Reviews for Stavanger St Svithun Vandrerhjem

Review 1:The hotel states we have different channels available on TV.However, most of them are not actually, and the TV quality is terrible. They also states they have a room with computers, books and games, but there is only one computer(i had to manage myself to connect it the best i could),just a few books and two games.

Review 2:Food is very good, and i found the room comfortable. Also, staff is helpful.Good environment in general and quiet place. The shared kitchen is full equipped and very good.

Review 3:It's a bit far from city centre by walking distance.

Review 4:Buffet breakfast is so nice and over than expectation. The room is so clean an comfortable with private toilet. Kitchen is clean and no one use. It's 20-30 minutes walking from Sentrum station but there are buses connection. 24 hrs professtional reception.

Review 5:Hard to find at night with no lighted sign, not completely English-friendly since it's a medical center facility serving primarily Norwegians, be aware that it's in a medical facility so atmosphere is atypical, away from the city center

Review 6:Clean and comfortable room, bathroom floor heated (!), full buffet breakfast included, can check in later than some hostels, good wi fi, very secure as it's part of a medical center

Review 7:Great stay for one night. Breakfast included in price, super nice reception girl from Poland, clean and quiet rooms. Perfect one night sleep when getting of the airplane in Stavnager late at night.

Review 8:Location is not walking distance to the main tourist area.

Review 9:The staff was nice and helpful. It was very convenient to have a market that opened 24 hours in the lobby.

Review 10:It is in a hospital, when you take the elevator, always there are some hospital patients on it, the only good thing it is that it seems that patients are new mothers with their newborn babies.

Review 11:Breakfast was very good, and rooms are modern and confortable

Review 12:The only downside is the location of the hotel - it is rather far from the city center (ca. 45 min walk) and a single ticket for the public transport is quite costly.

Review 13:Everything was very pleasant there - staff, room, breafast... Receptionists were kind, rooms were tidy and there was even a free breakfast included.

Review 14:Nothing, but it is quite difficult to find hostel for the first time.

Review 15:Everything was perfect. Super clean, nice breakfast, kind staff Here is not hostel, here is like hotel..

Review 16:The staff doesn t know anything about the hike to the pulpit rock band about the turistic attractions, waitresses unpolide.Far from the city centre, you need to take the bus that si really expensive

Review 17:Amazing breakfast. Bedroom clean.

Review 18:Difficult to meet new people or other travellers.

Review 19:Great breakfast buffet, clean bathroom, comfortable bed. Quite a luxurious place to stay for backpackers.

Review 20:We had some trouble connecting to wifi in the room. It's not exactly in the center, although not that far away either and the walk is very nice

Review 21:It was a bit strange, staying at a hospital hotel. But the place is very nice, very clean, with friendly staff and a REALLY good breakfast

Review 22:be aware that the hostel is around 10 min by bus away from the city center.

Review 23:nice breakfast - perfect to start an activity day. good isolated windows, so the noise of the hospital does not disturb. Bus station to the center just beside.

Review 24:A little too little kitchen and time when we could use it- too short, only to 22:00:( but was very good equipment:)

Review 25:Everything was excelent:) Near to hospital:):)

Review 26:It is in a hospital - not good atmosphere for an extended stay.

Review 27:Having access to a kitchen, clean and comfortable rooms. Fine if you are using it as a base to go hiking.

Review 28:First night in a dorm: an old meeting room converted into a bedroom. Then 2 night in a shared room: 9m2, 1 single bed and 1 folding bed side by side, so any privacy and space! The folding bed is very uncomfortable. This is inaccetpable for the price! Moreover, it is very far from downtown.

Review 29:the kitchen is accessible only if you sleep in the dorms, however it is very clean and functional. The computer is a good point for people who do not have internet access.

Review 30:It is a bit far from the city center, we had to take bus, instead of go walking.

Review 31:The breakfast is very good and the rooms are very confortable, looking like a hotel.

Review 32:At night you can hear helicopters landing on the roof.

Review 33:Breakfast was very good - you can choose something (or everything) from variety of fruits, meats etc. Rooms are really comfortable with nice, big bathrooms.

