Reviews for Oglethorpe Inn & Suites
Review 1:It is being completely renovated in 2016 and my stay was in 2015. The bathroom tub had open rust holes in it and the tiling was less than appealing.
Review 2:Nice atrium area with a Mediterranean feel to the layout. The staff was very friendly yet not imposing.
Review 3:Nothing!
Review 4:Awesome and friendly staff. Good location. Very spacious and comfortable room. This was our second stay at the hotel and they were as great as ever.
Review 5:Breakfast the coffee was not strong enough I've prefer hot grits the boil eggs were cold
Review 6:Comfort quietness staff was friendly we got their late 1030 pm and were greeted like it was 1030 am
Review 7:If you don't have a car its quite distant from the interesting parts of the city and the options are either expensive (taxi) or slow (bus)
Review 8:comfortable rooms, staff attention
Review 9:Decor was very outdated, it's a lot farther from the downtown area than anticipated, vibe of the place was depressing, lots of harsh lighting.
Review 10:Value, close parking, very sizable rooms, firm beds, choice and variety of breakfast items
Review 11:The decor is a little outdated but they are fixing that with current renovations.
Review 12:The staff was very friendly. The rooms are very spacious and the comfort of the bed was great.
Review 13:The breakfast, on Styrofoam, was adequate but a bit out of sync.
Review 14:Clean, nice staff. Large, really HUGE suite for less than most smaller rooms. Sitting areas around the elevator foyers with reading material. Nice green plants in the large lobby.
Review 15:Electronic room lock worked sporadically. Desk clerk had to come up to open door. Promised maint. personnel never showed up.
Review 16:comfortable bed, & clean toilet facilities
Review 17:The hotel is very old and dated. The staff was very helpful and knowledgable. Helena at the desk was great. The breakfast was your typical continental but the waffles and breakfast sandwiches was nice. Marquee sign out front says remodeling in 2016. I think I wouldn't advertise in 2015. We would try again after remodel.
Review 18:The look of the hotel. The smell of the hotel. Very dated but would be better with just a little tlc. New paint and updated fixtures go a long way.
Review 19:The price of the hotel.
Review 20:None, if i had to be picky! Being closer to the Historic district and River Street would have been great. But it took no time to drive there.... maybe 10 minutes at most. We will definitely book here on our next trip to Savannah! Its an older hotel could use a tad of touch up. But it was very clean and beautiful! Book It!
Review 21:Close to everything around Savannah! Great Staff, Clean Room, and Amazing Price for the Quality! We loved it! Plus good choices for breakfast to start the day.
Review 22:The inside was okay...dirtier than I would like and the elevator is unpredictable. My friend got stuck in it for 15 minutes and there was no sense of emergency as if it happens all the time. She only received an $11 credit towards her bill after we asked about it at check out. There are better places to stay if you just spend a little more.
Review 23:The hotel had a charming Savannah feel from the outside.
Review 24:Worn furniture and carpeting. Walls in room were poorly painted (paint on towel rack). Poorly done baseboards in bathroom.
Review 25:Good location for reason we were there. Friendly staff Nice exterior and atrium Very comfortable and clean linens and mattresses
Review 26:Nothing
Review 27:This was a beautiful hotel with great charm. Had a B&B feel. The courtyard area was breathtaking. LOVED IT. Was about 10 minutes from the main part of town but just a quick ride down the street and your there. I would highly recommend this beautiful hotel. Staff was SUPERB!!! Very friendly and went out of there way to help if needed. I would definitely come back again and again. The room was very roomy and meticulously clean. I enjoyed the free breakfast.
Review 28:The inside needs to be completely renovated. Mosquitos and damage in guest bathroom in were not pleasant to deal with. Mold/dust at all air intakes in lobby ceiling. Brought sisters along. Disappointed in overall quality.
Review 29:This is a charming g building. A little far from downtown.
Review 30:Breakfast as awful as they come, had to go somewhere else to have breakfast. Room keys did not work, so had to go and have them reprogrammed daily.
Review 31:Easy parking, ok rooms
Review 32:There was nothing we didn't like.
Review 33:It was in a quite part of town. The atrium was beautiful and very relaxing with all the plants, skylights, and sounds from the water feature.
Review 34:This hotel's pleasant colour scheme, its three storey atrium and its generously-sized and well-upholstered lobby furniture made it a very relaxing place to stay. Our room was very spacious, too, with a separate seating area. Although its neighbourhood is any-town strip mall, its interior is a little bit Savannah. Nice:) Oh, and in room wifi worked....
Review 35:We had a lovely comfortable room in this charming hotel. There were good breakfast choices which we ate at a table set in the ground floor of the airy, spacious atrium.
Review 36:Location was OK, but we struggled somewhat with getting too/from Savannah by bus. Not a great choice of restaurants within walking distance.
