Reviews for The Virginian Suites, an Ascend Collection Hotel

Review 1:The hotel had obviously been partially? remodeled. The room had a couple updates and a couple things that needed to be updated. The cigarette smoke smell and clanking heater were the worst. Kitchen appliances were dated and looked dirty (though I think they were cleaned as much as they could be, just dated).

Review 2:The staff was fantastic; very friendly and helpful. It was nice to have a full kitchen. The location to Arlington business area was great.

Review 3:The view was of a back street which was ugly, after I requested acity view. Somehow I was checked out before I had actually done so.They weren't sure how that happened. And I'm not sure howlong it takes to be refunded your deposit, but that hasn'thappened yet either.

Review 4:A piece of the Door frame was loose and hanging

Review 5:The penthouse was amazing. Very spacious loved the balcony overlooking the city, the beds were perfect.

Review 6:The suite gives great space and flexibility for a week long stay as the well equipped kitchen give options for eating in. There are also a good number of eat-in and take away restaurant options within walking distance. Both DC and Georgetown are easily accessible

Review 7:Traffic in DC is crazy and lots of one way streets. Plan to stick with metro. Nothing bad about hotel.

Review 8:We loved the spacious clean room! Had a full kitchen with pots & pans, dishes, glasses, and utencils. It even had a dishwasher but every day when we left the staff washed our dishes for us! Very friendly staff. Loved this hotel! Close to Rosslyn metro too.

Review 9:Nothing.

Review 10:This is my second stay here, and will be coming back again for sure whenever I visit DC or Arlington. Staff was very helpful and supportive, Sabine in particular was friendly, cheerful and kind to book me a very nice and quiet Studio Queen Bed with a wonderful view to my request with free breakfast. Very clean and comfortable setting, spacious studios and convenient breakfast for only 6$. Location is great in a very nice area, with about 10 mins walk to nearby Rosslyn station. Simply a great choice, and would definitely stay here again.

Review 11:The location was great access to the metro, the bathroom was updated and overall the room was clean and comfortable with excellent, helpful friendly staff...all of them

Review 12:The staff was beyond perfection! They went out of their way to ensure we had a wonderful experience. I cannot say enough nice things about all the employees. They were just so wonderful. Beautiful and clean accommodations. Great location, close to everything, yet just far enough off the busy road. If you are planning a trip to the area, book here! You will not be disappointed?

Review 13:It's a bit out dated..old furniture etc....one AC unit made a horrible rattling noise (hard to sleep with it on) and the toilet would randomly produce large air bubbles splashing water all over. We were next to laundry matt so might have been a water pressure thing for our specific room (120)...but still!!! Made for a stressful bathroom experience.

Review 14:Spacious suites...nice staff....good location...they upgraded us from a studio to two bedroom with no additional charge.

Review 15:I would have liked to know I was being charged for a deposit at check in.

Review 16:The area being close to the city and the room was very spacious and comfortable.

Review 17:- Old building, room a little bit worn off - Air conditioning could not be switched off - Ventilation system outside was quite noisy

Review 18:+ Big rooms + Very friendly staff + Good location

Review 19:Nothing...

Review 20:The service. The cleaning of rooms. The helpful drivers of the shuttles and the reception . getting the info for tour around the area. Many thanks to Mr. Ryan Elkridge and company. Awesome customer Service. Really enjoyed this. Highly recommended for solo travelers.

Review 21:HVAC system a bit dated but adequate. Entrance to the hotel not easily identified if you have not been there before.

Review 22:Great place for a long stay. New kitchen appliances. Large central room.

Review 23:The decor needs to be updated was old. Couch old leather ripped with a cover over it that moves when you say on it

Review 24:Location to where I needed was great Staff were helpful The room was clean

Review 25:everyone who worked here was great. the people at the front desk were very eager to please and very friendly. the location is great. it is a short safe walk to the metro station and to georgetown. we had a suite. it was very comfortable.

Review 26:The room was overpriced. It had old furniture, very unpleasant smell, loud old air-conditioning system and refrigerator. The bed creaked, and the blanket didn't have a cover, only one bedsheet. I would order this hotel only for own kitchen's availability

Review 27:Staff was friendly, not so bad location, kitchen's availability

Review 28:The furnishings were damaged in the room as well as the pull out sofa being terribly worn. Much of the carpet was wrinkled and aged. The bedroom closet was virtually unusable due to the position of the bed

Review 29:The staff was amazingly friendly and helpful. II enjoyed their eagerness to answer questions & find information for our group.

