Reviews for The Stanley Hotel

Review 1:Daughter's room the toilet wouldn't flush, shower knob was broken and the room was freezing.

Review 2:We liked the location and the hotel itself. We traveled with our daughter and her boyfriend and they stayed in a separate room.

Review 3:Very noisy all night on Friday. Couldn't sleep. Then contruction started up at 7:00 am on Saturday. I know you are on a tight schedule but that was very inconsiderate since we were paying 350 dollars a night. I should get a refund for Friday. The Ghost tour is a ripoff.

Review 4:We really liked the helpfulness and attitude of the staff.

Review 5:None:)

Review 6:This was a well needed escape and was way above excellent. Anyone that needs to escape the crazy every day life, needs to go to the Stanley Hotel. It was a trip back in time, even with the creaky floors and old timey style. Beautiful views that were just breath taking.

Review 7:The description of the condo was not what we received. The description was 2 bathrooms, there was only one off the master. With 4 adults it was awkward at times. We had an older family member with us & walkways & sidewalks were VERY icey & snow covered.

Review 8:Loved the location.

Review 9:One of the front staff in the lodge was clearly not engaged in his job - not friendly - other staff though were great

Review 10:Great breakfast included in price, amazing views and locatoin

Review 11:The restaurant is a joke. They insisted on reservations for breakfast even though the place was half empty. There was no option to wait for an open table... really?

Review 12:We wanted a little larger room and the guy at the front desk opted to upgrade us to a condo for no additional charge. We then opted to stay an extra night and they gave us that night for the same charge as we would have paid for just a regular room. Awesome experience.

Review 13:The construction going on at 730 am, and didn't get room reserved in main building!

Review 14:I like buildings, and history wife like the night ghost tour with scary mary

Review 15:have traveled extensively and your hotel had the smallest and most dysfunctional room I have booked anywhere, I asked about an upgrade at desk but you were booked too full to accommodate me. hope to return to your area again but will not stay with you. I'm sure you hear this often. google search shows Stanley as a 5 star. not in my opinion.

Review 16:location and lobby

Review 17:No bad experience but was disappointed that we were not able to take advantage of ghost tour due to the fact that they are given only in the evenings.

Review 18:The structure, decor, location, climate (we are from south Texas) the showing of The Shining, the extremely cozy, comfy room we stayed in

Review 19:I expected a swimming pool. Disappointing considering the fabulous weather! We would have enjoyed relaxing & drinking a cocktail by the pool. The restaurant had no views!

Review 20:The history surrounding the hotel. It's quiet & peaceful location. The trails.

Review 21:The young staff at the reception lacks smiles and charm and none of the cleaning personel said hallo. 65 dollars for breakfirst for two !!!!

Review 22:The location is great and the historie og the hotel is super

Review 23:The restaurant service we received was absolutely dreadful. Five tables that were seated after us had their food before our order was even taken. The food wasn't worth the price or the two and a half hours wasted.

Review 24:I liked the ambiance.

Review 25:The food and some of the staff were both sub par. There is a lot of restoration work left to do and it is unclear whether the hotel management will do it nicely. Some projects suggest that it won't.

Review 26:The Stanley is located an easy drive from the East entry to Rocky Mt. National park, and it is away from the noisier downtown of Estes Park. There are some fine features of an old beauty left in tact.

Review 27:We were a bit disappointed to find that there was no pool as advertised. At the time of our stay, it was covered by a stage for a performance group.

Review 28:The grounds and the view. And the fact we were upgraded to a king suite in the Lodge. The breakfast in the Lodge was superb.

Review 29:Even after over 100 years they can't figure out how to get the outside air in. The outside was 52 degrees and our room was 85 degrees with using 3 fans. They need to get a different style of fan ($20), but they don't care enough about their guests to get this. Then they made fun of me within ear shot.

Review 30:No air conditioning...dirty window sills...sharp grout between tiles in bathroom...no ice...

