Reviews for Harbor House Hotel and Marina
Review 1:Short breakfast hours, Charges per day for parking, even when staying multiple days. No room service. Kinda Pricey.
Review 2:Location to the Strand and restaurants was great. The rooms are large and comfortable.
Review 3:Dee was absolutely fantastic! She even helped with our dinner reservations. The view was pretty, especially at sunset and the location of the hotel was a great location.
Review 4:The fellow checking us in was not very helpful or friendly but when checking out a wonderful woman. Very friendly and helpful. Quite the opposite.
Review 5:Great room. Would stay here again.
Review 6:The evening manager, for the night that we arrived, wasn't the most pleasant. If you've never been at this hotel you may not know that you will have to pull up to a gated entrance before you can enter the property. So trying to figure out where to go and check in can be a little confusing. The next complaint is my fault, I neglected to notice that there's a $10 parking fee on top of the price of the room, I'm mentioning this because I still feel that this should have been made more clear by Booking.com that the great price given for the room has an additional parking fee. A year and half ago I stayed in Texas City, which is just up the road, for about the same amount of money and no parking fee which means this may have played in my decision of whether I would have stayed there or not. However, a $10 parking is not a lot but I definitely wouldn't have burned that amount in gas if I would have stayed up the road. When I enquired about it to the night manager his response was just in a very matter-of-fact attitude that it was listed on Booking.com, because I told him that I didn't see it which I didn't until after our conversation, and then he proceeded to tell me that all the hotels in Galveston charge a paring fee. Regardless of what others do, I just felt as if the night manager was unsympathetic and lacked a little tack on how he handled it. Upon leaving, as my wife and I were leaving the next morning, the morning manager seemed more interested in her conversation with someone else than to acknowledge us, as I laid our room keys on the front desk, and it wasn't until we started to exit that she finally acknowledged us and said thanks for staying with them.
Review 7:The location of this property is practically next to the ports for the cruise ships, so that makes this property a great location for those wanting to stay close to your cruising ship. The room was huge and very nice. A modern decor and very comfortable.
Review 8:The room was ok but the mattress needs to be changed. There were two endents where people has slept for years. The smell was very musty. The window leaked, there was water all over the floor. The breakfast was horrible for the price.
Review 9:Close to the cruise ship we were getting on
Review 10:The hotel is the perfect place to stay when leaving on a cruise! The decor is modern and done well. The rooms are spacious and clean. We arrived late, but it looks like many bars and restaurants near. We will stay again!
Review 11:We checked in on a Thursday night around 9:00 p.m. and the gentleman who checked us in was extremely rude. But the next day the ladies at the desk were very pleasant. I did not like that we were charged for parking. I do not mind paying for parking but would have preferred to have known that beforehand rather than when I checked in to the hotel. The breakfast was lacking.
Review 12:The facility is perfectly located near the Strand with lots of shopping and restaurants near. The hotel is spotless and the view was really nice. We had a very spacious and comfortable room.
Review 13:We didn't have a necessarily "bad" experience, but we spent 2 nights at Harbor House and did not receive Housekeeping service, despite the fact that we did not leave any Do Not Disturb sign on our door, and when we left the room to go out for the day, the Housekeepers were in the corridors with their carts. Therefore, when we returned that evening, we had no towels, no coffee cups, and no toilet tissue.
Review 14:The location, the waterfront view from the room, and the proximity of the hotel to restaurants, which made it possible to walk to dinner.
Review 15:Concern with security. One of our keys stopped working, they did not request any identification before remaking and handing us a new room key.
Review 16:Very nice room, great size bathroom and shower. Wonderful location.
Review 17:Paying $10 for parking was a downer. Breakfast was not well presented...coffee pot was empty one morning. Why didn't you have a microwave to warm the "just-out-of-the-refrigerator" muffins and sweet rolls? We stayed 3 nights and were given a rate quote of $99. We were charged $119 for the second night. Staff at the hotel could not explain.
Review 18:Location, nice large room with a view, quiet. Clean.
