Reviews for Ballastone Inn

Review 1:Issues with AC. Toilet had problems and would.jot stop running. Breakfast, 300$ for a night with OJ from concentrate...

Review 2:Location was great. Staff was excellent.

Review 3:Enjoyed the historic home giving us a genuine feeling of stepping back in time into the grace and leisure of the privileged of a bygone era. Met enjoyable guests and the hospitality was excellent making us feel very welcome in their inn.

Review 4:Nothing to say

Review 5:Absolutely fantastic staff. Great breakfast and afternoon tea and then wine. Great location, VERY clean and comfortable. Highly recomended.

Review 6:The bathroom was a little dated, but otherwise it was a great experience.

Review 7:We loved the charm and character of the hotel and room. The fireplace is a great touch as well. We stayed in the "China Trade" suite. The breakfast was plentiful and great.

Review 8:I am an early riser and the facility cannot accommodate that. Apparently the location is not in the safest neighborhood. They also charged me for a night after I checked out.

Review 9:I was booked for 3 nights and checked out after the first night.

Review 10:What's there no to like; from Ms. Melissa to young staff of design students everything was marvelous

Review 11:Charming inn with well-maintained old furniture - no creaks, scratches, stains, dust ball to make it look "like old"

Review 12:Not a thing

Review 13:Of course there are many beautiful bed and breakfasts to choose from in savannah The Ballastone is no exception. The location simply could not be more perfect. Beautiful details throughout the home, comfortable appointments from the luxurious robes to soft subtle sheets. What truly made our stay wonderful was the staff. Each and every staff member made us feel like family. Melissa went above and beyond in every way. We will stay again and recommend this wonderful bed and breakfast to our family and friends

Review 14:Jacuzzi tub in our room tripped the circuit breaker each time we tried to use it. Staff did however refund our money for the more expensive jacuzzi equipped room back to a lower room price.

Review 15:Wonderful 4 pm tea with cakes. Evening cocktails. Excellent breakfasts. Historically appointed residence.

Review 16:I was traveling with a friend, so we had the room with the twin single beds. They were a little lumpy, but the rest of the place made up for it, so it was actually negligible.

Review 17:Fantastic staff, with a brilliant atmosphere. We will be back for a third time!

Review 18:Could not say anything bad about it.

Review 19:Service was outstanding. Excellent chef. Made all reservations for us. Treated everyone like they were a celebrity!!!

Review 20:Our room was very poor. In the basement. Across the hall from the kitchen so very noisy. Overcrowded with furniture. Stains on ceiling and black mold or mildew stains by one AC vent. Very worn carpet on stairs.

Review 21:The staff is friendly and the food was good.

Review 22:The air conditioning was set and could not be lowered. It was very humid and warm in our room and very uncomfortable to sleep. We felt sticky and sweaty the whole time we were there.

Review 23:Location was wonderful and within walking distance to almost everything. Stairs to enter the building were steep and getting luggage up the stairs was a problem. Not sure how they get around handicap access.

Review 24:We were in a room adjacent to the front desk and public areas. This was not a problem in the morning, but at night we had to listen to the night clerk loudly great each couple as they returned. This was especially irritating after 11pm. We'll book a room on an upper floor next time.

Review 25:The inn is beautiful, clean and located only a short walk from most of the main attractions in the historic district. The breakfast and high tea offerings were consistently great.

Review 26:There is not a single aspect of The Ballastone to complain about!

Review 27:The hotel is centrally located in a charming 19th century townhome. The staff attended to our every need, including owner Jennifer who detailed list of must see antique dealers for reasonable treasures to carry home! Attention to detail as far as service and decor are outstanding! A true Savannah landmark to be sure! Rooms were all unique and offered period furniture pieces, evening turn-down, fireplaces, and comfortable seating. The common areas of the B&B offered a charming tea room, parlor, lounge and patio which were incredibly decorated with impecable attention to detail.

Review 28:A mini fridge would have been nice to have in the room. Parking was terrible, there really is no parking. Luckily city ordinance allows parking in almost any space on weekend within downtown areas. Metered street parking is even open and free.

Review 29:Hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. Interior was old world charming. Many sitting areas throughout with functional fireplaces, including the room. Walking distance of River street and market areas. Nice bar within hotel, and breakfast was great.