Review 31:The history. Liked the Stanley Steamer in the lobby. The setting is lovely.

Review 32:No air. bad air flow. Older hotel that had lots of visitors walking around. I've stayed at better older hotels for the money. I thought things were VERY expensive. $15.00 for a mixed drink....really?

Review 33:location, free shuttle

Review 34:The staff serving breakfast were rude room was way overpriced it was not mentioned in your booking that they charge an additional 50 for room ended up being 423 for one night still waiting on deposit return 4 days later

Review 35:Pastries and dog friendly

Review 36:Appreciate there are tours of the hotel but did not expect it late into the evening and on every floor. Difficult to check in because of people on tours. Also house keeping was not great nor consistent .

Review 37:Location was great with stunning views.

Review 38:The staff just doesn't know what they are doing. They miss every time--from Cascades restaurant to the check-in staff. This hotel would be great if they would just take time to train and empower their staff.

Review 39:The hotel itself is beautiful, historic, and on the best property in Estes Park.

Review 40:No air conditioning. Tub and shower did not work. Maintenance slow to respond, but very apologetic and fixed properly quickly.

Review 41:Experience of the Stanley

Review 42:There is no air conditioning in the rooms, and it was a warm evening, so that was a bit uncomfortable. I realize that historic hotels don't have all amenities, though ... There was a shard of glass (not from anything we brought in) on the floor near the bed in our room (340), and I stepped on it - cutting the heel of my foot. The ice machine was broken - and coupled with a warm evening, that was disappointing. Workers came rather early to start work, and that was rather noisy.

Review 43:The hotel was lovely! The lobby area is decorated beautifully, the outdoor patio bar was wonderful, and the room was spacious. The room was quiet at night, and the bed was comfortable. Patrick, at the check-in desk, was awesome.

Review 44:Poor service when it came to confirming early check-in over the phone. Did not return my numerous phone messages. Reservation desk clerk treated us as 3rd class guests due to our booking through 3rd party booking service.

Review 45:Beautifully restored hotel with magnificent views of the Rocky Mountain National Forest. Great food and well managed bar staff.

Review 46:Tours absolutely must be booked in advance, otherwise you'll arrive and there will be no space. There is no air conditioning (which is only necessary in the hottest summer months) and the rooms are extremely small. The staff is comprised of 90 percent teenagers (not an exaggeration), whose inexperience does make a difference when you pay such a price. While history is the strongest component of the experience, the hotel could stand a bit of maintenance.

Review 47:The hotel was beautiful and worth a visit, with views in all directions of impressive, ever changing landscape.

Review 48:The entire day and night proved to be unbearable to stay in due to the heat and no air conditioning. On weekends we were never told where to park. There was no parking available where we first parked.

Review 49:The hotel was picture perfect. We loved its history.

Review 50:Our room was excessively hot making it difficult to sleep. The Ghost tours and constant crowds really cheapen the grandeur of the hotel, especially the twins cutout located at the main entrance. Between the construction that we didn't know about until arrival and the tours we felt shorted of the full and relaxing experience of the beauty of the whole hotel and grounds.

Review 51:We loved the history & beauty of the hotel and the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. The food and the service of the waitstaff at the restaurant were among the best we've ever had.

Review 52:I paid for breakfast for two with Booking.com. I was not able to redeem that, and had $39.00 for breakfast. Hotel desk clerk said it was not included, unless I stayed at the Lodge

Review 53:Natalie May was an exceptional server during our dinner.

Review 54:I booked this through Booking.com and when I arrived I did not have a room. It several hours for the staff to coordinate my accommodations.

Review 55:Cynthia was great.

Review 56:Dining room cold so had to go back to room for sweater and jacket. Reception did not give any info. And Spa was closed and unobtainable by phone you had to leave messages till Saturday.

Review 57:The view of the hotel and views from hotel but my room had just the car park view. My previous visit was much better. So it seems never go back for a second visit.

