Reviews for The Times Hotel
Review 1:Rooms are small, but that not unusual for the middle of Amsterdam.
Review 2:Very friendly staff. Rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. Rooms have in-room bathrooms. The location is excellent, in the middle of Amsterdam and a 10 minute walk to the central train station, 20 minutes to the airport from the train station. It is a 30 minute taxi ride to the airport from here.
Review 3:Walls are pretty thin, couldn't escape the weed smoke, not even in my room, I guess other guests were smoking, it came through the vents.
Review 4:Proximity to all things one wants to see in Amsterdam, staff was excellent, very helpful, faces a canal, plenty of shops/restaurants around.
Review 5:The bed not comfortable for a couple (2 single beds put together), the heating system difficult to regulate and most of all the noise (we Could hear everything in the hall)
Review 6:The location pretty close to everything : anne Franck muséum the canals ... Compétitive price
Review 7:Breakfast wasn't included, and it cost 12.5 euros (around 11 USD) for very poor breakfast. I would recommend eating somewhere else.
Review 8:Excellent location and very nice and willing to help staff. The room was very nice and comfort but not anything to tell your grandchildren.
Review 9:1. Lighting could definitely improve. Its really dark in the room. Bed needs improvement 2. Small room is expected with low ceiling but the tiny bathroom with no space to put any toiletries can be really annoying. Can get really cold at night if you don't leave the heater on in the room when you leave during the day
Review 10:1. Canal view in Herengracht 2. Location - Close to anne franks house, pancake bakery, cheese museum and tulip museum 3. Good internet connection 4. Snacks at the reception, very clean. 5. Staff are nice but could improve on giving more info on how to get to places and nice spots when handing over the map. 6. Not in a busy street so its quiet All in all i had a pleasant stay and would definitely come back.
Review 11:The noisy celling in the morning
Review 12:The check-in was very fast, the receptionist nailed it. He gave us a warm welcome and he was very helpful giving us hints about whats going on in the city. The cleanliness of the room and the facilities. Very comfortable. On top of that the design of the room. No bad surprise :)
Review 13:Carpet not vacuumed at the edges. Rembrandt wallpaper in room might not be to everyone's taste. Take earplugs due to street noise and chiming church bell.
Review 14:Location is fantastic. Staff are really helpful.
Review 15:The heater in the room was closing at nights at the same hour, even they told me they're not closing it. You can still use the air conditioning for warming. That was the only problem I had there. Nice hotel.
Review 16:Very very central
Review 17:Excellent location for easily getting to tourist attractions by foot and/or by tram. Very friendly and helpful staff. Extremely comfortable beds. Two comfortable chairs. It was worth paying extra to have a room with a view over the canal. Good variety of cold foodstuffs for breakfast. Free wifi with good connectivity.
Review 18:Would have preferred a room that was not on the street side as it was a little noisy but nothing major.
Review 19:The location was excellent and the staff was helpful.
Review 20:Very strange location of rooms. Not a strict like in a hotel- rather home adopted for hotel.we have to walk up with stairs than up etc to get to room. Is bit uncomfortable:)
Review 21:Location
Review 22:1 of the receptions guys was horrible if anything he went out his way to have a go at us and talking to us like we were idiots telling us how to open the door when he could of advised us how to do it in the first place, I don't know if this was just the whole British French thing but wasn't very nice. The room was very small as well as the breakfast area, pictures of the hotel obviously make it look bigger than what it actually is.
Review 23:Room was clean, wash facilities re-stacked everyday, Breakfast was ok, for a 2 star hotel it's fit for purpose. Near metro and restaurants
Review 24:The nonsmoking policy (hotels should allow some rooms to have the smoking option)
Review 25:Location, canal view from the upgraded room, cleanliness, and cozyness of this boutique hotel.
Review 26:The matrace of the bed was way too soft for me...
Review 27:Very friendly staff, good breakfast, rooms tiny but clean and with bright Rembrandt-wallpaper. Excellent and elegant location for having a coffee in the lobby with a view on the Herengracht
Review 28:The room wasn't cleaned properly and amenities weren't replaced after finished. Towels could do with replacing, some are new but others are frayed and look dirty.