Review 19:The Free Breakfast was very poor. Next time we would just go out to breakfast
Review 20:The Staff was very friendly and the room was great! It was updated and very roomy with great ammentities. The location was great and parking was very accessible to the Hotel. Would definitely recommend The Harbor House
Review 21:I loved the architecture of the room. Reminded me of being in a loft in NYC. I love the view of the ocean from my room. I really enjoyed my time there. Was very relaxing and warming. The staff were all very friendly and sweet.
Review 22:Beds were too soft and we could not long term park because of the motorcycle weekend so had to park at the Hotel galvan across the island just to shuttled back to the pier to catch the cruise ship
Review 23:The rooms and location
Review 24:I love Community Coffee and was excited to see it offered in the breakfast lounge. As an early riser of habit, it would be wonderful if the coffee was ready before breakfast hours.
Review 25:My room was spacious and ultra comfortable. The location is awesome, with plentiful restaurants nearby, shopping at The Strand, and watching ships come and go.
Review 26:I didn't like the fact that they don't take certain discounts over the weekend.
Review 27:I liked that Harbor House was close to the strand. The people were super nice and helpful. My room had a stunning view and the breakfast was fresh.
Review 28:Room lights turned on around 4:30 am each night. Told desk but happened again. During a subsequent stay two days later in a different room, bedside light turned off. Annoying.
Review 29:I honestly enjoyed my stay. The location was perfect, my bed was so comfortable and the staff were some of the most friendly people. Great visit all around
Review 30:The location was the best. it was right on the pier. I looked out the window and saw my cruise ship. The lady on the check in desk was so very helpful and friendly. We will definitely stay there again.
Review 31:There really wasn't anything we didn't like. The gentleman working the front desk when we checked-in could have been a little friendlier but then, anyone can have a bad day.
Review 32:Everything! This was a perfect stay. My husband ranks this as good, if not better than our trip to Maui... and that's saying a lot. We will definitely be back.
Review 33:The desk clerk didn't like my request for copies of the hotel folios reflecting a zero balance (for business reimbursement purposes) for the 3 rooms I paid for.
Review 34:Very peaceful.
Review 35:There was another front desk person who was terribly condesending not just to us but to others as well. I never saw the sweet one again.
Review 36:We loved the view and the location and the precious girl who checked us in. We walked to our cruise ship and were delighted we could park there all week!!
Review 37:There was no pool on sight. If you wanted to go swimming you had to go to their sister property at The hotel Galvez. We didn't realize which part of Galveston the harbor was on and we wish we would have sided on the beach side. It was much nicer.
Review 38:Pier 21 that the hotel is located on was pretty cool. There were a few restaurants, dolphin sighting boat tour, the harbor and marina. Olympia the Grill had really great food. The hotel room was a really good size with a great view of the harbor. We stayed on the third floor, the harbor was beautiful at sunset.
Review 39:It's not a bad experience, the local eateries around the hotel offered a free appetizer or desert if you stayed at the Harbor, we didn't know that when we ate there. We found out a little too late. It would have been nice to have known.
Review 40:The décor was good, the location was good as well. The room size was excellent. The food and beverages were very good. We generally stayed in the neighborhood for dinner and happy hour.
Review 41:You can use the pool acociated with their sister hotel however you have to take a shuttle.
Review 42:Very nice hotel. Probably one of the nicest hotels we've ever stayed at. We travel a lot!
Review 43:The AC was extremely loud, waking us up during the night. The light switches were very difficult to understand which did what. The room was dusty.
Review 44:The location was great for us and the lady on the day time shift was great. The restaurants were within short walking distance and great.
Review 45:Very nice clean room right on the Harbor. 5 restaurants very nearby that give a free app or desert if you are staying at the Harbor House...the only thing I didn't agree with is they charged us $10.00 per day to park in their parking lot. I think if you are a guest you should not have to pay to park.
Review 46:Was not informed of $10.00 parking fee. Intercom was muffled when parking, was not told to bring our license plate # with us, so had to return to vehicle to get it, then return again to put parking ticket on dash. Had company truck, so parked way out. Breakfast is not served until 7:00. We had to leave for a jog at 6:45. Food was set out, but no coffee ready. Were told we could not enjoy a donut even until 7:00. Asked desk clerk for a business card, and was told they didn't have any. We used to come here all the time. Wil not anymore.
