Reviews for Hotel La Fonda de Taos

Review 1:We wished there was an actual restaurant or bar on the premises for breakfast or a nightcap.

Review 2:We loved the in-room gas kiva fireplace. The room was ultra quiet! Probably the most sound-proofed hotel ever!!

Review 3:No breakfast which is inconvenient for those who are driving up to the ski valley.

Review 4:Located about a 30-minute drive to the Taos ski valley. Skiiers should keep in mind there are a number of other options for lodging closer to the mountain. Located on the main plaza--close to restaurants and shops. Plaza can be noisy during warm months.

Review 5:Great location, most of the staff friendly and helpful. Wonderful old-time ambiance. Didn't like the pervasive ads for the D. H. Lawrence paintings. Basic room was fine but on the small side.

Review 6:Wanted my luggage brought to the room at the same time i was going to the room. Did not like the idea of leaving my mom's car with all our luggage in it and with a list of the things i wanted brought to us. I then decided that i would take the luggage myself. Then some help came.

Review 7:Mark the Clerk at the desk was very helpful and "walked" me through the directions to the Hotel very patiently. I needed help! Also, we bought 2 bears and are happy to have them as a memory of our visit!

Review 8:This hotel is haunted. Heads up, I found out the hard way when I heard steps walking around my room in the middle of the night. Scared me to death. Had to sleep with the lights on the second night. Staff will tell you its haunted also. If you like this sort of thing then you'll love it.

Review 9:great location, free drinks in morning.

Review 10:Absolutely loved this hotel!! Greatest location. We were there on a friday night to Sat stay and got to enjoy the city market and all of the locals selling their goods! It was great. The staff was amazing as well. So friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Review 11:Road construction made for a noisy stay. It was difficult to get into the hotel and parking lot. I think they should have offered us a discount or compensated us in some way. Room was cleaned poorly. Ice chest wasn't emptied and glasses weren't replaced.

Review 12:Location, although it was too bad there is no longer a bar or restaurant.

Review 13:Our reservation for two rooms somehow got changed to one, and then our AAA membership discount wasn't allowed for the additional room we had to purchase at check in.

Review 14:the location and ambiance

Review 15:bed comfort, step down from bathroom to level floor if don,t remember you fall, soaps and shampoos were were not re-issued past the first night

Review 16:location

Review 17:Nothing ' bad '. There's just so much more that could be done.

Review 18:Great desk staff and location. Was disappointed there was no restaurant in house. Room was 6-7 out of 10. I take into account that this is a historic property - which was a big factor in our staying there. Room was a little ' Spartan'. I would think that in a city of awesome art - you would not have totally barren walls. Gloomy. There is a nice gathering area - A social hour with light snacks would be nice. Guests would gladly BYOB. We did that on our own and had a very interesting time with other guests.

Review 19:Could not open our window overlooking the adjacent business without sneezing my head off. (had this problem no where else) I don' know what caused it but I had to keep the window closed all the time.

Review 20:The farmers market was a great suprise! We were able to make our purchase and take them to our room at La Fonda, put them away and go back for more. We did this several times!

Review 21:Great location right in front of the Taos Plaza. There are several stores/shops and restaurants near the hotel. The staff was very friendly and provided great suggestions.

Review 22:We inadvertently booked this room for two nights at the same time a huge "fiesta" was being held in the plaza. Streets were cordoned off and we thought we would never get into our hotel, but were pleasantly surprised when we drove around the block and saw that the hotel had set up a separate parking lot behind the hotel, thus making it easy to walk in the back door to register and access our room. Wonderful!

Review 23:Room was a bit small. Wi-Fi signal was too weak in room because of Adobe walls.

Review 24:All of the staff was very helpful. We received a card and bottle of wine because it was our anniversary. Beautifully restored historical hotel in center of Taos Plaza.

Review 25:NONE... and we have stayed here many times.

Review 26:The staff and how they make you feel at home. The rooms are old style; not like a modern hotel... so if you like old style... well then this is the place. The location is simply the best in Taos; right on the square downtown... and parking is very convenient; they have their own area.

Review 27:rooms are small, pillows not great. for the price I want better pillows. pricey compared to what you get for similar price at nice Santa Fe hotels I think it is kind of overpriced.

Review 28:location on plaza. comfortable bed

Review 29:We regret that there is not a breakfast buffet. Sometimes we and others like to eat and go fast, so the sit down breakfast is too leisurely. Breakfast in the room is uncomfortable.

Review 30:Location! Everything is right here.

Review 31:The rooms are a little small, but very clean. There is no shelving in the bathroom to put your things. We were just above Starbucks and the people in the morning getting coffee were extremely loud.

Review 32:We stayed in a room overlooking the plaza. I loved the style and architecture of this hotel. It's a little pricey for our budget, but was worth the stay. We would stay here again. Staff was friendly.