Review 29:Was a great location within walking distance of many attractions. Helpful staff. Rooms are cosy and individual. We had a lovely room with large windows that could be opened for fresh air.
Review 30:we had dirty bedding and because there were no staff we had to change it our-self !!!! Totally Not acceptable and disappointing!!! The receptionist apologizes.
Review 31:location is the best !!!
Review 32:The room was in the basement, which to us, was a huge shock. It was throughout the night very cold, and we could hear the noisy inner yard. The hotel is very shallow and due to the poor location of the room right beside the reception, it was upleasently loud in the morning. The room was not realy dirty, but not clean as well. and the bathroom door wasnt closing, which in a room this size is not so nice. I can only talk about our room, maybe the rest of the hotel is different, but to us that room was absoulutely inacceptable and i was relieved that we could cancel the second night free of charge.
Review 33:Very friendly staff, very very cute team in the morning with a lot of laughs and smiles, nice location at a dam
Review 34:Horrible, horrible experience. Reception called for us their taxi service, it took forever to come and overcharged us about double. Much worse, believe it or not, the driver left the car (to open our door) which then started moving until hitting the fence of canal directly under 90 degrees! We tried to quickly jump out but as the taxi hit the canal fence its door slammed my hand almost braking it. The driver left the scene in spite of our insisting that he waits for police. A few bicycles were crashed and my hand was terribly hurting. The worst part is the fact that hotel receptionists were trying to hide identity of the taxi company, and instead of helping us they were protecting the taxi company which obviously pays them commissions for ripping off their guests. A lawsuit will follow as we did take pictures of the taxi and the driver. Also, we changed 2 rooms but in both the beds were terribly uncomfortable, the worst we ever slept in. Reception said it's the same in all rooms. Nightmare experience, stay away.
Review 35:Location is really good.
Review 36:Whilst I was staying in a budget room I was not expecting to have two single beds joined together. This is not usually an issue but in my room the beds rolled inward toward each other leaving a defined gap in the bedding. I am not a large person but would have hated to have been sharing the bed with another.
Review 37:Location was great.
Review 38:The only issue involved the bells from the tower not far away chiming through Saturday night. No fault of the hotel's, though!
Review 39:Loved the location, cleanliness and the friendly staff!
Review 40:Wasn't aware of having to pay city tax at the end. Was under the impression that having paid , what I thought was in full to booking.com at the time of booking, that there wouldn't be any more to pay .
Review 41:Able to accommodate four of us together.
Review 42:Everything was great, no dislikes at all.
Review 43:Close to the centre of Amsterdam but in a quiet location, no noise, easy walking distance of the main attractions and loads of bars and restaurants very close by. Comfortable and clean rooms, friendly staff.
Review 44:The room we had, the view was of a brick wall, however we asked for an alternative room and the hotel swapped us for a better room!
Review 45:The staff were amazing. They were helpful and always had a smile.
Review 46:It was a bit cold in the room. The heat was not working efficiently.
Review 47:The location was perfect. The hotel was clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly.
Review 48:The rooms are not sound proofed and that means sleep can be disturbed fairly often with the various loud goings on around the hotel.
Review 49:Small Boutique hotel with a great Location with friendly staff.
Review 50:The AC unit in my room was making very loud noise so I had to turn it off at night.
Review 51:Nice small quiet hotel located in 10 min walk from everything (DAM square, Central station, RLD, City center).
Review 52:Room was small for a couple. Everything else was outstanding
Review 53:Location, location, location. Away from the crowds, but a short walk to major attractions.
Review 54:The room was a bit noisy as it was nearby The reception
Review 55:The hospitality at check in was great. Very friendly! The Location is fantastic in The centre of Amsterdam
Review 56:I liked everything :)
Review 57:Hotel is cosy and very nice. Room has modern decoration.they head the kettel in room which hellped alot to tea lovers :) Very good internet in rooms. Two bottel of water was waiting for us in room.location is very close to Dam sq and Tram station.only one Tram stop from Train Central Station. Staff are very helpful.Definitly will go there next time.
Review 58:The price is a bit expensive given that breakfast is not included (12.50EUR per adult if you want to eat there). Also, the room we stayed in would be typically used by families, but we were exposed to noise and smells from the "coffee shop" next door Saturday night - nothing inappropriate given it is Amsterdam but my daughters didn't enjoy the smell in the room. The hotel may want to consider mentioning this to families and proposing an alternative room.
