Reviews for Big Bear Motel

Review 1:We came in so late at night, and were so pleasantly greeted. Kind staff, clean grounds, easy to get in and out, and plenty of services and restaurants nearby

Review 2:So worth the money! Staff was excellent and the room was perfect for us. Cheaper than the other hotels. We saved $300 by choosing Big Bear Motel and it was the right choice. No breakfast included but there are many restaurants in town. There's even a WalMart incase you want to grab food and eat on the road. 50 minutes from Yellowstone East Gate.

Review 3:Stairs to upper level were a little creepy. Lighting over vanity/sink was poor. It seemed a little pricey, but I don't know what other places were charging in this "tourist" destination.

Review 4:Location at west end of town was convenient to visiting Yellowstone. Good to have pet friendly rooms, pool and playground area. Staff was very helpful, went out of their way to help. Nice to have fridge & Micro.

Review 5:Didn't like that the room had no phone, bedside table lamp didn't work, toilet paper was too thin, no Kleenexes. Would have liked to see pics on the walls. There were none.

Review 6:We liked the location and the room size.

Review 7:the towels were very thin and scratchy. No breakfast. No hair dryer and no iron

Review 8:It was the perfect setup for us and our 4 grandkids. Plenty of room and beds for everyone

Review 9:Charged for ice (even at peak season -- so you're paying a lot for the room), staff weren't particularly friendly (challenging really normal requests), car park was crowded (although not really their fault), horses on site so there's a bit of a 'nature' smell (but guess this can be a bonus if you like horses), can hear car park (but then it's a motel...)

Review 10:Location was good for getting to Yellowstone, views from location were beautiful, was clean enough, good little cafe opposite

Review 11:When we checked in we were told we could check out at 11:00am. At 9:00am housekeeping knocked on the door and wanted to know when we would be out of the room because they needed to clean it.

Review 12:The rudeness and overcharging of the manager! The staff trying to rush us out of the rooms before it was time to check out!

Review 13:The room was nice! Mountains around were beautiful! Liked chairs to set in by room door!

Review 14:Some of pillows long past retirement condition. The beds were not very comfortable. The toilet paper was awful.

Review 15:Location easy to find; desk clerk was friendly; the room and furnishings were clean

Review 16:Would have liked a continental breakfast but it does drive you to the town to support the locals and there are great breakfast options.

Review 17:Very clean facilities and friendly staff.

Review 18:For the money, they could include coffee makers rather than having to walk to the office for a cup of brew.

Review 19:The small "cottages" were cute, clean and comfortable. Staff was accomodating.

Review 20:The hotel was located on the outskirts of Cody so you didn't have all the busy hubbub. Although it was about an hour drive from Yellowstone, the scenery along the way was gorgeous!

Review 21:No bathroom vent. Quaint, a bit outdated décor, but comfortable. No in room coffee pot. But available in office.

Review 22:Very nice pool. Clean, friendly staff. Location was great.

Review 23:no coffee in room and none avail on site until 7:30 am...ridiculous no pavement in the parking lot no breakfast services of any kind for the kind of money you're charging for these rooms all of the above should have been provided

Review 24:Stayed two nights and there really isn't any house keeping to speak of. Got some extra towels and that was about it. You hear absolutely everything that goes on outside your room...so staying during a big motorcycle rally was a little loud.

Review 25:Location is fantastic. Walking distance to the Cody rodeo and everything is a short drive.

Review 26:The cost of was way too high for this place! It was ok clean, rooms were old and beds were awful! It was a rip off for the money you had to pay to stay there!

Review 27:We paid $172. There were no cups or glasses in the room. The beds were uncomfortable. Coffee was not available until 7:30 am and then in the office. At that price one would think that they could afford small in-room coffee makers and cups!

Review 28:The breakfast was donuts alone - not really breakfast. WiFi cut out a bit

Review 29:Bed was super comfy. Facilities were good. Would have stayed longer if time permit

Review 30:Because it is outside Yellowstone, the price was quite high for the type of facility but we had a good night and they were pet friendly.

Review 31:It was a basic bed for the night and a nice rustic motel but no frills at a premium price.

Review 32:The furnishings were kind of old but clean.

Review 33:The staff were very nice and kids loved the pool and pony rides. It was close to everything....esp rodeo grounds.

Review 34:no hair dryer or personal coffee pot despite high rates to stay there...The slivers of soap did not last and there was no shampoo offered.

