Reviews for The Marshall House
Review 1:Our room's only window was a view of the parking garage, and we paid for a superior room, which I don't see how that adds up. We also didn't get a bath tub, which I also would have expected for a superior room. The room was not sound proof at all, you could hear everything down the hall and the people walking upstairs. All in all, a great hotel, but if I went again, I would definitely not pay the extra money for a "superior" room.
Review 2:Our room was pretty isolated from the rest of the hotel, which was really nice. The hotel is historic and beautiful, and you can't beat the location. The breakfast was awesome, and the bar and restaurant adjunct to the hotel were fantastic. The room was comfy; the bed was soft and the decor was cute.
Review 3:Parking situation could be explained a bit more with options presented at time of booking.
Review 4:The location was wonderful! All staff we encountered were lively and helpful.
Review 5:Muffins were close to stale when not replenished & displayed for the third consecutive days.
Review 6:We found the staff (Jasmine B) knowlgeable, friendly & quick to respond to any request. Housekeeping was excellent & accessability to shopping was ideal. Well within walking distance for food & historic attractions.
Review 7:The staff was entirely friendly and helpful. We felt as though we were being treated like family. They were knowledgeable about what to see and where to eat. Every recommendation from the front desk staff or concierge was spot on!
Review 8:The room was very comfortable, and I especially enjoyed the claw-foot bathtub. Location excellent, walking distance to everywhere. (right in the Historic District) and the staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast very good, though coffee weak. It would have been nice to have an electric kettle in the room, to make tea!
Review 9:Staff was super friendly and the room was nice if a little small, but the location is the real reason to stay here. We parked our car and didn't see it again until we left. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go and it was so nice to never have to drive while we were in Savannah.
Review 10:First off the staff was amazing. My 12 year old son and I asked 'to be so scared we pee our pants'. They delivered. We were put in room 414 which we had already read reviews on. At about 3:30 I was laying on my left side facing the desk and window when I felt a hand plain as day grab my right shoulder and pull the covers off. I couldn't scream or move I opened my eyes and the covers fell back down. I don't believe in ghosts or spirits but the feeling was indescribable. I laid there shaking for 2 hours til my son woke up. Once in a lifetime experience definitely.
Review 11:WE PARKED OUR CAR AND DID NOT USE IT AGAIN TILL WE LEFT FOR HOME. EVERYTHING IS WALKING DISTANCE. THE HOTEL STAFF WERE EXCEPTIONAL. WHAT ANSWERS THEY DID'NT HAVE WERE RESEARCHED IMMEDIATELY FOR US. THE FRIENDLYNESS OF THE STAFF WAS BEYOND EXCELLENT. THIS IS MY 2ND TIME THERE AND IT WILL NOT BE MY LAST. LOVE SAVANNAH.
Review 12:Parking was a bit on the expensive side (but, I guess, in line with the city-center norm).
Review 13:Everything was great. Perfect position to walk around the historic center. Nice staff. Good breakfast and cheese-and-wine aperitivo.
Review 14:Same Wine ,cheese, grapes each evening ....needs variety. Breakfast needs fresh fruits (strawberries blueberries) not the too sweet fruit salad. How about your tasty Southern grits, your great ham. Take away those huge flour filled muffins.
Review 15:Very comfortable mattress, great staff, central location
Review 16:Enjoyed a city history presentation at the wine and cheese. The room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was good and presented in a lovely atrium..
Review 17:I felt as though the staff could have been a bit friendlier. The woman checking us out wasn't very polite. The bed was a little hard to sleep on- not quite the comfort you expect from a B&B. We were also expecting a little more than a continental style breakfast.
Review 18:We loved the lobby. The Christmas decorations were beautiful. The location was also amazing- right in the heart of downtown. It was very convenient for our reservations and planning our day.
Review 19:High parking fee. After paying for higher priced room I thought that 25 dollars a day to park was too much.
Review 20:Staff was great, excellent breakfast, great atmosphere, close to everything in town.
Review 21:Not a bad experience but perhaps a suggestion; we have a small cat that is all that we have left in our family. She is very mature and really does not like it when we are away for an extended period. Like your other B&B locations, we would be even more appreciative of the great value if she could enjoy the trip with us to Savannah!!
