Reviews for Carpenter Street Hotel
Review 1:The staff was terrific -- helpful and pleasant. The hot breakfast was really good, too. Convenient location, in walking distance of the downtown Springfiled Lincoln venues. We would stay here again.
Review 2:I didn't feel completely safe walking by myself at night, especially with the empty lot next door, hospital parking garage across the street & peddlers on the corner. They had breakfast but the waffle batter was horrible & the only alternative was cereal.
Review 3:The price was right for just a bed to rest my head.
Review 4:The hotel is nice but the surrounding neighborhood is run down. Overall cleanliness in the room was good but the bathroom had a few spots of mildew and paint peeling off.
Review 5:The hotel is within walking distance of the Lincoln Presidential Library and restaurants. The staff was very friendly. Breakfast choices were good.
Review 6:The Only Problem" I noticed was the foul smell coming from the carpet....
Review 7:There was a smell of mold or mildew coming from the carpet, the staff friendly, Breakfast was delicious, Francine Was wonderful she had a smile on her face every time I saw.he, she helped me out by Shuttling me to the Capital Building, my family and I will return next Summer, enjoyed the stay....
Review 8:Very cramped breakfast area, with styrofoam plates and plastic cutlery. Reception staff had no uniform, so not easy to tell them from guests.
Review 9:Liked the location, a couple of blocks only from the Lincoln Museum, Old capitol Building and restaurants.
Review 10:Couldnt eat breakfast. Not enough seating in breakfast atea. Mistake made by clerk upon check in with room payment. Next day supervisor caught mistake made by clerk but instead of apologizing for the mistake. She made me feel as if i were the one that made the mistake.
Review 11:Everything was close to the hotel
Review 12:We stayed during the state fair and were pleased with the location. Bonus we were able to take the shuttle to and from the fair. The shuttle driver even worked a bit late to ensure our safe ride back.
Review 13:Breakfast was very simple but perfectly adequate. The "Gym" was only 3 machines and in a very small space but it worked for my purposes.
Review 14:Staff was very nice and helpful, the room was very well stocked for the price. The beds were extremely comfortable and there were flat screens TV's with a good selection of channels. WiFi was also strong and there were lots of plugs.
Review 15:Nothing whatsoever to complain about.
Review 16:All the staff we dealt with made us feel welcome. The hotel was squeaky clean. The rooms are spacious and the beds comfortable. Good soundproofing and relatively silent air conditioning. The shuttle bus service is great and the driver was really nice to us.
Review 17:The hallways smelled like musty old carpets, perhaps mold? The breakfast was horrible, they had grits, biscuits, two bagels (at 7am!) and milk and juice. Very poor presentation, no choices.
Review 18:The rooms were clean and solid.
Review 19:There was some people on the property working on a car in the parking lot. My husband was up during the night checking on his truck. A bit pricey for this level.
Review 20:Friendly staff, great breakfast, comfortable bed, easy wi fi access.
Review 21:Wish it had a pool.
Review 22:what we enjoyed was it was within walking distance to Lincoln Museum and Library and other Lincoln activities. Hotel was very clean and welcoming.
Review 23:The walls seemed very thin. You could hear doors slamming, people talking, and the TV in the next room.
Review 24:The hotel was very close to where I wanted to be.The staff was very helpful in my needs.
Review 25:The Carpenter Street Hotel is in a great location for seeing Lincoln sites, and one of the best features is that they provide a shuttle Monday to Friday anywhere within 5 miles. What a convenience.
Review 26:Night staff was loud and abrupt. Cursing customers who required rides in van. Driver of van used vulgar language and it was like staying in the ghetto!
Review 27:Price, Location
Review 28:Surrounding area was sketchy. My car paint was scratched by another car while I was checking in. Room was ok. Looked like a rushed "makeover". Paunt was peeling in bathroom and shower head was ready to fall off. Couldn't see my car from hotel window. Terrible breakfast.
Review 29:Staff was very friendly and knew the area well. They had a free shuttle service for downtown. Close to downtown. Short drive to Lincoln Memorial. Jimmy Johns delivered to our room.
Review 30:As you enter the room, it feels damp and smells mouldy. We didn't say anything as we arrived so late and were too tired. Everything was just ok. But the price we paid was way too high for the facilities. We've paid less for much nicer accommodation.
Review 31:Free parking Reception staff friendly
Review 32:In the night I saw 2 cockroaches in the bathroom. I advised the hotel manager of this.
Review 33:Great location--within walking distance to see all the Lincoln attractions! Also--could buy ticket to Lincoln Museum & Library at the front desk for $10 instead of $15 onsite at the Lincoln Museum-Library.
