Reviews for Casa Benavides Inn

Review 1:The housekeeping could be better. My pillow had a moldy smell as if the pillow or pillow case spent too much time before it was put in the dryer.

Review 2:Love the decorations and the breakfasts are just amazing. After having a delicious breakfast and skiing all day I didn't need to eat lunch! Thank you,

Review 3:The rooms were spacious and nicely decorated for the southwestern feel, but the mattress in the room we stayed was worn and sagging. Not the best nights sleep.

Review 4:The location was perfect! Within walking distance to the Plaza and the shops. The staff was friendly and professional. The breakfast was excellent!

Review 5:Excellent location! Beautiful building. Comfortable room. Very quiet! Breakfast was very good and excellent service by the waitress! Loved the granola! This is now our "go to" place for Taos.

Review 6:Arrived for the 7:30 breakfast at 7:45 and the muffins, which I had hoped to take to go, still were 30 minutes away from being done. The staff often were nowhere to be found despite a sign on the lobby to find them in the kitchen. I really wish the lobby was open past 7:00 pm with a fire in the great room for guests.

Review 7:The building and rooms were lovely with an exceptional location and ample parking. It was quiet, serene and really perfect in so many ways.

Review 8:No wifi or coffee-making facilities in our room.

Review 9:Very well maintained traditional property with lovely old style rooms. Very centrally located so you can walk to the plaza and many other interesting galleries and museums. Individually prepared breakfast on real plates with real cups (no plastic). Many rooms have small patios and there is a central garden area to sit outside.

Review 10:No wifi in rooms! Heater didn't work! Staff at breakfast was half asleep

Review 11:Main building was comfy, nicely decorated and beautiful art, great location, rooms not as nice as main area.

Review 12:It just didn't live up to expectations given the cost. Staff were courteous but not as friendly as many other people I've interacted with. No accommodations were made for food allergies even with advance notice.

Review 13:Pretty building, nice artwork, nicely decorated rooms.

Review 14:The location is ideal. The staff really care about about the comfort of their guests. The breakfasts were excellent and the afternoon tea with fresh baked goodies was a lovely touch.

Review 15:The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were quiet. It was a great place to relax on a sisters' weekend. By far, though, the food was amazing! I never eat that much at breakfast but it was all delicious!

Review 16:Nothing to say here it was too close to perfection!

Review 17:This would have to be one of the best places to stay in Taos, for service and comfort, the breakfast is amazing and the afternoon tea such a delight, it is central to everything, we loved it here!

Review 18:The only downside is that the hotel is right next to a main road, and there was a motorcyclist (or a few) who kept driving back and forth, maybe 6 to 8 times, and it was extremely loud.

Review 19:This was my second time staying at Casa Benavides and I just love this place so much! The grounds and rooms are beautiful, the staff is gracious, the breakfast is lovely and it's just off the main road so it's a short walk to the town square. It feels like a home away from home.

Review 20:Casa Benevides had an afternoon tea with homemade cakes and cookies that were wonderful! The room was spacious and very nicely furnished and clean. The staff was very nice. Walking distance to downtown Taos.

Review 21:The owners and staff are very hospitable and his is obviously a well-loved institution I pin Taos in a great location. However, the rooms really need a deep cleaning. While appearing clean on the surface, there are heavy layers of dust in many areas. I suppose spiders are normal in This part of the country too, but I don't find them charming in my bedroom. As expensive as this inn is, it should be spotless.

Review 22:The owners are very hospitable, and this is obviously a well loved institution in Taos in a great location.

Review 23:Staff was sometimes unavailable, no in room coffee. Limited ability to accommodate dairy free breakfast. Parking lot and access to room were not lighted.

Review 24:Location

Review 25:TERRIBLE lumpy bed!! Bed covers too heavy/bulky. Lousy lighting in room. Unattractive curtains (torn). No room to put anything in bathroom.

Review 26:Location & parking, nice decor, delicious breakfast and baked goods. Nice shower.