Review 22:Great staff, service was fantastic, our rooms were super, and everything was located in a perfect place in Savannah for us. While some may suggest the stay is a little pricey, I would suggest that you get an absolutely great value for the money!!
Review 23:Our room was tiny. The floors were uneven which made my wife nauseous. Not a good value for the money at all.
Review 24:A very handsome lobby. Wine and cheese every afternoon. The staff was very courteous and helpful. Also, a charming breakfast room, although a better variety of food would have been more appealing.
Review 25:A beautiful hotel in the heart of Savannah. Convenient walking distance to shops, restaurants and the river as well as the historic district. Very friendly staff.
Review 26:Quite noisy--hear everything above, below and in the hall--had to wear earplugs.
Review 27:The quaintness of the place in general especially the breakfast room; the violin player in the library in the evening. Also, it was a convenient place to walk almost anywhere you needed to go.
Review 28:Truly charming historic old hotel, super comfortable rooms with lovely linens and amenities. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was awesome in a lovely garden room. Wine and cheese hour was an added bonus. Location superb for visiting Savannah- walking distance to everything.
Review 29:We LOVED 45 Bistro and how it's connected but our group would have liked to have mimosa's and drinks before 5/6 in the evening.
Review 30:The staff was part of the reason why we will be back again. Their hospitality was unlike any other place we have stayed. Loved being greeted by them every morning before the delicious breakfast. We stayed for the history and hauntings but got much more than we asked from the staff, design and coziness.
Review 31:I was hoping to sleep in and have a leisurely morning but the house is old and sound carries. The cleaning staff kept waking me up by cleaning nearby rooms, talking outside the rooms, etc. Needless to say, I didn't get the experience I was hoping for.
Review 32:the staff did a lot to try to make up for my lack of sleep due to noise made by the cleaning staff early in the morning.
Review 33:N/A
Review 34:All of the staff were extremely friendly and only too willing to help whether it was to answer questions on the best places to dine or to fetch our car. Well done Marshall House we will look forward to a return visit.
Review 35:The free breakfast could have been punched up a little, but it got us started for the day and saved our appetites for trying some of the great restaurants in Savannah.
Review 36:For exploring Savannah by foot, The Marshall House is in the perfect location. The staff is friendly, the rooms are clean, and the the building has historic charm. We didn't try the restaurant but the bartenders were great.
Review 37:Noisy air con, needed as very hot and humid but did wake us up
Review 38:The balcony and rocking chairs Breakfast excellent Staff very helpful Loved the room special touches Loved Bistro 45 next door
Review 39:I was looking for a Bed and Breakfast. The Marshall House is basically an overpriced hotel that happen to be an old building. Nothing is personal, not even breakfast.
Review 40:Lots of homeless people in the middle of the city, and the shower head leaked all night. We couldn't make it stop no matter what we did.
Review 41:The hotel was beautiful! And I loved that it was within walking distance of everything.
Review 42:The bed was hard and uncomfortable. There was a loud delivery right outside our room at 7am Monday morning that woke us up and lasted for almost an hour.
Review 43:We loved the staff and the experience. Loved the balcony to sit out on and watch folks walk by.
Review 44:Nothing.
Review 45:What is there NOT to like at The Marshall House. The staff were great - very friendly and helpful. Wine and cheese in the evening was very pleasant. Lovely decorated rooms with exceptionally comfortable beds. Spotlessly clean bathrooms with nice robes and linen. Great selection at breakfast.
Review 46:As with many older properties, soundproofing is not quite as good as some newer facilities.
Review 47:Classy decor fits with the sense of the adjacent historic district. Friendly staff that clearly takes pride in their work and quality of the hotel
Review 48:For the price ($279/night including taxes; and that was supposedly a discounted price) we would have expected more amenities (starting with better pillows).
Review 49:Great location for on-foot exploring of historic district. Concierge was great.
