either walking over the beach or through a really dirty little track on the back of the hotel. The staff was very unattentive. We had to wait like half an hour until we could order food. The beach is always dirty since no one seems to care cleaning it. What a shame. It would be a great beach otherwise. There is a big tourgroup hotel to the south of the hotel that plays very loud music in the evening and turns the whole beach it into a trashy place with many chinese tourists. We came to relax, but that didn't quite work out. I recommend santhiya resort next door. Altough it's more expensive. They at least clean their part of the beach..

Review 14:The price of about 900 Baht per room was ok, but only available through online booking.

Review 15:Yao Yai is the beautiful island, but unfortunatle it is become more and more dirty day by day.

Review 16:I think it’s the best value for money on the island. Hotel description on booking.com is faithful. There is nice and the cheapest family restaurant in 5 minutes walk by the village road.

Review 17:advert shows beach bungalows but our room was away from resort restaurant and overlooking 'bin alley' which was the street the vendors left their rubbish in to be collected, very smelly!!

Review 18:beach

Review 19:Room was basic and had everything we needed, but we reserved a full bed and were given a room with two twins. Transportation was inconvenient and expensive, but worth it for the secluded relaxation.

Review 20:We liked the location, secluded island, good for relaxing and spending time with a significant other, sunsets were beautiful.. We enjoyed the local Reggae bar at the end of the island :)

Review 21:moskitos in room , despite net over bed biting me ... no table/ shelf to put things in the room/ to use waterheater shower no warm/ hot water breakfast very easy wlan free, but slow

Review 22:perfect seaview, sunset, nice cottages, natural sunbeds at the beach, beach bar wonderful garden, lots of plants aircon/ fan, fridge, TV, Waterheater eating / massage/ store facilities next to resort, ferry pier 5 minutes by bike no streets, so no traffic, not noisy

Review 23:Nobody realy speak english or any other language. We ask for early breakfast and early check out. We came in the morning, and wait for over an hour but nobody showed up. And since our boat was already there, we had to left key on the desk and left without saying anything or having a breakfast.

Review 24:The staff speaks too little English to be helpful, when anything out of the ordinary is needed. As examples: We could not get any proper info on doctors or help, when our daughter got seriously ill & We had to leave the island as an emergency very early in the morning and there was no one around and no contact number to call for an employee.

Review 25:We loved the resort, which more resembles a bungalow guesthouse than a resort. Lovely comfortable bungalows, (though I think the water was sun-heated rather than hot as promised). Great views and atmosphere, unspoiled stretch of beach, quite and no hassle.

Review 26:Rooms were pretty basic, if you are used to luxury, look elsewhere, gaps in floorboards, budget end of the accommodation bungalows were pretty ordinary really, would recommend paying for the upgrade for sure, could definitely use a few things fixed here and there, and some updating

Review 27:Great location. Beautiful clean beach, rudimentary accommodation but was charming in it's own way. Food prices were ok, location near to other food sellers and other services, short ride from ferry, friendly polite staff, great place for young kids too. did I mention the awesome view lol

Review 28:Karaoke singing chineese allmost all Night Disco dining and 20 pcs 3 engine speedboats and you have it all right in front or at side of you..... NOT worth the money

Review 29:Sometimes the waiting staff seemed a little overstretched. We booked another night when we were there which they wouldn't let us do at the desk. Turns out they had forgotten to close out online...they upgraded us which was great but would have worried me slightly for the future!

Review 30:The hotel is great. The beach huts are well proportioned and although quite basic you have everything you need. The food in the restaurant is great we ate here pretty much all the time. There is a great beach bar the reggae bar run by Nikky and Barry which is a must visit! The beach is beautiful and pretty quiet!!

Review 31:The room. It was really old and tired and not what I would expect for the price. The restaurant is expensive, we did have a good meal there, but a restaurant we tried on the beach was shocking.

Review 32:The location was excellent and the setting quite charming. The staff were friendly and helpful. Ban rimmen seafood restaurant at the north end of the island is outstanding, excellent food and excellent value, well worth the 30 minute journey from the south.

Review 33:Restrooms smelled musty Shower drainage did not work Asked us to check out BEFORE our check out time so they could check in guests who showed up early No warm water

Review 34:Beautiful location Private and quiet

Review 35:They told us we had to check out at 11 because the next people showed up early - I was completely unimpressed by that - we paid for our time here too, even if it was just another hour. "Breakfast included" isn't very impressive - one egg + fruit (cucumber) + toast [or] yogurt with fruit [or] fruit plate --> would be nicer if it was a buffet style, it's all simple and cheap food; the beach is infested with crabs and the water was nicer to just look at, and the beach chairs were only on the grass which was infested with fire ants (ow) None of the convenience stores sold any alcohol (bring your own to the island if you want to save) so the prices were pretty expensive (70 baht for a small can of chang)

Review 36:Beautiful view, reasonably comfortable bed, daily cleaning, in room refrigerator, accepts major credit cards, secluded, nice longtail tour guy down the beach does an awesome 4 hour snorkeling / island hopping tour of the smaller neighboring islands for relatively inexpensive.