Review 37:Excellent suite, and extremely good value for money. Plenty of space in common areas within and also outside, for parking, et cetera. Good wi-fi and internet access. Easy to get to outlying areas.
Review 38:Room was not clean. Wash cloth laying in tub filthy. Coffee grinds left in coffee pot from previous guest. No vacuum cleaning was done. Dust on everything. Room smelt awful. I will never stay again at Oglethorp.
Review 39:The layout of hotel and rooms good. Breakfast was good. The hotel has a lot of potential.
Review 40:Not having enough time to enjoy the facilities and local surroundings.
Review 41:The hotel had a good feel about it, it's just a shame due to the weather in South Carolina delayed our journey so we could only eat, shower and sleep. The reception girl recommend a restaurant across the street called Fiddlers seafood south side that was a very good recommendation. Breakfast was nice with plenty of fresh coffee and Tea for me. A hotel that I would recommend.
Review 42:The first room I checked in had strong musty smell and hairs on the bed sheet. The staff promptly changed my room. The second room smelled less musty, but still smelly. I had bug? bites on my body that itched at least for a day or so. Told the front desk person and he said " I have to see the bugs to decide what to do" How many bugs do you see that hang around?????? I would of killed them if I can see them. Disgusting place if you ask me. Will never stay here again. I checked out in the morning to another hotel
Review 43:Extremely helpful lady at front desk booked us in. Told us all about the area, dining, trolleys etc. comfortable hotel. I hear they are going through an upgrade next month so should be even better. Nice big beds and sitting area in room.
Review 44:The hotel had charm but is very old and in desperate need of an overhaul. We had a king suite which was a nice size but the furniture needed cleaning. The shower curtain liner was nasty from use. I asked for it to be changed as we stayed two nights but nothing was done.
Review 45:Updates needed, however, not a cause for complaint. Again, the ambiance is what you are getting with this place and makes you very willing to overlook some of these things.
Review 46:While yes, there is some updating that needs taken care of, you are getting an unbeatable ambiance. The lobby on the main floor is lovely with a small fountain and plants. There are reading areas on each floor with a variety of books available. Computer on each floor in the same reading areas. The room we enjoyed had the largest sitting room I've ever been in which held a full size dining table, couch, chair, TV, desk, microwave, etc. The rooms are comfy. Two of the three shift managers (one was named Helena) were extremely nice and helpful, however, the third (mainly on 3rd shift) did not seem to be overly friendly. Had a leak outside of our bathroom and maintenance jumped on and fixed immediately.
Review 47:Great hotel for its value and unique ambience, location is great on many bus routes and right beside the Oglethorpe Mall, staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 48:It was't a bad experience but it was not anything to write home about. The property from the outside was attractive but I thought the inside was "tired". Edge of dust ruffle was undone, mattress edge was exposed at bottom, things like that. I was surprised that it was rated at 8.5.
Review 49:Good location, separate sitting area.
Review 50:Breakfast bar had waffle makers with margarine and corn syrup -- but no butter, compote, fruit syrup, meat or eggs. We weren't interested in the boxed cereals or pastries.
Review 51:Excellent bed. HVAC worked very well. Quiet. Excellent wifi in room. Plenty of outlets with surge protectors. Quiet mini-fridge.
Review 52:The hotel is clean & comfortable, however old & in need of upgrade. Our television was faulty, phone was not connected. Room no big enough for two double beds.
Review 53:Staff - terrific, helpful & the bright spot of the hotel.
Review 54:The hotel was a little tired. Furniture was well-worn, and the air conditioning wasn't quite adequate for the size of the room.
Review 55:Helena at the front desk was terrific! We had a problem with our room, and she had it taken care of right away. The facility was convenient to shopping, gas, and a few restaurants, but not to the Historic District. Breakfast was good and plentiful. The room was very quiet... we were never bothered by other voices or slamming doors.
Review 56:No hot water in shower either day
Review 57:Beautiful decor, lovely building, not too crowded, friendly staff, great bed and soft linens, good TV and simple, operable remote!
Review 58:Not a bad experience, overall an excellent experience. The elevator and the areas outside the room were much to warm. Inside the room was very pleasantly cool.
Review 59:Beautiful décor. The staff was very friendly, accommodating, and anxious to help with any questions we had. Good variety on the breakfast.
Review 60:The place is very outdated. I would not stay again. The grounds were not kept up and the inside lobby was gloomy.
Review 61:It was convenient to the hospital. The price was in line for the accomodations we had. The staff was very friendly
Review 62:Hotel located on the way to the historical center but in silent and green area, close to supermarket, fuel station and road to the Tybee island beaches - perfect option for transit (1-2 nights stop) and great value for money! It is clean, comfortable and welcoming. Staff is hearty and helpful! Also some bus city tours available straight from the hotel
Review 63:It's pretty but dated, therefore it just had a "less clean" feel to it.