Review 59:The personnel were very helpful, giving good advice on what to visit and helping us to print out tickets for attractions. The hotel itself is on a (mostly) quiet beautiful canal street. We had a family room with a mezzanine facing the canal with 2 bathrooms. Very comfortable (small, but enough room for 4). We read previous comments about the cleanliness, so were concerned but our room was clean upon arrival and cleaned very nicely each of the 3 days we were there.
Review 60:Internet was not working properly in my room on the 1st floor, receptionist tried several times to reset the router without success
Review 61:Especially the location, very quiete place
Review 62:Staff was friendly and knowledgable. Location was amazing. Bed was comfortable. Wifi was great for streaming. Great hotel at a competitive price for the area.
Review 63:The staff were inattentive and failed to call the taxi I requested for my trip to the train station. I also asked for lunch advice, and they failed to follow up with me when I asked where I should go.
Review 64:I liked the location on the canal, and the bathroom was lovely.
Review 65:No English tea and milk to make an early morning cuppa.
Review 66:Very good location, quiet. Staff were friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable. Bathroom small but fab shower.
Review 67:The hotel has a wonderful location, but my room did not have view to the canal: it was located on a semi-basement with view to a shaft. The room was basic and small, but the price was 167Euro/ night. While I was there, outdoor temperatures were 10 to15C; the thermostat in the room did not function and it took me 4 days to learn that the temperatures could only be adjusted at demand at the reception. They should have done that without a special demand.....I do not recommend this hotel
Review 68:The artsy wallpaper in the room
Review 69:i'm 73 and negotiating the stairs with luggage to the room 375 was difficult. separate beds but we managed. bad internet, low reception. small windows, and to high on the wall. i had a design and build company in new york and know from where i speak : )
Review 70:it was all thing considered, a wonderful stay at the times. the staff was great, the room served us well and the bathroom was excellent... it was nice and quiet,
Review 71:The towels were smelly and instead of a double bed I had two single beds pushed together. Also there wasn't a mini bar in the room.
Review 72:I liked the location and the friendliness of the hotel staff
Review 73:The price was a bit high and the breakfast very overpriced especially comparing to what was offered.
Review 74:The staff was amazing, they were all so kind, they offer you all sorts of facilities. Moreover, the hotel's location was amazing, located on a very calm street but very close to everything and to the center.
Review 75:Breakfast overpriced so did not partake. Room needed refurbished.
Review 76:Fabulous location. Quirky family room. Clean. Good air conditioning units in the room - upstairs and down.
Review 77:The lift didn't go to our floor so we had to carry our heavy suitcases up a narrow and steep set of stairs. Also the bathroom was very small which made it quite uncomfortable to shower and dry off.
Review 78:The staff were very helpful and friendly.
Review 79:Electronic door lock did not work. There was mold in the shower. We stayed for 4 nights, the bed sheets were not changed. The bed was uncomfortable and was bowed in the middle.
Review 80:The location. Staff did their best to accommodate us with all the problems we had.
Review 81:The only thing I would suggest is some milk in the rooms for the tea and coffee. Re the location I only put good not excellent as I had quite a way to walk with my luggage from central station (my fault for packing too much and not using the tram!)
Review 82:All the staff were very friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean and comfortable, nice quiet location.
Review 83:600 plus for 2 nites was a bit pricey and the noise from canal a little loud but we were there on a holiday.
Review 84:this place was great, walked from central train station, the room was big the view was great, the staff super, A/C worked well, I was very happy we stayed there would do it again and again
Review 85:Location of the room made for a temperamental wifi connection which could be remedied by opening the room door to re-establish the connection. Gret connection in public areas of the hotel.
Review 86:Hotel location was a short wil I from the rail station, museums, flower market. Restaurants nearby. Quiet street located on a canal. Room was nice size, wonderful bath/shower. Would definitely return!