Review 35:location and horse rides

Review 36:Bed was very hard. A dirty towel from the previous guest was left in ourbathroom. We liked this hotel least of any we stayed in during our twoweek travels! Ice machine is outside the office. No plastic bag for theice bucket--everyone just serves themselves from the open ice machine.

Review 37:Wall air conditioner did a poor job of keeping the room a comfortable temp.

Review 38:Close to entrance/exit to Yellowstone National Park. Near shopping/groceries/restaurants. Quiet lot. Wifi was excellent. Room was clean and tidy. Could use an update, but it was comfortable.

Review 39:No shampoo or hair dryer supplied. Had to go buy them. Did not bring with as all other motels we have stayed in have had them.

Review 40:Staff very friendly. Allowed to check in early. Close to attractions.

Review 41:Most expensive motel on trip. Fit and finish on trim in motel was very amateurish. Scalded our hands when we turned hot water on. No shampoo or conditioner in room. Television screen was very old and the size of a computer screen. There was a table and 4 chairs for furniture. No dressers. Microwave was on bathroom sink counter and fridge was under counter.

Review 42:It was close to the rodeo, the reason we stayed in Cody. The couple that owned it were great. He checked us in and gave us lots of info, while his wife was giving pony rides to kids behind the motel. The room was very clean and comfortable. I would definitely recommend this place.

Review 43:- Cody is quite far away from the Yellowstone east gate, it would take up to about 2 hrs to get to the fishing bridge from Cody. So be careful if you have limited time around.

Review 44:- The room is clean, and equipped with Microwave and a mini fridge. - Wifi connection is good. - Price is reasonable

Review 45:There was no complimentary shampoo...I never think to pack shampoo. We could only get one TV station. I reserved our room online and thought we were getting one queen and one twin bed, instead one queen and one bunkbed. Not a problem, just surprised.

Review 46:Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 47:If you need a comfortable room at a decent price as you are passing through Cody, this is a good choice. The room was pretty basic but the bed was comfortable, the area was quiet and the room was very dark (which I like for sleeping).

Review 48:That we had such a short visit.

Review 49:We've stayed here for years. Been gone a few, this was our first trip back. Owners are so friendly and nice. Very accommodating.

Review 50:Spoke to the owner after booking on line to be sure not to be placedupstairs as have a disability.Owner assured me they had a handicapaccessible room & would book me in it.Called to say we were arrivinglater then expected & found out evidently he gave the room awaybefore we arrived, not able to use bathtub, so spit bath.Given a tinypurse pack of tissue, pretty cheap. My last trip to stay there, been therewith prior owner, much better then.People jumping around upstairs so notmuch sleep either.Had guaranteed room with credit card too.

Review 51:The location, close on our way to Yellowstone the next day.

Review 52:The accommodations are basic. No phone or coffee maker in the room. Tiny fridge on the floor under a tiny microwave is the "kitchen" facility. Walls are thin. You really hear your neighbors. The way the shower worked was just weird. WiFi was unreliable. The window curtains weren't wide enough to close completely and were safety pinned if you wanted any privacy. Cheap scratchy towels and toilet paper. Should have brought my own. Bad mirror placement makes shaving or putting on makeup very difficult.

Review 53:The location was good. Close to several good restaurants and downtown.

Review 54:Very clean. Spacious room. Welcoming staff. Easy access to Cody, Buffalo Bill West, Old Town, and Yellowstone National Park. Great drive nearby to Castle Rock. Tasty breakfast across the street. Be sure to talk to the owner there.

Review 55:Lack of breakfast, though they recommended a decent place across the street

Review 56:Front office people were very nice and helpful, the room was big and clean.

Review 57:Easy access to original planned site for Cody and the Trail Town that has been reconstructed there using original buildings of the time. Greatest place for breakfast across the street. Comfortable and spacious room.

Review 58:The only negative thing is the gravel parking lot. The stone is so pulverized that it was very dusty when ever a car came & left. New stone or blacktop would be great.

Review 59:We have stayed here three times in the past several years. We like that we can walk across the road to eat breakfast. We like that it is not right in town's congestion.