Review 34:upon arrival around 11pm, we have been told that the hotel is booked out and placed into a different building, into a very basic "apartment" with no atmosphere what so ever

Review 35:location

Review 36:Reception made a mistake and sent a third girl to a room that was booked for 2 people that were already there. Location is a little far from the centre, but you can get there on foot if you have time.

Review 37:Price was good for what I got. Nice breakfast, they have also a kitchen you can use.

Review 38:Nothing.

Review 39:Breakfast was included and it was DELICIOUS. A great variety of fresh food and beverages to kick start a long day - especially if you're going for a hike to the Pulpit Rock. The room was spacious and comfy - I was alone occupying a twin room. Easy to reach from the train station, just a 5-min bus ride (get ticket on board). Definitely value for money.

Review 40:it is far from the city center. so treat yourself with a bus ride. if you want to hike on weekends, you are likely so miss breakfast and there will be no bus running into town that early. just be prepared for that.

Review 41:staying in a twin room is like being in a hotel, the difference is you are sharing the room with someone you don't know

Review 42:i booked before and i got a conformation from this hotel. however there was no room to available. so i had to wait for long time while the reception lady organized a room for me.

Review 43:gorgeous break fast ever.comfortable & clean room.good access to central city by bus.

Review 44:A long walk from the city centre and not many shops or things to do around. The staff was helpful and kind but not very well coordinated.

Review 45:Excellent atmosphere for a hospital, newborns, happy doctors... really comfortable and nice breakfast. Convenient to come and go from the airport.

Review 46:The fridge was broken for both of the rooms. It's called triple room but just an extra bed in a twin room. Fortunately the staff is very friendly, she apologize and gave some discount for the inconvenience.

Review 47:It's a hostel/hotel INSIDE the university hospital. You see patients (some not looking healthy at all) wearing their blue hospital gowns & mothers with their new born babies having breakfast in the same area as travelers/guests. It's strange. Besides that, the location is not the best. Either a 30min walk to the city center or a bus for like 12min that will cost you NOK 32 each way.

Review 48:Breakfast is very good, very clean overall. Free WiFi that works perfectly.

Review 49:The management is very chaotic, I cannot use credit card to pay and I asked for three bed room, they gave me two-bed room, we changed for twice then we got the right room. But the toilet is too high for me, it was only for the disable people, I am not very tall, it was hard for me to use it and there is no other room we could change. it is far from the central, taking a bus is necessary.

Review 50:breakfast is very good. shower room is good. clean, they have kitchen

Review 51:We were arriving 2 ours to early (before check inn time). We must pay more (150 NOK) for the room, the receptionist told us. We did not. (going to a museum)

Review 52:Nice room

Review 53:We had a very little room whereas we were 4. The 4th person's bed was stuck between the front door and the bathroom's door. Definitely not confortable.

Review 54:Very nice breakfast

Review 55:If you are only looking for a place to get a good night's rest, look no further; great price (for last minute booking); good breakfast; decent location.

Review 56:this hotel located inside hospital, very strange combination. you see the paient around you when you have breakfast. it feels strange and uncomfortable

Review 57:This is the first time we have come across this concept - hotel combined with hospital newborns and parents staying in the facility and sharing cafeteria for breakfast. What an interesting concept!

Review 58:Mould in the shower and a helicopter port 50m from our window ( started and landed twice during the night), the fact that the rooms were build for hospital patients (emergency button and so on) is a bit strange

Review 59:It was quite cheap compared to other hotels in stab anger

Review 60:More of a hotel rather than a hostel so it's hard to meet people, it's not very close to the city compared to other locations available

Review 61:Very clean, I got a bed in a 2 bed room and nobody showed up so I ended up having the room to myself which was perfect to catch up on sleep, kitchen has everything you need, great breakfast

Review 62:Hotel is located in hospital building. Breakfast is taken with patients from obstetrics department with their neonates. Kitchen was closed at 10 p.m.

Review 63:Good location. Room was clean and comfortable.

Review 64:When I checked-in I got a sheet of paper saying that the hotel offers laundry machine. You just have to paid for it. But when I wetted my cloth to remove the stains and went to the reception asking for laundry, I was told that the machine was out of service at that time. I just hope the staff can inform this when I check-in......

Review 65:Four bus stops from the train station. The twin room is a little bit tiny but in good condition. Breakfast is good as well.