Review 27:Not a bad experience, but an observation: the lighting was a little dim in the rooms.

Review 28:The rooms were very comfortable. The afternoon tea and the included breakfast were great.

Review 29:king bed was a bit soft, rolled to middle; neighbor's outside patio light shone through door, even with screens down, thru the night; closet light out; tv way out of date.

Review 30:location near plaza and amenities; staff was terrific in responding to every need; room was interesting and cozy.

Review 31:The doors on the room are glass covered by a plastic mini blind. One morning the room was brightly lit until 1:00AM since the neighbor was out and left his light on. There is a lot of unrealized potential here. Air was a problem.

Review 32:Location, breakfast

Review 33:The courtyard outside of our room needed some attention.

Review 34:The breakfast was unbelievable!! It was like a feast! All of it delicious! And the cost of it was included in the price of the room! The staff were superb! And i've never seen such a beautifully decorated breakfast room, with all the tables preset with gorgeous dishware and linens. The room we stayed in was furnished with unique antiques, and was very comfortable. Great location for walking around town! Very interesting lobby, with great art on the walls.

Review 35:Not as depicted in pics. Thought was getting a southwestern styled room (in Taos afterall) as saw in pics, and got put in a Victorian room. Hot tub wasn't in common courtyard, way on other end of complex with no lights. No wifi at all. Nothing in area to do after 9pm, everything closed up in that area (within walking distance).

Review 36:Tea was fun. Breakfast was acceptable. Staff was very pleasant. Room was clean.

Review 37:Nothing

Review 38:Loved our stay!!! Wish we could have stayed longer. Our whole experience was tremendous. We will be back as soon as we can. The comfort, friendliness and incredible sit down, home made breakfast with a real place setting was amazing! No plastic. No buffet! A great surprise all the way around!! Comfy bed. Umm

Review 39:Pillows were terrible, soap and shampoo were poor quality.TV in the painted desert was an old crt TV should have been flat screen and no WiFi in room.

Review 40:Very quite, nice staff, breakfast was great and very clean.

Review 41:TV cable service was poor work faulty reception.

Review 42:Spacious room. Excellent breakfast with great service. We were betty satisfied with the inn for our two night stay in Taos.

Review 43:Our bed squeaked loudly and was a bit lumpy. We noticed that it had been wired around the bed posts, so I think that should be addressed. Also didn't like that wi-fi was available only in the main building, particularly b/c I didn't have phone service anywhere in Taos.

Review 44:The place was a winner for the money - we were upgraded to a king room that was spacious and pretty.

Review 45:We have always been treated with the most respect from Tom, Barbara and the entire staff... Been staying here since the early 90's... Taos lodging... They are the top 3 places in my mind....

Review 46:The room we were in was the room across from the office. The picture on the side of the bed where I slept was an angry Indian woman...not what you would wan to wake up to. There was a beautiful handmade paper picture above the lamp. Maybe that could to exchanged for the ugly woman!

Review 47:The breakfast is the reason for our return visits.

Review 48:Toilet leaking, not repaired during stay. Mentioned to cleaning person on first day, not repaired when we left. Towels were completely soaked next morning.

Review 49:location

Review 50:Older (as in historic) facility... Very quaint. The afternoon tea and breakfast were a 12 based on 10. The staff was friendly and we'll informed.

Review 51:A more comfortable bed and better quality linens/pillows and towels would have made this place almost perfect! Also the note of warning not to take the decor was detracting from the decor.

Review 52:Beautiful architecture and great location. Interesting artifacts and lovely landscape. Friendly staff and good breakfast.

Review 53:Seriously- how hard is it to put in wi-fi through the building?

Review 54:The location alone would have been worth it, but the rooms were great, the hot breakfast over the top great, and the afternoon tea with an assortment of cookies and cakes totally unexpected.

Review 55:the bed was too soft and wifi only available in the lobby area.