Review 58:My room was not cleaned very well, had coffee from lst guest spilled onfurniture and down the wall. $50 charge for my dog for one nite!

Review 59:Great location. Liked hiking around the lake and in the mountains. Likedold pictures showing the history of the area

Review 60:It was not a good experience. First, our room was in the third floor and the elevator was not working - "The repair has been scheduled for late winter and will take approximately 8-12 weeks to complete" - Really??? I considered it very disrespectful. I had to carry two heavy bags by myself. The night tour was very disappointed. 90 minutes doing almost nothing. The coffee machine in the room was dirty, full of dust. The hairdryer didn't work. The breakfast was not so good, very dry bread and few options.

Review 61:The view was good and the room had a good size.

Review 62:Walls are pretty thin, could hear doors slamming and people coming and going from their rooms. It was really expensive for what it was, but if prices were cheaper i would go again.

Review 63:Easy to find and the staff were super helpful and they made the stay worth it!

Review 64:I think they were behind with general maintenance. The entrance to the second floor to the upper parking lot looked terrible considering the history and quality of the establishment. A new threshold and some white paint would go a long way.

Review 65:Classy historic site. It was a fun stay.

Review 66:We were close to the elevator which was a little noisy during the night. Not much of a bother though

Review 67:The decorations for the Shining Ball.Great service by the hotel and the beautiful surroundings

Review 68:the bathtub needed to be reglazed although I know the hotel is ancient with the amount of money that is charged for a room should be enough to make the rooms more presentable

Review 69:the staff were very friendly

Review 70:The temperature in the main building was in the 80s and even with the window open some folks in our group baked. No AC Furniture was rickety in the condo. TV a bit wimpy. Bar service was slow at times at the Whiskey Bar

Review 71:The views especially sunrise Close to a shopping center for supplies. Hanging out on the front porch Breakfast and lunch were awesome. The history The beauty of the grounds and building The Lodge was gorgeous The Condos if you have a group

Review 72:The room was small and I bumped my head on the sloped part of the ceiling several times. Our dance club had an event in the auditorium. While the food was good, it took an hour and a half to serve all the tables and then the food was cold.

Review 73:Loved the style and setting. Service was good for the most part.

Review 74:Expensive for what it was. Staff attitude made you feel you should be grateful that they had allowed you to stay. Small lapses like no iron in room, barely two coat hangers in wardrobe and electric light bulbs that needed replacement all of which should have been noticed and rectified before letting the room. Overpriced and living on reputation of its history.

Review 75:Condo was well furnished and comfortable

Review 76:Wedding parties, Tour groups, day trippers. Not a place to relax and take in the history

Review 77:Worth going once to say you have done it. Best part of day was early morning when fewer people about

Review 78:nothing, everything was excellent

Review 79:the location, just outside Rocky Mt National Park, the beautiful updating of a historical treasure, the tours guided by enthusiastic young people who truly love the property.

Review 80:We are avid hikers and climbers, while we were waiting for room (and room was provided early and in short time!), we asked if hiking trail on the grounds and were told not really, we explored and found the rocks out to right of front entrance as you exit Stanley, really fun scrambling around rocks and we carried a lunch to nice view on top. Stanley should not have No Climbing on Rocks policy, to nice an area. We enjoyed Stanley and Rocky Mt. Nat. Park, 2nd time we stayed there and will again in the future. Really like the Stanley.......

Review 81:We truly wanted to stay in house BUT had to settle for the adjacent condos. Also NO ghost tour was available during our stay.

Review 82:The Stanley is always a historic venue w/ Mysticism.

