Reviews for Phelwana Game Lodge

Review 1:Was very very hot and only had a couple of fans (no aircon) to try and keep cool at night.

Review 2:Arriving at the lodge when it was over 40 degrees, each chalet has its own plunge pool and it was heaven.

Review 3:Excelent staying, staff very friendly and efficient, the tours to kruger and manyeleti are superb, Elardus, the guide is fantastic! The pool in front of the room is so nice! Don't pay a lot of money for kapama, go to phelwana and do the Kruger and Big 5 safari in manyeleti!

Review 4:Don't like the road to the Lodge.... the road look nice from far but actually to much bumping all the way to the lodge. Can't drive over 20 km/h, at some location have to drive 5 km/h. Hotel owner along the road have to work together for improving the road situation.

Review 5:For me Location is very nice... I and my wife really Like it.

Review 6:THERE IS NOTHIN THAT I DIDNT LIKE EVERY THINK WAS AMAZING

Review 7:The stuff are more than amazing every one over there is smilling The room was excilant , comfortable and clean The hotel 45 min form the national park They stuff can organise you trip without any problem , safarie , and all other activity They dont have the big five but they can organise a tripe to see all the big 5

Review 8:The long dirt Road wasn't a plus and the closest town being 40 kms away wasn't a bonus either, other than that no complaints :)

Review 9:Very Lovely pretty staff :) the room was amazing and lovely location

Review 10:The place was perfect. We were looking for a relaxing place with access to game drives. This place was clean & spacious, the food was great, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. They also arranged for game drives within their property. While you won't find the big 5 here, it's a nice intro with lots of giraffes and zebras. The rides were very enjoyable, especially with Steve's knowledge about the area and animals. Kruger park was only 30min away by car, and they can arrange for someone to come pick you and drop you back off which is very convenient. Overall great stay, and we got exactly what we were looking for.

Review 11:Nothing

Review 12:Absolutely everything!!! New lodge right outside of Kruger park with amazing in lodge wild and game. The staff was as well hosting as family and not just to us, to everyone. Fun activities and awesome rooms, specially the tints facing the pool but all others are huge luxury as well. We were there on our honeymoon and in 3 days we had more fun than 15 days all over South Africa. Book it, enjoy it and please maintain the place for when we go back again :) Nir and Ashley from Nolita NY

Review 13:The attention to detail in every aspect is unbelievable. You truely get 5 star service at a very affordable rate. Staff are extremely friendly and make you feel at home. Can't wait to come back for my next visit.

Review 14:Everything... It is an amazing place, the location, staff, food... Do not look any further this is totally value for money++++ and you are in the heart of a beautiful and friendly part of true africa

Review 15:The only thing we didn't like was the "come together dinner" on one big table. I can see the point, but : On business occasions I do have to have dinner and small talk with far too many people I am not at least interested in, so when on holidays I prefer to choose my dinner company by myself ;)

Review 16:A calm and relaxing place. Monkeys at your private pool, giraffes gracing round your porch during night. Charming service, especially Nathaniel. Fantastic food.

Review 17:We expected our room to have lagoon views but it didn´t.

Review 18:The apartment was very beautiful, with little private pool. The lobby is fantastic to relax. Everything beautifully decorated

Review 19:everything was perfect can't complain

Review 20:mr Jeffrey the waiter went above and beyond his customer care is truly truly excellent and absolutely enjoyed the game drive our guide was very knowledgeable and we had the best experience of the drive and the stay the food was really devine

Review 21:A great place to spend time with wild animals in their natural habitat, relative density of the animals, distribution of the spacious cabins around a water dam with good chances of seeing them from your terrace, excellent food in the restaurant

Review 22:The road in is a little rough. Visitors should hire a 4 x 4 vehicle if possible. Makes life a good deal more comfortable.

Review 23:The lodges are excellent, each with its own pool. The staff are all very attentive. We were so well looked after. There were game drives and bush walks (all inclusive). The accommodation was cleaned within an inch of its life every day and the food was out of this world. We were never hungry during our stay. We had zebra, giraffes and velvet monkey in the garden!!

Review 24:We had a great time at the Phelwana game lodge. Right from the start we had a warm welcome from a giraffe family, zebras and hippos. And then we had the best time with the wonderful people working there. Gorgeous own hut with a pool just for us. At daytime we were allowed to walk around the lodge and watch the animals. In the evening we had a beautiful dinner made with best ingredients. Thank you to all from Phelwana who gave a great time to remember.

Review 25:From the moment we arrived it was real - Giraffes, Hippo's Impala, Wildebeast, Waterbuffalo - it was just awesome. The staff were incredibly friendly - knowledgable - and we will definitely be going back.

Review 26:I'm a blossoming business owner,so I constantly have to touch base with my office. Couldn't do that effectively cos there is no signal in the chalets, only at the restaurant deck/outside dining area.It was a bit of nightmare, but we survived

Review 27:Awesome getaway,tranquil surroundings,surrounded by giraffes & hippos,very relaxing atmosphere.We had a blast.Wanna try the tent next time.