Review 50:Rooms next to front of building do get street noise
Review 51:Friendly staff, helpful recommendations, clean hotel, comfortable bed, great location walking distance to everthing
Review 52:We loved the historic nature of the hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast offering was varied and the wine and cheese hour was a nice touch.
Review 53:Rooms cramped and bathroom small (downside of staying in historic building). Breakfast choices and taste could be much better - not good value for the price paid for room-over $300/ night. Ok if you value history over value for money.
Review 54:Lovely, helpful staff; charming building; relaxing bar. Beds comfortable.
Review 55:None. Although the room was pricey for the size.
Review 56:Location, easy walking distance to most sights, cordial staff, great breakfast, nice room & comfortable bed.
Review 57:I wish we had been told about the construction going on around the hotel. They were re-building a parking garage right in front of the hotel, which was also our view.
Review 58:The bell staff were very kind and courteous, and the hotel as a whole was beautiful. Our room was very clean, and the amenities were nice.
Review 59:The staff was excellent. Diedre was especially helpful. We didn't get the wake up call, spoke to someone late the night before, but your staff made up for that by bringing us bkfast and a late checkout. Very nice place.
Review 60:Parking? Slim pickings on complaints. The parking garage was a block.5 away or so.
Review 61:The location was excellent. The price was excellent. Booking.com gets a great deal on this place. So many good restaurants within walking distance. The hotel itself is absolutely gorgeous and the rooms are very cozy and warm. We went on a rainy day and had the most perfect day sitting in the room and drinking! Also, on most nights, they serve FREE WINE AND CHEESE. Its a great time to mix with other hotel guests. Me and my fiance read books and ate cheese and drank a ton of wine. It was amazing.
Review 62:Pricey. I booked through booking.com and got a better rate for Thurs night but didn't realize the second night would be over $100 more bc it was a Friday (weekend rate). Also, the bathroom was very small and had only a shower (no tub), even though I had a suite room.
Review 63:Great location. Breakfast was good and convenient. WiFi was easy to access and worked well. Overall a nice place to stay if you're looking for a downtown location and don't mind paying for the historical value of a hotel.
Review 64:How friendly and professional the staff was. The breakfast is awesome with juast the right amount of choices. Wine and cheese a plus each evening. True southern hospitality!!
Review 65:Bernard greeted us with a lovely big smile & took care of our luggage & our car. We were made to feel welcome straight away. Deidera & Derek efficiently, with no fuss sorted out a room change & thrilled with the room. Location of the hotel perfect for exploring. And the wine & cheese early evening was a great way to meet fellow guests.
Review 66:None
Review 67:Excellent location and the hotel has lots of character. The front of house staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was superb and the complimentary evening cheese and wine was an unexpected bonus. Would thoroughly recommend Marshall House.
Review 68:Room was a bit small (to be expected in a place like this; and the full length mirror was awkwardly located.
Review 69:The hotel was gorgeous and located very close to everything in the center city. The staff was very friendly, the place was clean and the breakfast was very tasty.
Review 70:I paid a total of a bit over £200 and was a bit disappointed in my bathroom, the shower had limescale on it and just had a standard small showerhead. Also found a few hairs in there. I would definitely stay again, I did not mention this to the staff as I didnt find it a big deal.
Review 71:Breakfast was amazing. Staff were very very nice and the location was great right in the centre. Even though the hotel was on a main road I didnt hear any noise.
Review 72:Loved it all! The reception room was gorgeous, our room was small but very stylish, comfortable & clean. The staff were wonderful & so genuine.
Review 73:Bookings.com price for room was not accurate to the final price when we checked in in person.
Review 74:Splendid place! And we loved our run-ins with Carlton! What a charmer that man is! And we enjoyed the breakfast and afternoon wine and cheese offered.
Review 75:Our blanket in the bedroom was dirty and had multiple stains on it. We used the sheets instead of the stained blanket.
Review 76:The hotel was great! The woman who checked us in was nice, but also seemed like I was keeping her from something else, so we didnt feel terribly welcomed. All other staff that we had interactions with were pleasant.
Review 77:The location! The hotel itself was wonderful, so much history! And the restaurant, Bistro 45 was excellent, we definitely recommend eating there.
