Reviews for Hotel Flandria-centrum
Review 1:No big deal but the stairs were a little dangerous-especially after a night on strong Belgian beers!
Review 2:Good location with room having a good view of the cathedral.Good breakfast included.I always try to stay here when I go to Gent.
Review 3:Despite a visible attempt to give the room a comfy atmosphere (walls painted in warm colours, antique wooden table), it was actually rather depressing, with a terrible illumination from a single energy-saving light, the sink coming off the wall, hardly any space to move, and a minuscule TV. The WiFi worked well at times, but hardly at all on other occasions. Bathrooms (shared in my case) were clean, but only a single one for the entire floor. The price was rather high for the type of accommodation offered.
Review 4:Excellent central location and very good continental style breakfast buffet. Staff members extremely friendly and helpful.
Review 5:I booked Flandria for one night on www.booking.com 1. First, they could not autorize mt credit card and asked for another one. Oh well.. 2, When I called asking for directions, the receptionist (Tanya Pinn) hung up on me. 3. When I arrived, she threatened to call the police and asked me to leave (several times) - all because I queried the need to use the iron at reception "for safety reasons." First that iron needed to be useв within the next 20 minutes, then it was broken, then it was too late. 4. The Wifi does not work - not with the code provided in the room. 5. The place is a dump - do not believe the pictures! These people should not be in the hospitality business!
Review 6:NOTHING!
Review 7:No lift. The bathroom wasn't great. Toilet didn't always flush. The breakfast didn't have a great deal to choose from.
Review 8:The bedroom was spacious and clean.
Review 9:I came to Gent for an internet developers' conference and specifically asked for one thing: "A quiet room with wifi working in the room". Unfortunately, the hotel chose to put me in a room that did not receive the hotel wifi correctly at all, and did not inform me of that. In addition, the hotel asked for payment on arrival, still without informing me that the room would not meet my needs. When I discovered the problem and informed the hotel that the wifi in the room was not working, they made no attempt to improve the situation and did not propose any alternative to staying in that one room without wifi. I ended up paying 150+ euros for 3 days for a very tiny room (roughly 8 m2), without toilet or shower (the shower was shared with several other rooms 30 feet down the hall) and very poor wifi connectivity... and had to spend most of the time in the hotel lobby for the needed wifi. Also, the tiny room suffered from mildew and smells (from the next-door public toilet?) that became too strong if the window did not remain continually open. Indeed, it was open when I arrived, so the hotel staff is aware of the problem! At least the heater worked to keep the room not too cold at night with the window left open. Bottom line: The hotel should have had the decency to inform me at the time of reservation that they could not meet my *one* request and had no intention of trying to do so, so that I could have stayed elsewhere and not had such a problematic experience. Even if the wifi *did* work, paying 50+ euros a night for 8m2 next to a public toilet, with bathroom in the room, is a poor deal. This is Gent, not New York City, Moscow or Tokyo. The breakfast was also disappointing and unhealthy: Not a single fresh fruit was available! I would definitely stay elsewhere.
Review 10:The screen over the window, which spoiled the view but allowed the window to be open without letting in mosquitoes (keeping the window open was very necessary to counteract the strong odors in the room, which is probably why it was open was I arrived).
Review 11:Stairs as all mentioned
Review 12:Very helpful and friendly staff. Room quite spacy and clean. Little bit humid. Good location, close to city center, and tourist visiting area.
Review 13:Not good value for money. Staff very keen to get payment before showing you the room. No secure parking associated with hotel. No complementary tea/coffee for guests. Cracked floor tiles in bathroom. Decor of room was drab and low key.
Review 14:Friendly staff. Good location in Gent. Room was private and allowed access without going past reception.
Review 15:The Room was quite cramped and a bit run down. The Breakfast was very basic and below standard.
Review 16:The location of the Hotel was good and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 17:No bad experience.
Review 18:This pleasant hotel was close to the city centre but down a quiet street. The staff were very helpful and spoke better English than I did. Nice breakfast to round off a pleasant stay.
Review 19:Difficult to find with sat nav due roadworks. Once there no parking. despite directions from lovely receptionist parking hard to find. someone should be on hand to go with guests in car to direct to underground car park.
Review 20:The door was hard to open too our room and the matras was 2 singles who got split during the night.
