Reviews for The Thunderbird Inn
Review 1:It was not super clean, but still fine for one night.
Review 2:Friendly staff, nice for what you're paying. Relatively close to everything. And there's parking.
Review 3:I stayed here about 8 Years ago and loved it ! That being said , it was a totally different experience this time around ! The Receptionist at Check in was less than friendly , and seemed bothered by us , especially when I asked her for a Map ! The Parking Situation is a Nightmare and the Rooms were dingy and worn and not very clean ! This place is in need of a Mayor Overhall , both Facilities and Staff The Lady at Breakfast was super nice though !!! So was the Breakfast ! That was the only Bright Spot
Review 4:As a place that allows pets, they need to be able to provide clean, dry carpets for the next guests. Unfortunately there were numerous stains (from numerous previous pets) on the carpet which was still wet from the disinfectant and the room reeked of same. I fell for the kitsch factor, but the room didn't deliver.
Review 5:The bed was new and very comfortable. Great location for walking and catching the free local bus and the inexpensive bus to the airport.
Review 6:I was not aware of the parking fee.
Review 7:The friendliness of the staff, the unique setting and moon pies. The fact the hotel accomadates pets--I did not know that when I came. Now that I do know you accomadate pets I will use your hotel more often.
Review 8:I found the pet fee excessive and the charge for parking just plain greedy. Parking charge? at a motel? come on!
Review 9:charming room, great location, friendly staff. I felt safe walking in this college neighborhood
Review 10:When we booked we were not told that there was a $20 parking charge per night. There should not be a charge to park in the hotel parking lot. It is there for the convenience of the guests. At least advise people booking rooms.
Review 11:On the second day of our stay, we had problems with the electric Going on and off.The staff made every effort to resolve the problem. The problem happened a second time around 11:00 p.m. I reported it when checking out. They gave me a certificate for a free night. The motel is renovating, so hopefully the problem will be resolved. When we booked,
Review 12:Everything seemed old and dirty. Breakfast could have been a lot better. Carpets were stained. Water pressure was horrible for a shower. A garden hose would have been a better shower. The AC would reset its temperature every hour, so the room didn't cool down.
Review 13:The staff was really friendly.
Review 14:The hotel bills itself as the hippest hotel in Savannah and the reception area has a lot of nice touches that give it a hip feel but that vibe doesn't extend to the rooms themselves. They are pretty generic, rough around the edges, motel rooms. The carpet in our room was dirty leaving the bottom or our white socks dirty and the humidity made everything in the room constantly damp which was a bit off putting.
Review 15:The staff was very friendly, the location was great, and the value can't be beat.
Review 16:While very retro, it is not being kept up, our room was dirty. The carpets had many, many stains, white chairs were dirty and the white bedspread was filthy and bathroom floors were dirty. Very disappointing as it has so much potential to be a cool motel.
Review 17:Location
Review 18:The location is great. The staff (Tracey!) was fantastic, very helpful & cheery. We were told they are starting a complete renovation in January 2016. The only thing that could be improved would be the water pressure in the shower (because it was really more of a trickle) and the slim parking spaces. Very difficult to get even our small SUV the one of them especially if the car next to you isn't perfectly within their space. These are NOT however deal breakers. This will be our place to stay on our future Savannah trips. Close to everything. Just great all around!
Review 19:Carpet felt damp and dirty. Could use updating. Parking spaces are so small, you can barely get in or out of the car, let alone load or unload vehicle.
Review 20:Would have really liked to rent bikes
Review 21:Enjoyed the themed of the hotel and how they would have popcorn, and placed moon pies and rc colas after cleaning the room
Review 22:$7.50 to park per day.guess this is great for most cities but I just don't like to pay to park
Review 23:Location is excellent.Real value for seasoned traveler who doesn't seek amenities.Krispy Creme donuts are awesome.
Review 24:Just wish they would've had a more updated television. It looked about 15 - 20 years old
Review 25:Staff very helpful. The cleanliness of the room. They give complimentary moon pies and RC Cola.
Review 26:No iron, it's literally right in the ghetto, and Jackie at the front desk had a terrible attitude not with only just me but also my friends.
Review 27:Didn't stay long to like anything. Just went out and about and got back to sleep.