Review 66:Great breakfast, good rooms, a cafe and shop on site and nice staff. Connected to a hospital, we saw a couple of babies in incubators, a few pregnant women and people in hospital gowns as we relaxed by reception which didn't not phase us at all but I can imagine may be quite unusual for some people to experience.

Review 67:Messy and dirty in the common kitchen. Guests do not clean up after themselves :( Kettles could be in the rooms.

Review 68:delicious, nutritious breakfast, a large selection of fresh food. Very hospitably

Review 69:We had a two night reservation, but at check-in we were told that wewill have to change our room after first night because of paintingworks. We asked if we could count on some discount because ofinconvenience caused, and we got 100 nok discount. Nice :)

Review 70:- Too remote from the City Center and the Congress Hall (30 minutes walk each) - the policy for towels

Review 71:Very nice place, clean and comfortable. All useful things (shop, restaurant).

Review 72:Leaving bed linen in the room for guests to make their own beds? I really don't get that. I tried three satnavs, only one recognised the address. Signage to hotel is not clear. Streetview it first, the car park entrance is round the back though. Traffic in Stavanger can be quite bad at the moment, due to major road works.

Review 73:A hotel and a hospital in the same building - yes, that's right…! Very friendly reception staff, good explanation of the hotel facilities on arrival. Wifi is good. There's a 24hr shop on site. The restaurant is buffet or order. The hospital has a baby unit, there are lots of parents with new born babies in the restaurant! The location is convenient if travelling by car - literally two minutes from the main road.

Review 74:nothing

Review 75:The staff is very friendly and helpful. Everything was ok without any problems. We could also leave our baggage there after our check out to sight see the city almost for whole day :) Full breakfast, you can pick what You want to eat, a lot of fruits :) Good price for night for Norway ;)

Review 76:A risk each night to have new neighbor in the room. The card (key for room, lift etc.) often demagnetize, so be carefully - don't keep it near to phone etc. Though it's simple to magnetize again on the reception.

Review 77:Cool price, personal, cool breakfast, wi-fi, bed, bathroom, quiet door in room.

Review 78:Kitchen was not introduced and strict timetables exist for kitchen. The hostel is actually for stavanger university hospital, and you have a possiblity to see patients somehow.

Review 79:Quite comfortable bed and bathroom, secure card control

Review 80:Staff incredibly nice, alot of variety for breakfast ...and i must admit that initially i was a bit unsure about the hotel being in a hospital setting but it turned ourmt to be brilliant! ..very unlike a conventional hospital and an excellent model to use internationally. Guests can expect to be in the company of new borns during breakfast!

Review 81:Not in the city centre. Probrably suitable for people who have a car.

Review 82:Interesting price with provided all necessary facilities. Feel like stay in the Hospital, because it is a hospital university.

Review 83:Location could be a little bit closer to the center of the city, but the bus #4 made it very convenient and fast.

Review 84:I liked hospitality of the staff, cleanliness of all facilities, very good buffet, comfortable beds.

Review 85:This hotel is far from the centre-took us 25minutes to walk and we are fast walkers. No restaurants in the area, so have to either drive or walk to centre. This hotel is extremely busy being joined with the hospital. It was cheap but next time I would choose a more touristy hotel-we were often being stared at by the locals, both in the communal areas and during breakfast.

Review 86:We liked the breakfast -there was a good choice of food, fruit, yogurts...There is a shop/cafe in the reception area.Lots of new mothers/babies at breakfast - the hotel is joined with a hospital.

Review 87:I thought that maybe connection with the hospital could be regarded as negative, but everything was very clean and nice and never say that there is also a hospital.

Review 88:Bardzo czyste miejsce. Bogaty wybór jedzenia na śniadanie. Ładny wystrój wnętrz. Wyposażenie jest nowe.

Review 89:the airport bus is not passing it after 7pm, however, we met a really nice bus driver who send us voluntarily after dropping all passengers, which impress us for his hospitably

Review 90:clean

Review 91:Nothing bad to say about this hostel really, it's a 20 min walk to the centre but there is a bus stop nearby with a frequent service. Breakfast was more than hearty, great choice of hot and cold stuff. Also very good that there is convenience store by the reception where guests can buy food and drinks. The room was spacious and comfortable and very clean. Great value for money!

