Reviews for Eliza Thompson House

Review 1:Our beautiful room could have had a cleaner bathroom. TV was so difficult to figure out, we couldn't watch it and radio only got one station.

Review 2:Loved the friendliness of the staff. Beautiful room, great location. Weather was damp and cool so not able to fully enjoy but the courtyard is charming.

Review 3:The staff was great... They had great recommendations and got us reservations to restaurants we couldn't get on our own. The service was fantastic

Review 4:The tub/shower did not have any safety measures such as grab bars or tub mat. It was slippery. The furniture arrangement did not allow us to sit in the chairs to watch TV.

Review 5:The staff were wonderfully courteous and helpful. The room was clean. The food was very good and not expected. It was a pleasant experience. The courtyard was our favorite place….so relaxing and beautiful.

Review 6:The attention to detail and the delicious breakfasts and the canapés! The atmosphere during the evening wine and cheese session was extremely friendly and social. We loved it.

Review 7:Room was in the basement and had been a kitchen at one time. Pretty expensive for the comfort and location of this room!

Review 8:Couldn't beat the location! Very pleasant and safe neighborhood. Beautiful and quaint street convenient to great restaurants! B and B offered complementary wine and cheese in the afternoon and desserts in the evening.

Review 9:Nothing

Review 10:Love the staff and the time with other guest over a glass of wine and finger foods Love the garden and water feature Breakfast was great and staff was the best

Review 11:Coffee and tea in the morning was not the best. However, there were multiple places within a short walk to get our morning drink, so we looked at it as an opportunity to visit/see different coffee shops.

Review 12:The staff were awesome! The location was perfect. Loved the company in the parlor for awesome appetizers, wine and desserts.

Review 13:Stayed in main house in one of the luxury king rooms. Very romantic and quiet. King size bed was sooo comfortable! Dessert was amazing, do not miss it. Bathroom was narrow and basic/functional.

Review 14:Poor breakfast, very grubby and dirty in many areas. Tired and operating on the reputation of being one of the best streets in town

Review 15:Location and front desk staff. Nice touch with the evening complimentary wine and cheese

Review 16:Nothing to do with the hotel, but outside dining closes early in Savannah, and it's a shame.

Review 17:Great location, feels very historic and old, really close to everything and a knowledgeable staff with lots of recommendations. I recommend taking the tour they offer - it's a great quick way to know Savannah fast. Will recommend to my friends

Review 18:THE FOOD AT BREAKFAST WAS POORLY PREPARED, POORLY PRESENTED, AND NOT WHAT WE EXPECTED FOR THE PRICE AND ADVERTISEMENT. THERE WAS ONLY ONE CHOICE OF MUFFINS, THE SAME EVERY DAY AND TWO MORNINGS THERE WAS NONE....THE COURTYARD WAS PRETTY, BUT NO ATTENTION WAS PAID TO MAKING THE TABLES, ETC. ATTRACTIVE.WE HAVE HAD BETTER BREAKFASTS AT ANY CHAIN HOTEL AND MUCH, MUCH BETTER AT B&B'S. THE FOOD SERVED WITH THE WINE IN THE EVENING WAS GOOD ONE NIGHT AND SPARSE THE NEXT. WE NOTICED THAT THE FOOD ON WEEKENDS WAS MUCH NICER AND MORE CHOICES. APPARENTLY YOU CATER TO THE WEEKEND BUSINESS. THE WALKWAYS , COURTYARD, ETC. NEEDED A GOOD CLEANING. WE WERE OVERALL DISAPPOINTED COMPARED TO OTHER PLACES WE HAVE STAYED.

Review 19:IT WAS A CONVENIENT LOCATION AND KELLY AND KEVIN WERE PLEASANT, HELPFUL AND PROFESSIONAL

Review 20:Very nice and located on very historic and beautiful Jones street. Within walking distance historic downtown. Rooms great and enjoyed the evening get together and the morning breakfast.

Review 21:Parking was tough. Street, metered parking only, they street clean on weekends and you can only use 1 side.

Review 22:Great staff, good breakfast, great location!

Review 23:Didn't like the surprise price ! Room was over 319.00 plus tax etc . Very misleading ! Initially I was in the 200-250 range then told rooms going fast ! Third night staff gave a realistic price . Felt abit swindled by Booking . Com :(

Review 24:The location , staff very helpful and friendly especially Kevin ! Loved the atmosphere.

Review 25:Unbelievably poor value for money. Room was basic and a little shabby. The whole place was grubby - particularly the courtyard. Massive disappointment - worst place we have stayed in Savannah - and the most expensive.

Review 26:Location. Service was OK.