Review 28:Wonderful 1960s retro motel Clean comfortable room Friendly welcoming staff Close to downtown (easily walkable) All the Krispy Kreme donuts you can eat for breakfast (that's two probably :) )
Review 29:The Staff were extremely friendly & helpful on the sites to see in Savannah. On arrival we were given a Moon Pie, can of RC cola each & the kids loved the complimentary bag of fresh popcorn & juice. Would definitely recommend The Thunderbird Inn to friends & family & will be staying again, when we next travel to Savannah.
Review 30:Shower head needs to be updated.
Review 31:Very hip place! Super comfortable beds. Staff was awesome and let us keep our car there a little longer than usual and let us change in the bathroom after a long bike ride.
Review 32:Air goes to a preset temperature every hour or so. One of us had to get up to cut it down when we'd wake up hot. I understand they are trying to conserve energy but maybe during the day when people are usually site seeing. Carpets need a good cleaning and housekeeping staff needs to be more observant (came back to room with no toilet paper).
Review 33:The front staff was fabulous. We loved the retro feel. Krispy Kreme donuts for breakfast - yes!
Review 34:We were surprised about the USD 7.50 parking fee, which we did not notice on Booking.com. As we said so, the front desk lady graciously told us that she will drop the fee and we paid the total amount (w/o parking fee) in cash. Nevertheless, the Motel charged USD 7.50 on the credit card one day later without any notice. This is really no correct behavior and definitely not customer friendly!
Review 35:Friendly staff, complementary drink in room.
Review 36:Carpet was really stained. The shower didn't have enough water pressure or a very good shower head.
Review 37:Loved the bed! So comfortable! I was very impressed with the staff. Crystal checked us in and was so helpful and sincere. Also, the location was within easy walking distance of the river district.
Review 38:While it was made clear when I booked that I would need to pay"extra" to park, I believe that parking, at least for onevehicle, should be included in the room rate. After all, it is a motel(as opposed to lodging where someone would probably not have a vehicle).Management must know this. They require guests to acknowledge &accept the charge in the lodging contract.
Review 39:Vintage vibe.
Review 40:Poorly designed parking lot. Our car was blocked in and we had to wait for other guests to leave before we could get our car out.
Review 41:Location was in walking distance to main attractions
Review 42:The carpet was filthy and wet. When we contacted the office, they said they would deal with the wet spot on carpet and they never did. The room wasn't cleaned on the second day.
Review 43:The beds were clean and comfortable
Review 44:Wonderfully kitsch and iconic motel, modernised but still kept that 1950's feel. The kids loved the fact that breakfast was Krispy Kreme doughnuts and we found complimentary moon pies in our room. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
Review 45:A/C was just a bit cold and when we turned up temp. it would reset to previous cold temp again. Also, the auto switch that turns off lights in bathroom (to save on electric) kept switching off on me when I used the toilet! Not a big deal though - I thought it was kind of humorous.
Review 46:Retro atmosphere, Krispy Kreme donuts, comfy beds, special shampoo, conditioner and bath gel available, VERY helpful, kind and courteous staff, clean, not fancy but has all those little extra touches that make the stay very special.
Review 47:Don't mind motion detecting light in bathroom, but would prefer light to stay on (uninterrupted) during shower (without me waving my arms around).
Review 48:Convenient to both River Street and Conference Center. Great price.
Review 49:If you have to push me for critical feedback, I'd say that our room at the end of the row was a little close to the road, noise. Paying to park on site was a minor drag but it was clear upfront.
Review 50:Yes, it probably is the hippest place in town. Friendly team who take a real pride in being part of the Thunderbird experience. Lots of nice, extra touches like RCCola, moon pies and popcorn and lemonade. Simple breakfast of Krispy Kreme and coffee was great after a few heavier starts in the previous mornings. Loved it.
Review 51:Would have liked the option of protein over sugar for breakfast, don't think I can get to lunch without a major crash on a krispy creme donut.
Review 52:Nice and easy, kept simple and done well with an extra twist
Review 53:The bathroom was ridiculously tiny. The staff was very rude and not very helpful. While checking in, they didn't bother pausing their conversation about work drama to pay me any attention. I found this very unprofessional. However, with the price you get what you pay for.
Review 54:The comfortable bed, value for the money, and proximity to river street.