Review 28:The only downside is it's a fenced camp so you won't get to see most of the Big 5, except what they have on camp. On the plus side, since it's a smaller area they usually have a pretty good idea of where all the animals are so you are guaranteed sightings.

Review 29:Fantastic property, very well run & really nice staff. The chalets were beautiful & right on the lake, so picturesque. Got to see quite a lot of wildlife (including a buffalo darting procedure).

Review 30:We stayed in one of the two tents. It was very special and could indeed best be described as 'glamping'. Friendly staff, Nice food and great game viewing.

Review 31:Wifi in main lodge was finicky. It could be improved with another, well-placed router. However, that's not why we went to South Africa (!),so it's not a big issue. (2) Some of the information from the staffwasn't quite right (directions; problem with a boat tripreservation). I repeat, however, this is a wonderful place.

Review 32:Wonderful place. We liked pretty much everything. Great staff, greatfood, very nice accommodations and property. We were a family of 4(young adult "kids") and we all loved it. Four nightswasn't enough. Highly recommended.

Review 33:We had an absolutely amazing time at the lodge, Stephen and Lizzan and the rest of the team were phenomenal hosts, they are so friendly and welcoming and they took care of any request or need we had. The place is megical, like being hosted at the house of wild animals, you can feel the pulse of the life at the African Bush.

Review 34:Not easy to get a WiFi signal, the private pool with tiny and no heating system ,

Review 35:The staff friendly and helpful, the luxury tent was really good and clean, , the safari game was really exciting

Review 36:Breakfast is good but basic; dinners are very well made but average. Venison potjiekos today, Venison casserole tomorrow...

Review 37:The luxury tents are awesome and sparkly clean. Situation at the wateredge is wonderful. The whole place is very neat and extremely well kept, Pierre and crew are doing a great job. Since there´s Hippos roaming the place you are discouraged to wander around at night and will be chauffeured to dinner.

Review 38:we love the setting, the place, the lovely and elegant forniture and above all the kindness of all the team Great place Great PEOPLE! strongly recommended:)))

Review 39:Housekeeping wasn't up to standard with the rest of the facilities and staff who went the extra mile, housekeeping did not.

Review 40:The waiting staff were excellent and went above and beyond

Review 41:Only downside was there was no aircon in the chalet and it gets pretty hot out there. There are fans though. Also remember there is no TV in the chalet we were in. I didn't mind that but some people may.

Review 42:From the moment we booked Phelwana, the service and communication has been awesome. We were met at the door with a drink and dinner was provided to us at our own individual chalet. The accommodation was great, overlooking a pond /dam where we saw heron, 3 type of kingfisher, monkeys and many other things. Best of all were the staff. All very, very friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be back for a longer stay

Review 43:Perfect start when you arrive and Elvis is already waiting with wet towels and a coctail. Great lodge with great service. Go for the tents in front of the lake. The Hippos will entertain you all night. A one in a lifetime experience.

Review 44:Nothing at all

Review 45:Everything from the lovely owners to all of the staff who were attentive but discreet , we stayed in the luxury tents and they were an experience you must try , sitting on the deck the narla came to visit us and the hippos were in the dam , lovely that it's safe to walk around and e xperience this wonderful country, the food was 5 star as was everything else , I would Love to go back

Review 46:We had a hard time finding the place.

Review 47:We had a superb stay here for one night on Christmas Eve. They were amazing in accommodating our young children. The service is superb.

Review 48:Its a bit on the expensive side for south african to go and visit. Example beeing 1 beer and 1 cocktail and 1 breakfast for 2 was R460.00

Review 49:Super friendly staff - the best service

Review 50:the roads inside the lodge are not very good

Review 51:The breadfast and service

Review 52:The road is bumpy, had we known we could have used a 4x4

Review 53:The meals were very nice

Review 54:One small criticism, our 3 bed-roomed chalet only had one bathroom

Review 55:Fantastic staff great food and a lovely peaceful atmosphere

Review 56:great people, great place, no need to look further, we will come again

Review 57:No wifi in the rooms

Review 58:Very close to the Orpen gate. Very friendly and helpful staff!

Review 66:A very tranquil setting - the staff were very welcoming and delicious food!

Review 67:- WiFi only near reception - no heating at (detached) apartment

Review 70:We had 2 fantastic night at the Phelwana Game Lodge. The staff was very friendly and helpful! The tent accommodation was amazing!

Review 71:A TV in the bar would be great

Review 72:The atmosphere and Internet gallery lived up to reality.

Review 73:Staff couldn't do enough for us, food and accommodation were excellent.

Review 74:This is an amazing spot. Waking up in the morning and having giraffes passing by your window is incredible.really loved the place

Review 75:Access road in bad condition.

Review 76:Wild animals right outside the door. Privacy and attentive staff.