Review 78:Room was extremely small for the price paid (our bathroom at home is bigger) View was horrible (parking garage and other room windows).
Review 79:History of the old bldg. location to river street and other areas of town, as well as shops and eateries was great! We valet parked and walked every where we wanted to go. Friendliness and helpfulness of staff was great.
Review 80:I love the location! We walked to hear the symphony at the Lucas Theater, walked to reestaurants, and had easy access to our bicycles in the nearby parking garage. Our room was small but cozy and comfortable. Great bathroom and both rooms had a view. The breakfast was good and we really enjoyed having drinks at the bar at Bistro 45 in the hotel. The only bother was that we were right across from the elevator and the dinging started about 6 am.
Review 81:Nothing really. If staying more than a night I would recommend upgrading to a larger room.
Review 82:Ambiance was perfect, very Southern and welcoming. Very helpful staff. Room was small but comfortable with good amenities--flat screen TV, wi-if, coffee maker, complimentary bottles of water. When we departed the valet who brought our car had two bottles of cold water ready for our trip. Excellent location in the historic district. Complimentary breakfast included scrambled eggs, bacon and four kinds of juices along with bagels, bread, cereal.
Review 83:Savannah parking is expensive so we used valet parking and never used our car. It was convenient but parking rates in the historical district are high.
Review 84:The location and the historical atmosphere of the Marshall House made our vacation memorable. It is central to Leopold's Ice Cream Shop, the Riverfront, and a great place to do a walking tour.
Review 85:This place is absolutely gorgeous. Right in the centre of Savannah. The staff are brilliant (mostly because they upgraded me for free), the rooms are beautiful. The wifi works well. It's well worth a stay.
Review 86:Located in the historic district within walking distance or trolley distance of old Savannah. The Marshall House is an old building which has been modified to be a hotel. The floors are old wood and the ceilings are high but everything has been modernized (beautifully) to be a hotel. There's a full breakfast downstairs in a room designed to look like a garden terrace and wine and cheese cubes at night in the library room.
Review 87:Building could do with some tlc. A but scruffy and not in the historic kind. Bathroom walls could do with cleaning or painting . Some stain to the floors & furniture.
Review 88:Very close to everything in town. Free water & wifi. Bell hop & valets fantastic .
Review 89:This hotel is conveniently located near City Market and the River Walk. We were able to order tickets for some tours at the front desk and the trolley picked us up / dropped us off right in front of the hotel.
Review 90:Great location. It's a beautiful bed and breakfast. The staff was very personable and helpful. Wonderful experience and we highly recommend it. Savannah is beautiful and The Marshall House is a great location because everything is within walking distance.
Review 91:Breakfast was fresh, varied, and plentiful. As a vegetarian, though, I was disappointed that there were far fewer choices for me - both quiches and the biscuits were made with lard, so I was left with a more standard continental breakfast selection.
Review 92:The staff couldn't have been more helpful or welcoming. The location was perfect, and the $19 arrangement with Oglethorpe Trolley allowed us to see the few sights not in easy walking distance. Wine and cheese reception was lovely & we got some good ideas from talking to other guests.
Review 93:I can't think of anything that we didn't like about this facility.
Review 94:We were so comfortable at the Marshall. The attention to every detail was amazing. I have been telling all my friends to go to Savannah and stay here.
Review 95:Wifi was not always strong. Some rooms are quite small - choose wisely.
Review 96:Location was good. Very historic hotel. Even mentioned in the ghost tour. Staff was great.
Review 97:Almost didn't notice, but there were no grits!
Review 98:The location is within easy walking distance from everywhere one would like to go in the historic district. Never bothered with the free trolley and only got the car from the garage for a day trip. The staff, from the front desk to the room attendants and everyone in between were courteous, friendly, and eager to please. The facility, furnishings, service, and food were all superior.
Review 99:Big Fan outside of the window serving the air conditioning of the full building was pretty noisy.
Review 100:Historical Location in the center of Savannah. Good Breakfast and pleasant afternoon happy hour. Comfortable bed.