Review 30:The bathroom was dirty and there was a dead cockroach in the kitchen. Fortunately the next day I was moved to another room and not charged for the first night, however it left me with a not-so-good impression

Review 31:The location is very good.

Review 32:Had some issues with 3 lots of money taken from my account due to accounting errors but these are being rectified. Very helpful and these things happen sometimes.

Review 33:Amazing place and have stayed many times and always exceed expectations.

Review 34:For the price I paid I would have expected breakfast included and not have to dish out more money in the morning.

Review 35:I loved the size ofthe room, kitchen area, office table was able to sit down work on my laptop. Very comfortable hotel to stay at for a long period of time. Also Kudo's to your hotel for providing free apples around the hotel lobby.

Review 36:Incredible staff and facilities; the bathroom and the kitchen are remarkable! and the cleanliness is definitely a milestone! We could say that the way to the tube is a bit far, but they offer the shuttle; hence, problem solved! I do recommend!

Review 37:Towels were not always replenished, glasses in bathroom not changed or cleaned. TV was mostly a bad picture. Stove range needed to be scrubbed. Paint in bathroom pealing. Paint on floor. Tub hot water faucet sounded like a foghorn. Cold water faucet in tub leaked. Makes me wonder if there is mold growing behind the wall. I mentioned some of this to the girl at the desk at checkout, who was very nice.

Review 38:Staff was very friendly. Except for the Shuttle Driver. He made it very clear he did not want conversation, even though the only conversation we tried to have with him was info about the shuttle times and pickups. Never really clear about pickup spots.

Review 39:There's quite a lot of walk from the subway station to the hotel if you don't have a car

Review 40:The hotel is very nice, big room, comfortable bed, kitchen is also available and well equipped if one wants to cook.

Review 41:This is an older hotel. Dated furnishings which makes things look unclean but it's just old.

Review 42:Everything was clean. Staff were very helpful and nice. Excellent location right next to Arlington Cementary. Short walk to metro. Bike rental station close by which I highly recommend.

Review 43:It just little bit old and smell is to bad at the corridor I hope the do some thing

Review 44:Wonderful wonderful wonderful staff Helpful and always smiling and trying there best and that's go with all staff From the front disk to the gander And it's good for long stay

Review 45:Only problem was someone upstairs was I guess building something cause they did not let me sleep one morning but overall it was great

Review 46:Everything was amazing staff was friendly room was great my girlfriend and I loved it

Review 47:The only thing missing at this property is a restaurant of some kind. You have to leave for everything and no where has any parking. Very frustrating for out of town guests unfamiliar with the area.

Review 48:Very nice Hotel, huge suites, very clean and neat throughout, very friendly staff.

Review 49:Inconsiderate guest had left dog in apartment opposite mine that was continually barking. I raised the issue with the Front Desk and was quickly offered a quite room on the same floor temporarily from where I could work

Review 50:Friendly staff and well equipped apartment with comfy bed. Courtesy bus from Apartments to nearest Metro station mornings and evenings.

Review 51:Nothing at all. We loved the place. Some of the guest were a bit rude at times and racists but that is beyond the Hotel's control. Our family still thoroughly enjoyed.

Review 52:The comfort and room. The Suite was a very nice size and the hotel staff was excellent and very friendly.

Review 53:Difinetly needs a make over! Pool closes at 8, a little early if you've gotten back in the evening.

Review 54:Location is great if you want to stay on the outskirts. Kitchen makes it nice if ur on a budget. Shuttle to metro and maps provided made transit super easy.

Review 55:The room was really dirty, we had a small door in our room (with a 1 and 2 yr old it was hard to keep them away from it) that opened up into the wall! It was full of rubble! There was also a large mirror that was propped up on the wall (again bad for the 1 and 2 yr olds) that I asked to have removed for their safety. The couch had a quilted cover on it to hide the spots where the material had actually worn away. The room was NOTHING like it appeared on the internet and we were very disappointed. We actually cut our trip to DC short so we didn't have to stay a second night.