Review 47:Breakfast was bad - staff was not friendly and never saw them. There was little light in the room hard to read a book or put on make up. Shower presser was low - No cable or movies to buy/watch. The window only had a blind - so the too much sun in the early am. AC the room was never cool.
Review 48:the location was good - could walk to restaurants & shops.
Review 49:Needed a sheet of paper in room telling about breakfast hours, where ice n cokes are located and where to go for swimming pool.
Review 50:Layout of room was spacious...design was rustic & modern-industrial.loved soft bedding; sink n shower very nice. Enjoyed view of ocean, nearby restaurants, helpful staff also...
Review 51:A/C made noise throught the night. Did not get a good night sleep. Had to pay extra for parking. It should have been free for staying in the hotel.
Review 52:Location to cruise lines.
Review 53:Loved the location. The view from our room was great. Staff were so nice. Room was large and had all everything we needed. Thanks to Dee she is great
Review 54:When we checked in, the front desk person was not welcoming and hardly smiled. But we appreciated the room upgrade.
Review 55:We absolutely fell in love with the decor of the room. The shower and the comfort of the bed was worth the trip alone! We were upgraded to the suite which was amazing!
Review 56:Had to pay to park at the hotel. No computer for guest to use.
Review 57:Location. Room was very nice. Stay at Harbor House the next time you are in Galveston.
Review 58:The room was not cleaned well the entire time I was there. Even when I specifically asked that gunk be cleaned out of the fridge so I could use, it wasn't cleaned. Hair in the shower, they didn't clean the trash can in the main room, just the bathroom, spots on the bedspread, the wifi didn't work on my iPad and my kindle and when I asked for a second time if it could be fixed the guest services (ha) guy said "Well, no one else has complained." Never again.
Review 59:The decor was very pretty. That's about it.
Review 60:The evening person on duty was very non energetic His attitude was not appreciated. The shower door at the bottom needed serious cleaning to rid it of mold...same with the floor tile i shower.
Review 61:Convenient to good restaurants, annd the Strand. The bed was comfortable.
Review 62:There was not information in the room that the Ice machine was located on the second floor. Only a few guests went down for breakfast. There was cereal but no milk. The attendant left and never returned.
Review 63:The room was eclectic and still very comfortable. The decor impressed my 14 year old.
Review 64:The bathroom makeup light kept coming on and going off during the night. Creepy.
Review 65:The view from our corner room was excellent. The front desk staff and housekeeping staff were very attentive.
Review 66:Took awhile to figure out the lighting. The one morning we had for the breakfast time, it was poorly maintained for the amount of guests there.
Review 67:Good location with charter and party boats within walking distance. Close to dining and shopping on The Strand. Great waterfront views of the harbor.
Review 68:We loved to ambience of our room. Very spacious floor plan. Loved the shower! Very comfortable bed! No noise issue! It is now our goto place to stay when in Galveston. Perfect location for us. It made our vacation so much more perfect!
Review 69:nothing to do with the hotel, but beware of very vicious mosquitos; make sure you own a can of bug spray.
Review 70:all of it was great would highly recommend it and if you love oil-rigs like my wife then you are in for a treat.
Review 71:There is this slovenly man who mans the desk from time to time. He actsas if it is painful for him to answer a question. I simply wanted toknow if he had the phone number for a certain restaurant. His answer:'No.' He didn't offer to find it, didn't offer a phonebook or an interned site. Nothing. And I have observed him (amongseveral stays) taking excess time to move the twenty feet from the backdesk to the front to meet guests. He really acts as if he doesn'tlike people.
Review 72:Location is excellent.
Review 73:The hotel was stunning, Dee at the front desk went out of her way for my family and me, and the hotel was next door to the cruise ship. What a treat!! My family and I will stay there again.
Review 74:Not your cookie cutter hotel - rooms are contemporary décor. Very good restaurants next to the hotel where you can sit outside and watch the fishing boats and pelicans.