Review 33:The Hotel, the room and atmosphere was delightful. across from the Gazebo where Jolyne and I were married made it special for us. Thank you La Fonda. Rudy@ Jolyne

Review 34:The bed was hard making sleeping a challenge. I was disappointed because the amazing restaurant that was located inside the hotel closed just the week before our arrival.

Review 35:Great location, cute-cozy room, and friendly check-in clerk made for a good experience, especially for the price. Availability, during spring break was also a plus, most Taos ski valley / Taos hotels were taken or significantly more expensive.

Review 36:We could hear the people in the next room very well - we could hear them clear their throat. Also, we had no hot water in the shower - the sink had hot water but not the shower.

Review 37:Very close to the center of town, close to shopping and restaurants. Nice view of the town square.

Review 38:Room too small for two humans...no place to put bags or plug in rechargers...left our luggage in the car and carried up overnite essentials in bags, still too small. Dangerous step down in/out of the bathroom.

Review 39:Guest services - friendly and professional. Location of the hotel was perfect.

Review 40:It is over-priced, but Taos in general is too expensive, esp considering there is really very little to do and see here.

Review 41:The hotel is well managed, very clean, quiet, and comfortable. There is parking in the rear, but you have to pay. It is right on the plaza.

Review 42:The room was very small and the air conditioning was central to the whole hotel.

Review 43:The location on the plaza was very close to all the shopping and resturants.

Review 44:The mattress was thin, hard and uncomfortable. The bathroom was like a hall closet. That room should be half that price, and only be made available for one person.

Review 45:Too many R.C. Gormans in lobby! He was good but not that good and display is ineffective. A lovely colored wall with a few paintings and a lovely piece of furniture would be better. Lobby look is cold, not inviting.

Review 46:The couple at front desk were lovely as well as totally efficient and at ease with everyone. Courteous, friendly, and efficient -- all good!

Review 47:No coffee maker in room. Wi-fi did not work in our room. Guest computer on second floor did not work either.

Review 48:Front desk were the friendliest people in all we talked with in Taos.

Review 49:Room small (but we knew that going in) Leaf blower in morning on plaza at 6 am awakened us, but we were still on eastern standard time so it didn't bother us.

Review 50:Very easy to unload and get situated. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Location perfect-- nice to walk around and be close to room. Room clean-- bathroom clean. Liked the bottles of water waiting for us, soaps, shampoo's etc. Looking out on the square was lovely.

Review 51:The bed was kind of hard and poor quality sheets rough on skin.

Review 52:staff was helpful of course location was great!

Review 53:Can't think of a thing.

Review 54:I liked the free coffee, tea and hot cider for guests. A nice touch.

Review 55:In the heart of Taos. Easy drive to both ski resorts Great shopping, plenty of food places.

Review 56:None

Review 57:Location, rooms atmosphere

Review 58:No complaints

Review 59:Location right on the Plaza.

Review 60:Poor air circulation in shared suite. Very warm/close.

Review 61:Location, price/value, cafe

Review 62:located on the square where you want to be in Taos; walking distance to many shops, galleries, 5 & dime and restaurants/bars!

Review 63:Staff helpful. Loved the atmosphere. Sorry we had only one evening there.

Review 64:The room was cold

Review 65:Location

Review 66:Could hear everything that went on in adjoining rooms

Review 67:Great location - great historic building. Coffee shop attached.

Review 68:We like the location and the accommodations. Feels upscale. Linens are very nice.

Review 69:Small room. Few amenities.

Review 70:Location - walk to shops. Easy, convenient parking.

Review 71:No bad experience. I will be glad when you get a bar and restaurant in the hotel.

Review 72:I loved being in a historic hotel so close to the plaza.

Review 73:A tad expensive.

Review 74:Fabulous location. Comfortable bed. Nice staff.

Review 75:The glass window in the floor of our room looking down into the Lobby.

Review 76:Being a short walk from everything was great and the hotel is absolutely beautiful!

Review 77:Parking and no restaurant.

Review 78:Convenient - in plaza.

Review 79:Location, location, location.

Review 80:All of the experience

Review 81:Nothing

Review 82:Historic area, shopping, and good food.

Review 83:parking on ice

Review 84:Proximity to downtown.

Review 85:I can't think of a dislike.

Review 86:The room was beautifully decorated and very clean!

Review 87:Terrible dinner at hotel restaurant. Uncomfortable bed and pillows. Had to pay for hotel parking.

Review 88:Location. Ambience.

Review 89:No coffee or tea in room was only possible complaint

Review 90:Great location for Taos old town Beautiful room and well provided

Review 91:Small space for the price.

Review 92:dark

Review 93:Great location, friendly staff with good meal recommendations. Room a little small, but clean and comfortable. Nice to have windows that opened!

