Reviews for Discovery Lodge

Review 1:The walls are thin so could hear the loud but happy family next door.

Review 2:Very relaxing. Family friendly. Very affordable. Stayed during our Christmas vacations. Loved the mountain views from our room and the outdoor jacuzzi. Walking distance from nearby Safeway, movie theatre, Stanley Hotel, n downtown.

Review 3:No coffee pot in the room and no breakfast. It would have been nice to wake up and brew a cup, rather than tracking through snow and cold to the office every morning.

Review 4:It was pretty clean, and cozy. The rooms were warm since it was December when we stayed, I expected them to be chilly, but surprisingly cozy. The view from the balcony was decent. And the staff was very helpful, as well as the housekeeping was very nice, coming back from a days adventures about town to a warm, cozy, refreshed room.

Review 5:The room is very cozy and scenic, especially during the winter with snow on the ground. I would definitely re-book a room with the balcony. The furniture and interior of the room is nothing to rave about but it is an excellent value for the money.

Review 6:No coffee pot, hair dryer or microwave in room, that would be a vast improvement. Also you could hear all the neighbors, very thin walls!!

Review 7:Great views of mountains.

Review 8:The door into the unit was frozen shut. It took about 45 minutes in zero degree weather to get back in. I was so cold i couldn't walk to my car to get warm. Also, the windows had ice on the inside. The tub had no stopper and there was no hair dryer.

Review 9:The staff was fabulous. The room had great views and a lovely porch. Recommend visiting in warmer weather

Review 10:LL THE STAFF WAS FRIENDLY AND CURTEOUS.MY WIFE AND I HAD IT FOR ONE NIGHT AND OUR DAUGHTER TOOK THE SAME ROOM FO THE 2ND NIGHT,AND IF wE HAD NOT ALREADY RESERVATION AT THE STANDLY WE WOULD HAVE STAYED LONGER.WE WILL SEE YOU SOON BECAUSE LIVING IN DENVER WE LIKE GOING TO ESTES PARK.

Review 11:The pillows were WAY uncomfortable. But that's the only complaint we had.

Review 12:Everyone was friendly and the room had an amazing view!!! Perfect for a weekend getaway!

Review 13:Nothing bad to report!

Review 14:We really enjoyed our visit to Estes Park. Discovery Lodge was a great choice for us. We encountered a very friendly staff, clean rooms and a great view!

Review 15:The location was great. The room was very clean. It was a bit noisy, as there seemed to be little insulation in the walls. The next time we would probably ask for a suite or the luxury cabin. Overall, just fine for our purposes.

Review 16:The room amenities were lacking - no coffee pot or microwave (both in the lobby). With the electric heat, the room took a while to warm up but that's not the issue of the hotel's, just a condition.

Review 17:Good facilities to bring a pet with good walking areas.

Review 18:Nothing to complain about!

Review 19:Quiet, clean and comfortable. Nice views. Much more charming and unique than your typical chain hotel. I would stay here again.

Review 20:Virtually no sound insulation. Family with young child in the room below ours; small child up at crack of dawn and playing hide and go seek with dad. We had not gotten in u til 1:00 a.m., so this was quite distressing.

Review 21:Scrupulously clean.

Review 22:No coffee maker in rooms, and none available in lobby. Was bummed.

Review 23:Room was cabin like, and comfy, clean. Lovely veiws, location easy in and out, close to everything.

Review 24:Room was clean, but a bit dated.

Review 25:Great location! Very comfortable bed. A bit dated looking in the room, but all in all it was and excellent stay! Great value for the money.

Review 26:It is an older hotel in the outside is not very pretty however the grounds are nicely kept and the view is beautiful.

Review 27:Clean, spacious room and close to the Main Street. Very good value, we would stay there again

Review 28:Everything was great! No complaints.

Review 29:Everything was great! I wish we had booked more nights there. The staff was friendly and the room and view were great!