Review 56:Attention to details everywhere in the hotel. Authentic place. Wonderful breakfast. perfectly located.

Review 57:All staff members were helpful, friendly and welcoming. Loved our room with big comfy bed and exposed timbers. The full breakfast was delicious and generous, with beautiful table settings. Location made easy walk into town by little shops and galleries.

Review 58:Would be nice to have wifi in the room. Not convenient to access in dining area.

Review 59:The breakfast staff were totally wonderful. Food was delightful and the schedule for breakfast was quite agreeable ending at 9:30. Very relaxing.

Review 60:Nothing. Everything was very nice. A few maintanance issuses probably need to be addressed but nothing horrible.

Review 61:The staff was exceptional. Have never been treated at other Taos facilities as well as we were here.

Review 62:it would be great if they had like a little mini bar set up in the common area so people could sit and sip and enjoy the inn without being in their room

Review 63:quiet, beautiful, friendly, trusting peoplePe

Review 64:As an older couple, we find the trend to dim lighting in hotels, a money saving move I assume, to be frustrating. We can not read at night with only 40 watt bulbs under dark shades. They need either overhead lights or some floor lamps, and they need larger wattage bulbs.

Review 65:The porch was lovely, the patio was beautiful, and the building was exquisite. There was plenty of room and the TV was a good size. It was excellently clean as well.

Review 66:No coffee pot in room and breakfast not until 7:30 or 8. Had to hunt down coffee in kitchen. Got a call a call and email saying I hadn't paid my bill. I had paid it right after breakfast, having to get someone from kitchen to take care of my bill. Then clerk must not have found receipt as later got another email.

Review 67:Convenience of being close to center of town.

Review 68:Nice to include breakfast but all food was rather bland with no flavor

Review 69:The proximity of here we were staying to the plaza and all the other gallerys' and restaurants.

Review 70:Hot tub advertised on website, but we found it torn apart. Bit disappointed in this.Suggest updating description to reflect this amenity no longer available.

Review 71:Great location, quiet and clean. Tasty breakfast with homemade baked goods, yogurt and granola along with eggs.

Review 72:The room was not very clean. The floor hadn't been swept, and the bathroom sink had not been cleaned from previous visitors.

Review 73:The wonderful breakfast!

Review 74:We had hoped to use the hot tubs but one was completely demolished just outside our room and the other was not very clean and in a remote location - a little scary.

Review 75:Location is great! Room was lovely and bed so comfy! Staff was friendly and most helpful.

Review 76:Only drawback was the lack of WiFi in the rooms...but perhaps I should list that as a "plus"!

Review 77:The breakfast was outstanding! Both in terms of quality, quantity and the decor of the dining room. Same for the afternoon "tea".

Review 78:One bed of the two was a bit lumpy / soft on one side

Review 79:Lots of work has gone into making older buildings into an Inn with charm. The salon and dining areas are atmospheric and comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Review 80:NO WiFi available in guest rooms. WiFi limited to 1 room in main building. Main building locked and inaccessible after 8pm front desk cannot give change for bills which made it difficult to leave tips for staff.

Review 81:This B&B was beautiful. Staff was helpful and friendly. Afternoon tea with lots of nice cookies/cake

Review 82:Upon our arrival in the afternoon, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that we had received a free upgrade to the Tio Vivo suite which is a beautiful room complete with king size bed and outdoor seating on a balcony. the afternoon social hour included an amazing array of freshly baked cookies and treats which were unbelievably delicious. The breakfast also offered a substntial selection of homemade granola with fruit and yogart, delicious fresh baked muffins and a selection of breakfast entrees! Aside from the incredible food offered, it is centrally located just a short walk from the main plaza of Taos. The only small inconcenience was not having wifi in the room as it is offered only in the lobby area during business hours. As for eating out, the hotel staff recommended Orlando's which was a short 2 mile drive from the hotel and it was well worth the drive. Great New Mexico cuisine for very reasonable prices!