Review 60:none

Review 61:typical motel on the way to yellowstone , the nearest to east gate - still about 50 miles, to visit yellowstone take 2 nights otherwise - you pay in advance - you will mess around for next nights - 2 days in park if u r fast is enough, i booked 3 nights and left further loosing deposit cash , noyhing to do in Cody

Review 62:This was a great place- great location- great staff- they were super friendly with lots of recommendations for the area- the room was clean quiet and comfortable DEFINETLY recommend!

Review 63:Not a lot of restaurants in the area, best option is to have dinner in West Yellowstone on the way back from the park.

Review 64:Only 25 minutes from Yellowstone entrance Coffee at the lobby

Review 65:Called before visit and was told there would be a microwave in room. There wasn't. Water was hot enough to boil lobsters. No breakfast or coffee maker.

Review 66:Refrigerator in room.

Review 67:Place was really not clean. Used dental floss stuck to the left side of mirror, bed made with sheets inside out and did not fit properly, the sheets needed to been washed in HOT water and bleach(the were grey) and bathroom fan made a loud noise when turned on . The neighbors complained. The rugs needed to be vacuumed and the floors needed to be washed instead of having a towel dragged over it. It would have been nice to have window curtains that fit the windows properly instead of safety pinned together! The owners sit on a gold mine piece of property but do not take care of it.

Review 68:The towels were very poor! A light bulb was missing over the wash basin area. Heating/cooling system was quite loud.

Review 69:Clean & adequate for an overnight stay!

Review 70:Management did not respond to the wifi issue to get it resolved in the 4 days we stayed there which caused me some issues w/ my business. The staff did not always take away ALL used towels and the plastic cups were not replaced. There were no plastic liners for the ice bucket.

Review 71:The towels were just a tad scratchy.

Review 72:We were situated just where we wanted to be - close to the east entrance to Yellowstone. The drive through Shoshone Nat'l Forest was a plus. Big Bear was great - quiet and clean with a friendly staff - what more can you ask for?

Review 73:Bath & bed linens needed to be replaced. All pillows were DEAD and did not have protective covers under the cases. The towels & wash clothes were dirty looking. Bad sewer smell outside. The wood trim, towel & TV holders looked like they were made by grade school kids and none had any wood finish on them. At $100 it was not a bargain.

Review 74:TV was up high. Room was clean.

Review 75:needed to change dead light bulbs no drinking cups no kleenex box thin hard scratchy towels placed in the rear of motel smelled horse dung from the paddock of 4 horses right behind room

Review 76:Location Desk Manager very friendly & upbeat Room was clean

Review 77:We stayed the room next to the office. Water sounds coming from toilet and shower from next door was so noisy that we couldn't sleep at all. Interior was very nice but quality of the stay wasn't.

Review 78:COFFEE POT! We got up way to early to go into the park, missed the morning coffee. Needed a little more storage space.

Review 79:The rooms were very clean. A fridge and microwave were provided. Very nice atmosphere, simple and clean.

Review 80:The Big Bear is a great value, with a wonderful view and clean, comfortable rooms. We stayed in the newly renovated upstairs. The staff was very helpful.

Review 81:I think investing in new towels and pillow cases would be money well spent. Both were in pretty rough shape though they appeared to be clean. They wouldn't keep me from staying here again.

Review 82:We stayed at five different motels around Grand Tetons and Yellowstone this being one of them. This was a good location for heading to the east entrance of Yellowstone. The motel was clean and comfortable and staff friendly. Great place for the money.

Review 83:There was no Wi-Fi, cable down stairs was having reception problem but the one upstairs was fine, but did not complain about it as we was not in the house much. The mattresses was hard for me but if you like firm ones it would be fine.

Review 84:the staff was great, I had came in a day early and they took care of us even though they were booked, they had a townhouse open and gave it to us for the same money. Very much appreciated it. The townhouse was in town, not on property, but they were quick to answer my problem with toilet and the town house was close to a grocery store for quick shopping. I would book again there.

Review 85:Muddy parking lot tracked mud into the room; no vacuuming the next morning took place. Big beetle crawled across my neck while I was trying to get to sleep. Tiny TV. Linens rough and stiff. No coffee maker in the room and awful coffee at the office.

Review 86:Liked the covered walkway along the motel.

Review 87:Upon check-in, I had booked 2 rooms at the same time & we were across the parking lot from each other. Checked in late & found a spider in one bed & a lollipop in the other bed. Only 1st person to shower had hot water all the rest were luke warm.

