Reviews for The Gastonian

Review 1:We didnt like eating in the kitchen, far too warm, even in January! Our clothes smelled of cooking afterwards too! The large dining table was reserved for a large family group. However, the other table(s) could have been placed in the dining room, with a bit of smart planning and temporary moving of other unnecessary items of furniture.

Review 2:The room was exceptionally quiet, despite being street level. It was very spacious and comfortable as well as cosy, mainly because of the large gas/log fire place, which we loved lighting first thing and before settling down to sleep. Wonderful!

Review 3:Nothing, the room, location and staff were all great!

Review 4:The Inn is truly lovely, we were both impressed the second we walked through the door. We stayed in the Julia Scarborough room which was very romantic. The working fireplace was a nice touch, not to mention the huge tub with jets for a relaxing soak. The inn is in a nice part of town near Forsyth Park and walking distance to the river. The staff was so sweet and accomodating, I can't speak highly enough of this BnB!

Review 5:Antiquated plumbing; cleanliness so-so

Review 6:The staff is fabulous. The anyiques are gorgeous and we loved our room, in the garden, number 107. You walk out directly onto a small secret garden and you have your private entrance. It's a squeaky king size but full of charm and very large, room size. Plumbing is antiquated and there's no place in the tub/shower to put shampoo or soap. However, this the bedt place we've stayed in in a long time: the staff is key! Yummy breakfast from Ron and Mario. Delightful munchies in the afternoon and good desserts at night. Can't go wrong.

Review 7:Rooms on ground floor are dark amd cant open curtains due to lack of privacy. Breakfast room needs better ventilarion as food smell is impossible to get out of clothes.

Review 8:Friendly staff. Beautiful house. Great atmosphere. Great location. And working fireplaces in rooms!

Review 9:Enjoyed the experience of staying in a renovated mansion that reflected the pride of the staff and people of Savannah. Staff was attentive, highly engaged throughout our stay.

Review 10:Loved all of it!!!

Review 11:Loved the ambiance and staff very helpful and friendly....felt pampered!!! Food was excellent and loved the happy hour and the evening dessert and cordials.

Review 12:The bathroom was terrible. We only had a shower and wasn't told when booked there would only be a shower. The showers shower/pressure was awful. The wall paper was old and dirty and mold under the sink cabinet. The bedroom was very dusty, especially the floors.

Review 13:The history of the house. The decor.

Review 14:Tray service for breakfast left a lot to be desired. Small coffee carafe, no jelly for toast, poor assortment of muffins/danishes. Not at all as stated on the order form.

Review 15:The staff was outstanding.

Review 16:The only critique I can offer is if you aren't used to beds with a side panel from headboard to footboard, then maybe make sure you request a room without this feature. It was a beautiful bed, but I hit my knee a lot getting in and out of the bed.

Review 17:The Gastonian was a beautiful place with friendly staff and delicious food. The room was outstanding.

Review 18:The atmosphere of the whole building and in particular of the room is simply great! Very elegant and stylish. All very clean and tidy. Staff is exceptionally friendly. The best hotel of my Deep South tour!

Review 19:Wonderful innkeepers & staff. OK do I got up late... they gave me a wonderful breakfast anyway. The kitchen staff was awesome! The desk staff were incredibly helpful and did everything with a smile-- thank you !

Review 20:Far too costly. I could have stayed in a luxury hotel for a lot less and with cleaner, better facilities.

Review 21:Location was good but that is all that was good.

Review 22:the 2 receptionists were less than friendly and gracious. Walter and kitchen staff VERY accommodating. Not allowing guests to print was disconcerting. couldn't print our tickets or coupons. 10 rooms were unoccupied and we weren't given a free upgrade

Review 23:Amenities were above average and expectations. location was good...walking distance to everything

Review 24:Noise of running water when bathrooms in upper rooms used -- but come on: it's an old historic property. Any minor noises are trivial: you have to 'get' the whole historic house thing -- it's not going to be completely modern, but it is completely lovely.

Review 25:The house itself; the location; the staff; my fellow guests; the great breakfasts and all the snacks and treats. They offered tasty and variable choices for breakfast along with standard items. I loved eating in the kitchen -- best show in town! My room was large, very comfortable, spotless, and also featured a balcony that was delightful at all hours. Having a knowledgable, gracious concierge on-site 24/7 was a real plus for local information and advice.

Review 26:Broken tiles in bathroom, bathroom in need of upgrade. The idea of combining antiques with modern standards and expectations hasn't really worked.

Review 27:Large room, excellent wi-fi

Review 28:For the amount of money would have thought it would have been cleaner (drain in tub had mold?, vent in floor of living room was loaded with dust, stair carpets were dirty, bedskirt had stains on it) and would have liked breakfast to be served in the dining room not the working kitchen (the sink was badly stained)

Review 29:The gardens could be better maintained. It was a shame as everything was perfect. Breakfast could be better timed as when we arrived there where no tables available.