Review 37:A pool would have been nice. Lots of glass kept washing up on the beach, wear thongs!

Review 38:The location right on a nice beach, the food, the laundry service (we had a lot after travelling for a couple of weeks), the massage ladies were beautiful people.

Review 39:Sound of new nearby hotel. I could hear the baseline of music until 11 / 12 some evenings.

Review 40:New garden bungalow only a moments walk from the beach. Comfortable room with large bathroom. Cold shower but not a problem

Review 41:Outdated huts Huts overpriced Don't book transfer to Phuket Pier in the Resort - the charged 300 Baht for a very very short ride

Review 42:Location Type of resort

Review 43:Unfortunately only cold water in the bungalows which is not good if it's raining outside and you come back alreay wet and cold. Everything is more expensive compared to mainland. Only one ATM near the pier, so prepare your money beforehand!

Review 44:The resort is really super wonderful, directly on the beach, bungalows are just after a green grass and surrounded by plants and flowers. Bungalows are basic but clean and you really do not need more. Staff is friendly and helpful, any problem/question they will help

Review 45:Ok as we rode it there is no hot water.Yes it is true, but believe us you don't need it at all.Actually the water is not cold.In the low season was good enough to have a shower without problem. And yes there are some broken glasses on the beach, but this is not because of Yao Yai resort. This is because of the idiot package turists in the neibourghood resorts who are really annoying all the time. The restaurant is overpriced however it is good.Try the local restaurants in the main street they are much cheaper and provide you fantastic food too.

Review 46:go in the low season there!no turists at all...so quiet you can not believe that!We just loved it.The view from the balocony and from the restaurant is just amazing. Can not write it down, you have to experience it...The staff is smileing all the time.Rent a scooter, don't worry it is safe to ride in the island.Try to find Mr. Coco in the north of the island, and go Mangrove canoeing with him (he is not advertised at all) it is a lifetime experience.Visit in a local school, you will love it.You will be not thrown away :)

Review 47:no hot water. water pressure was bad. bathroom no vent so after shower, etc. smelled bad. hard bed.

Review 48:view was great, quiet place, room was ok but hard and noisy bed. staff was ok and helpful but didn't know much about anything. food was so so. owner did not greet us even though he was there.

Review 49:Some of our rooms were incomplete, building work not finished. The staff had to be asked to service the rooms

Review 50:A very quiet island not too built up yet

Review 51:Wait staff really doesn't understand English

Review 52:restaurant a bit pricy, breakfast below average

Review 53:very friendly staff, beautiful beach, cosy bungalows,

Review 54:Under Construction No swimming Pool No information about trips or activities

Review 55:Good location

Review 56:Restaurant slightly more expensive than what we were used to

Review 57:Right on the sea, comfortable room, close by motorbike rental and seafood restaurants

Review 58:Staff cant talk english, cant understand you,for us the room was quaint but bed too small,no mosquito spray

Review 59:Tranquillity

Review 60:Rooms to expensive and very small. Bathrooms very poor

Review 61:The location

Review 62:Room & staff service & food

Review 63:The resort near the beach

Review 64:really beautiful, relaxed, no a lot of tourists and friendli nativ people :-)

Review 65:None

Review 66:The quiet place and lovely Beach.

Review 67:It was a lovely place to stay and paradise island

Review 68:Never believe the pictures they show you.

Review 69:Beautiful beach, the way to there is like walking through a garbage deposit

Review 70:Staff needs to do better at speaking English. Beds were hard. Need to d better at letting guests know about transportation.

Review 71:Location

Review 72:The island is very small, expensive transportation.

Review 73:Sea close to the hotel

Review 74:A bit expensive

Review 75:Thé view the tranquility .Staff very help full.

Review 76:too old furniture and bathroom facilities very poor and not tasty breakfast no entertainment

Review 77:freindly staff nice beach

Review 78:Very friendly staff.Great location.value for money,plus.Will be back.

Review 79:Cold showers. Nowhere in the hotel description does it say there is no hot water. Staff spoke very little English so hard to communicate at times.

Review 80:The location and the food were excellent. Outlook from room lovely.

Review 81:Sea was a bit stingy when we were there.

Review 82:Really relaxed vibe, gorgeous sunsets, great beach, helpful staff especially Okay. Nice place to chill out for a few days.

Review 83:They were fully booked when we wanted to extend our reservation.. Very limited transportation options to get to and from the island from Krabi..

Review 84:We were staying in Krabi on a romantic getaway and decided to explore Yao Yai island for a couple days.. This place turned out to be a great choice. Privacy and quiet- We were able to reserve a room, pay cash, and be completely undisturbed for a weekend. No shared walls/floors/ceilings with other guests.. The perfect antidote to Bangkok life. Prime location- West coast of the island provides perfect sunsets and very calm, swimmable surf. Our bed was a 30 second walk away from the sea.. Not a lot of people around, but it seems to attract good company. And the staff were really nice. Full 3g reception from neighboring Phuket, as well as complimentary wifi. There is an interesting history to this island... And as it turns out, a relatively longstanding and positive relationship between this particular business and the local community. More importantly: the tastiest seafood we found on the island (as well as in Krabi), and a great chef. Everything about it felt good..