Review 83:mattress in room 321 terrible - very soft and lumpy service in restaurant quite slow; staff very pleasant but not always knowledgeable

Review 84:the porch bar area and drinks location and view gift shop staff

Review 85:Very disappointed

Review 86:When booking Resverations. I was booking for a special occasion . I wanted a haunted room . I was never told that maybe yes or maybe no the room would be haunted. I paid over $400.00 for the room that you changed on me . First Room 1302 and then in the main hotel on the 4 th floor and then again finally 1301 . This was all being switched around at the front desk when we checked in at 4pm 9/21. Once they finally decided as to what room finally #1301. We took off to go over there and found out we had to hike up three flights of stairs because the elevator was out of order . We are both in our 70 's so that wasn't a happy note.espically with luggage . . I wish they would have explained that at the beginning. !!!! Next the strawberries that I ordered was delivered and were melted and not eatable ! We had dinner Resversations.for 6:30 and were not seated until 6:45pm. I ordered Hallibut and it was half raw, so I sent it back and my guest ordered the red bird chicken and it too came out very pink and we sent that'Back . After 20 minutes it came back out and was so over cooked that it was so Krispy and super dry . We had explained from the moment we were seated at 6: 45 we want out by 8 so we could take the tour That never happen.! We left at. 8:15 and missed the tour. The service was horrible and we compared notes the next morning at breakfast with guest that stayed in the room we were to be in and they too had a bad experience with dinner . I felt it was never explained that the room could be haunted or maybe not and for the price of over. $400. I should have been told up front . I would have stayed in a cheaper room no dinner and gone to the night tour ! I feel since I have been a guest in the Hotel many other times in the past 50 years I totally got ripped off this time. We even called down to the front desk to re check the time of the continental breakfast and were told by someone on the other end he had no idea and would call us back.

Review 87:For the price, I would have expected the following: - The condo to be clean and well maintained. The living areas were fine, but the built-in ledge was filthy. The downstairs window cranks did not work - couldn't open. The window screen was pushed out. We could not get the fan controllers to work. The fridge was noisy and freezer compartment cracked. There was mold around the soap ledge in the upper bath. Paint chipped in many areas. Basically, a lack of TLC. - Air conditioning. The unit had no air conditioning. It was warm when we arrived. - Highlighting that the 2nd bedroom was in a loft...open to the main living area.

Review 88:The setting is spectacular. We stayed in a condo complex conveniently located behind the hotel. The condo was roomy and had all the facilities to comfortably accommodate the 5 of us. Very nice having morning coffee at the outside table. A maintenance call was answered promptly by a nice young man.

Review 89:There was some confusion with our reservation. A lovely woman made it alright including an upgrade with no cost or inconvenience to us. We so much appreciated her.

Review 90:Staff bikering with each other in front of guest...hello we're right here watching. Apparently poorly training in customer awareness. Otherwise the place is amazing and not to be missed. Unfortunately the public tours take away from the upscale hotel experience.

Review 91:The old hotel is authentic and awesome. We took lots of pictures!

Review 92:There were no instructions how to use the tv, no information on layoutof the hotel, signage was poor on where to register, toilet had to beplunged twice in 3 days, front desk was rude, beds uncomfortable, noeasy chair in the room, etc. Even the General Manager, Jackie, said sherealized the signage to register was bad when she joined the staff 6months ago but she never did anything to fix it. We never complain andwe are very tolerant of most anything but we were really surprised anddisappointed.

Review 93:Room was very small and had no air conditioning. The shower temperature was very unstable. For the price you pay I expected it to be nicer.

Review 94:The scenery is very beautiful.

Review 95:No one to help with bags. Temp parking for registration is in the back a long way from the lobby. Our bed was worn out - each side was like sleeping in a tea cup - the mattress crushed by the hordes of really big people that came before us.

Review 96:Location, history

Review 97:When I booked a room for five I didn't realize I wouldn't be in the hotel itself but in one of the new units behind it. I really wanted to stay in the hotel itself and would have booked two separate rooms had I known.

Review 98:Location and historical character

Review 99:The size of the room in the lodge is very small. It was 78 degrees in the room and was difficult to sleep at night because it was so hot and humid.

Review 100:The food, staff, and atmosphere

Review 101:We had a condo with a hot tub; no water in the hot tub. Painting was ripped in the bathroom. No filters for coffee maker. They brought some, but they were way too large for the coffee maker. If you're staying in one of the condos, don't expect any amenities. For the cost of this hotel, I was disappointed.