Review 34:Immediate neighborhood a bit rough with a 'no guns' sign opposite the parking lot. Breakfast was ok.
Review 35:Two blocks from the Lincoln sights, great room, good wifi, very friendly staff and nice gym.
Review 36:The bed could have been a lot more comfortable (including the pillows). The breakfast was average for this type of hotel.
Review 37:The room was comfortable with a nice bathroom. Staff was helpful and the location was very close to the museums.
Review 38:We did not have a bad experience but the weekend front desk person did not have the right attitude for the busy weekend . He didn't know enough about what was going on or where the resources for the weekend were.
Review 39:Cassandra was welcoming and wonderful. The location was very convenient and the accommodations were very clean and pleasant.
Review 40:The hotel has a lot of transient people walking around and on one occasion while loading a suitcase into our vehicle we were approached asking for money. Although this hotel is close to the city for sight seeing, it is also close to St. John's Breadline where all the transient hang out.
Review 41:Hotel was nice and clean and staff were friendly.
Review 42:Noisy guests, bed on the firmer side, curtains a bit too short to block light. But still, an overall pleasant stay.
Review 43:The hotel was a convenient walk to downtown, helpful staff, good value for your money.
Review 44:We were in walking distance to most of the museums, historical sites and restaurants in the downtown area. It is also across the street from a large medical center. We usually have to get used to a strange bed, but we found ourselves fast asleep in no time the very first night!
Review 45:There were homeless people sleep across the street and I was expecting to have a meat for breakfast.
Review 46:It was in a convenient location, the hotel was clean, the staff was pleasant, and the mini fridge and microwave were great because I had a toddler with me. Overall not bad!
Review 47:Check in was very customer service friendly.Check out her skills need tobe polished she had the I don't care attitude never smiled at usvery dry attitude.
Review 48:The location, the cleanliness and the bed nice big room.
Review 49:Rooms were very clean. Motel was within walking distance of almost everything we wanted to see. Staff was very friendly and helpful with everything from directions to where to eat. The continental breakfast was great.
Review 50:All staff members were helpful and friendly. The room was spacious and clean, as was the hotel. Breakfast was varied from one day to the next and had many heart healthy items.
Review 51:When I checked in the guy at the front seat was short and not very helpful, he came off like I was bothering him. Our room was never cleaned during our stay. The cleaning staff came in and folded and hung out used towels and never made the bed or anything else in the room.
Review 52:The location was close to everything, questionable people seemed to always be outside the parking lot.
Review 53:Pork free breakfast options
Review 54:This location is perfect if you are planning on being in downtown Springfield. They have a shuttle but walking is definitely an option. The staff is friendly and the hotel is very clean. I also really liked the color scheme of our room. The breakfast didn't have a lot of options but everything available was good. Overall very pleased especially with such a great price. I would highly recommend.
Review 55:Breakfast was not good. Minimum hot foof selection. :(
Review 56:good bang for your buck! Coffee was delicious as well. :) definitely will be srating here when I come back to springfield in June!
Review 57:The coffee pot in our room still had coffee in it-but everything else seemed clean. Desk attendant wasn't very friendly or helpful. Workout room door was difficult to open with room key.
Review 58:Hotel was recently remodeled and decor was fresh and inviting. Reasonably priced, comfortable.
Review 59:I was sitting on the back of my truck having a little cigar so I wouldn't bother any guests coming into the hotel.the front desk clerk came out and asked me what I was doing,I said smoking a cigar.he told me there was no trespassing! I said do you want me to check out?he was amazed I was staying there even though he checked me in a couple hours ago!!
Review 60:Thin walls heard everything the people in the next room were doing (sex). Shades don't close to block out flood lights from the out side. Also got a rash from the sheets and pillow cases.
Review 61:Friendly staff
Review 62:Judging by the rate of under $80 I was not expecting much, but it had high reviews so we took a chance and boy were we surprised! The room was pleasantly large and nice looking, with a mini fridge and microwave. The beds were inviting as well as comfy. Would definitely recommend and stay at this hotel again
Review 63:We found an empty cigarette pacage beside the chair in the room, even though it is a non-smoking hotel. Shower head was broken too. Strange fact was that the blinds in the room were made, so they would not close. That was odd since we were looking at the funeral home behind the hotel, we ended up pulling them together and pinning them closed.
Review 64:The hotel was walking distance to the start/finish line of the Lincoln Half Marathon. Clean hotel and well lit. Room was overall, ok for the price.
Review 65:We could hear the elevator, and the people talking in the room below us. We didn't get the best night's sleep. Everything else was great though.