Review 87:Cosy hotel close to the city center. We had a tiny but very nice room on the top floor under the roof - with white washed beams and a wall print of Dutch classic painting - nice touch. Extremely friendly and helpfull staff! Just a piece of advice: Request a room on upper floors if possible - it makes a great difference;)
Review 88:No internet for 5 days! Blimey ! I complaint at the reception and theysaid if I want a room with internet would be 20 euros more per night! Ihad to ask for shower gel and toilet rolls as the housekeeper was lazyand forgot! No breakfast! Only if you pay ! View to a wall not theCanal! Staff very rude and lazy.... Long faces all the time... On top ofall that.... The recepcionist on my departure said would be an extracharge of 43 euros for Amsterdam city council! She started shouting veryloud and getting crazy when I complaint about how horrible was my stayin that dreadful place.... Wont go again ! Total rip off! I dontrecommend this place.... Go find a better hotel.
Review 89:small repairs required to window opening mechanisms and also shower door which leaked and flooded the bathroom each time great
Review 90:Great location, stylish rooms, very comfortable bed, very friendly helpful staff. Good last minute price.
Review 91:Othe hotel guests had little consideration when arriving back in the early hours.
Review 92:The location of the hotel & the confines of the bed. We actually checked out the brand of pillow as we liked them that much!
Review 93:Wifi was terrible.
Review 94:Great location. But then any hotel in Amsterdams horseshoe is. We chose this hotel because we were limited in our choice trying to make a booking the day before. FYI don't worry about parking in Amsterdam, you won't ever need it, just park in Oosterdok Parking.
Review 95:Nothing
Review 96:Fantastic quiet location but very close to restaurants and easy walking distance to most places. Staff were very friendly and helpful, would definitely recommend.
Review 97:Narrow circular stairs to get to room, and also in room to get to upper level.
Review 98:Hotel is on quiet street, with beautiful canal view, but still within walking distance of main attractions and station.
Review 99:having to check-out and go home :(
Review 100:smooth and easy check-in, perfect view waking up overlooking the canal!, location was brilliant able to walk close proximity of everything.
Review 101:There was nothing I did not like about this hotel.
Review 102:Very good location and easy to get to all the different sights. Hotel staff were very helpful. Bathroom was good with plenty of room. There was a lift which made it easier with bags. TV had many different channels and a variety of English ones
Review 103:The staff were very friendly and helpfull, the AC was perfectly cold and the bed was warm enough to have a good night sleep, and finally the canal view at morning was beautifull
Review 104:Nothing really, our room was on the inside. So next time will try to get a room at the front with a canal view.
Review 105:The location on the canal. Friendly staff. Stylish decor.
Review 106:The hotel was central to everything including the train station. The rooms were very clean and the bathrooms are very modern. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Review 107:No complaints
Review 108:The location was fantastic overlooking the canal. We were so glad we did not book a hotel on one of the main streets, we would have missed the charm of the city.
Review 109:This was not an issue for us, but if anyone has an agility issue or issue with stairs, he needs to request a room where no stairs are required. Even after getting off the elevator, we had to climb down and up about 3-4 stairs. Not an issue for most, just a warning.
Review 110:Super location, reasonable price, nice breakfast (10E apiece) for which you do not have to sign up in advance, friendly staff, and there were usually a few pastries leftover from breakfast to snack on later in the day!
Review 111:The staff were lovely, the bed was just what I needed after walking around Amsterdam all day, there is a coffee shop next door but you can't smell it from the rooms, over all I couldn't find any fault with my stay!!!
Review 112:Only issue was that there were steps to climb once we reached the floor via lift to the room and managing bags in these tiny steps was not ideal
Review 113:Easy access to all the must see sights, very helpful staff, clean rooms, good wifi
Review 114:The room was small with limited space to open my suitcase.
Review 115:The location was great for access to the city. The room was basic and I was only there to sleep. With a 24hr pass to the trolley it was easy access to the whole city.
Review 116:No electric socets near beds. Extremely poor WiFi in our room. And no place to hang on bath towels to dry - they were always wet.
Review 117:Nice location, good breakfast, very clean room and friendly staff.
Review 118:I wake up in the middle of the night because the room tripped fire alarm! We run out to the street with all postayaltsami hotel. False alarm, 2:00 o'clock in the morning. Serena fire staff could not turn off the 30 minutes, we were in their pajamas in the street. In the morning in front of us and I'm sorry not to have offered to compensate for the intsedent. The free breakfast was denied! Smiling staff pretended that everything is fine! Вертел я такое гостеприимство!