Review 94:Could hear voices next door as if they were in our room. Fortunately, they were mostly silent.

Review 95:Location, character

Review 96:Nothing.

Review 97:Easy to get to other places I wanted to see like the Taos Pueblo, art, pow wow.

Review 98:I booked two rooms. One one was spacious and acceptable. The other room which was the same price was extremely small and the bed was broken down. You could hardly turn around in the room. There was a step up to the bathroom which was dangerous in the middle of the night. There was no thermostat for the air conditioner. I can not believe that they would give us two rooms so completely different! I spoke to the front desk and he said "well, it is an old hotel!" I understood that but there is no reason for broken down uncomfortable beds!!! No adjustment was made! I will not stay at this hotel again.

Review 99:I liked only the location.

Review 100:The wifi did not reach our room. It would be nice if the free coffee was available in the mezzanine, rather than having to present your key card down in the coffee shop attached to the hotel.

Review 101:Rooms were cozy and comfortable.

Review 102:Nothing, really. The facilities are a little limited, but that really wasn't a problem.

Review 103:Love the location-very convenient for everything. The staff was wonderful, the interior was beautiful. It's a lovely hotel.

Review 104:dresser/desk and room itself could be a little larger.

Review 105:historical feel, window could be opened, view of plaza, convenient parking (fee waived), ethernet cable (faster than WiFi), nice restaurant, friendly staff

Review 106:The shower took a long time to warm up but once it got going it was great. Needed cutlery, scissors etc.

Review 107:Location of the hotel & cleanliness. The massive king bed was super comfortable. Hotel was very quiet and rooms were spacious.

Review 108:We had no hot water in the morning, which was fixed by the next day. We could never get a Wi-Fi signal in our room.

Review 109:Bed was very comfortable. Location is great and free coffee in the morning at the coffee shop!

Review 110:Small room and very thin walls...... got a call from the front desk saying we were too loud at 10:00 at night ?? We were laughing out loud watching a movie ??? I could hear conversations in the room next door !!!!!!!!!

Review 111:The weather in Taos can change fast, but the heater in the hotel reacts slowly. Several nights I went to bed freezing because the temperature dropped faster than my room could compensate. It was okay by morning, but uncomfortable in the room for hours at a time.

Review 112:The location is perfect. You can spend a week without a car, walking to a great variety of sites.

Review 113:Our room was a bit cramped.

Review 114:The lower and upper lounge areas are beautiful and the DH Lawrence paintings (which guests can be shown free of charge) fascinating.

Review 115:Unfortunate encounter with a skunk outside our window! It is the pitfall of being on the plaza side and near woodlands!

Review 116:We especially enjoyed the restaurant, Mosaic. Location cannot be beat, within strolling distance of museums, shops, restaurants. Staff was friendly, helpful. Room comfortable. Loved staying in a bit of history.

Review 117:Sofa bed of fair quality. Had to make up the sofa bed as would not close otherwise. Pushy Gorman salesman in lobby

Review 118:Suite design. Friendly staff.Location

Review 119:Thought the price way too high for what we got. For that price a breakfast should be included. Since the town rolls up the sidewalk at 6 pm staying on the Plaza is not an advantage.

Review 120:The bed was very comfortable.

Review 121:I can't think of anything I didn't like.

Review 122:Looks. History. Friendliness and attentiveness of staff. Ease and value of parking. Location, location, location. Restaurant food, staff, beer and wine selection. Room. Nice place to relax. Relaxed atmosphere, but impressive historical look I really like. I hope they don't change anything!. I will go back. (these are not in order of importance).

Review 123:Very small room--hard to move around in; the room technically "has AC," but not sufficient to cool the room--rather hot and stuffy; loud if you are facing the plaza; you are paying premium prices to be on the plaza, not for the room. In my opinion, the cost of the hotel was very high for what you got for the money. Taos is easy to find your way around in--if I went again I would stay at a more reasonably priced and better maintained location further from the plaza. But, if you really like 'historic' hotels, this will probably suit you fine.

Review 124:location on the plaza is convenient; friendly and helpful staff; complimentary coffee from the Starbucks franchise in the lobby; parking is handy, even though you have to pay for it.

Review 125:Bathroom design is just plain inconvenient and almost unworkable. Noflat surface. Have to carry toiletries in and out except for a smallglass shelf on a pole. Everything is too high--towel bars, shower head, hooks on the door. Even a normal size adult has difficulty reaching. Theoutlets in the rooms are inaccessible and there are not enough. Therenovation was made to be "authentic" but no attention to howmodern life works.

Review 126:Staff is superb--helpful, knowledgeable, friendly. Location, right inthe middle of the Plaza, the center of all that is Taos for visitors.Good restaurant newly opened. Comfortable bed. Comfortable couch inliving room of suite.