Review 27:It was a little cool one morning for breakfast outside in early October. I can't imagine being comfortable in November.

Review 28:Wonderful location. Kelly, the afternoon and evening hostess, was extremely knowledgeable and helped us find the best dining spots and good activities.

Review 29:Loved every thing!!! The staff is amazing!!! So friendly and accommodating. The hotel is beautiful with a great location. We will definitely be returning. :)

Review 30:The breakfast isn't up to the standards of the property, in my opinion. Two out of our four mornings, we went elsewhere for breakfast. The breakfast area isn't too comfortable and the food isn't very good, especially considering the quality of everything else at The Eliza Thompson House.

Review 31:Remarkable staff, all of them. Attending the wine and hors d'oeuvre time daily as well as coffee and dessert time in the parlour and meeting other guests. Lots of great chats, usually stayed there longer than intended!

Review 32:I love the room furnishings, decor, hotel location, breakfast, wine & appetizers, and dessert and coffee. This was my second stay here. I just love feeling pampered and surrounded in history.

Review 33:The only one complain we would have was our bed frame. It made a lot of noise and wobbled. Other than that, very satisfied with out choice and are definitely looking forward to returning.

Review 34:The staff was great. They were very accommodating and polite, the rooms and command areas were clean and neat. We loved spending time in the courtyard area at night, it was very peaceful.

Review 35:Terrific location, and very helpful, gracious staff. I also recommend staying in one of the luxury rooms in the main house to get a real taste of the historic period.

Review 36:This is more of an inn that a B&B but they do have a wine and cheese hour, a dessert hour and breakfast. The breakfast is buffet since there are many rooms in the Inn. Our room wasn't in the main building but was connected. A delightful outdoor sitting area. Great location, one block from Mrs. Wilkes. One local told us that Jones St. is the prettiest street in Savannnnah.

Review 37:I arrived late in the evening, and the concierge was waiting on the front steps for me. She gave me a very warm, Southern welcome and a glass of wine to enjoy during our quick tour of the beautiful property.

Review 38:The greeting they provided was so warm and welcoming. The place was charming, clean and comfortable. The breakfast, desserts, wine and other compliments were all wonderful. We would come back. Great hospitality.

Review 39:Everyone was very friendly and accommodating, especially Kevin! They even let us checkout 30 mins late so one of the group could go to church. We would definitely stay there again when visiting Savannah.

Review 40:I had expected more from breakfast...it was good, but i wouldve expected even more for a bnb. Savannah in general is pricey considering that facilities in bnbs are not that different from other hotels, but you get a lovely environment and beautifully furnished room in return.

Review 41:Location perfect, walking distance from river side and forsyth park. Friendly reception, lovely old room and beautiful courtyard.

Review 42:Staff was amazing, very accommodating. Kelly was awesome, made several perfect recommendations for dining, etc. Location was perfect, everything in walking distance. Very clean, great wine reception.

Review 43:There was nothing we didn't like!

Review 44:The staff, especially Kelly, was awesome. It was quiet, clean, and they made us feel like we were important. The breakfast was great. I enjoyed the meet & greets with the other travelers. I can't wait to go back!

Review 45:The breakfast should include more fresh fruit and a cappuccino machine

Review 46:The history and overall feeling of the beautiful building. The location was perfect.

Review 47:Our bed squeaked and the breakfast was nothing special. Breakfast was like from other hotels (Residence Inn) breakfast. Our expectation was little more homemade and with personal touch.

Review 48:Location was great, staffs were nice, and the place was clean. We liked the wine and cheese hour and the court yard was very nice.

Review 49:The hot water in the shower wasn't steady because of the age of the house. We had a bit of a ghost experience in room 132.

Review 50:The staff went above and beyond

Review 51:He a small issue with receiving a strong signal from the wifi, however we were not staying in the main house and found a simple solution.

Review 52:Everything was fantastic from the time we checked in until the time we left. The staff and service was excellent and catered to our every wish. The room was extremely comfortable and peaceful. We enjoyed meeting the other guests at the cocktail and dessert hours. Overall, an excellent place to stay and we will be back.

Review 53:Bathroom floor was not as clean as I'd like and the shower curtain liner had some mold at the top. Housekeeping forgot to replace towels one day.

Review 54:The charm of the inn, the location, and the wonderful breakfasts were highlights. Staff were very helpful.

Review 55:Outstanding service -- cheerful, competent, special touches like excellent wine hour and home made desserts every evening. Wonderful location in the heart of the historic district on a street appropriately singled out as especially beautiful by our city tour operator as of of Savannah's most beautiful. Handsome period interiors, and a beautiful open interior courtyard where breakfast was served.. Yet building wide wifi.