Review 92:hospital patients with IVs and newborn babies were walking around our floor. This place is completely inside the workings of the hospital.

Review 93:room relatively clean, close to downtown

Review 94:It's a hospital-affiliated hostel, so don't expect the traditional hostel experience.

Review 95:This is the cheapest place I could find. The room is excellent, WiFi strong and breakfast is ample.

Review 96:For the price I paid, the hotel gives excellent value. Room (1/1) was efficiently large, well equipped, even a writing desk for my notebook was there. An excellently working free WiFi as well. A well equipped bathroom with everything you need. Don't worry about the fact that the hotel is a part of the hospital, I simply loved to meet fresh mothers with they newborn babies :-) A good choice of meals for breakfast with lovely smiling and helpfull staff. I certainly would recommend the hotel to everyone, who does not will to pay more than 100 EURO per a night. This is an excellent value for much less money.

Review 97:We booked a triple room, with single beds. We got dubble one with an extra bed. Changing was not possible since everything was booked. And the staff did not know a lot about how to get around town...

Review 98:Breakfast was really good. And the rooms look good.

Review 99:One staff was very unkind. I felt some uncomfortable. When I met the problems to pay a parking fee, she doesn`t care about that and she makes me angry.

Review 100:The hotel is very calm and comfortable. I think this hotel is originally used for the patient or their family. Anyway, overall facilities are very comfortable, and breakfast is also very good with a reasonable price. This is very close to the center of the Stavanger. Furthermore, it is also close to Preikestolen , Kjerag, and some national park.

Review 101:There is an emergency helicopter next to the hotel which is flying every thirty minutes more and less. Sometimes could be a bit annoying.

Review 102:The breakfast is the best thing of the hotel. The location is a bit far from the city centre but you can go easily by walk (15-20min). Normally the bus to the airport stops next to the hotel. Good cleaning.

Review 103:It was a kind of living on a rig, but much more new Mummies and business folks around you. You get a great breakfast, the cleaning service is very day, you have your own bath and sometimes you hear the helicopter. You are in 7 minutes down town by bus or you take a walk with 17 minutes. To Sandnes is it 40 minutes by bus or 10 minutes by train. The kitchen is small, clean and functional. A shopping mall is a 2minutes walk.

Review 104:At 00.30 (!) i got new room mate. He was unpacking and taking shower almost 1 hour. Then snoring all night. I've slept 2 hours that night, check out at 5 and spent rest of the night at the car. Worst night in hotel i've ever had. How it is possible to move in to the room at 00.30, if somebody is sleeping there?

Review 105:free wifi quite clean reception open 24h

Review 106:The facilities were good, but the smell of hospital was not ideal. We sat on one of the upholstered benches in the cafeteria at breakfast--the fabric was completely covered with disgusting stains. Made the room feel dirty.

Review 107:Breakfast was good.

Review 108:I do not know why booking.com even works with this hotel. This place is in a hospital, and should not be offered to regular business/leisure travelers! The environment is gloomy as hell, once you get there you understand that a terminally ill patient's family might be staying in the next room. Trust me, unless your friend or relative is in that hospital, you have no business staying this hotel. At least the wi-fi works - right after our arrival, I booked a different place in Stavanger, and we literally escaped from this hotel.

Review 109:The breakfast was the same everyday but in surplus, so enough to eat.

Review 110:Very nice place to stay, lovely staff - always at your service. Clean and comfortable. Cleaning of room and change of towels every morning. Great transportation but no night buses to the place after 1am.

Review 111:Staff could have a better training, however they are all friendly and do their best to help. Could be woken by helicopter landing; If you book a quadruple room, the fourth bed is a foldable and takes the rest of the space in the room,so 4 people has a very hard time to even pass to the bathroom, not talking about socialising. However, other rooms are all good regarding space.

Review 112:breakfast is nice, its clean, staff friendly, location is 25min walking to town centre and 5 min by car, generally - value for money.

Review 113:The price is too high The location is not good. It is too far from the center, you a have to take a bus.

Review 114:The room was really comfortable and very clean. The staff is nice.

Review 115:Parking isn't free. But you can find free places near the hotel.