Review 75:Bed could have been better. It was memory foam with sunken areas but still acceptable.
Review 76:Not only was it clean, it even smelled clean! The staff was nice, check-in easy. Wifi actually worked all the time! It was quiet and every room is large and has a view of the water.
Review 77:Room 302, King room top corner. This room is great for the view. Summer sun a little bright coming in the windows but it's worth it. Sunsets, view of Pier 21, and cruise ships pulling in and docking. Can almost reach out and touch.
Review 78:The employee that checked us in did not inform us of Breakfast or amenities available to us at sister facilities in the area. Room was dark - need more lighting.
Review 79:Great location, right on Pier 21!
Review 80:The location was great! Could walk to strand and restaurants. Loved going out on pier and watching the dolphins! Lots of things to do like Dolphin tour, deep sea fishing, boat rides, the oil museum just right outside the Harbor House.
Review 81:AC noisy. Don't get room over restaurant AC. Better rooms at end of hall toward water. Front desk uninviting. Breakfast boring. Light switches are bizarre.
Review 82:AC was cold unlike most. Quiet. View was good. Nice decor.
Review 83:The hotel is walking distance to the cruise terminal, which is why I chose it. I did not realize it would also be a cute, boutique hotel surrounded by restaurants. It made our pre-cruise stay very pleasant.
Review 84:Desk clerks were very nice but couldn't commit to anything. Insufficient electrical outlets for 2 peope with cell phones, laptops and pads.
Review 85:Rooms were laid out nicely, beds very comfortsble, spacious shower, nice view of the water.
Review 86:Only two things: 1) check in was supposed to be at for, but the room wasn't ready. 2) The room's refrigerator was not very cold. It was nice to have a fridge though.
Review 87:Overall it was very nice. The rooms were clean and spacious.
Review 88:Very noisy when inside the room. Walls must be very thin, we could hear occupants conversations in the rooms on both sides of us. We had difficulty sleeping because of this. Bring ear plugs or you could be up all night if you have The Party People next to you!!!
Review 89:Location was perfect, walking distance to many shops, restaurants and The Strand. The room was nice, comfortable and clean.
Review 90:When I checked in late Saturday afternoon, desk clerk sent me to room w/2 Q beds, I had booked a room w/1 K bed. When I asked to be moved, he grumbled that someone else would then be unhappy about their room. I had to remind him that I was already there and was unhappy. He did give me the room I booked, but was not gracious about it. Everyone else was superb.
Review 91:Room was beautiful, bed was probably the most comfortable hotel bed I've had, with a selection of pillows to pick from.
Review 92:The Harbor House is conveniently located near the Strand, great restaurants, and other attractions. We had a great room on the third floor overlooking the bay. The room was a nice size, extremely clean, and comfortable.
Review 93:Check in was chatty but we were not informed of availability of breakfast. We paid 500+ for a 42 hour stay and our room was never serviced. We were not given fresh towels neither were our beds made. This is not 5 star service.
Review 94:Absolutely loved the setting and the ambiance. Proximity to the Strand and good restaurants was wonderful. Welcome change from Seawall beachfront activity.
Review 95:For the money one pays to stay here ($525 for 3 nights), "breakfast" was a joke. And, to have to pay for a separate fee for parking seemed insulting. Roll up the $10 parking fee in with the room's daily rate.
Review 96:Loved its proximity to the downtown area. The room was very large and the beds were comfortable. Staff was very friendly.
Review 97:Wish the TV had movies for rent as in most hotels.
Review 98:The location was beautiful and perfect for me. The room was large and comfortable. The staff fixed all of the little problems I had the first evening.
Review 99:Breakfast was mediocre.
Review 100:We appreciated the spacious room , very comfortable bed with upscale linens and big screen tv. Location was very convenient to the Strand and harbor tours. Our room had an interesting view.
Review 101:Breakfast is minimal. No protein to be had. I am diabetic and everything was either white flour or sugar-laden or both. Great coffee though!