Review 83:Casa Benevides was located just off the main street, which was very busy. However, the Casa was quiet, easy to find, and had good parking. Our room was in a small patio. It was larger than we expected with a king bed and full bath. Very comfortable and clean. Breakfast was served in a dining hall with a variety of choices available, both cold and hot. Very friendly staff.

Review 84:On arrival couldn't find office. {need a sign} No wifi in rooms. Had to move to another room because w didn't have a TV!

Review 85:. The owner is very nice & will work w/you. Breakfast is very good, beautiful dining area. & patio. Close to the Plaza. Would stay there again because of the way the owner handled things.

Review 86:The lighting in the room was a little weak for reading.

Review 87:the staff was really friendly and even loaned me an umbrella to take a walk. The afternoon tea with at last 8 different kinds of cookies and pastries was a rare treat and the breakfast was outstanding, serving from homemade cereal, all kinds of fruits, eggs, french toast, etc. The location was perfect.

Review 88:Genuine Southwestern feel, with a tasteful décor of fine examples of Hispanic and native American arts and crafts of the area. Some rooms have working fireplaces. The breakfasts are wonderful, served in a lovely room. And it's just two blocks from the main plaza.

Review 89:I definitely DID NOT have a bad experience. I do wish my room ( Navajo) was brighter, in terms of light...was a little too dark for me, and that all the rooms had Wi-Fi.

Review 90:What I liked most about my stay was the comfort, a very friendly and helpful staff, and location that provided me ease of walking distance to all of the galleries and places to eat.

Review 91:Wish there was wifi in the rooms.

Review 92:Breakfast was wonderful! The location is great, close enough to walk, but not right in the middle of the commotion. The rooms are very comfortable and nicely decorated.

Review 93:The bed was much too soft for our liking. The shower had very low water pressure, so it took a long time to come clean under the sparse water stream. A bath would have been impossible.

Review 94:The location is very convenient to shopping and restaurants. The breakfast was very good and the afternoon pastries excellent. the staff was very friendly.

Review 95:Don't come expecting the greatest TV reception or TV. WiFi is iffy and primarily in office and reception area. Breakfast good variety but average quality.

Review 96:Liked the location, the staff, fireplaces in the room (although we didn't use it), They upgraded our room without our request or additional charge since they had such available. Tea time nice touch.

Review 97:WiFi in the room would be nice, but then again it forced us to disconnect and simply relax which is what we came to do.

Review 98:Friendly staff. Charming, clean and comfortable room. Walking distance to everything. The made-to-order breakfast, tea time cookies and the (really hot) hot tub were a nice bonus. Will definitely be staying here next time we visit Taos.

Review 99:Nothing. Maybe if you needed to have internet in your room rather than in just the communal areas it might be a bother. I didn't mind that.

Review 100:We stayed in winter and a fire in our room with unlimited wood supply! Huge comfortable bed and spacious attractive room. The breakfasts were excellent and afternoon tea was a lovely unexpected treat.

Review 101:The rooms are spacious and warm. The staff is very friendly. They make sure your stay is perfect. This is the only place we stay at when we go to Taos.

Review 102:Magnificantly decorated adobe inn with friendly service and excellent homemade New Mexican food. World class accomodations. My new go-to place to stay when visiting Taos.

Review 103:Heater didn't work in living room and kitchen. The low was -9 in Taos that night. More attention to details with cleaning will make it much better also. Bathroom was not very clean.

Review 104:Location.

Review 105:My son and I were on a much needed vacation and the spacious enchanting room had such good Karma. We especially enjoyed the hot tub. Great breakfast of fresh fruit & choice of prepared hot meal. We will return!

Review 106:The room could use a little more bedside lighting for reading

Review 107:The location, the fireplace, the ambiance, the staff and the owners, breakfast, everything!

Review 108:The king bed in our room sagged a little in the middle but was soft and luxurious.