Review 88:The walls of the room were a little thin, which meant we would occasionally hear noise from the adjoining room. It wasn't terrible, but I'm glad the guys next door weren't partiers. The price seemed a little steep compared to the quality of the hotel, but unfortunately every hotel in the Yellowstone area is expensive.

Review 89:We stayed for two nights. The guy at the front desk was nice and very helpful. He told us we could park our motorcycles up on the porch area in front of our room to get them out of the rain. The room wasn't anything fancy, but it was clean. The room included two beds, nightstand, a table with two chairs, a microwave and a fridge. The hotel is on the west edge of town, quite literally at the foot of the mountains which meant it was easy access to Yellowstone.

Review 90:Objected to incontinence pad under sheet. WiFi did not connect to laptop. Inadequate storage. Had to turn off AC due to excessive noise. No lock on bathroom. Gave soap but not shampoo.

Review 91:Desk staff helpful. Room cleaned daily

Review 92:Dirty, room smelled, beds felt like you were going to fall to the floor, bugs crawling and flying around..carpet was dirty and dingy looking...would not recommend this motel to even my enemy...needs some serious updates !!!!!!

Review 93:nothing

Review 94:Putting the microwave and fridge in bathroom was not good. Couldn't get to sink and mirror with ease.

Review 95:Place was clean and spacious. Benches out front were a plus.

Review 96:Sheets were like the lining of a sofa--rough Pillows were soft and flimsy with the rough cases like the sheets. AC unit was so noisy you couldn't hear the tv No coffee in room No breakfast Dirty Soap was a little tiny piece. No shampoo

Review 97:Mattress was comfortable

Review 98:Too little for the price. We had called ahead to let staff know we'd be getting in near midnight but then had to wait outside for several minutes because the office staff did not hear us.

Review 99:It was clean enough although shabby furnishings

Review 100:Dust because of gravel drive and people don't drive slow around to their room, also when they clean your room they leave the door open and everything gets full of dust. Door handle felt like it was going to fall off it was broke but did keep the door closed. Very limited wall plugs.

Review 101:Beds were comfortable Shower / Bath was nice in a separate room from vanity.

Review 102:Shower liner and curtain was almost tore off and was full of mold and mildew. Front office opened up at 7:30 in the morning!! No shampoo or coffee makers in room, gravel diveways, no clocks in room

Review 103:location was goood

Review 104:facility was too noisy... the pounding on the floor from the people located above was most unwelcome... expensive for what we received.

Review 105:Great location... friendly staff

Review 106:Not kitted out for families. Very little space for toiletries etc as kitchen sink was also bathroom sink. Would have found it too small if we had stayed more than one night

Review 107:On road to Yellowstone. Clean, & staff helpful & friendly

Review 108:No hair dryer, left pizza out on table in room and was covered with ants in the morning, soap was so small could not hardly wash, no shampoo or loation

Review 109:cute room

Review 110:The bed was wrapped in plastic under the sheets. It was too firm and noisy every time you changed position.

Review 111:It was easy to find and had quick highway access. Friendly staff.

Review 112:The staff cooked hamburgers and hotdogs with all the trimmings.FREE! Fed everyone at the motel! It was very very good! We sat out behind the motel and watched a fireworks show! Wonderful people! Great value. I will stay again! It was everything I expected for the price!

Review 113:No telephone, no hair dryer (where so many hotels have dryers it saves us space in the suitcase not to bring one. Way more expensive than Comfort Inn and other comparable places in and around town. I paid $140/night for bare basics. Internet connection kept cutting out and after 10 p.m. both nights I could not get a connection at all. I tried several times. The mini-fridge froze whatever I put into it. Good for water, not for fruit, meat or sandwiches.

Review 114:Clean room, comfortable bed, mini fridge and microwave were nice. Nice staff.

Review 115:Nothing

Review 116:Very special place, really original

Review 117:Only had boiling water for a hot drink via a microwave in the office

Review 118:Close proximity to food, attractions.

Review 119:This was a very nice economical room. Old but certainly fine!

Review 120:We had to have double beds in order to be on the ground floor.

Review 121:Very friendly and very clean!

Review 122:Nice and clean. Very basic.

Review 123:No breakfast

Review 124:Good value for money hostel

Review 125:convenient to exit from Yellowstone in a pleasant area and town

Review 126:No breakfast, just coffee. Barebones facility.

Review 127:Location just outside of Cody from Yelliwstone