Review 56:Breakfast was a bit poor in my opinion…but I'm also a chef, so I have bigger expectations maybe...

Review 57:Lets say that the only thing I didn't care much about was breakfast. The rest is outstanding! You won't regret booking this property. You'll love every minute of your stay.

Review 58:The quality of food at breakfast was mediocre.

Review 59:We thoroughly enjoyed the location, the friendliness of the staff, the courtyard and our accommodations.

Review 60:We received a really warm welcome from Kelly and Brandon. Our rooms were delightful overlooking the courtyard. The complementary evening hor d'ouevres and deserts were a bonus and much enjoyed. Kelly was also very helpful in suggesting restaurants and making reserverations for us. The hotel is perfectly situated for strolling around town. We would particularly like to thank Del for his understanding and flexibitility in allowing us to check out late due to one of our party having to go to the Emergency Room early on the day of our departure - it was much appreciated. We would definitely choose this hotel if we visit Savannah again.

Review 61:Not that I didn't like anything, the bathroom was a little tight.

Review 62:First time stayig at a B&B and the staff at the Eliza Thompson House were just outstanding, very friendly and helpful. After a long day of walking around site seeing it was quite nice to relax in the evening with coffee and dessert in the parlor and talking about the day with other folks.

Review 63:I'm sorry I couldn't stay longer.

Review 64:This place is gorgeous. The location is very good and can walk to most attractions. Staff is so friendly and breakfast is good, especially the biscuits. I loved this place and hope to stay again.

Review 65:Kelly and the whole team were great. Loved the Patio area, so peaceful and relaxing. Food selection was terrific, and having the Wine & Canapé social each evening was perfect.

Review 66:The room had so much charm. The location was perfect and the staff was extremely friendly, accommodating, welcoming and helpful. We loved the breakfasts, the wine social with wonderful appetizers, and then the deserts and coffee.

Review 67:The comfort like being at home. The friendly staff the beautiful rooms and the comfortable bed. I love the street and your location lol can you tell I had a great stay?

Review 68:Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Excellent breakfast. Meeting other guests at the evening wine/cheese or later dessert get togethers. Beautiful courtyard.

Review 69:Lovely boutique hotel in the middle of the historic district. We walked everywhere. The breakfast is huge and delicious and never runs out. Wine in the evening with other guests was great. We had fun comparing notes on the Home and Garden Tour. Staff was so helpful. Recommended local restaurants and managed to get us into Maxwells on a very crowded Saturday night.

Review 70:The breakfast was not really anything special; I have had amazing meals at other B&Bs that surpassed this. I might suggest more fresh fruit, preserves/jam *not* in plastic one-serving containers, and honey for the biscuits...

Review 71:The location of this delightful property was fabulous; so close to everything in Old Savannah. Upon my 5:30 arrival, I was informed of wine, cheese, crackers and finger sandwiches in the parlor... and of course, dessert at 8:30 as well. What a treat!

Review 72:Parking can be difficult when you return if you want to drive to other spots during the day.

Review 73:Perfect location on beautiful street in historic district, and staff is super helpful and friendly.

Review 74:Front desk staff on two occasions wasn't as helpful as they really should have been.

Review 75:Breakfast is terrific and the rooms are quaint and well kept. Location is great.

Review 76:We were able to walk around the beautiful and very interesting Savannah historic district. This B & B staff was very friendly and provided a tasty breakfast and hors d'oeuvres and drinks later in the day for an opportunity to chat with other guests. We will definitely return to this place and recommended it to our friends.

Review 77:the staff was friendly and efficient. Breakfast was tasty served around a courtyard fountain. A quiet location on a pretty street but walkable to all the sites.

Review 78:When one person moves, the whole bed shakes. I finally slept on the floor.

Review 79:Staff superb (Brandon, Millie, Tikka, Erin, and lovely cooks), food, beauty of the building and it's location.

Review 80:Parking on the street if not using the valet option. Watch out for sweeping zones, especially on weekends. Rooms in the back (not main building) lower floor might not offer privacy as they are accessed through the patio area.

Review 81:Great location at historic Jones street. Walking distance to any historic location. Great value among Bed and Breakfast in the area. Recommend to book rooms in the main building, especially (little bit pricier but worth it)

Review 82:Fountained courtyard and wonderful attention to details--such as the wine/cheese hour, coffee/dessert hour, and fabulous breakfast! Definitely our favorite after several visits.

Review 83:WiFi did not work in our room, we were the furthest from the front desk, the plumbing was quite loud, could hear other people very loudly flushing the toilet, not sure what that was about, it sounded as though our toilet kept flushing.