Review 66:The staff was very helpful and the facilities were clean
Review 67:Breakfast was terrible!! Very disappointing. We also were unable to receive all TV channels in our room and had to sit in the lobby for a show we wanted to watch. We also were told that the front doors are locked at 7pm every nite because of the homeless people that are around the hotel. There is a Salvation Army right across the street. I was not expecting such a depressed area but I was wrong! I was very uneasy and would not leave the hotel after dark.
Review 68:The hotel was clean, staff was nice and great location for site seeing.
Review 69:i didn't like being next to a funeral home in the midst of several health facilities and near a soup kitchen.
Review 70:The convenience of being near the Lincoln Museum.
Review 71:The price was lower than the hotels near the location of my husband's conference. The staff was polite and very accomadating. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was much better than many moderate priced hotels. I will book here again next year when it is conference time.
Review 72:Upon checkout I am pretty sure the only thing the lady working, Cassandra, spoke to us was "what room number?" She proceeded to print out a copy of our bill, set it on the counter and walk off.
Review 73:We wanted a place close to downtown and this was just walking distance from where we wanted to be. The room was clean and well kept.
Review 74:From the moment that I was walking in the door I encountered some rather shady people. Not sure if it was a friend of an employee or and employee himself but he stared me down as I walked into the elevator. I ran into him and a few of his sketchy friends as I was returning from the convention and they started making comments to me as I walked past them on the street. They were all clearly drunk. Never a great feeling when you don't feel necessarily safe coming to and from the place your staying.
Review 75:Staff was friendly. Halls were quiet.
Review 76:We really liked the closeness to the "action". We also appreciated the fact that we were treated like "full value" customers, regardless of the fact that we used Groupon to get a better rate.
Review 77:The staff were very friendly and very helpful and willing. I could not believe how accommodating they were for us. Everything from shuttle service to breakfast request. Really great. Location / price okay.
Review 78:Bathroom had some paint issues near the shower.
Review 79:The hotel was within walking distance of all the major Lincoln attractions. Breakfast was included. We saved $5 per museum ticket by buying them at the hotel front desk ($10 vs $15). Also saved on parking because we walked to the museum. In room refrigerator was great.
Review 80:None come to mind.
Review 81:I was so impressed with the kindness of your staff. Each person I encountered was so willing to accommodate my request. The conference was 5 blocks from the hotel and the hotel's shuttle dropped me off and picked me up each day. My room was on the level of a 4 or 5 star hotel.
Review 82:I couldn't pull the curtains all the way shut to block out the parking lot lights; not a huge deal.
Review 83:Breakfast was what you would expect, bed was great, and it was quiet and restful. Good shower pressure.
Review 84:Walls are paper thin, you can hear everything.. Very loud in the evening.. Doors slamming, can hear phone conversations from next door room..
Review 85:TV channels were plenty
Review 86:Difficulty finding light source to gym. No lids on the toilet.
Review 87:It wasn't difficult to locate. The shuttle service was an added perk. The breakfast had a nice healthy variety of foods.
Review 88:Staff was distracted when working with me and slow to respond, bed was uncomfortable and lacked a comforter - I was told that the "duvet" (cheap thin cotton blanket that looked more like a mattress cover) topped with a white sheet was standard. It was 3 degrees outside, you'd think they could provide a nice, warm blanket.
Review 89:Nice location and very affordable price.
Review 90:The walls could be heard through easily. Multiple times woken from banging on the door. Didn't sleep well.
Review 91:It was a nice place, friendly and comfortable. Good price.
Review 92:I heard just before coming to your hotel that you had bedbugs. Housekeeping was nice about letting me inspect the room and bed, where I found good mattress protection and no signs of infestation. It's obviously a problem that was thoroughly addressed. The staff was friendly and helpful in giving directions and maps.
Review 93:Wi-Fi showed 5 hookups under Carpenter, but couldn't connect to any. Needs improvement.
Review 94:Older hotel, but clean and very polite staff. Breakfast was slightly above average.
Review 95:The free shuttle was the highlight. Delivered and picked us up from museums & restaurants. Did not have to worry about getting lost or parking. Terrific bonus for tourists.
Review 96:Queen beds semi-hard and lounge chair missing ottoman in our room.
Review 97:Staff extremely friendly and accommodating! Continental breakfast satisfying and sufficient.
Review 98:Shower didn't work properly; breakfast was very basic and minimal; location - while close to everything, was not in an area I'd want to walk around in at night.
Review 99:Within walking distance of Lincoln Museum and downtown restaurants; clean & comfortable updated rooms; friendly staff; good wi-fi. I'd stay here again! There is a free shuttle but it's an easy walk to all the sites.
Review 100:All in all just fine in my book for what I paid.