Review 56:It was close to DC. There was a small pool that was cool after a hot day walking around Wahington DC

Review 57:1. Noisy air conditioning system. 2. Same breakfast menu for couple of weeks. 3. No ventilation hood for the kitchen stove.

Review 58:Each and every staff in this hotel should get maximum point. Particularly the front desk staffs work tirelessly and with a smiling face always. They are ready to short out any problem any time. Their helping attitudes for any reason make my stay extremely comfortable. I feel like I am in my home.

Review 59:The facilities and furnishings were a little worn. Appreciated the suite with a door between the bedroom and living room.

Review 60:The location is great, located in Rosslyn with a shuttle to the metro.

Review 61:The couches were very old and torn. The rooms needs need updates.

Review 62:The Staff were very friendly. Liked the Kitchen and looked forward for the cool lemonade drink and cookies at the lobby.

Review 63:The room wasn't clean. There were dead spiders in the bathroom, the tub was filthy when we arrived, the a/c didn't work, there were exposed wires in the outlet and the water took 10-15 minutes to get hot in the shower, bathroom sink and kitchen sink. The staff used the guest elevators and the free coffee and water service was utilized by the cleaning staff- something we have never experienced in all out travels.

Review 64:The staff were very friendly.

Review 65:They need to work more on the breakfast. The choices are limited and the egg wasn't very good. It is very far from Dulles International Airport.

Review 66:I liked the location being close to Rosslyn Metro, the spaciousness of the suites, the staff, free wifi service. Shuttle service.

Review 67:The location was near everything, but the staff was the best part of the stay. Nicest, friendliest, most helpful staff I've ever met in 45 years. Thank you! :)

Review 68:There really wasn't anything to not like, staff was very friendly and helpful! I thought that I had booked our room for one more night only to find out that I had made a mistake. Even though they were booked, the manager was able to arrange it so that we could stay in our room one more night. Phew!

Review 69:The one bedroom suite was very spacious, the decor was kind of "bare bones", but the amount of room made up for that. The bed was really comfortable.

Review 70:The hotel is old, had a musty smell throughout, especially in the room. Carpet was not clean, couch had rips in a few places. Every room was very small. Faucets were old and difficult to operate. Hot water took forever to heat up. WiFi was very slow.

Review 71:The hotel is very close to Washington DC, which was why we chose it. The hotel clerks were very courteous and professional. When we wanted to leave early because the hotel was not wgat we expected, they were very accomidating

Review 72:Overall the facility is a bit run down. Needs some updating and general cleaning, particularly in some rooms. Our original room was not great - air conditioning didn't work, sofa was ripped and torn, not well cleaned etc. When we alerted the staff they were very helpful in moving us to a nicer room that was more recently renovated. The Booking.com listing was not accurate as there was not free parking or breakfast.

Review 73:The staff was very helpful and responsive in fixing the problems we encountered with the facility. They dealt with or fixed all the issues in a timely, friendly manner. The rooms are spacious and well arranged.

Review 74:1) No TV channels were available during my first night stay. 2) Sink in the bathroom did not drain well 3) My bedroom was not big enough for 2 queen beds because I could not open the closet all the way in the bedroom (please see room # 817) 4) No body lotion was provided in the room like other Marriots/Suites that I stayed before, and no travel size body lotion was available to purchase at the hotel.

Review 75:1) WiFi speed is very good compares to others that I have been in DC 2) Free shuttle to the metro 3) Free Lemonade/Water every evening during my stays which was very good after hot days coming from the metro

Review 76:The furniture was all ripped up! I didn't even want to sit on it, and when I told the front desk, they simply replied with,"yes I know we are in the process of renovating ." That didn't help me!

Review 77:The only thing that I didnt appreciate was the fact that I had to pay for my parking per day. I think it should be complimentary with your stay. This was the first time I have ever had to pay to park at any hotel and I travel alot state to state.

Review 78:Although my stay was short all accommodations were perfect. Location to near by attractions and restaurants was ideal for me because my dinner reservations were 5 mins away and everything was accessible. I loved my stay.

Review 79:The staff were extremely helpful, courteous, friendly and professional. The suite was spacious and clean. We're recommending Virginian Suites to all our friends.