Review 55:Loved the location!! Right next to the dot transit center which takesyou to all the downtown destinations. Loved the Krispy Kremes and coffeein the morning and the popcorn and lemonade in the afternoon! Just andawesome stay...not to mention overflowing with groovy cuteness!
Review 56:Loved everything about this cute motel. Went for the price, will return for the comfort, super fun retro style, and the environmentally friendly vibe. They even have bicycles available to tour around town! Breakfast was a full selection of Krispy Kreme donuts and coffee. Felt like I was on the set of PeeWee's Playhouse.
Review 57:The breakfast was only sugar. Even a bagel with cream cheese would have been better. The shower did not work too well, but not a real problem. We couldn't get Hallmark station on TV--also not a real problem.
Review 58:The room was comfortable and within walking distance to everything in the historic district. The staff was friendly and helpful. Parking was right at our room; that was nice.
Review 59:The age is definitely showing on this place. Dirt in corners, freezer in the room refrigerator almost closed with accumulated ice build up. Needs some sprucing up.
Review 60:Staff was friendly, and I liked the "idea" of the place. Good location for exploring Savannah.
Review 61:Parking fees are my only complaint. This must be a new thing, as we weren't charged for parking at our last stay here.
Review 62:Great location, reasonable prices, friendly staff
Review 63:There are Krispy Kreme donuts, great coffee, and juice for breakfast plus lemonade in the afternoons--and in real glass and china, not styrofoam. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Staff are great. And you can walk downtown.
Review 64:The AC, though I'm sure it was very energy efficient, did not keep the room very cool.
Review 65:The Thunderbird Inn is in a very good location. We were close to SCAD, and City Market. The accommodations were comfortable, but we would have liked to have an AC that could better cool the room. TTI is very dog friendly, and if we ever go back, we will bring fido with us.
Review 66:One of the bikes had a flat tire and it never got fixed, so we couldn't use them. Free breakfast is nice, but doughnuts as the only option not necessarily...
Review 67:It is a nice and colorful hotel and the room has all amenities one could possibly need. I loved the bed, huge and very comfortable. Staff were very attentive. There was no noise at all despite sitting by the road/greyhound station. It's a 10min walk from the historical district.
Review 68:Stale donuts, no other breakfast options, hard beds and flat pillows
Review 69:Location was ok, but you can find hotels much closer to the river for a comparable price
Review 70:The motel was just amazing, since the moment we arrived a really nice receptionist named Jackie helped us with everything we needed! Really friendly staff, clean comfy and full equiped. The location is perfect, 10 min walking from the river promenade, and next to the main bus station. Breakfast is a little poor but there are juices, tea coffwe and lots of great donuts. We enjoyed every moment and wormly recomend this retro sweet place!
Review 71:Location was a little further from downtown than we thought and the bus terminal across the street got noisy in the middle of the night
Review 72:The "retro-ness" - sign, building colors, Moonpies of the pillow. Wonderfully helpful staff. Price
Review 73:Wi-Fi is a bit patchy, and "breakfast included" is donuts and coffee.
Review 74:reasonably cheap compared to other Savannah accommodation, convenient location, friendly staff
Review 75:My only concern was the AC "hold" was limited to a two hour timer. If you want the room below 75 degrees, you had to reset the hold every two hours.
Review 76:Staff was polite and precise, rooms were clean and cozy, and who complains about Krispy Kreme for breakfast?
Review 77:We were recommended a restaurant close by but we had a bad experience there. 45 minute wait outside, very loud when seated, and pricey. We were hoping for a nice casual dinner, but we left as soon as we could. Only other thing was breakfast. When I signed up I was told we would get a box of Krispy Kreme's at our door, but found when we woke up that the donuts were actually down at the office and we didn't get our own box, but just had to pick from selection. So, that was a little disappointing.
Review 78:Great location to downtown without spending too much money. Hotel inside was great as well. We were pleasantly surprised by how nice the room was inside!
Review 79:Dusty and dirty rooms with stains on the walls. Loud staff early in the morning talking and yelling to each other while guests try to sleep. Other guests were up late partying and it sounded like they were in the room with us. I don't even know if this place is fit for college spring breakers. Will never be back.