Review 64:Staff was great, went out of their way for us more than once, love the no smoking policy, beds were very comfortable.
Review 65:Breakfast meals should be accompanied with breakfast meats. Additionally, we had a King Executive Suite with the expectation it would have a kitchen, we were very disappointed to only have access to a hot plate. We expected more for our money; we expected more. We will not recommend or return to that location. We felt
Review 66:Several times the front desk was not manned by anyone and had to wait several minutes until someone appeared. You need to have more people at the front desk other than one person who understandably has to go to the back for various purposes including nature calls. Also the bathroom had hairs on the floor which I cleaned up after the cleaning lady left. Breakfast was satisfactory but one of the service people focused on replenishing other stuff when there was almost no more bread left. It was early in the morning and I asked her to replenish the bread and she quickly responded that there was none left. However later, she brought out more bread.
Review 67:We loved the layout of the room like a mini apartment with an area separate from the bedroom to lounge or work at a desk. The bed was very comfortable. The mints at the front desk is a nicely added "welcome " touch,The pool was enjoyable in that it was positioned away from the busy street. There are far more positives than negatives to make this place a worthwhile stay.
Review 68:Didn't think the staff were anything to write about . The staff member raved about in previous reviews was very ofthand and sullen.on shift change over I don't expect to hear staff talkabout private female matters in front of clients.
Review 69:Pool was nice room was comfortable but wouldn't get excited about the place . Could do with a decor change not wonderfully appealing
Review 70:All was pleasing to us.
Review 71:Delighted with set up, cozy, reading, seating area on each floor, nice, open lobby with breakfast area. The pool was nestled in the back, very clean and not crowded. A short drive into historic district. Would certainly stay again.
Review 72:Our room "missed" the cleaning schedule on our second day. As a result we did not have enough clean towels and ran out of toilet paper.
Review 73:The staff was very helpful and nice. The location was easily accessible and convienent.
Review 74:This was our second stay, and it was just as great as before. We absolutely adore the staff; they are so helpful and exuberantly friendly. The pool was nice as always, very nice and leisurely. We love Savannah and will definitely return. And when we do we will be staying at Oglethrope Inn and Suites once again!
Review 75:I was only there for the night but it was overall a cute hotel, I felt safe in the location, wonderful staff, and a very comfortable, I would definitely stay again.
Review 76:Asked for1st floor accommodations due to health reasons and was told at check-in that only king size beds were on the 1st floor.
Review 77:Great location for shopping...
Review 78:Pillows- need to be firmer too soft. Breakfast- the boil eggs were either not cooked or stored properly. Wife and I got an upset stomach from them
Review 79:Great location
Review 80:Some of the carpets and furniture in the lobby needed to be cleaned badly; mattresses & pillows were moderately comfortable but could tell they are older; breakfast buffet could have offered more based on the room price; a little far from the action to have to drive back and forth.
Review 81:The uniqueness of the interior atrium - LOVED...takes you back in time and feels very 'old south'; very friendly efficient staff; nice rooms although slightly dated; very quiet hotel.
Review 82:I thought I made a reservation for 2 days but it got it down for just 1 day and I could not find any available hotel. Decided to go back home at night.
Review 83:Great service and cleanliness.
Review 84:One of the staff always had out her phone. Kind of unprofessional but not a big deal.
Review 85:Beds were super comfortable. Xfinity in our rooms was a plus. Cute & quaint lobby maid it feel like a bed & breakfast.
Review 86:Nothing. This place exceeded our expectations!
Review 87:Very clean, large room, and the amazing staff. Was made to feel at home here, and will definitely be back. Already recommended this location to friends and family planning trips to Tybee Island and Savannah. .
Review 88:The room smell was stuffy. Could use some good smelling air freshener.
Review 89:Nice older hotel. Large rooms. Good choice for continental breakfast. Helena was very helpful.
Review 90:We booked one of the Executive King Suites. It was super roomy and had a separate bedroom. Was perfect for our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children). I loved the main common area. It is so unique to any I have seen before. I wish my stay was longer. We basically were there long enough to sleep and eat breakfast. Next time, if we are in the area, I would spend more time there and check out the pool etc.
Review 91:I had a good experience, but think it needs a little TLC in the rooms. For example, bathroom molding was broken, door and moldings could use a fresh coat of paint.
Review 92:convenience of downtown, free parking, nice pool area, good breakfast
Review 93:I was trying to find a nice cheap hotel for vacation not far from tybee island and found it! Me and my girlfriend loved our suite it was reasonably priced it was clean and quiet and only 30 minutes from the beach
Review 94:Loved the layout of the double suite we stayed in. Couch and chair for computering and reading. Double doors on the bathroom for added privacy. Very friendly staff!