Review 85:No hot water but as long as you shower before sunset you'll be just fine!

Review 86:The easy life! Wounderful, peaceful and beutiful beachfront living. We stayed one week extra, tot 2 weeks, and our 10 month old daughter loved every minute of this simple but friendly resort. A bit pricy maybe, but it' s woth it since there are so few places like Yao yai left. Great staff. No reason not to go here! (And def. no reason to pay 10 times the money at one of the nearby luxury resorts)

Review 87:Bungalow rooms were a bit dated. Double bed was actually two twin mattresses. The resort is a little more difficult to reach because of the distance and remoteness. (plan for ~ 3-4 hours travel time)

Review 88:Location on the beach was amazing. Rooms were clean and well kept. The new central building and dining area was very nice. Food was excellent. Staff were capable and friendly, despite limitations in English.

Review 89:No hot water in the shower. They don't sell any alcohol in the stores on this island. Can only buy in the restaurants.

Review 90:Beautifull beach, not many people, very calm. The bungalows are right on the beach, can see the ocean from the bed. The hotel restaurant serves good food. Great deal for the money. Free beer in the fridge :)

Review 91:The lack of Wifi. Only one staff member spoke broken English. The entrance was interesting dragging our luggage on concrete strips located at the edge of the beach the length of a city block....with no help.

Review 92:The beach and views

Review 93:Fair but poor language abilities of the staff.

Review 94:- The beach the location of the resort to the beach with beach front restaurant. Helpful and easygoing staff.

Review 95:To be given the bill for our stay as soon as we arrived was somewhat the start to a poor stay which we reduced from a week to two nights. We didnt not receive a pleasant welcome, neither did we feel comfortable with the prices this resort obviously gets away with charging its guests, everything double or more than the elsewhere on the island. The bed was uncomfortable and noisey, the TV didnt work, the internet, well good luck with that and the shower was cold water only. We would not recommend this resort based on the fact they just havent got the basics right.

Review 96:Yao Yai resort is a wonderful place to relax The staff is lovely and welcoming The owner is very kind and helpful We decided to stay longer in this beautiful island, because we love everything of it!

Review 97:There is no pool at this resort which is missed when you have stayed atother resorts which do have pools. The restaurant is limited choice wiseand the staff dont speak very good english so you never know what youwill actually get once you have ordered. The manager was poor andarranged a beach party on our last night with the yacht sailing club, wewere not made aware of this. Much to our disappointment as it went onwith load music until about 2am when we had to get up at 6 pm not veryhappy as it woke the children up. Found lots of glass on the beach whichworried us as the children could have easily stood on and cutthemselves.

Review 98:Loved the beach front bungalow. Found the locals of Yao Yai veryfriendly and they loved the children.

Review 99:Beds are terrible, felt like sleeping on bare springs. There was a beachparty on "our" beach which was hosted by our hotel but for anexternal sailing group. The guests of the resort, incl. Families withchildren weren't taken in consideration. There was very loud musicuntil 1.30 in the morning. Restaurant prices a bit too high for thequality of food and compared to the prices we are used to in Thailand. We ate at a little local lunch bar which was very nice and authentic.(Situated almost behind the resort)

Review 100:We had a really big beautiful beach to ourselves, the resort is right onthe beach. Locals are friendly

Review 101:The invasion of the chinese on the island

Review 102:I really appreciate the kindness Of Han,the owner..and the quality ofthe service..nice place to relax, read, and appreciate the real life at agood price

Review 103:Only one person was able to speak english - somehow, some of them actreally retarded Food in restaurant and bike rent was overpriced They donot have pool, but they advertised it here.

Review 104:Nice sunset view and private beach Quite place

Review 105:Tranquil beach front cottage.

Review 106:Bungalows are very basics with no hot water.

Review 107:Peace and tranquility. Food at the restaurant. Beach is great for young kids.(no waves)

Review 108:Glass on the beach No jetty (that we were allowed on anyway)

Review 109:The view The menu (especially cocktails) The privacy

Review 110:the new concrete building, the old one looked a lot better. the massage, very expensive, but not very good no hot water

Review 111:clean rooms

Review 112:Prices in the restaurant Level of staff's English

Review 113:One more time we felt like being at home and enjoyed 16 wonderful daysat your resort. Thank you so much. Warm regards Georg and Judith

Review 114:The water was kind of muddy Hard to make ourselves understood, staff spoke no English

Review 115:Great location, friendly staff

Review 116:Nothing

Review 117:It was like paradise! It was so beautiful there. Koh Yao Yay was also a very beautiful island with few tourists.

Review 118:Great staff, very friedly and helpfull. Secluded location, only for those who want to relax

Review 119:Only a few of the staff spoke english. Very simple bungalows.

Review 120:Beautiful beach and water! Good value.