Review 80:Leaving
Review 81:Hotel staff had been rude from booking (over the phone) up to check-in. Parking is $7 a night (it's a motor inn hello!?) The rooms are loud being on street level (the traffic on the road shook the bed and sounded like a truck was going to crash through a wall at any moment) AND NOW FOR THE WORST PART: The room Air Conditioner thermostat was on a locked timer!!! So if you put the air setting down it would only stay at your setting for 2 or 3 hours and reset back to 85 degrees!!! What the hell is that??? I had to get up 3 times during the night in a dripping sweat to reset back to a comfortable livable setting. NO GOOD! HUGE MISTAKE! I'm booking at the Hilton or Double Tree next time, the rates are the same as this dump!
Review 82:The room was clean and well decorated, the hotel lobby was bright and fun.
Review 83:The only negative for us was an extremely strong smell of clorox and the carpet was still damp from cleaning. We were glad to know it was clean, but we had to keep our door propped open to air it out.
Review 84:We liked the location, the low cost, the comfortable beds and the friendly and helpful staff.
Review 85:Only breakfast choice was sugared donuts which we could not eat. Additional costs of $7.50 per day for parking - only motel in our month long trip which charged
Review 86:Easy walking distance to Savannah Good range of teas and real mugs instead of polystyrene
Review 87:My confirmation said Meal plan:There is no meal option with this room. I don't Know whose mistake it is, hotel or Booking. com?
Review 88:It looked so new!! So nice!!
Review 89:Best location, both for walking around and also right across the street from free shuttle bus that goes all over the historic district AND to airport for 5 bucks!
Review 90:Only cups in room were dirty. I held the room with my card and we told them to charge another card when we checked in...did not happen.
Review 91:Popcorn, RC Colas and moonpies.
Review 92:the room is a bit smaller then it looks in pics and bathroom is really small which made it a little tough with 4 people getting ready. Popcorn machine was never on when we were there in the afternoon which would have been nice for a quick snack a couple of times but not a deal breaker.
Review 93:I loved how close we were to everything especially the DOT bus which is right across the street and Free!! Which we used a couple of times to get close to where we needed to be. Staff was great and very helpful.
Review 94:The room- blackout part of curtain had massive holes. The sheets were clean but had permanent stains. Staff replaced everything quickly but it just seemed thry had very sloppy standards. No popcorn on arrival as advertised. Rooms not retro at all
Review 95:I had ordered a gift basket to be delivered to the motel for our anniversary. I kept checking with the staff, and they said they didn't get it. The next day I checked my email and it had been delivered. I asked again, and they looked and found the package. UPS had placed a label across our names, but the box said it was a Wine gift basket. I just felt if they had looked a little closer at their deliveries, they would have realized it was the package I had been waiting for.
Review 96:Nice, clean, quiet motel. Moon pies and RC Cola in the rooms was fun. It was also nice to have the big pump bottle of body wash, shampoo and conditioner mounted right in the shower. Much easier to handle than the little bottles in most hotels.
Review 97:Poor lighting - Need another light over sink in bathroom area - room 206
Review 98:Proximity to walk everywhere and they allowed us to keep our car in the parking lot past checkout
Review 99:We knew it was an older motel, but we didn't know it was across from the bus station. Never even knew it was there - very quiet. Very clean, comfy bed, convenient to everything. Much better than the Best Western we stayed in the night before on the way to Savannah.
Review 100:A lift would help a lot for those with heavier luggage to reach the 1-st floor.
Review 101:Short walking distance to the city visitor's center and downtown Savannah.
Review 102:helps to ask about the air conditioning, we had issues but that was our own fault. first day with no shower curtain, fixed. a little noisy but bus station across street and busy road out front, you'll get that. not a great deal of issues.
Review 103:location was very nice, price was as well. staff was very friendly and had very few negatives to add... lots of towels, tv when in room and convenience of location.
Review 104:The room was "musty", bathroom is smaller than a closet, parking spots aren't big enough and are hard to get into. Also we had to pay for parking on their lot, and we we weren't told that until we checked in. It's on a VERY BUSY street with lots of noise, very hard to get out of parking lot! "Breakfast" is a nasty donut, and that's it! This place definitey was not worth the high price we paid to stay here!
Review 105:They ran out of coffee for the rooms the day we got there. They had coffee in the main lobby but have to go walk to get it as well as try to get it back to room to enjoy. Property was thrown away that we had left on the table which clearly was not trash but they made up for it to some point by taking our parking fee away which was helpful.