Review 95:The entry was a canvas archway out to the driveway which was not adequate coverage while dealing with luggage in the rain.
Review 96:This central area was enhanced by a delightful water fountain, decorate ironwork, massive 5-globe lamp posts, comfortable sofas, upscale board games and library reading areas. The central area also served as the breakfast area and was a great way to start or end the day. Our King Suite was very spacious and included a spa bath. Privacy around the outdoor pool was provided by lush ivy covered brickwork. Would feel very comfortable here should an extended stay be required. Excellent value for the money!
Review 97:The air in the lobby could have been a little cooler. Also the breakfast was food just wish there was more of a selection
Review 98:Had a great time there very clean and very nice. The staff was wonderful and the price was great.
Review 99:The shower was not clean. To me the bed and bathroom should always be looked over. The bathrooms could also use some updates paint; new toilet Ect.
Review 100:The atmosphere and southern charm of the staff.
Review 101:The desk clerk Helena was so helpful. She made our stay so much more pleasant. A fountain of knowledge about the area, we wouldn't have had as nice a vacation without her kindness.
Review 102:I can't think of anything I didn't like.
Review 103:The breakfast was good. The front desk employees were extremely nice. The exterior and grounds looked welcoming.
Review 104:The location allowed me to focus on my business purposes with no stress. The property was clean and very comfortable. Would I stay here again? Yes!
Review 105:Air conditioning in room was not working, we reported and it was notfixed. We slept terrible because it was 99 degrees outside and our airwas not blowing cool air. No apology was offered and no discount for ourissues. Horrible customer service from the young man at the desk.
Review 106:The young lady that checked us in was very helpful and kind. However, this cannot make the fact that we had no air better.
Review 107:I was very disappointed that when I asked the manager to put balloons and flowers in our room for our daughter's birthday, he said "we dont do that here, but the bed and breakfasts downtown do that"...i felt like I was bothering him by asking him to help us make our daughter's birthday more memorable...
Review 108:I couldn't believe how many people were in the Inn...it was so quiet the whole time.
Review 109:The danish and donuts in the free breakfast.were definetly not fresh Had to move the chair in sitting room in order to see TV.
Review 110:Coffee available anytime.
Review 111:Cleanliness of room. Never vacuumed or washroom swept.
Review 112:Good feel of south. Nice looking place with nice trees on property. We liked the interior set up.
Review 113:Could have been a little cleaner. A bit of dust on most surfaces.Bathroom fixtures could use a good scrub
Review 114:great location, close and walkable to lots of restuarants
Review 115:There really wasn't anything we didn't like.
Review 116:It was really close to restranuts, shopping and gas stations. A 10 min drive away from the hitoric district.
Review 117:Dont like the enveloppe in the room to give the cleaning staff a tip. Isn't that their job? We did leave some chocolates at checkout. We were there for 4 nights. Am I to tip every day??
Review 118:Really liked the separate area to watch TV. The TV did not turn all the way to view but it was satisfactory.
Review 119:Checkin was rude and unprofessional. Threw the keys to us and tsised her voice because I signalled to her after 10-15mins to put phone on hold and complete checkin.
Review 120:Location
Review 121:Pleasant location just 10 minutes from downtown. Lovely attractive, spacious central lobby area with fountain, plants and comfy sofas. swimming pool large suite rooms helpful staff
Review 122:Staff was rude about our wanting our friends to stay with us. Tried to charge us $30 extra a night even though their website charged $10 a night.did not properly clean the room where we stayed.
Review 123:Decent breakfast, convienient location
Review 124:The rooms are very dated, it's time for a remodel. Keep the charm but update the rooms, shower, flooring, etc.
Review 125:We loved the old charm of the lobby when you first walk in. Very cool. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We got to meet both the evening and morning desk people.
Review 126:Many raved about the breakfast but it was pretty poor. Little boxes of cereal, toast, stuff like that.
Review 127:Very clean and comfortable room, a home away from home.
Review 128:Would prefer windows which opened. The toilet plumbing outdated - poor water flow, broken mechanism which we had to fiddle with and fix.
Review 129:Convenient location and quiet retreat.
Review 130:About a 20 minute to the historical district but well worth the savings.
Review 131:My husband and I stayed at the Oglethorpe for 2 nights in January. It's an older hotel, well maintained, very helpful staff, charming interior court for the breakfast area, good size separate sitting area in the room, great value. Nice selection for breakfast. Plenty of restaurants close by. We loved it. Wish we could have stayed longer. We will definitely go back next time we are in Savannah. Kelly was great. If I had a hotel I would want her on my staff.
Review 132:Skipped the complimentary breakfast. I need protein in the morning and not waffles and other carbs
Review 133:Very spacious, excellent bed, quiet, good TV and decent location very lose To shopping and a nice easy drive to Downtown via a pretty stret