Review 30:I had to borrow a blow dryer from the office and they didn't open until 7:00a.m. Coffee maker and microwave would have been nice in the room since there was a small refrigerator there.

Review 31:The property is very clean and comfortable. The location is excellent for visiting the RMNP. Local restaurants are plentiful and good. There is a grocery store across the street.

Review 32:A DVD player would be nice. At least one to check out at the office. Still had a great stay though!

Review 33:Everyone in the office was very friendly! The hot tub was awesome!

Review 34:The toilet didn't flush that good. The bed is too close to the door. The locks on the doors were low grade and cheap. The bathroom had no air vent, just a window that was locked. There was no breakfast meal included. The hot tub was outside and it was 20 to 50 degrees outside most the time. We couldn't find the ice machine. The electric heater made noises all night and woke me up a few times. The bed was also too big for the room because it was too close the wall and the front door. The parking lot was uneven and had huge dips in it. The balcony outside was too small.

Review 35:The room temperature stayed perfect throughout the time there. The bed was very comfortable. The outdoor view is really nice.

Review 36:would be nice to have a coffee maker in room.

Review 37:Location is right on golf course where the elk grazed in evenings. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Gave us the internet price even though it was a typo.

Review 38:I had a very nice experience but the only thing I wish was different was that I wish the room had a small microwave or coffee pot. They offer coffee in the lobby but we left every morning before the office opened and I needed coffee.

Review 39:This property was in a great location near town and near Rocky Mountain National Park.

Review 40:Old 70's style. Heater was very very old. Had not been cleaned. Noisy. Unsafe. TV was the worst HD. Must have been one of the first cheap ones on the market. No hairdryer. Bed was awful.

Review 41:Nothing

Review 42:I was REALLY disappointed that the room didn't face the mountains or even have a window to look at them like I thought it did from the pictures. The glass door faced the opposite way of the mountains which i thought was pretty silly. If you want a good view, which, why wouldnt you, get the building next to the office. There is NO AC which thankfully was okay after the sun went down but if you are visiting in summer, beware! They give you a box fan.

Review 43:Great location. Hot tub. Nice looking rooms. Nothing fancy but decent, clean hotel.

Review 44:No coffee maker in the room, but free coffee is available at the reception desk in the mornings.

Review 45:Views of mountains and 100's of elk. Refrigerator in the room. Convenient location.

Review 46:The room seemed a bit dated but everything was clean and functional.

Review 47:The room was comfortable and the employee at front desk was incredibly helpful. The location is amazing: a herd of elks grazed overnight near our room.

Review 48:Friendly, helpful staff and good value. The walls, and ceilings alas, are thin. Sounds from walking in the apartment upstairs was quite loud. Get a first floor room is your best bet.

Review 49:The room doesn't have air conditioners because its in the mountains but I would've liked to had one in the room. But we used the fan they provided and opened the bathroom window and t was quite comfortable.

Review 50:Loved the location! The Elk were out behind he hotel and had a great time watching them. Room was clean and beds were comfortable. Cant wait to go back.

Review 51:We arrived on Oct 14th around 5pm and were able to see the elk rut in the backyard (golf course) of the motel. What an amazing view of the wildlife. Very friendly staff that checked us into the motel. We would stay again in the future.

Review 52:exposed wiring, scalding hot bursts of water during shower, broken door frame, outlet pulling out of wall, bathroom faucet loose, poor noise insulation, less than stellar housekeeping

Review 53:location

Review 54:Few things make the "didn't like list." No in-room coffee pot. Sliding patio door, didn't feel very safe, Door locked by itself, sometimes. Could have gotten locked out if I hadn't taken key w/ us. No AC could be a problem when the summer days got warm.

Review 55:Loved almost everything. Quiet. Clean. Comfortable. Little table & 2 chairs, Large attractive room. Newly renovated. The pond w/ a fountain in the middle. Pleasant w/ benches around the pond. Location, next to golf course. Loved it when the huge herd of elk came out. Convenient location, close to highways, shopping, etc.