Review 30:Room was often cold. Heating duct in bathroom didn't drive enough heat to bedroom.

Review 31:Staff was simply awesome. They were able to accommodate everything we asked for.

Review 32:Parking is limited, first come first serve, so you may have to look for nearby metered parking. But that is par for the course for any B&B in downtown Savannah.

Review 33:Perfect location within walking distance of all historic district attractions; beautifully decorated, extremely comfortable, friendly and accommodating staff, you feel like you have come home. Food is delicious, with included breakfast between 8:30 and 9:30, afternoon Tea at 4 pm, sherry and port with appetizers in the early evening. Bar available at all times. Cozy parlor with fireplace for meeting folks and chatting or nooks for quiet reading.

Review 34:Nothing to dislike

Review 35:Very good location for exploring the historic district of Savannah. The rooms are spacious, very comfortable and clean. Excellent breakfast, afternoon tea and evening bar snacks. Very welcoming and friendly staff.

Review 36:Busy street (noisy) with a fire dept (sirens) a few doors down. B&B has 16 rooms w/ 3 parking spots and 3 tandem parking spots. The bed in our room was too hard for wife, fine for hubby.

Review 37:Location great for historic sites. Walked to everything. Fantastic hot breakfast w/other choices. Charming courtyard. 4 pm tea, 6 pm hors d'oeuvres, port & sherry a nice bonus. Enjoyed chatting with other guests during these times.

Review 38:It was the best introduction to the Old South. The Ballastone meets - exceeds - every expectation you might have for a stay in a B&B/Inn. If you like Victorian decor, this is the place - absolutely beautiful!

Review 39:I can not think of a single thing!!

Review 40:The charm of the hotel was wonderful, very warm and comfortable. When you entered the foyer it was like taking a trip back in time. The staff were very friendly and polite and the service was excellent. We also enjoyed the excellent hot breakfast that was servied as part of the room rate!!

Review 41:Our stay was perfect from the time we walked through the door. The staff are attentive to every detail to assure that guests enjoy their stay! Excellent twice over!!

Review 42:Did not like all the staires. Staff was very friendly. Food was cold . I ask for cereal they gave me cold pancakes. But it was very pretty to be a old building...

Review 43:Staff, food, and rooms

Review 44:Great staff, beautiful rooms and common areas, afternoon tea was great.

Review 45:There isn't a personal safe in the room. The air vents needed a good cleaning.

Review 46:The location was exceptional and the staff were wonderful.

Review 47:Price

Review 48:Bed and breakfast, inns are our favorites.

Review 62:The service and the location.

Review 63:Service was without equal...

Review 64:The location was great. Most of what we wanted was within walking distance

Review 65:We had a CONFIRMED RESERVATION But they did NOT have a room for us.

Review 84:The staff and food were both outstanding!

Review 85:Nothing.

Review 86:Loved everything. The staff is special. A wonderful old south experience.

Review 87:Nothing to say I didn't like- it was wonderful

Review 88:Very comfortable, felt very special snd staff were wondefc- treated you like treasured guests.

Review 89:None

Review 90:Amazing place. Staff is wonderful and very attentive. We will definitely be returning.

Review 91:Excellent staff. Location central to many squares, historical and entertainment sites.

Review 92:I haven't come across anything that I didn't like, other than the cost per night. I wish it were $50-75 less, at least for multiple evening stays.

Review 93:It is in a wonderful location. The staff is very friendly, helpful and unobtrusive. You feel like it is your house the entire time you are there- lots of comfortable cozy locations to hang out in. The beds are the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in- the first time I stayed at the Ballastone, I searched for the labels of the sheets and comforter and ordered them for my own bed when I got home. The best sleep ever.

Review 94:The hospitality and helpfulness of the staff, the excellent breakfasts which were different every day, along with the little extras like the 4:00 tea with creative tasty little appetizers, the sherry put out on the bar with small bites at 6:00 all added up to a very pleasant stay.

Review 95:Having to leave.

Review 96:The staff was incredibly courteous (Melissa, the operations manager is amazing), and exceeded every expectation. The attention to detail, and delicious food will have us coming back for more.

Review 97:Not anything to dislike. A small suggestion would be to have a staff member at the front desk at all times. A few times we had to wait a while, but it was not a major concern.