Review 102:Like the style of the rooms, cleanliness, furnishings, and the view. Love watching the water traffic come and go. In the midst of the best restaurants on the Strand.
Review 103:Even though there was access to a sister property for swimming pool etc., we would have utilized the pool and swim up bar, along with the roof top bar, if it had been actually in our hotel. Also we would have loved to have a balcony.
Review 104:We loved the location, on the pier and proximity to downtown historic district. The room was awesome. We fell in love with our bed.
Review 105:Need more lighting and mirrors in room. Get rid of window between bathroom and bedroom. Very uncomfortable if someone gets up in night.
Review 106:Being able to see Harbour. Spacious rooms.
Review 107:The location was fantastic! Close to sights and the harbor where we were cruising from. We had a very large room and a harbor view. Close to great restaurants.
Review 108:I am gluten free. . I was not able to eat the continental breakfast. Yogurt was not enough to fill me up. I suggest they add hard boiled eggs to the menu. The protein would be beneficial.
Review 109:The bed was very comfortable. Location was great.
Review 110:Did not care for the open wifi (dangerous), lots of outlets but all filled with room fixtures and devices, no protein available on continental breakfast.
Review 111:Liked the room and it's layout. Bathroom was great. Nice and quiet. Clean and roomy.
Review 112:I didnt like the weather while I was there. That is it. Wish it was sunny. Even with the weather I still enjoyed it!
Review 113:The locatiin, the room, nearby restaurants were amazing. I loved the fact that I ciuld see the cruise ship leaving by my room. Best view ever!!!
Review 114:It took us 4 days to figure the light system out. Finally ask for bulbs and was told how to work them. Switch by the door you have to play with. Worked like a charm. Our fault should of ask earlier!!
Review 115:Watched cruise ships come and go, 5 Dolphins playing, all from our window. Take the bay tour, more Dolphins. Right in the middle of all the action. Love this place!!
Review 116:Need to improve on Continental breakfast, bare minimum provided.
Review 117:Awesome location, very comfortable and clean, great price, and wonderful restaurants nearby.
Review 118:We booked a queen room with 2 queen beds and when we checked in we were told that our reservations were for a King room. When I pulled up my reservation on my ipad, I was told I would have to talk to the manager in the am!
Review 119:Location was great!
Review 120:The breakfast area was a tad cool.
Review 121:The location is great. There are several restaurants in the area and the port is within walking distance although we did use the free shuttle. The lobby is small and the hallway to the room was a bit dim but when we opened the door to our room all I could say was WOW. It was large and bright with great views of the ship and waterway.
Review 122:With upscale restaurants underneath we were surprised that the hotel was so modern and when we got up to the room we were surprised by how large of a space the room was. And for how inexpensive it was we were amazed. Everything was modern and very beautiful in the room...and the was awesome and very comfortable the best bed we have stayed on in a hotel in years...and Mrs D at the front desk was incredibly helpful and super friendly
Review 123:Location to my meeting site; location to three dining facilities attached to or immediately adjacent to the hotel; I ate at Willie Gs, and my entre was excellent. It's appearance can be deceiving on the web, but I was very happy with this stay.
Review 124:Harbor House is so wonderful I want to keep it a secret! The location, you can't beat it. I came for business and want to bring my family to Galveston to just to stay at Harbor House. Miss. Dee the receptionist was helpful and friendly too!
Review 125:The bed seemed to have some indentations on top, but we did sleep okay.
Review 126:If you're headed for a cruise, this hotel is right by the port. In fact, we walked onto our ship! The room was very clean with a standard continental breakfast offered down the hall.
Review 127:This location on the water, surrounded by resteraunts and shopping, has to be Galveston's best kept secret! We hate to be letting others know about it, so that a room will be available when we wish to return!
Review 128:Some of the noise in the Harbor. I will bring a sound machine next time as it was lovely seeing the ships come in.
Review 129:Looking out over the harbor, the rooms were quite nice. The location, arrived and promptly went to Nonno Tony's for the best Happy Hour on the Island as it was about ten steps from the Lobby of the hotel. Wonderful time and will come back.