Review 116:Very good breakfast. Everything is new. You can use kitchen on the ground floor. The staff is very helpful, check-in time can be changed.

Review 117:The location was difficult to find as it was connected to a hospital. This was a strange location but the hotel itself was clean and well facilitated.

Review 118:Good price for Norway. Set in a nice suburban area. Good breakfast. Clean room. Nice shower. A short walk into town centre.

Review 119:I am absolutely traumatized from my stay at this hotel. I literally havedozens of clusters of bed bug bites all over my body. I have beentraveling on and off for 3 years and this is my first encounter with bedbugs. Unfortunately I did not realize this until the morning of my checkout. I don't know the physiology of a bite but they did not start toitch until the last morning, which at that time I inspected my wholebody, found the bites and found the bugs when I closely inspected thebed sheets. I was in a hurry to check out to make my flight but I wish Iwould have made more of a fuss to the staff before I left. I did notifythe staff because I don't want it to happen to anyone else. In mycircle of friends we exchange travel advice and now I will not referthem to this place when in Stavanger.

Review 120:It was easy to get to the city center, good breakfast, good wifi.!

Review 121:The bus company never made a show for the 9.47 for the pulpit rock. Regrettably this was very inconvinient. Wasted a lot of time and the staff had no way of communicating with the bus company. Heard it was not reliable. Dina Ontario canada

Review 122:The staff was very friendly A good value for the money. I enjoyed my stay and would come back again.

Review 123:Located in a hospital, at breakfast looking over brochures of the area, sick people are all around you. It was nice as there were also a lot of new born babies.

Review 124:Towels were included..in the £54 paid a night

Review 125:The breakfasts were wonderful: a wide choice, very nice seating options - both inside and out, friendly service and generally a relaxing, unhurried atmosphere. Just what you want in the mornings!

Review 126:The hotel is inside the hospital. It has the smell of the hospital. The beds were not prepared when we arrived in the evening, no glass for the teeth or carpet for the feet in the bathroom. The support of soap was not there. Corridors and rooms have the same bad smelling. The carpet in the corridor is more than very old and really dirty in several places (second floor). The reputation of low prices is probably true but just to save 20%. That is at the maximum a two stars hotel.

Review 127:The location is not too bad but quite far from downtown on foot. Wifi is well working. Quality of breakfast is medium. A good place if someone in your family just had a baby in the maternity of the hospital. Mothers and babies are in the breakfast room with the customers of the hotel.

Review 128:I didn't know, as others, that there are nicer sitting areas not connected to the hospital without infusion stands. Also, I didn't know there was a kitchen for the hostel, as the staff didn't tell me and it is not visible (it's in the basement).

Review 129:Clean, accessible, bus schedule in lobby, excellent breakfast, cafeteria in lobby, staff helpful, next to bus stop, a few stops from ferry, bus/train station. You should know that this hotel also serves the adjacent hospital, so there are patients around which changes the atmosphere.

Review 130:I got bedbug bites during my stay and it ruined my whole trip. It seemed the room was clean, but that's not at all. I regretted staying there and do not want to suggest to anybody.

Review 131:Wifi signal doesn't work well in some places.

Review 132:I stayed in a single room and it was very cozy and calm. I loved it. I wanna recommend other tourists.

Review 133:the kitchen was a bit small. We used it during rush hours. We got to wait for our turn to cook.

Review 134:Comfortable and clean hostel. A budget hostel in Stavanger. The breakfast was great. There were buses which took us to the ferry pier. We could bus tickets to Pulpit Rock (not including the round-trip ferry tickets which cost 94 nok). We took the bus from the train station. Tell the driver to stop at the hospital. It is not to far to walk to the train station if you know the way. It would probably take you 30 mins or less.

Review 135:An overbooking can happen but we haven't been informed as soon as we arrived at the reception. We paid for a room with two beds and they gave us a single bed + supplementary bed which was completely broken/bashed. We asked for money back and we changed hotel.

The Fine Print

Bed linen and towels are included but guests have to make the bed themselves. There is no cleaning during stay, although towels are changed every third night of a stay. Please note that Stavanger St Svithun Vandrerhjem is the official patient hostel for Stavanger University Hospital.