Review 21:the location is good, in the middle of the historical centre
Review 22:I knew I had to share a bathroom, but didn't expect it to be 30m away. The loo next to my room was awkwardly tiny and was less than fragrant. There was no lift and getting my massive suitcase up and down winding stairs was a nightmare, with no offer of help. Glad to have wifi, but it was intermittent.
Review 23:Location was great, room was clean and comfortable and fine for the price. Breakfast was very good.
Review 24:The hotel looks like a house that was made into a hotel. The room was right under the roof, so it got extremely hot. There were long, winding stairs up to the room. The bathroom was gross: the toilet was black and the sink faucet falling off. Breakfast was decent, although it looked like there was soap foam in the coffee.
Review 25:The hotel is well-located, near beautiful downtown Ghent. The staff was helpful.
Review 26:NA - I liked everything.
Review 27:Everything about this hotel was great: staff; breakfast; bed; room; location; and particular fabulous value for money. Also the Ghent festival was excellent.
Review 28:They have no lift and the stairs are narrow and difficult to negotiate especially with a suitcase' They have no vending machine for drinks or snacks The walls are thin Reception staff friendly and helpful
Review 29:Moderate price Friendly and helpful reception staff
Review 30:Nice and cozy hotel near the center of Gent, 15-20 min walking to Damport station. Very comfortable bed and really good breakfast. And surprisingly quiet btw.
Review 31:I have nothing but praise for your Hotel. You allocated me a charming en-suite room at the top of of the Hotel. I was also impressed by the staff's friendliness and willingness to provide information and assistance.
Review 32:Room was clean, but not very nice; this is more of a hostel than a hotel.
Review 33:The hotel/hostel is in a great location, with the city center only blocks away. Decent price for Ghent.
Review 34:Shared bathroom and a little tired in places - but the best deal
Review 35:Excellent position close to the center of Gent and the best deal, good standard breakfast
Review 36:The room is good to crash for a night. Very cheap hostel like decor. I was embarrassed that I haven't chosen something else...
Review 37:The location is fab as well as the breakfast: coffee, tea, milk, and juice to drink. Nice choice of freshly inhouse baked breads, eggs, ham n cheese, some cereals with a selection of jams n yoghurt. Home like breakfast
Review 38:The only downside is trying to find hotel. However, it's ideally located in a quiet road and I would recommend it.
Review 39:Very helpful staff and made to feel at home.
Review 40:Everything the bed room and the room was spelling
Review 41:Nothing I like there and will never go back or tell anyone about the hotel . Only the staff were nice and helpful
Review 42:Shower and toilet too far from the room, but thats about it. Really enjoy my stay in Ghent
Review 43:Located nearby most of Ghent attractions, with free breakfast. Staff is quite accomodating, even ask them to send my postcards. Will certainly return here if i get another chance.
Review 44:Very, very small double, so that on one side you had to climb over the bed and could not get out on that side ! Sink squeezed into room, but not even a glass or cup for water. No wardrobe, just some rail. No tea or coffee making facilities in room or elsewhere. Parking to load or unload is on illegal corner, just one car possible. Breakfast basic but okay. Men's bathroom on another floor, far away, so had to use Ladies, still up steps and not close. Was prepared for basic, but it was below basic.
Review 45:Very handy for walking to main attractions in town.
Review 46:This hotel needs an urgent renovation! The bathroom needs new tiles, the smell in there was very nasty, the comfort in the room was poor - it was dark cos there were no proper lights, no bed tables, the bed was comfy enough , but the floor was sloped so when you lay down you have a feeling that you'll drop .I'm not saying that you really will fall down, it's just you feel you will and that's very annoying ...
Review 47:Location The heating system was excellent kind staff
Review 48:Attached bathroom and toilet was a big miss
Review 49:The best part was location of the hotel right at the heart of the city ... I stayed in a double which was quite big enough with clean bedsheets , towels and blankets...
Review 50:Basically a hostel rather than a hotel. Probably not so comfortable or ideal for a family.
Review 51:Comfortable bed and ensuite in triple room. Very central location. Good for a group of friends who just need somewhere to sleep.
Review 52:It is close to a train station, but due to my booking my train through a French site, I was unable to find what train station I was arriving to. This hotel was Not close to the train station I arrived to, nor the one I had to leave from. The toilet in the bathroom was poorly situated, u have to step over the toilet to get to the shower and there is no room for your knees when u use the toilet, unless u straddle it.