Review 109:Everything was simply wonderful. The room had a great fireplace that made the room super cozy and romantic. Even the soaps and lotion provided in the room were extra special. The breakfast was delicious and the woman working it has been there 15 years and you can tell she loves it! We would have been happy with basic breakfast but it was so much more, including homemade tortillas and Mexican eggs. The location is perfect if you want to walk around downtown Taos from your hotel. We can't say enough good about this place, it was so charming. We will be back! Thank you.

Review 110:I have stayed at several locations in Taos. Casa Benavides is absolutely the BEST. I have stayed at the El Monte Segrado and honestly Casa Benavides is so much better. From the staff, rooms, and breakfast it is a stand out! Love it!

Review 111:No coffee maker in room. Only 1 glass for water and no bottled h2o offered. No internet in room, only in main building. TV reception was poor. Although the place is pretty, nothing felt inviting.

Review 112:Beautiful grounds and rooms, wonderful owners and staff, and delicious food. Attention to detail is fantastic. I loved all the colors in the breakfast room!

Review 113:could have used another flat surface in the room, not really any space for toiletries. Chairs in the Cowboy room not too comfortable.

Review 114:Very friendly staff/owners. Cute Inn, liked the porch and yard area. Close to many in town shops and restaurants, close enough to drive easily to many Taos attractions.

Review 115:Liked everything.

Review 116:Large, comfortable room, convenient location, very friendly staff, on-site free parking, full breakfast each morning in an airy high-ceiling Southwestern style room, and an afternoon tea with freshly baked cookies, pastries, etc.

Review 117:Rooms were extremely well kept and authentic to the Taos style. The group breakfast was excellent. Walking distance to the town center and Eskes Brew Pub.

Review 118:The decor in the room was so lovely we just wanted to stay there and enjoy looking at it. Breakfast room also gorgeous. Loved the granola. Convenient parking.

Review 119:What's not to like????

Review 120:The people were welcoming and friendly, the facility was lovely, the breakfast and tea exceeded my expectations. Over all a great place. Perfect location for us.

Review 121:Beds need softer pillows.

Review 122:Fabulous breakfasts, delicious homemade Granola. The owners are lovely people and really but a lot of effort into their B&B

Review 123:The size of the bath was small, not that there was room for much more. It was a bit of a hassle to have to go into the main building to use wi-fi. That being said, I had an opportunity to meet other guests I would not have had if I was using in room service.

Review 124:I usually stay at a chain hotel when I visit Taos. This trip I decided to try a bed and breakfast type of accommodation. I couldn't have picked a better place. The staff for the most part are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was amazing. The common area where wi-fi is accessible is comfortable and inviting. I plan on returning next fall. Most people staying were repeat guests. The location is the best for walking about town. You can easily park your car and never need to drive anywhere. Food, shopping and galleries are all within walking distance.

Review 125:The bathroom was quite large, but had only one glass - there were two of us - only one towel bar and no place to put wet washcloths. The bathroom had a small refrigerator, but it had not been properly prepped for guests because the small freezer compartment was totally frozen over so was useless. The unit also generated a lot of heat, perhaps because it was closely enclosed under the vanity.

Review 126:Breakfast entree varied and other offerings were pretty much the same every day so you could count on them to supplement the entree. Delicious all, and good coffee! Breakfast room is high ceilinged decorated with New Mexican theme. Walk in and sit anywhere - the staff will greet you promptly. Casa B is within walking distance of shops, a museum and restaurants.

Review 127:We were able to change our upstairs room to a ground floor room because of our problems with climbing stairs. The staff was so pleasant and willing to help. The breakfast is well balanced and delicious. Great location for enjoying the area.

Review 128:No Wifi Access in rooms Had to sit outside near the common room to check email in evening, since common area locked at 8 pm

Review 129:Clean, comfortable room, nice bath. Excellent breakfast

Review 130:Space, peacefulness, breakfast, staff. Where else have you stayed that has an open wood fire in the bedroom with a wood store outside the door?