Review 119:You can store their luggage at the time of the search of property
Review 120:The receptionist that checked us in was not very nice she was actually very rude to us. however all the others guys that were there at the front desk after her were very pleasant. The Internet was also very poor and kept going in and out. I'm not sure if it was because of where the room was located
Review 121:Central location. Clean room
Review 122:They wanted to charge a €10 charge for breakfast and you didn't havea big option... Get out and explore and eat away from the hotel. We ateat the American Bakery (5 min walk ) and it was amazing!
Review 123:The hotel was clean and the location was amazing. They had a coffee shopdirectly next door and the Dam Square was about a 2 min walk behind us!Really happy with this stay!
Review 124:We had a budget room in which the double bed was squeezed between and actually touching three walls. This meant you had to climb over the bed from the bottom to get in.
Review 125:Excellent location- in city centre - but very quiet and overlooking a canal. Friendly and helpful staff
Review 126:Next door there is a "coffee shop" - stoned customers shouting at each other on the street until the small hours not very helpful for a good night's sleep.
Review 127:super helpful and nice staff and very clean.
Review 128:We were two couples in two rooms. Our rooms were on the same floor as the lobby and there was a lot of noise and disturbance in the morning. The staff accused us of smoking in our room and did not apologise when we told them that we don´t even smoke. The respond was "But I saw the sigarette butts outside the window" The night staff accused me of smuggeling an third guest into my room the reality was we were four in two rooms. The walls were dirty where something had been spilled and not cleaned. Upon check in the bathroom trash can had not been emptied from the previous guest.
Review 129:The location was perfect
Review 130:Only one available socket for recharging phone; boiling kettle etc, and it was placed in bathroom right next to sink. It is not really a dislike but the room we were in was one of the smallest with the luxuriously comfortable double bed filling the width of the room. Excellent room as a base for sleeping washing, changing and going out for most of the day. Not much good if you planned to spend a good deal of time in your room; (but then again why would you?)
Review 131:Staff were very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. The hotel is in a superb location in central Amsterdam. It is canal side, a few minutes walk from the station, the hubbub of the touristy centre (if you want it), and some smaller, more private restaurants on the outlying canals.
Review 132:My room was really loud and it was dark. I needed to read and couldn't get decent light to read in bed (and the room was so small that there was no other place to sit. I heard every word uttered in the lobby; the walls are paper thin. At one point in the middle of the night, I wanted to yell out a general: "shut up" (which of course there was no need to yell).
Review 133:Reception desk was super friendly, gave some good tips. Hotel has a great location and is easy to find.
Review 134:If booking a canal room, specifically request NOT to be put in 5th floor. Elevator only goes to 4th floor. Must carry suitcases up small spiral staircase to 5th. Room is absolutely tiny! Looks like it was originally 1 room, but split in two. There is less than a foot between end of bed and wall. Room should have been priced less because of small size and staircase. We paid top dollar.
Review 135:Location was good. In canal district. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Can walk here from Central Station but recommend calling hotel for specific walking instructions, as streets can be a bit confusing.
Review 136:the hotel room was less than expected. The room had peeling paint, the A/C on my side of the building didn't work, and the shower head was broken. The bedding was ok, thankfully the bed was soft.
Review 137:the hotel staff were helpful with providing restaurant suggestions and allowing for an early check-in. the Wi-fi worked great.
Review 138:Small room lacking space to put cases. Nowhere to sit. Very small bathroom. Very unsuitable for elderly people.
Review 139:Location. Hotel had a lift, canal view from room nice.
Review 140:No staff help or advice with easily securing a taxi in a busy period. Forced to hail a cab on a busy street, one day with luggage.
Review 141:Cleanliness and good bed. Good breakfast.
Review 142:The room was very small; we felt somewhat cramped as there was nowhere to store luggage after we unpacked. But the inconvenience was really the bathroom. No counter top; small shower with vinyl curtain and water got out on floor. I had to put a towel over the sink to place toiletries on so I could use them.
Review 143:The bed was comfortable and the location was great. We were able to walk just about everywhere, even to the train station to go out of town. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Grateful for the elevator.