Review 56:We enjoyed the uniqueness of the inn. The staff was very friendly and helpful and was able to answer any questions about the area. The rooms are older, but well maintained and very clean. Seeing elk in the backyard was a bonus. Perfect location. For sure we will return.

Review 57:Staff so helpful and upgraded to a better room that was available without me even requesting it! Rooms were very clean and newly remodeled. Can't wait to go again!

Review 58:Everyone is so nice and helpful! Nice to visit a hotel thaf is not ran by non-english speaking people!!! Very relaxing atmosphere! Cant wait to come back!

Review 59:We were in a room with a sliding glass door--On the second day we realized that the lock was not locking without great difficulty. It made us wonder if it had been unlocked while we were gone. Our second morning, I couldn't shower because the water was ice cold. Would have liked coffee all day!

Review 60:Brian at the front desk was pleasant and helpful. Our room, old as it was, was clean! Coffee was good in the morning!

Review 61:Everything. Both guys on the reception were very welcoming we appreciated David's sense of humour and very friendly manner. The motel is well located for the National Park and a good variety of shops are close at hand. The room was clean, comfortable and well equipped (better equipped than we expected). The balcony was great, despite it being October we did sit out in the evening and take in the view of the mountains. There was no air conditioning, which for us in October was not an issue but in the summer it may be a problem. The bathroom was very small and guests who are above average size may struggle a. little. In all we had a great stay.

Review 62:No in-room coffee maker. No coffee made in lobby. (You could make your own hot chocolate) No breakfast plan. We could hear the people above us walking around; squeaky floor.

Review 63:Location was quiet. Price was very reasonable. Room was spacious. Nice big sliding doors.

Review 64:No coffee pot and there was no air conditioning though the advertisemenr for the room said there was one. Lighting was extremely dim, so it was difficult to apply makeup. Bathroom was horribly tiny- very uncomfortable and the sink wouldn't drain. Parking was very inconvenient. Overall too expensive for what is offered.

Review 65:Love to be close to the elk on neighboring golf course. Room was cleaned thoroughly.

Review 66:negatives: extremely poor lighting at bathroom vanity & refrigerator shaky, 3 legged & things fall out when door opened!

Review 67:The hotel is easy to find & close to downtown. Although older, it was well cared for & room was large.

Review 68:We loved the location and were so pleased to have such a great view of the wildlife. It was rutting season for the elk. Helpful staff and excellent morning coffee to view wildlife nearby. Great place for a family vacation.

Review 69:Price of the room was a little high

Review 70:Great place beautiful town. Elk in the yard. Friendly stAff. Very helpful. We would definaty go back in our next trip to Estes

Review 71:I booked for a balcony room, when we got there it was not what we received. No heat in the room

Review 72:I loved how quiet it was being off the busy streets and how open it is.

Review 73:Pillows were too big, a little uncomfortable for my neck. I suggest you bring your own.

Review 74:The staff was very friendly and welcoming! Great location, right next to the town.

Review 75:no air conditioning, fan was junky with not a long enough cord to bring cool air into the room.

Review 76:Location is good and one woman working in the office notified us of elk sighting.

Review 77:We only stayed 1 night but wish we would have booked all week at Discovery Lodge. Everyone was so friendly the rooms were cozy and the view was GREAT! I will defiantly stay there the next time I go to Estes Park

Review 78:Room heater was insufficient on chilly night. Sliding glass exterior door only entry to room. No jam bar or other secure second lock: only a chain lock, which is ineffective on a sliding door.

Review 79:Clean facility in good location for our needs.

Review 80:Wish you had a restaurant.

Review 81:What a wonderful place to stay! Loved the log cabin feel and the clean room. Friendly and warm staff. If you want to enjoy the elk then this is your place! We had elk out the front and back door! Thank you for having ice cream!