Review 106:Location and price. Overall we were pleased with the stay just a few setbacks.
Review 107:Everything in our room was a little damp and smelled a little like a pool. You could see your foot prints on the carpet it was so damp.
Review 108:Great service at the front desk, great staff.
Review 109:Check-in: Credit my card without telling me total and charge me parking fee directly without asking me. I don't have a car. Room: I can enter into a neighbor room, there is a door between two room. That means they can enter our room as well. OMG. Feel awful!!! Night Noisy: Very very noisy. Could not sleep. I have been there 8 nights, 7 nights we feel like sleeping in a morning market.
Review 110:Location is fine for price
Review 111:Pay for parking, cheap quality, uncomfortable bedding, and for the amount you pay it would be nice to have a decent breakfast other than doughnuts
Review 112:Fun theme, free bike rentals and popcorn, nice staff.
Review 113:Outside hallways need pressure washing Comforter needed washing. Use duvets covers!
Review 114:Location. Safe parking. Short Walking distance to different attractions.
Review 115:The only thing is that we didn't have any towels to dry off with after showering.
Review 116:I loved the retro aspects and the hotel was in a short walking distance to downtown Savannah.
Review 117:Room didn't not have cool retro phone. Iron and coffee maker in room were dusty. Stains on sheets
Review 118:Moon pies and soda instead of mint and water what's not to like about it. Not to mention doughnuts for breakfast... Not only coaxed but creme filled
Review 119:Parts of the bathroom were dirty when we arrived.
Review 120:The decor was nice and the free moonpies and lemonade were a plus. The staff was very attentive and was quick to bring us more towels and a roll-a-way bed when we requested.
Review 121:I loved that the hotel was a great value for the location (it is within a short walking distance from downtown Savannah). I also liked the doughnuts for breakfast.
Review 122:After a late night out, I was prepared to sleep in considering check out wasn't till 11:00am. At just after 8am a very powerful and LOUD vacuum sound woke me and continued non-stop. I called the front desk and asked if I had misread the checkout time, could it actually be 8am, because why else would they have cleaning crews waking me 3 hours early? I was told they were having the carpets in all rooms cleaned and it was the only time they could schedule. I gathered my things and went to check out and speak to management. The gentleman there tolkd me that if they started any later they would be there till 2am, so he made the choice for an earlier start time. I explained regardless, his start time should be after check out, and that under his logic they were still going to be there till 11pm, perhaps he needed to have it done over two days- he said it would cost him $1000 more for an addition day. What?? And besides, why should that be my problem? Now he has a motel full of inconvenienced guests and that's better?? I explained that he could have notified us at check in of the eatlky morning cleaning as a courtesy, but they didn't even do that. Well since our room had been paid via booking.com he said he was unable to comp our room, but he would mail us a certificate for a free night stay. Our stay was Feb 9th, 2015- its been a month now and we've received nothing.
Review 123:It was close to downtown and within walking distance to restaurants and bars.
Review 124:I made the mistake of telling them they need not make up our bed so we missed out on our RC and Moon Pie! (I snagged one from the attendants stands on the way out though. Don't tell!)
Review 125:The staff was cheerful and helpful. We had so much fun in Savannah we stayed and extra day!
Review 126:No kleenex in box. Lotion in dispenser was about gone.
Review 127:Very helpful staff, got me on a city tour right away. The retro 60's style was pretty cool. Close to historic district.
Review 128:WI-FI was very weak, for it took a while for Internet to come up, but they're working on improving it for future use.
Review 129:It was near downtown, as well as clean. I liked the retro 1960s feel of this hotel as well as the close proximity of downtown Savannah, GA.
Review 130:Our room was quirky -with a complementary Moonpie + coffee. Lovely staff who were happy to direct to the best places to visit in Savannah.we will definitely be back
Review 131:parking spaces to small
Review 132:the small things like moonpie and RC colas in the room. staff was very friendly and accomodating. Krispy Kreme donuts in the morning.
Review 133:The room could have been cleaner and if you are a late riser (like I am), those guests should be told that there will be no maid service after such and such a time. . .
Review 134:Loved the retro décor and amenities. The staff was amazingly helpful and went above and beyond. The value at Thunderbird is super.