Review 80:The parking that you pay 14 dollars for sucks not enough spaces when we came back in that night it was hard to find a parking spot after paying 14 dollars and 87 cents for parking taxes that should have not been a problem! There were no restaurants in the area

Review 81:Nice clean and quiet friendly staff offered coffee water lemonade cookies and fruit in lobby

Review 82:It's not located near the public transportation, but there is a suttle service providencia by the hotel that takes you yo the nearest metro and bus station.

Review 83:It' s a confortable hotel, with spacious modern rooms, fully equipped kitchens. The hotels has loundry service, as well as loundry and drying machines. Every day we had free coffee un our room.

Review 84:homepage promised HD TV, there was just very poor analog one. Shows wear & tear, a little shabby, has seen better times.

Review 85:good location, friendly staff

Review 86:Unfortunately, the beds sag in the middle. If you are single not much of an issue - you can sleep in the middle - but, as a couple, we both awoke each morning with sore backs and not as well rested as we would have liked given the high activity level of our days. The beds would be a game stopper for us on a return visit.

Review 87:We stayed here for 6 days on a first visit to the city. This accommodation is in a good location with a short walk to metro and within walking distance of Georgetown and even DC for those who enjoy the pedestrian experience. There is a complimentary shuttle to the metro and grocery store for those who do not. The excellent Quarterdeck seafood restaurant is just up a quiet side street, with an outdoor patio. Fresh fruit, coffee, lemonade, water and a comfortable and friendly atmosphere in the lobby. We enjoyed many aspects of staying here and the staff were absolutely amazing.

Review 88:No Dislikes

Review 89:I stayed here on my visit to DC, its walking distances from the metro and DC is right over the bridge. Great location and super nice staff. I didn't use the kitchen but it was nice knowing I could if I needed to. The room was super comfortable.

Review 90:The hotel seems to book to capacity, and its size and attractiveness draw group travel clientele. Hallway and in-room noise at all hours on sleeping levels. Staff responded quickly, but there's only so much they can do to quiet noisy groups. The hotel seems to book to capacity.

Review 91:Friendly, efficient, prompt staff. Coffee/water/lemonade in lobby. Shuttle to METRO and grocery stores. Full kitchen with dishwasher in my 1 bdr suite.

Review 92:front desk was physically very small so it was difficult to squeeze in to talk to the person checking me in while other guests were asking questions. also there were a few steps in the lobby area with no clearly visible ramp option. A slight annoyance for me, but may be more difficult if traveling with a wheelchair or stroller.

Review 93:our studio layout room was huge, had a separate kitchen, separate make up / dressing room area, and a small bathroom. great value for the money, since the price was about the same as it was for other normal hotel rooms in the area! staff was very helpful as well.

Review 94:Nice staff, but they didn't know key points for tourists, such as where we could go on foot from the hotel. I would have preferred to stay closer to downtown.

Review 95:Nice hotel, and good value for money.

Review 96:My only complaint would be I wished the shuttle to the metro station ran longer. It's a little bit of a hike back with cold weather.

Review 97:The staff was very friendly and the room was very clean.

Review 98:Kitchen supplies could have included coffee, tea, hot chocolate and Splenda or Equal.

Review 99:Suite was spacious, clean and a great place to relax after visiting and sightseeing. 2 TVs was a nice surprise.

Review 100:I don't like that you must pay for parking in that area. We are use to the bow type shower curtain rode which keeps the curtain off you when showering, when you upgrade maybe think about installing those.

Review 101:The Staff at Virginia Suites was very helpful. We were given all the information we needed for our trip to Washington. We were in walking distance of Arlington Nation Cemetery and the Metro. This is the place to stay if you are looking to stay for one night or the week. The kitchen had everything you needed to cook with and was very roomy! We had just a regular suite and it was larger than most apartments. The complimentary breakfast was also a hit for all. thanks so much hope to see you again.

Review 102:Few light posts in front and car park were not working, the street is a bit further away so it was very dark. They didn't fix it during my week-long stay.

Review 103:Good size of rooms. They provide shuttle service (workdays only) to the closest Metro station, Roslyn. Free coffee in the lobby.