Review 82:The door wouldn't lock.

Review 83:The nice gentleman that checked us in was super nice he let us have a bottom floor cause I was witn my mom an she is older and couldn't climb stairs.

Review 84:They said they accepted pets but had many rules pertaining to your stay which made it feel like they were unwelcome.

Review 85:Awesome location, very cute room! Clean!

Review 86:Our screen door was broken which didn't allow us to use it as much as we would have liked; the heater was on even though outside was warm temperature. The entrance/exit location was difficult to use during high traffic times when there were cars/trucks parked on the side of the road..

Review 87:Liked the location, quiet, and although we didn't have great mountain views the pond, gold course and elk were beautiful! The room was exceptionally clean and liked the decor, beds very comfortable. All staff were helpful and cheerful. Was as described on the website as well. I will recommend to others and we plan to return next year.

Review 88:Convenient to town, owners live onsite and said to ring the bell if there was a problem after hours (there wasn't). Room was clean and the bed was comfortable. There was a small pond on the property which gave a pretty view. Also we heard Elk bugling after dark.

Review 89:Located short walking distance to the Estes Park Visitors Center and downtown. Nice picnic area next to pond, with a golf course next door - we sited elks grazing on the fairway at dusk.

Review 90:the pull out adjustment to use for taking a shower was almost impossible to pull out (my wife couldn't do it) and even I had a terrible time getting the water to change to the shower head. They didn't have an extension cord to use with the big floor fan they provided since it was very warm the day we were there and they have no AC. We had to go get one from the front office...they didn't offer to bring it to us. There was no hair dryer which is usually provided by all the places we've stayed in for years. Why?

Review 91:comfortable bed and pillows, (very important) and a good TV

Review 92:Older property with lots of deferred maintenance. In shock with their rates that no breakfast is included. Maid service was really loud in the early morning too.

Review 93:Centrally located. Brian at the reception was great.

Review 94:No A/C, in room coffee or microwave.Room was clean but had to ask for more towels on 2 days. Some motels offer other amenities for about the same price. Don't think we would stay here again.

Review 95:We had a great view from our balcony where we could enjoy morning coffee. It was cramped but had 2 chairs to sit and look at the mountains. It was located just at the edge of town. This kept us from most of the traffic. Also had elk visitor in front yard.

Review 96:No bad experience. Only need the room for one night before the Estes Park race.

Review 97:Room was small but nice. No frills. The best part was the small deck attached to the room. But it would be nice to have a small table to put drinks, etc on. Great view from the deck.

Review 98:No air conditioning available, when asked for a coffee maker, the reply was "we have a machine that brews hot water, if we want coffee we would have to supply that ourselves. The sliding screen door to our room fell off twice. My husband fixed it on the first occasion but we requested maintenance service the second time around. No breakfast offered. Very disappointing hotel and would recommend staying anywhere else. Super-8; econo-lodges are better that this facility.

Review 99:The room does not have a blow dryer, coffee maker, or iron. The pool is not is working order.

Review 100:This is a cozy place and pretty good deal for the money. Great location!

Review 101:The security and privacy of the room is not quite up to a normal motel room due to the sliding glass doors being the "front" door. Also one of the beds smelled musty/sweaty. I suppose the mattress has seen a few too many guests.

Review 102:I've stayed in the property 2 years in a row. It is within walking distance of the grocery store and easy access to the park.

Review 103:Horrible mattresses and pillows. Mattresses and box springs were worn out and gave no support. Should have been replaced years ago. In addition, mattress and box springs were stained. Fitted sheets didn't stay on all night because the elastic and fabric were worn out. Poor soundproofing with unit above us. Couple kept opening and closing the sliding glass door day and night and it always sounded as if furniture were being moved above us. Very annoying. Parking lot is in great need of being repaved. Coffee and hot beverages available in the morning. However, it would have been nice to have a little something to eat with the beverage - danish or cereal.