Review 101:Wonderful, attentive, & very knowledgeable staff! The room was very comfy....especially the bed! We loved the complimentary cheese & wine reception. Marhall House is a gem of a find in a treasure of a city....can't wait to go back!!
Review 102:For such a nice property and excellent staff the breakfast was very generic and the best thing I can say is it was free.
Review 103:Property is in great shape and staff is excellent.
Review 104:The hotel is beautiful and in the middle of downtown Savannah. The decor is very tasteful and the building is rich in history, yet welcoming and comfortable.
Review 105:Shower leaked and handle came off. Light shined through floor boards from room below.
Review 106:The staff was very friendly and helpful with directions. The desk crew was quick with responses to questions, etc. Valet service men were quick to respond and always had a smile for you.
Review 107:The breakfast was in with the price so was good value, but not brilliant, quiche on two days out of four.
Review 108:The location was great, a couple of blocks away from Riverside and in a nice more quiet area. Also just down the road is Leopolds, the best ice cream we have ever tasted, and should be a must on any visit to Savannah.
Review 109:I was told it would be 161.00 total and was charged 191.00- the man at front kept asking us if we were sure we wanted to check in I felt judged
Review 110:The kitchen employees
Review 111:I blame Booking.com for this as it gave the impression that parking came with the booking which was not the case. The hotel made it clear, though. Change this on your website for accuracy.
Review 112:Friendly staff in a central location with welcoming facilities.
Review 113:My daughter and I went down for a "girl" weekend and both absolutely loved the hotel!! The staff was wonderful, the location could not have been better, we had the petite queen and it was perfect for us! The continental breakfast was very nice!
Review 114:Location! We loved walking to the various locations and to the savannahtheater twice. Walked to the riverfront, bay street, city market, various squares. Really enjoyed our visit to the city where my husbandwas brought as a baby. Took pictures of that home on price street!
Review 115:We never had a maid clean our room and we stayed 3 nights. When we called the front desk on day shift we were told it was because we had our do not disturb sign on the door. We did put the sign on the door because we didn't want to be woke up at 7-8 in the morning and we always took it off the door by 9 am and stayed out of the room from around 9am-2pm most days and they never came in to clean the room. We had to call everyday for clean towels and washcloths. Also it was a little pricey but I guess when you stay here you pay for the historic aspect of the hotel not the comfort. The bed was down hill because the floor was not level. So your head was slightly lower than your feet.
Review 116:The good was it was close to river street which is where we like to hang out when we go to Savannah. Also Ms. Tonya I that worked the evening shift was awesome. She always greeted us and asked how things were going and was very helpful if we had a question.
Review 117:The only problem this trip were the breakfast staff & utensils. Staff unfriendly & utensils not clean.
Review 118:The front desk & doormen all really engaging. The location for the Historical District could not be much better!
Review 119:Took a while to get car from valet- but that's common experience in Savannah
Review 120:Very charming, friendly staff, location close to many attractions, shopping and restaurants. Down the street from Leopold's Ice Cream.
Review 121:The bathrooms could use some sprucing up. The clawfoot tub was cute, but the water pressure was nonexistent. Some of the towels were stained even though they were clean. Breakfast was mediocre, which is disappointing given that this is a pricier hotel. The valet parking was convenient, but expensive. Overall we enjoyed our stay, but I don't think we will stay at here again. Plus there was a funny smell to this place that was noticeable every time we walked in.
Review 122:This place is beautiful with great charm. The staff was friendly and helpful in finding things to do in the historic district.
Review 123:the bellman went to the congierge desk to call a taxi for me. I was wondering why it was taking so long and looked over to see what was happening. He had fallen asleep while on the phone! Then he couldn't find my bags even though they had a claim ticket attached. Not professional at all. Housekeeping banging on our door at 10:45 even though we confirmed a 12:00 checkout.
Review 124:Location, front desk staff.
Review 125:Air conditioner compressor was very noisy when it kicked on in the room. Rooms did not have a seating area , but common rooms downstairs were available.
Review 126:Very friendly and helpful staff, centrally located hotel with emphasis on history of property. Wine and cheese each evening was a plus. Breakfast was terrific in the atrium .