Review 101:A very personable staff - allowed early check-in at noon since it was November and not height of tourist season. Great location - 3 block walking distance to Lincoln Museum and three more blocks you are in central Springfield. Easy to find- follow signs to Museum and then take 6th 3 blocks to it. Fairly typical breakfast offerings - enough to hold you for the day.
Review 102:I enjoyed the hotels proximity to the Lincoln attractions in Springfield. My room was quiet and I slept well. The staff was friendly and my breakfast was filling. The hotel was a great value for my needs.
Review 103:No pool or hot tub. Hot breakfast not very good, and was served with flimsy plasticware and styrofoam plates/bowls.
Review 104:Furnishings and finishes were new and clean. Nice room for the price. Easy walk to Lincoln sites.
Review 105:Was surprised there was no little fridge or microwave. We went out to eat, but couldnt bring a doggie bag back to munch on later. Disappointed there was no pool, but we knew that when we booked.
Review 106:The bed was really comfortable. We were just there one night, so didnt get to try the amenities, but for what we needed it worked just fine.
Review 107:Breakfast was from 5-9, and I wish it had gone a little later. The water pressure in the shower was pretty weak. I was hard to rinse my hair. Minor issues though.Really a great hotel w great people, willing to go above and beyond. Definitely going back the next time I go to Springfield!
Review 108:Great location. We walked everywhere. Staff was friendly and helpful, especially Annette! Hotel was clean and quiet and an excellent value. Parked when we got there and didn't need the car again until we left. Highly recommend!
Review 109:The hotel can't do anything about it, but there are no restaurants nearby.
Review 110:I was pleasantly surprised by the hotel. The room was very nice and very clean, looked newly updated. The bed and pillows were excellent(and I am very picky about both). The breakfast was also another pleasant surprise. Hot food was actually hot and tasty and plenty of options for breakfast. I travel to Springfield at least 5 times a year and will certainly stay here again.
Review 111:The place is clean well kept and nicely decorated. For the Peirce of this hotel I expected less but was pleasantly surprised at the chicory and hospitality here. Just a few blocks from downtown. I would highly recommend this hotel.
Review 112:The bed was VERY firm, making sleep difficult. The pillows were also very firm and flat. The shower pressure was horrible.
Review 113:The location was good for the price. Although we didn't use it, it was nice that a shuttle was offered. The room and bathroom were clean and well maintained.
Review 114:Was not sure of the neighborhood it seemed like the pub on one side of the street was lovely and on the other side was seedy. Never made a decision. Was on the right on the edge of the tourist attractions. Walking distance
Review 115:A spa would be nice.
Review 116:Location was great - easy to find. The staff were really nice and so were the rooms. Nice hotel for the price. The online ratings we saw before our stay had this hotel rated up with much more expensive hotels, and they definitely lived up to those ratings. I would definitely recommend this hotel and we will definitely stay here again.
Review 117:Spotty WiFi, average breakfast, indifferent staff, whether fr desk or others, minimal exercise room.
Review 118:Great in-town location, comfortable and quiet rooms, ample parking and access. The idea that it's located next to a homeless shelter shouldn't even be mentioned. No safety concerns at all.
Review 119:I have nothing bad to say about this hotel.
Review 120:Large, well furnished, spotless rooms. Friendly and helpful staff. Decent breakfast choices. great location.
Review 121:The hotel location was in walking distance to Lincoln sightseeing & downtown restaurants. Price was reasonable compared to other suitably located hotels. Free & convenient parking was nice, & free shuttle was a plus.
Review 122:The hotel is overall excellent; beautiful clean rooms and hallways; tasty and hot breakfast (albeit orange juice machine dispensed something watery); reasonably priced.
Review 123:There were (what appeared to be) able-bodied people begging for money in the parking lot both days we stayed.
Review 124:This is a nice hotel and a great value -within a few blocks of most of the important attractions, such as the Abraham Lincoln Museum, the Old State Capitol, the Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices, the Lincoln Presidential Library, etc. The pool is small, but clean and welcoming. Rooms are clean and tastefully decorated.
Review 125:It was poorly clean in general Bad smell in the corridore No microwave and referigeratore I dont recommend it
Review 126:The location of the hotel And shuttle to neighbourhood medical centers
Review 127:The location near the Lincoln museum and old statehouse was very convenient. Staff were very helpful. The room was about what was expected at the very reasonable price. Good value.
Review 128:There really wasn't anything.
Review 129:The room was very nice, the staff very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was good. Location was great, within walking distance to sites and resturants. We will stay here again.
Review 130:The coffee in the room was awful. They should consider going to Keurig mini coffee makers. We also noticed a number of vagrants loitering near the property.
Review 131:The staff was friendly & helpful. The hotel is close to downtown & within walking distance of many attractions & restaurants. The hotel van was available to take us anywhere we wished to go.