Review 84:Nice B&B, staff was friendly. Breakfast was average, nothing special. Evening Desserts were great! Bed was comfy! Room was very clean.

Review 85:hot water for tea or coffee available in room would be nice

Review 86:never moved my car manicure, food, ghost tour, blue tour, feeling of safety, b and b food very good, privacy or social interaction choices.

Review 87:No pimento cheese sandwiches. We had to ask for extra toilet tissue and we did not get fresh soap on our second days stay.

Review 88:The lemon poppy seed cake and coffee in the late evening. I likes the evening wine events even though the room got hot and stuffy when filled to capacity. The staff was very friendly.

Review 89:Now that I've been there, next time I'd like to stay in the "old" house, and not the courtyard addition (even though it was perfectly fine.)

Review 90:Gorgeous house, extremely helpful and professional staff, great location.

Review 91:Room 112 was fairly dark...

Review 92:Ms Virginia did an awesome breakfast; eggs with salsa/cheese & next day with scallions were tasty & warm. Biscuits were the best! Staff were efficient & helpful. Ladies at front desk were friendly, considerate & helpful as well. Enjoyable visit...

Review 93:Nothing - everything was very good.

Review 94:Great idea - cheese & wine served in the early evening, dessert served late evening in drawing room gave fellow guests chance to mingle and swap recommendations for restaurants and sightseeing. This was included in the price as was breakfast. Staff were extremely helpful especially Madison & Brandon.

Review 95:Be aware that there are 3 stories to this B&B. Staff will help you with your bags, but you should consider that you will probably need to climb a lot of stairs most days.

Review 96:Breakfast was very good and everyday the offerings were a little different. Wine and appetizers in the evening and coffee and dessert at night were a wonderful touch.

Review 97:The staff was excellent. The evening wine and cheese was great means of socializing with other guest. The location was great. You can walk to most sites and restaurants.

Review 98:Would have really liked a small togo breakfast snack as we had to leavebefore the breakfast.

Review 99:Personal attention of staff, evening cocktail hours with otherguests, location.

Review 100:Small bathroom, but very clean.

Review 101:James street is beautiful. The staff was vey courteous and helpful. The breakfasts had everything I wanted, and cocktail hour with hors d'oeuvres hit the spot. Kudos for the andes mints and turn down service. The receptionist was nice enough to give me an extra bottle of water for the long car ride back from Savannah.

Review 102:The Eliza Thompson House is the perfect place to stay when visiting Savannah. It is located in the heart of the historic district. It is absolutely charming. From wine and cheese in the parlor in the evening, to dessert late at night, to breakfast in the beautiful courtyard everything was lovely and delicious. The rooms are exceptionally comfortable. It's a perfect place to stay.

Review 103:Nothing.

Review 104:Room style and decor is just as shown in on-line photos; in very good condition and well maintained. Beautiful and comfortable. The room was clean upon arrival and wonderfully cleaned/refreshed every day. The bathroom was surprisingly big. Air conditioning worked great. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The location couldn't be better as far as I am concerned. Jones Street is the most beautiful in Savannah and we were within easy walking distance of everything. We liked Savannah so much we decided to stay an extra night. Our room was booked so we had to move to another hotel. We stayed at a hotel near the River. While that location was nice, I truly believe that we had a much richer experience on Jones Street. I will definitely stay at the Eliza Thompson House when I travel back to Savannah.

Review 105:We expected a bath tub but our room only had a shower, it was a nice shower though. The lighting by the second bed was poor.

Review 106:The staff was very helpful making reservations and suggestions for us. Loved the happy hour and desserts. Meeting other travelers was fun and enlightening.

Review 107:Cannot think of anything!

Review 108:All your staff were extremely helpful and acccommodating, even when it was outside their actual assigned duties! My husband LOVED Virginia's cooking at breakfast. We both enjoyed the wine and dessert offerings, along with conversation!

Review 109:Nothing comes to mind!

Review 110:It's location was perfect -- near several great restaurants and many historical houses. Snacks in the early evening and coffee and dessert before bed were great -- a nice way to meet the others staying in the House

Review 111:Great location and a wonderful staff. I felt like we got a lot for our money and will stay here again

Review 112:Expensive

Review 113:Everything! Great hosts!

Review 114:Price was little high but worth it

Review 115:Staff was very friendly

Review 116:Historic facility very service oriented and welcoming staff

Review 117:Room is too small and well overpriced even during the holiday.

Review 118:Location is perfect Staff is good

Review 119:Pillows

Review 120:Location

Review 121:Location allowed us to park the car and walk everywhere we wanted in the historic district.

Review 122:Friendly, helpful staff. Clean rooms. Great Location.