Review 30:The room and bathroom were really nice. The location was within easy walking of the main attractions

Review 31:The staff services were incredible and friendly and very attentive. The little things like complimentary wine in the early evening and cordials later on as well as a full breakfast of just about everything was were amazing touches. Warm and endearing and loved the location...perfect Savannah getaway!

Review 32:We loved the entire visit to the Gastonian! The staff were all friendly, polite, and accommodating. We were celebrating our 40th anniversary and The Gastonian was the perfect place for it.

Review 33:Beautiful room, wonderful decor, personal service by very attentive staff, excellent breakfast and evening treats. One of the best experiences we ever had in a B&B! Thank you so much making our anniversary in Savannah so special!

Review 34:It was kind of bitter sweet. When we arrived, they booked us in the Caracalla Suite accidentally for our first night, and I'm so glad they did. That room was amazing! But then they came and told us the next morning that they put us in the wrong room and moved us to the Andrew Bryan room which wasn't a bad trade. Not as good as the Caracalla Suite, but still really really nice. In response to the mix up, we got $169 off our bill and a free bottle of wine. So we didn't complain too much.

Review 35:Up until our stay I've never been to Savannah, GA. Staying at the Gastonian in the most beautiful part of the southern end of the historical district was the best way to truly experience the best Savannah had to offer. From the wonderful staff, breakfast, beautiful rooms, and amazing historical location the Gastonian by far was one of the best places I've ever visited.

Review 36:Can't think of anything.

Review 37:Courteous and helpful staff and it was such a pleasure staying in a place that was built in 1868 and being so close to Forsyth Park.

Review 38:wish there was a coffee maker, small refrigerator and microwave.

Review 39:Great food, clean and wonderful rooms and carriage house. Love the cooks in the kitchen. They always entertain us.

Review 40:Our first time in Savannah and celebrated our 20th anniversary. The staff, accomodations, food, and hospitality were beyond wonderful. We felt like we were staying with old and fabulous friends!

Review 41:Breakfast started at 8am which is fine for tourists but a little late for business travellers - 7am would be better

Review 42:The welcome was warm, and service excellent. My room was amazing - an out-house all to myself with a balcony! The main building was built in around 1860 - and extremely well presented. I highly recommend the Gastonian.

Review 43:I don't think there is anything they can improve. If I had to suggest something it would be they have more luxurious towels.

Review 44:From the time you drive up to the Gastonian you're happy you made the choice to stay there. It's a beautiful home on a beautiful street. When you walk through the double glass doors you're greeted by the Concierge who immediately welcomes you and offers you a cold beverage. The room was gorgeous as was the living and dining rooms. They cook your breakfast to your specification in the morning. You can dine in the kitchen and watch the chef. It's super cozy and you'll feel like you're family. In the afternoon they have wonderful appetizers and wine and late night they have homemade desserts, coffee, port and sherry. It was everything I wanted in a B&B and more! We saw a few other B&B's but the Gastonian's "vibe" just makes it a must place to stay!

Review 45:Not as clean as I'd like to see. Our toilet was on 1 side of our bed and the sink and shower were on the other. Hardwood floors were ridiculously slippery.

Review 46:Location was awesome

Review 47:kitchen is in the breakfast room and fills the hotel with smoke and heavy smell. The room below suffers considerably.

Review 48:great location, and very nice this-is-not-a-hotel-but-a-house atmosphere.

Review 49:Outside of both buildings needs some added attention in cleaning up the clutter as to the gardens, lighting at night and general spruce up without modification of the age or special historical values.

Review 50:The history was great. The staff were very courteous and very fast on any and all request. The food was excellent that was provided but maybe could cut cost if they did a breakfast buffet that was exclusively southern. A nice buffet can be reduced, extended or modified dependent on the number of guest. However, one of the general items is to offer enough that you get a consensus of what the "market" bears including hot, cold and coffee, juices and other. The evening desert was a good touch and that could be extended some but reducing the wine but keeping with the sherry. Maybe adding southern Apple Ciders and more cream pies or longer lasting desert pickups.

Review 51:Warm, knowlegeable staff. Customer service permeates everything they do. Great old home in an ideal location. Food was lovely. Met great people as fellow guests each day. Look forward to going back soon!

Review 52:The Gastonian is on the edge of the historic district, but this suited us as we had a car. Parking was available for free. Our room was very comfortable and quite spacious. We loved the wine and hors d'oeuvres which were provided in the beautiful sitting room downstairs every evening. This was a wonderful way to meet fellow travellers! Really enjoyed breakfast too.

Review 53:Unable to connect to WiFi Unable to sit in swings due to misquitos

Review 54:Great location, staff very helpful, food was wonderful, especially the evening desserts.

Review 55:Had some problems with the attitude of one of the concierge on a particular problem. Rest of staff excellent. Inn Keeper very apologetic. But as a result my daughter cancelled her plans to use this Inn the weekend of her wedding. Not sure we would recommend. We have been to others that were just as nice. Food fair to good.

Review 56:There were two roaches in our room, and hair in the shower