Review 104:Two wonderful front-desk ladies, Jennifer and Melinda. Accommodation request was handled perfectly. Room was very spacious, even with 2 Queen beds. Bathroom was immaculately clean. Never saw such a clean bathtub away from home!! Clean carpet. Plenty of clothes hangers for hanging up our clothing. Excellent location for walking into town for food shopping, vacation shopping, dining, movies, etc. Could walk everywhere within 10-15 minutes.

Review 105:The bathroom was very small, only one hand towel provided for both of us. Slow wifi.

Review 106:We loved the location, very peaceful with beautiful views, yet within easy reach of the town centre. Clean facilities and comfortable bed.

Review 107:Got rather hot during the day so you had to leave the door open and run the fan to cool it down. The toilet was uncomfortably close to the wall. No laundry facilities. In any case we adapted.

Review 108:The room had nice appearance. TV. Nice view. Good proximity to services. Shower and sink were nice.

Review 109:I loved the quiet and beautiful location away from the touristy areas of town and overlooking the pond and mountains from our balcony. And the room had everything I could want including a small frig!

Review 110:No extra room in bathroom for cosmetic bag

Review 111:Had a beautiful view of the mountains from our room windows. Nice & updated accommodations. Liked having a screen door so we could leave the main door open and get some fresh air.

Review 112:Strange layout to room with main door being sliding glass door which was the only window on front side, so could not lock door and have window open. Smoker outside next room so could not even have it open. Beds not great at all.

Review 113:Location was good; room was reasonable size; hottub was nice. Best we could find in Estes Park for reasonable price. Convenient to Safeway.

Review 114:No coffee maker in the room, Coffee was available in the office at 7am though.

Review 115:Outdoor facilities, small pond, small grassy area with picnic tables. Room was clean and comfortable, bed was very comfortable. Fairly quiet.

Review 116:Could have used air conditioner, microwave, and coffee maker. Had to go to lobby for coffee and ice. Facility needs a pool.

Review 117:Great location in middle of Estes Park.

Review 118:NO AIR CONDITIONING. It gets VERY warm (like, HOT) in the afternoon in Estes Park. There were NO windows to open... only the screen door (entrance) was available ... you cannot leave that open all night. ALL the bathroom facilities were in one small room. The 'turn-in' entrance to the premises was somewhat unsafe.

Review 119:Proximity to restaurants, etc

Review 120:Uncomfortable backing out of a space and knowing there were cars behind you. Especially in the dark.

Review 121:Location. Also cool getting to see the elk close up as they grazed on the motel lawn.

Review 122:Very old needs updating! Says had air conditioning,it did not they gave you a box fan. Windows screens didn't fit the windows so the bugs came in. Very disappointed.

Review 123:No breakfast, but coffee was good.

Review 124:Great space with playground and large area's for for children to run around in. The pond was pretty and nice for the 3 & 5 year old to try fishing for the first time. Room was clean and easy access.

Review 125:the room had only a sliding glass door and no ac. Poor air circulation and only a box fan for air. We had to keep the door open to get air

Review 126:Room was older but clean and comfortable

Review 127:The place itself is a little run down. There's a pool but it is not usable.

Review 128:The location of Discovery Lodge is ideal. The surrounding area is beautiful.

Review 129:We needed a place to stay in Estes, CO at the last minute. We were able to secure a room at the Discovery Lodge. The Lodge was convenient to the entrance to Rocky Mt. Natl Park and to the downtown area. The room was clean, but rustic. It had everything we needed, had a great view and was comfortable.

Review 130:The booking.com site shows this motel has air conditioning. It does not!. We were told to leave the balcony door open and use the fan. This did cool the room some but the people in the next room could stand on their balcony and look in our room if they wanted.

Review 131:did enjoy the view from the balcony.

Review 132:Le bruit.