Review 102:Location and view. Dinner in the dining room was very good.

Review 103:This is one of the few places I have been where the reality was better than the hype. Loved the way it has been kept original and just fun to roam and look at all the displays. I'm sorry we didn't have time to take any of the tours. We had our anniversary dinner at the Cascades and it was lovely; the food excellent and the staff very attentive. Loved the place.

Review 104:Booking.com booked us one small room for a family of 4. We had to pay extra to sleep us all comfortably in a nearby condo. So we didn't actually stay in hotel. Condo was ok. Not clean. Carpets crusty.

Review 105:Nice lobby.

Review 106:Lack of air conditioning and noise in the patio area that forced us to close the windows to get to sleep which made it even hotter.

Review 107:The hotel was beautiful and charming. The bar staff was fun and we had a wonderful dinner in the dining room. The room was beautiful and the bed very comfortable. The front desk staff was very helpful, especially, Abigal Prow. Relax on the verandah.

Review 108:The elevator is frequently out and with the high attitude and the heat, it needs to be fixed. Too many tours and strangers at the inn. Not enough information on things to do in the area and dining options.

Review 109:Location, near everything.

Review 110:The folks upstairs were a bit noisy at times late at night. As far as the room goes, my wife could have used a large mirror somewhere outside of the bathroom.

Review 111:This was not our first trip to the Stanley. We return because we like it so much. Lots of character, spectacular views, first-rate, well-trained staff. Very close to Rocky Mountain National Park, so handy for hikers like us.

Review 112:No AC. Tours were booked as was restaurant.

Review 113:Beautiful historic hotel with amazing views. The building is gorgeous. The guest room was so charming. Bed very comfortable and linens clean and fresh. Great location and wonderfully relaxing. Great photographs all over were fascinating. Thoroughly enjoyed the art throughout the hotel and on the property. We had no plans and really wanted to get away from life for a day, it was perfect for that! The hotel and it's location in Estes Park is an amazing backdrop to any photo op!

Review 114:It was Disney land for kids. Loud tours in the hallways and in the stairs, kids playing in the elevators. Very loud in hallways and crowded lobby. Not a historic hotel type of stay at all!

Review 115:only the view

Review 116:*window blinds broken in our condo. *"breakfast included" plan is confusing (at best). *check-in staff sends new arrivals to restaurant for breakfast where they are turned away for lack of a reservation. *telephone in condo was disconnected.

Review 117:*beautiful views *comfortable beds

Review 118:Don't stay on the upper floors; no air conditioning and you will roast. Fit and finish of the building needs work. Maid service is spotty. No tissues in the room; no bath mat...little things like that that shouldn't be happening.

Review 119:Great location for a gateway to the Rocky Mountains. Historic building.

Review 120:Didn't like the view from town...looks like another hotel is being built right in front of The Stanley!!

Review 121:Loved the whole ambience of the place!!!

Review 122:Not haunted!

Review 123:Building was beautiful, although not as secluded as portrayed in all the photos, etc.

Review 124:Overpriced

Review 125:Beautiful location

Review 126:Over all the history about the place.

Review 127:No air conditioning in the condos which for the price should have it

Review 128:The condos were clean.

Review 129:Rooms require refurbishing

Review 130:Location Excellent Breakfast

Review 131:History and unique property, beautiful location. Comfortable clean room in lodge.

Review 132:They had no air conditioning and the room was HOT!!!

Review 133:The location was beautiful and a very interesting history.

Review 134:Staff had an attitude. Very poor value for money. Room cleaness was poor

Review 135:Location and theme

Review 136:Very clean; awesome location.

Review 137:Price

Review 138:Location History of the hotel

Review 139:Staff at reception not well-informed about situation in nearby National Park and, in general, not very professional

Review 140:Seeing the old photos in the hotel