Review 104:The hotel is old. The elevators could not accomodate the people heading for breakfast. Thus sometimes people had to wait 5min to get a ride. The breakfast was awful and during weekdays only served till 9am. The only non-wrapped food available were some apples, bananas and bagels. The rest (waffels, flatbrad, cereals, oatmeals) were available packed only and had to be prepared in a microwave-oven. They often run out of yoghurt, cream cheese, bagels or milk before the end of breakfast time. Dishes/flatware were plastic only. Loud on-site construction work on sunday morning. Loud noise from fridge in the room. The sauna is located in the restrooms and thus separated for men and women.

Review 105:The hotel is 10min walk from Metro Rosslyn which offers direct connection to the Mall. During weekdays the hotel runs a shuttle in the morning (till 2pm) and the afternoon (4-9pm) to/from the metro. The room was very spacious and featured an own kitchen. As we never used it I cannot evaluate it. The room was very clean and the bed was very comfy. A starter kit (3 soft drinks/cookies) and hand-written welcome note was prepared in the room. Coffee/tea/water and fruits/cookies were available in the lobby during the day.

Review 106:There is no ramp into the building, which was inconvenient because we had a stroller. The hotel was almost a mile from the metro station. And breakfast wasn't included for us.

Review 107:I liked how all the rooms were suites, but wish I had asked for a 1 bedroom, this is preferable if you have an extra person with you, my mother in law for example was sleeping on a foldout couch directly in front of our bed. Fresh cookies every night at 7pm, but you better be right there when they come out because they are gone in minutes, literally. Location is close to the pentagon (we were running the Army 10 miler) the monuments and arlington cemetery. If you need car service, call the front desk, they had a great guy come pick us up in a sedan and quickly deliver us almost straight to the race starting line. Front desk was very helpful, brought up milk for my daughter when I called

Review 108:Air conditioning was noisy and not effective Recycling facility was not prominent in the suite

Review 109:Pleasant surprises, ie basket of food, drinks and free goodies in the lobby Huge room

Review 110:The decor is a little dated and the elevators could do with a revamp.

Review 111:Very comfortable break away with a good size room and kitchen including all the china and glassware.

Review 112:Didn't have any dislikes about hotel.

Review 113:Hotel location close to All the things we wanted to see in DC . Metro was close, our first time riding a subway and to visit DC we loved it. Rooms were clean and spacious, bed very comfortable, room service excellent job cleaning rooms . Kitchen was a plus . Front desk and shuttle drivers went above and beyond to help us in any way. Ryan, Eda, Ana ,Aaron and Eyob I want to say a big thank you. We loved our stay at Virginian Suites . It made our 50th anniversary very special life event. The DC visit was great, everyone was kind and helpful. Would stay at Virginian again if in DC area.

Review 114:Felt dated and tired- the place could use a face lift, though they say they are doing it in stages. Kitchen needed work. Bed was too soft for me- rolled to middle with two of us- we had a queen

Review 115:The location was great- if you are not driving, metro is walking distance .Front desk staff very helpful and friendly. Comfortable and spacious room- lots of place to spread out.

Review 116:lack of facilities information. - non of the staff provided info about brakfast or dinner that might be available for guests also about shuttle that is not running between 14:00 -17:00pm. The guest just wait at Rosslyn station with out knowing that there is no shuttle during that time. All and all the hotel should provide more facilities information to all guest.

Review 117:friendly staff. Clean. Big room with nice separate kitchen. Good value. Very fast internet ever!

Review 118:I stayed here twice. My first stay is 5 nights, then I went to SanFrancisco and back to stay here for another 3 nights. They first gave methe room on the 5th floor where I could hear the construction downstairvery clear. I told the reception (lady), she said "the constructionwill be done tonight" which is totally wrong. Next morning I waswaken up by the construction which is extremely loud like it was undermy bed. I called the reception and finally I move to 9th floor. Thestaff both know nothing what's going on in the hotel and justanswered (wrongly). However, they fixed it. The worst thing is on theday I came back for my 2nd stay (2/9/14 early in the morning), Iwent to get my baggage I left with the hotel. The male staff asked thecoffee guy (I saw him clean coffee counter, Asian-looking) to give me mybaggage. The coffee guy complained again and again that my bag is heavy, although I helped him. What made me write this feedback is when I pullin the hotel trolley (as I have 2 bags from San Francisco), there is asmall plastic garbage on the the troller, he picked up the garbage, raised it up to my face and asked me "IS this YOURS?". Iconsidered this is very rude and unacceptable. If he was angry beingasked to bring my baggage, he should show his anger to the staff whoasked him to do, not me. One last thing is this hotel is not close tothe metro at all. After get out of the metro, you have to walk to theintersection, cross the road, walk down the road, cross the bridge, cross the road again and walk up the hill. That' why they provideshuttle bus. However, the shutter bus driver is very nice, very polite.