Review 98:The bed was like sleeping on a cloud - sooo comfortable! I loved the location since we could walk everywhere. And the breakfasts were above average. Great stay. I would definitely return.

Review 99:Parking was minimal, but they do a GREAT job of making it work! Wifi was spotty at times, on top floor.

Review 100:Breakfast's were good, help was excellent, location was great, daily food / wine was nice touch.

Review 101:You have to go downstairs for coffee in the morning and I like to have mine in bed

Review 102:Charming accommodations, caring and friendly staff, wonderful perks like afternoon tea, wine hour and a full hot breakfast. The bed linens are super luxurious too! Very quiet for a small inn.

Review 103:- Your stay really depends on the room you get. At first they wanted to give us a room in the English Basement with. - Breakfast is pretty underwhelming - The hotel is located on one of the main roads which means it can be noisy. If you don't mind traffic noise then it's fine.

Review 104:- It IS a beautiful mansion with lots of atmosphere and character. -The staff is friendly. - Centrally located, but... (see 'What didn't you like?').

Review 105:The average age of the guests was quite a bit older. I am in my 30s and felt like a whipper snapper. Not really bad, just not exactly what I had anticipated.

Review 106:This place couldn't have been better. It is completely charming, in a wonderful location with a very good breakfast and delightful staff. I would definitely stay there again.

Review 107:Our room, Mary Musgrove, seemed to be the least desirable of the ones I looked at. There was nothing wrong with it other than that it was crowded with furniture and painted a dark red which is not ideal in a north facing room. Removing some of the furniture would help. The other rooms seemed to be exceptionally well decorated.

Review 108:The location is excellent and the house is very nicely decorated in period style. The breakfast service is well done in the inn's various public rooms.

Review 109:The bar. A better stocked bar, wine & spirit, would be great for a late night drink after a meal in the town

Review 110:A lovely, friendly, comfortable environment.

Review 111:air conditioning system was lock at 70 . it was either too cold or too hot .not good for sleeping . parking was a problem. we should have been told about city parking lot one block away instead of trying to put quarters in a two hr meter and having to get up before eight am to put money in a meter when we wanted to sleep in

Review 112:the location was close to everything

Review 113:The decor is outdated. Too many floral prints, and while this may suit the style of this home, it felt claustrophobic. Bathrooms need an update! Scarlet room had huge jacuzzi and tiny single sink and shower. Again, I estimate bathroom had not been redone in 30 years. Major disappointment was the bed/ mattress. It sagged in the middle and my husband spent a sleepless night.

Review 114:Staff was exceedingly gracious, especially Melissa. Tea and breakfast come with room. The food was exceptionally delicious - Southern flair and cooked to perfection, served in lovely rooms on first floor. Garden patio as well. Location is perfect to see all of Savannah's historic district.

Review 115:Not enough glassware left for self service beverages. Hard to locate a staff person at times.

Review 116:Breakfast good. Bed comfortable. Loved the towels. Afternoon tea nice.

Review 117:Our room did seem somewhat cramped. I was also concerned about your tipping system and whether or not our gratuity actually reached those employees who were helpful to us.

Review 118:We enjoyed every aspect of our stay.

Review 119:Absolutely nothing.

Review 120:A one off treasure! The character of the building, and the rooms. The staff are brilliant and always smiley. Lovely breakfasts, individual each day. Complimentary afternoon tea, and canapés in the evening. Superb beds and linen. Free parking at rear of building.

Review 121:This Bed & Breakfast is a real gemstone right in the middle of Savannah's historic district. Outstanding staff and well appointed rooms had made our stay an enjoyable experience!

Review 122:If I had to find something, it might be the limited parking. However the staff made every effort to help the situation and we were able to park our car for our entire stay.

Review 123:Lovely southern B&B! Accommodations and "public" rooms made you feel that you were a welcome guest in a friend's home. Afternoon tea, and evening snacks were a wonderful extra. Staff extremely knowledgable and helpful.

Review 124:The hotel is in a perfect position for exploring the historic district. Our room was spacious, clean and the bed was very comfortable breakfast was really good with a different chefs special every morning. The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. This is out second stay at the ballastone ....we will return.