Review 53:It is close to the old part of town and is a short walk to all the main attractions. Comfortable room (excluding the bathroom) with a great Internet signal.
Review 54:Shower drain was clogged in shared bathroom, hotel was on a side street and difficult to find
Review 55:Friendly receptionist gave a free map of the city, very close to city center (walking distance to many shops, restaurants, historic sites), breakfast served
Review 56:Room was comfy but a little tired e.g. some damage to the window sill and shower head crudely fixed into one position. Breakfast was a bit better than some places e.g. good quality bread but they could provide better quality ham and cheese.
Review 57:Great location, a short walk to the main historic sites yet very quiet. Staff were helpful and the hotel was clean. Breakfast is included in the price. More homely than a cheap chain hotel. Fine for a short stay. Would recommend Ghent (or Gent or Gant!). A wonderful city.
Review 58:1) Our room looked a little bit old. But we saw some other rooms in the hotel that looked much better.
Review 59:1)The people were very friendly and very helpful. 2)Very nice breakfast 3)Excellent location 4) Value for money
Review 60:- The shower feels pretty old and there isn't an hair dryer - The room is a bit noisy - Notice that you need to get permissions for your dogs before arrival. In my case they didn't allow me to leave my (big) dogs without supervision. Importamt to mention that the staff were very nice while dealing with this issue.
Review 61:Great location, kind stuff and a nice breakfast.
Review 62:I was given a room on the second floor and it's very challenging bring up 25kg luggage up the steep staircase. There was no air conditioned in the room. Although it's September, it's very warm at night and I found it hard to sleep. I was given a table fan but that didn't help much to cool the room down.
Review 63:This hotel was located very near the historical city center. Yet it's far enough to avoid all the noises from tourist. The room is clean. Towels and other basic amenities were provided. The receptionists were nice and friendly.Breakfast was included.
Review 64:We received 3 bed room no 1. It was right on the street and eventhough there is no traffic there are aleays people in thr street and thats pretty loud. We couldnt sleep at all.
Review 65:Very noce staff and amazing location.
Review 66:Forgot to turn out the interior light in my car. Battery flat. Butalmost all Belgians spoke English, and were very helpful. Usually Idrive through Belgium bit if you want to come this a fine hotel and yourvisit will be worth it. No complaints!
Review 67:Very comfortable bed, small street, so quiet, very close to the placesone wants to visit. Extremely pleasant couple run the hotel as afamily business.
Review 68:Location in relation to city centre. It's in a back street but thats fine. 5 min walk to both canals and all nightlife, restaurants. Very clean crisp linen and pillows, comfy beds, good breakfast. Excellent value.
Review 69:after 18.00 the receptionist has gone and there was no access to the computer with the internet. we forgot to ask the wi-fi password, so we've been left without internet connection for the evening
Review 70:central location, very nice breakfast, cozy room, huge windows, perfect view, very clean and nice
Review 71:I don't have a problem, personally, but like most Flemish houses, the stairs are very steep & quite narrow. Nor will you find plugs in your bathroom sink or bath - for ecological reasons. If you do want a bath, bring your own plug :) It's an old house; naturally it has its quirks; and hey, what do you want for that price? This is the 2nd time I've stayed here, and look forward to staying here again.
Review 72:The hotel is a converted residential property (possibly two knocked together). The ambience was relaxed and friendly and the staff welcoming. The free computer was a nice touch too. The room was clean, the bed fine, and the breakfast filling. The shower room was at the end of a corridor, but likewise clean and comfortable.
Review 73:The room felt a bit small, and it was a bit warm.
Review 74:The hotel is run by very nice people and is very clean. The breakfast is good. The location is great and we easily walked everywhere. The parking suggested by the hotel is very good, reasonably priced and a small walking distance from the hotel.
Review 75:It was very hot in Gent when we were there and only one of the two windows had a screen, so there were a lot of mosquitos in our room at night. I had bites all over my body. We were given a fan and some insect repellant when we asked.
Review 76:The staff were fantastic as was the location. The staff were very helpful in all aspects - the room, the city, getting around, calling taxis... The location is very central to the city center. Breakfast was very good and always well stocked. The room was a good size, clean and had a good bathroom.
Review 77:WiFi didn't work. My first room was very old and smelled bad, but then I moved to a better one. No elevator.
Review 78:comfortable room (the second one) excellent location quiet place excellent breakfast excellent stuff