Review 119:Although I don't cook but good to have small kitchen.

Review 120:Apartment furnishings and decor rather dated. Better management system needed in laundry where guests leave their washing unattended for hours.

Review 121:Very nice special touches such as ice cold juice, tea and coffee available all day in lobby. Also bowls of fresh fruit, a pizza evening etc. Complimentary transport to and from metro and grocery store. Spacious accommodation.

Review 122:cheap pillows, squeaky uncomfortable bed, old kitchen, tilted unusable sofa bed!

Review 123:complementary drinks, kids playground across the street, spacious rooms, nice reasonable parking.

Review 124:I don't like to put negative remarks but I think the hotel really needs to start to renew carpets, washrooms and some furniture. It's just old. But it's clean, that's important. I would not have stayed if it wasn't clean.

Review 125:I liked the idea that I could get around to and from Washington with a shuttle that brought us to the metro station and picked us up afterwards. Last one at 9 PM which gives you lots of time.

Review 126:Inadequate entrance. Not enough information regarding amenities location, eg, ATM, Vending Machines, and the dining area.

Review 127:Cleanliness, & space was a great surprise compared to most other places we have stayed. I think the side bar whith refreshing lemonaide, and water dispensers along with coffee, tea and cocoa was excellent!

Review 128:- Gym has few options

Review 129:- Room size, kitchen and appliances - Complimentary coffee/lemonade/cookies at the lobby, great! - Complimentary Wi-fi - Swimming pool - guards available throughout the day, good for kids - Breakfast - Parking spaces

Review 130:The air conditioner of my room was old, so my room was a little bit smells.

Review 131:All staff members are very kind. Room is very clean. There is a shuttle bus from the hotel to the Rosslyn station. (and another shuttle bus to the "Safeway", or to the "Whole foods" too.).It was very useful for me.

Review 132:Break fast on weeks days closes 9:00am, too early when you're on holiday, At least 10:00am is ok.

Review 133:I like the free week day rides to and from the Rosslyn metro station, there is also a shuttle bus for grocery shopping to Safeway and whole food shops, their staff are ready to help with a smile on the face, my kids enjoyed the lemonade and cookies in the lobby. On fort Meyer st they have a park (play ground) which I took them to, it's a stone throw from hotel main entrance. Double thumbs up.

Review 134:Had a roach in our room. The shuttle to the metro does not run between 2pm and 430pm on the weekdays and never on weekends. If you are going to offer it, offer it every day. The rooms were very outdated, could use a huge spruce up. Air conditioner in the bedroom never got cold.

Review 135:Location! Steps from Arlington Cemetery and a couple blocks from the Rosslyn Metro station. Beds were very comfortable and the Staff was very accommodating.

Review 136:The fold-out couch could only sleep one person, and very uncomfortably at that! The air conditioning and refrigerator both were not very cold (even turned up to the max setting). More chairs for the desk might have been nice when eating dinner/playing cards.

Review 137:The kitchen facilities were very helpful during a long stay; The staff was very efficient and nice in all our exchanges.

Review 138:Not the newest place in town but they were doing work on it. As said earlier good vfm

Review 139:For the price we paid we cannot fault this place. It's location is great for Arlington and DC. Ten dollar taxi from Central DC. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Review 140:DC traffic. Avoid travel anywhere near DC at rush hour. It took two hours to get to DC from Fredericksburg heading north at 9am; it took 40 minutes to get from DC to Fredericksburg heading south at 5:45am.

Review 141:Easy walk to Metro at Rosslyn. Nice spacious suites, although slightly "dated". Easy walk to the Quarterdeck Restaurant, that has the best boiled Maryland Blue Crabs anywhere. Make reservation.
